Not sure what to call this place. I guess it's an Asian restaurant on steroids. They have everything. From pad Thai to spicy tuna rolls. Made a reservation for four around 7. We were seated quickly, but it took a while for our waitress to come and snag our drinks and our food selection. Maybe it was because we were in deep conversation? But come on, a check in would be nice. Drinks: -Bottle of house wine (25$) Not the best wine I've ever had, but it was great to split. Food: -Snagged the lettuce wraps. Very good and highly recommend as a starter. Was plenty for four people. -Order of edamame. Fresh and steaming hot. Main dishes: -Pan fried noodles with veggies. VERY nice. Some of the best pan fried noods I've had in NYC. -Sizzling plate with chicken. A more glorified chicken and broccoli. -Chocolate cake for dessert. Was drier than the desert. Overall, this upscale joint was pretty darn good. Aside from the weak service in the beginning, can't say much negative about it. For the city, little more expensive than I'd like. As a general rule, I avoid places that call themselves pan Asian. Still we came here based on a relative's preference. I ordered the chicken teriyaki and it was inedible. The chicken was of dubious quality. It was covered in an extremely salty but otherwise flavorless coating that was nominally supposed to be pomegranate teriyaki. And the vegetables were undercooked. This place is conveniently located right in the heart of Midtown East! They have an incredibly expansive menu for a ton of Asian dishes (fried rice, dimsum, noodles, rolls, etc) and many gluten-free options. We came in on a weekend for lunch, but I'm pretty sure they also offer lunch specials throughout the week. My friends and I decided to share three items family style and ordered the bhutan fried red rice with chicken, the black angel roll (mainly spicy tuna + shrimp tempura + avocado), and pad thai with shrimp, all of which were served gluten-free. The fried rice was really tasty - I especially liked the texture of the grains. The pad thai was really flavorful and this is honestly one of the few places where they didn't charge extra for choosing a seafood (shrimp) as the protein add-on, which I really appreciated. The roll was probably my least favorite out of the three - still good and filling, but the shrimp tempura inside wasn't really crispy and tasted a bit bland. Our total came out to be ~$20/person, which is pretty reasonable imo. Service was great and the interior was decorated really nicely. Five of us went here after a performance in the neighborhood. We had scallion pancake which was delicious. We had a orders of the massaman curry, Thai Basil shrimp with ginger sauce. Also salt and pepper shrimp & Pad Thai. We all enjoyed our dinner. Shrimp in our entrées was a very generous portion. The young man who waited on us was very helpful, friendly and accommodating. They are incredible especially for anyone with food allergies. They are extremely conscientious and when I order with a coworker who does not have food allergies they always point out which items are not GF to make sure they are not for me. We are out of their delivery area and pay a small fee - they are always so speedy and the food arrives hot. I adore them and will continue to order from them for years to come! I love Lilli & Loo for one reason and one reason only: their gluten free pan-fried dumplings. When you have celiac, finding your favorite foods can be hard. And for me, that favorite food was always dumplings (or potstickers, as I remember them being called). Many years ago when I was visiting New York, I stumbled across Lilli and Loo online and made my taxi stop here to grab takeout on the way to the airport. I cried happy tears at the airport finally being able to eat my favorite food again -- I know, I know, I'm SO LAME. But every time I've visited New York since, Lilli and Loo has always been top of my list! I came here again recently, and as usual, the gluten free dumplings did not disappoint. My fiancé complained that they were "too doughy" but hey, beggars can't be choosers. However, we both agreed that the dumpling sauce is pretty flavorless -- either the orange duck sauce or sweet chili sauce are better options. Honorable mention goes to the gluten free spring rolls that have an amazing crunch and the most perfect filling! I just wish they weren't so expensive. The main bummer at Lilli and Loo? Service here was super lackluster (and I remember this from previous visits too). So when I came back again a few days later, I opted to get the dumplings to-go and ate them in Central Park. I came here with my friend from out of town who has a ton of dietary restrictions (gluten, dairy, nuts, fish, carrots, cumin, apples, fruits with pits, anise, etc.) The staff was super accommodating with her allergies and did their best to ensure no cross contamination, which is especially great since they serve sushi here. I had the general tso's chicken and it tasted like regular general tso's. The prices were comparable to other midtown Chinese joints and the food sizers were generous. The woman working at the pick up counter was so kind and the Shanghai wontons were just as sweet and slap me in the mouth spicy as ever. Today was my first time coming back in over two years (last visit was right before Covid lockdown in March of 2020). I like the new location! Very peaceful/calm atmosphere. Food is still great and prices are still reasonable. I'm also GF so they get bonus points for having an entirely GF menu (which is basically unheard of for an Asian restaurant). So I've walked by this place many times since it's pretty close to my house. Before going there I read a few reviews about this place and they mentioned the food being good and there being a rude waitress. Nonetheless, we decided to check it out as it's one of the few Asian restaurant close to where I live and we were hungry. The food was okay. I don't think there was anything special about it. But I did notice the rude lady. She was waiting our table. She seemed very impatient and unfriendly. We went with my father and if he feels that the food could be improved he always tells the waiter before leaving. So our dumplings were actually very thick, dry and had very little filling (would recommend not ordering it). I most likely would never have ended up here unless the friend I hung out with my first night in New York hadn't agreed to meet up with his banker apartment-mate for a second dinner (we had just eaten Korean Fried Chicken in KTown). The poor guy was taking the final meal break in his 12-hour workday, only to return to work when we were done. [But really, I don't pity him--at 22, he makes about six times what I do and has only had 3 days off since July. Nope, don't pity him at all!] Anyway, this place was a cute surprise. Feeling quite the VIP in the sleek upstairs floor of this Asian Fusion restaurant, I wasn't surprised when I ordered a bubble drink (which you might call boba, pearl tea, or perhaps tapioca drink) and it came served in a malt glass. I didn't actually eat, but the food seemed decent, the prices even more so. While the guys chatted up their business jargon (*yawn*), I admired the jazz playing in the background and the colorful, chicly designed interior of the place. Even the bathroom had its own speakers... because who DOESN'T love a little Norah Jones while you're taking a pee?? [By the end of my trip I realized that swanky restrooms with deep metal sinks and fancy faucets seem to be a common occurrence in Manhattan restaurants.] If I lived in this area, I'd most likely frequent Lilli and Loo, because Asian food rules. However, the likelihood of me living on the Upper East Side of Manhattan anytime in the near future... or any future, for that matter... is slim to none. I've been craving Chinese for a while and I heard good things about this place so figured why not (also helps they have a 20% discount for first time customers). I ordered the Age Tofu appetizer and the black bean shrimp dish (I added eggplant and asked for it spicy). Everything was perfect. The tofu was great, the shrimp dish had so many veggies and lots of shrimp, NO SKIMPING HERE! The only thing is that there were a lot of carrots and I'm not a huge bunny rabbit carrot-lover so next time I guess I'll keep that in mind with my order modifications. The best part though...Seamless said delivery would take 45-60 minutes, but they were at my door in less than a half hour. Solid. read more

The workers then opened the windows, put up a divider, and sat us right by the windows, so we were "outside", without the rain. We ordered and got our food within ten minutes!
