I normally don't give negative reviews, but I can't hide my disappointment with with this Vietnamese bakery. The first couple times I went there, I purchased fresh rolls, which is the bread they make their Bahn Mi's with. I love fresh bread, but the last three times, the bread was far from fresh. Staff is always friendly, but the food was just okay. No ambiance and lacking and really don't know how that can claim to be a bakery with hardly any pastry and stall rolls. After almost a decade of patroning Henry's Cafe, I am disappointed to have to write this review of our recent experience. A few days ago, we had lunch at Henry's and I ordered a pork rice plate. I received the pork rice plate (which was quite average), but also received a fried egg with my order. When we paid for the meal, there was a charge of $5 for the egg in addition to $15 for the rice plate. There was no mention of a fried egg included with the rice plate on the menu. When we confronted the waitress, she nonchalantly stated that "the egg is included with the rice plate and just charged separately." I've ordered rice plates here previously and never heard of this. I wasn't sure if this was new since they had recently updated their menu. Make it make sense. I'm not sure whether she mistakenly thought I ordered the egg and was just covering her mistake, but rather than confirm this when ordering or apologizing later, she said this was the practice. The waitress continued to be very defensive as we inquired about the charge and just responded that she "doesn't make the prices." These deceitful practices to make a quick buck are unacceptable. Given this sour experience, my family will no longer patron Henry's and will advise our friends and family to be wary of eating here. If you want good Vietnamese food, just go down the street to Kien Giang or Vung Tau instead. read more

If you know me, you know that I don't really complain about food, but I'm really sad about this one. Vietnamese banh mi sandwich is his and mine favorite kind of sandwich. We were in Biloxi so of course we had to pick up some banh mi! I got a few to bring back home for my sister, we live 3 hours away. Cold cuts usually contains head cheese, cha lua pork sausage, and sliced pork, it had all of that, but there wasn't even enough meat to cover the whole sandwich. One thin sliced head cheese, one thin sliced pork... I ended up taking meat from my other sandwich to make one sandwich. I ordered the chicken pho and I absolutely loved it!! It was so delicious. I've tried many Vietnamese pho places near biloxi but this one truly was the best. The broth was so clear and clean tasting; didn't feel guilty at all drinking the soup. All the other pho places I've tried had super greasy, fatty pho broth. For the chicken pho, I asked to get the chicken without the bones and skin. It's a bit pricier than other pho locations but the taste made it up for me. The first I've been here the food and customer service were okay, but the 2nd and 3rd time I've been back the food and customer service were terrible. The Pho, com suon and com ga hai nam tasted nothing like the authentic vietnamese cuisine, and the portions they give were little as well. Customer service is so bad as the owner tried to trick my friend into ordering a bigger size that he didn't want, give my other friend a small size bow when he ordered a big one, and tried to give me a strawberry smoothie when I ordered a strawberry milk tea. When I asked about the wrong order he straight up tell me they were out of milk tea, yet bring out an entirely different order anyway without informing me at all. Waiter and owner seemed condescending and angry all the time and I don't think they were friendly at all. Would not recommend or come again. read more

When I lived in Mississippi, I used to visit Henry's Café & Bakery once a week. I love their food, especially their pho and fresh bread. When I came to town for a few days recently, I just had to visit, and they did not disappoint. We had spring rolls, egg rolls, beef stew, and a combination pho, and chicken pho. I hadn't been here in over a year, and they had updated their menus and added credit card payment options. I was very excited to visit Henry's Cafe, as I had heard great things! And there are many great things to say indeed! First, they are all wonderful people! I believe Henry's brother is in charge and is a very kind and gracious man! My server was a wonderful person as well. While I'm new to Vietnamese cuisine, I'm very open to trying new things, and I appreciated the time their staff took to explain everything and answer any questions. I ordered the grilled pork chop over rice, truly an excellent and flavorful meal! I especially loved the soup that came beforehand. What I didn't like was being charged $5.00 for two fried eggs. I didn't order them and there was nothing on the menu next to my dish giving me an option to order them or not to order them, they simply came. Imagine expecting to to pay around $19 or so, and the bill being just shy of $25. I wasn't happy about that at all! I would've liked to have known ahead of time and been given the choice. We stopped in to pick up a couple of loaves of French bread since we knew they used to make very good bread. We were so disappointed. One loaf was small, but the other loaf was half the size of the small loaf and it was rock-hard. Essentially what we got was a small loaf of French bread and a giant bread stick. I've been going around to all the different Vietnamese restaurants and bakeries that I can find in the area, and so far Henry's has the best authentic Vietnamese bahn mi. I'm not talking about your "Vietnamese po boy's" made with ham and cheese either. I'm talking about the special Vietnamese combination bahn mi with pate and head cheese. The bread is always fresh, and they always make the sandwich right when you order. The staff is friendly and overall a bit quiet, but that's just something to note, not a concern. The pho is alright. The pho tai broth is pretty clear and tastes a bit watered down, but it's definitely not the worst. I got #6 on the pho menu. I've eaten a lot of pho in my life and this one was pretty good. The soup was so good and it matched well with everything else. Do not get the spring rolls or eggs rolls. Spring rolls were okay and I still ate it but the egg rolls were not good. It was bland and mostly cabbage. Same with the spring rolls but more tolerable. ServerS (yes you read that right, we had 3 people "serving" us - if you can even call it that) are extremely rude. Had to flag them down to get any type of service other than placing our orders when we first came in. They were also extremely sarcastic and talked to us like we were babies. Food was questionable and parts still frozen. Bathrooms are unsanitary. CASH ONLY and the only notification of that was a tiny sign on the door in the mix with a bunch of other, larger signs. Henry's a nice place to find Vietnamese cooking in the area. The rice dishes are not bad, sandwich are good too. The food is authentic, but don't expect the food to be as great as the Viet places more populated Vietnamese cities. I dont usually leave reviews but after my last visit I had to let it be known. I ordered spring rolls and watched as the guy in the back made it. The rice paper was placed into the bottom of the sink, the same sink the guy washed his hands in right before and was placed in there and had the water run onto the wrap. After seeing that, I asked the main guy that runs the place if that sink is even clean or if it was the same sink used to wash hands and he got smart with me and told the guy to stop making tbe order and angrily asked if I wanted my money back. Seriously?? I just witnessed the "cook" wash his hands without soap and then proceeded to place the rice paper in the sink right on the drain and had the audacity to give me an attitude when I questioned them about it. We stopped by this place because there are not a lot of Vietnamese restaurant in MS. The first impression was that it looks super small and located in such an old building. It is right next to a car repair shop that looks like a junk yard:((. However, it was very spacious inside. All the dishes we tried were flavorful , and they baked their own "banh mi", so they are very fresh. They have such an extensive menu of Vietnamese food that you can barely see anywhere else. There are so many options of food to choose from. Big note: cash only but they have an ATM machine inside. The service was quick, and they are friendly. Very spacious Vietnamese restaurant. High ceilings and wide open dining area makes for a non claustrophobic dining experience. Cash only establishment. Smoking indoors in allowed here so be wary, although I couldn't really smell the smoke due to great ventilation. The pho came out within 2 minutes of ordering. Tastes above average and the XL bowl will surely fill you up regardless of your size. The broth has a great balance of spices and noodle consistency is on point! I also stopped for lunch and got spring rolls, banh mi(Poboys), and chicken wings. All of which were fantastic. The peanut sauce(dipping sauce for spring rolls) was a tad bit too sweet for my personal taste. Other than that, I enjoyed everything else. Service is ok, not super attentive and water is often not refilled. Ok this place is deceiving af! The pics make the food look so good but lemme tell you that's as far as it goes. The food is 2 out of 10. The banhmi dac biet is not good at all, spring roll was the worse tasted like soapy veggies and the dipping sauce was watery as hell. Got the meat puff pastry and it tasted ok nothing special, I'll give it a 5, sweet egg custard bao was heavy and dry like a biscuit you get a Popeyes make sure you have some water to go along with it. So three sandwiches, six pastrys, one smoothie, two orders of spring roll and one egg custard bao came out to be about $47. Honestly this would've been about $20 in California but I guess this is Mississippi so it's more expensive, which I don't mind if the food was decent at least! Go elsewhere for Vietnamese. read more

I called to ask an extremely simple question today. Immediately put on hold (well, down - not hold - there was a lot of background noise). After waiting about a minute for the man to finish with a customer, I was able to ask: "Does your French bread contain any eggs, butter, or milk?" We're vegan, and I realize the owners may not know what that means, so I used specific animal product terms. He didn't seem to understand the question and said, "I don't have time to answer your question, only if you're coming in to buy." Okay, RUDE --- so I asked it again. He said, "Yes." Great food but horrible service. Waiter got the order wrong TWiCE, but the owner blamed it on us and was screaming from the kitchen. Being able to hear and understand what he was saying (it was in Vietnamese) made it uncomfortable to say the least. I also ordered a drink to go, and when the waiter handed it to me, we didn't connect and the drink fell on the floor. He just walked away as I picked it up. I came here visiting my brother who lives in Biloxi with my sister and dad. It's a Saturday so of course it'll be busy. It took 10 mins for the owner/waiter to take our order but 5 mins for our food to arrive. My family wasn't complaining because they had 3 flat screen TV's to watch the World Cup game: Argentina vs Belgium. If you're in the area like I am, this would be my first choice for vietnamese food. Although many fellow yelpers complain about the service, I think you have to be lenient bc it's a family own restaurant. I rather much slow service for good food! I got the banh mi (vietnamese po boy) and boy was it yummy! I can definitely tell that the bread was baked freshly. My dad and sister both got the Pho Dac Biet and they enjoyed it. The owner gave a very generous amount of the herbs and bean sprouts. I think that's what won my dad over. My brother got the Pho Bo Kho (beef stew with rice noodles). This place was probably the closest thing I could get to a basic pho here in Houston, not any Asian restaurants but it will do!
