Al is a master! Fabulous service and a delightful gentleman! I found exactly what I was looking for in outside porch and patio lights for my home without any problem. I got 10 fixtures, they were ordered and in within the week. Thank you so very much, Al! read more

Great quality and massive choice of home lighting decor. Been shopping there for past 30 years. Owner is the best.

My realtor recommended this place to me and wow, it has a lot of beautiful treasures! The owner is very kind and helpful and finding the right light for your space. So happy with my purchase and I can't wait to install it! read more

I needed some lights and fans for a project, Mark was so helpful and the prices were great. My client decided they did not like one of the units, Mark did not argue and complain just ordered another for them and kept them happy. I will never buy another light or fan anywhere else. read more

My wife Kathy and I had some time to kill, we were near Martinez so we decided to walk around downtown. As we were walking Kathy said that she noticed a light store as we drove into town. We weren't really shopping for lights but we did find Lights of Diablo and stopped in. Denise greeted us as we entered, I told her we were just looking, attracted like bugs to the lights. Lo and Behold! We both were intrigued by the same light. "That would look good in the dining room!" I asked Denise a couple of questions about the light that she couldn't answer right away so I gave her my number. She called a little while later to confirm that the light would work for our sloped ceiling. Later she texted that Mark could offer me the one hanging in the showroom for an excellent price. After the weekend I texted Denise that we would purchase the light. When we arrived on Tuesday Mark had it packed and ready to go, loaded it into my truck and off we went to install the light. Friendly excellent service all around. read more

Lights of Diablo - New Dining Room Light - Lighting Fixtures & Equipment Near Me - Martinez, California

What a great place good value and great selection. And the owner, what a good guy. In my book that makes all the difference.

Today my daughter and I walked around downtown Martinez and wondered into this light fixture showroom. We were immediately greeted by a very friendly gentleman who I believe was the owner. He and a lady were talking causally and shared a few things about the showroom and a few of the fixtures that we had questions about. He told us that most of the fixtures were half off the top price on the price tag. He also showed us a pop-up across the street and another little store we were interested in. After having a very informative conversation he told us that if we needed anything that they would be happy to help and gave us the hours of availability. Based on our experience today, not only would we revisit but we would also recommend giving them your business if you are looking for any kind of lighting unit. read more

How does this place stay open? Every time I have tried to go inside it's closed. Sunday Farmers Market day (tons of people coming and walking around?) no. Closed. Thursday afternoon at 3:30? No. Closed. Super disappointing because I would like to support local but it looks like I'll be needing to shop at another big box store or online. read more

The owner was super-knowledgeable and provided attentive, upbeat customer service-- this shop offers a vast array of unique and current fixtures appropriate for any aspect of a home and at an affordable price. It was a pleasurable shopping experience through-and-through. BTW- the hours of operation are clearly posted, and with multiple decades of experience, this local business has definitely earned my full five stars! read more

If you have never visited Lights of Diablo you are doing yourself an injustice. Mark Shoemaker, owner, is an absolute gem. From start to finish we could not be happier working with him. I highly recommend this store and it's the best customer service that we have ever experienced....... read more

I've been relying on Mark's expertise & great taste for close to 20 years. It all began with me taking him pictures of my home inside & out. He would immediately suggest wonderful lighting & ceiling fan designs. i love every piece he's helped me place in what I refer to as my sanctuary. The service & selection here is outstanding! The quality is beyond my expectations but the most AMAZING experience you'll have, is experiencing Mark's depth of knowledge, sense of vision for lighting to "your desires" and making sure your experience with him is the best you'll have with any company in your lifetime. You won't want to buy lighting/ceiling fans anywhere else after meeting him & his amazing staff including his son. Be sure to catch him Tuesdays thru Saturdays. read more

Awhile back, I decided to change many of the fixtures in my Albany home. I got a little picky and ended up buying from a few sources, including Menard's in Spencer Iowa. I ended up with some nice pieces from Lights of Diablo that I didn't have to carry on an airplane. Store staff was helpful and came up with some nice practical solutions my various light "puzzles". I recommend that you give them a shout before you head off to one of the home improvement chains. read more

I had a load of lights I needed to purchase and would have liked to give this small local store some of my business. Unfortunately when I went in there, every light I pointed out on the wall or in catalogs got an "oh...you don't want that," and in one case when I described something I was looking for a, "you won't find that for under $1000" from the owner. I left the store feeling frustrated, but still called later to get pricing on a couple of the lights I was interested in. Never got a return phone call. I can't understand all the hurdles and roadblocks from this light store. I'm more interested in solutions, so I moved on and found what I needed elsewhere. read more

This place is a joke. They have tons of lights, but the customer service is zero. Walked in on a referral and as another reviewer mentioned, lady at counter hardly acknowledged us. When we told her what we were looking for, she said "over on that wall" without offering any assistance. When I asked if there were more options, she said "we have thousands in books," as if this was an option that would take days and was beyond her energy, and offered no assistance, no offer to see the books, nothing. The bald guy, who I assume is the owner? then came in and asked if he could help. When I told him what fixtures I was looking for, he immediately went to a promo item. When that didn't work, and when he saw I wasn't an electrician, he basically gave up. When I asked to see more options in their "books," he copied 2 pages for me. I asked if there were more options to see, and I could see he was losing his patience. All I wanted was someone to spell out for me the different kind of fixtures, prices, options. They gave minimal effort. When another guy was waiting with a question, the guy left me and went to him without any sort of acknowledgement. When he saw I was still waiting, he said "are you waiting for something?" I said I had a few more questions, and he said he could do 2 things at once, then proceeded to go back to the other man. At that point, I got my friends and walked out. They did not acknowledge me when I left, or the business they lost. I just can't believe they can stay in business being selective with customers. When there's no effort to help a customer out in order to make a potentially big sale, then sayonara. read more

We have purchased all of our Hinkley brand house lights here. Their prices and customer service are fantastic. We had a problem with a chandelier that was damaged and they replaced it for us in a timely manner. Their return policy is extremely fair. Super knowledgeable, helpful and talented designers who are willing to help with all your lighting needs. They have the most fabulous selection and endless books of options to help if they don't have what you want in stock PLUS they'll suggest items to you if you give them a sense of what your looking for. Notably, they offer the best prices in the business -- better than a lamps plus or some other generic business and you get SOO much more. Mark is amazing and the selection and service is above & beyond. You can take pictures of rooms in your home or the outside of your home and he will provide recommendations to match your style and enhance your home. His on-site products are plenty and displayed beautifully. If he doesn't have what you're looking for, he'll find it in a catalog for you. I won't do business with any other lighting store. read more

We bought two lights for our bathroom vanity area. The store is relatively small but has a decent selection crammed into the store. The lady who helped us was quite patient and helpful. We did a special ortbut found that their prices were quite good and lower than Amazon and other websites. This was true even for replacement bulbs. I recommend this store. read more

Great selection of lights- the young lady that helped me select my lighting fixtures was super helpful and patient. I found the prices to be reasonable and I was very happy to support a local business! I'll definitely be back! read more

Great lighting store! I walked in looking to find a match to a pendant lamp I already own. I was greeted by a guy eating a sandwich, and he asked if I had a picture of what I was looking for. I showed it to him, and he said "yep I have one of those up in the attic somewhere." He stopped eating and went up there, and in a few minutes came back down with it. It was a perfect match! I had been in lighting stores around the east bay recently looking for this lamp and noticing prices and his prices are very good. Turns out the guy was Mark, the owner. Very friendly guy. I highly recommend paying him a visit after you've been to other stores. You'll walk out buying something. read more

"...the owner is a bit quirky..." We ordered Hinkley lights through this store - needed to return as they didn't fit. It took perseverance and a strong will to get the owner to accept them back so we could order a set that did fit. All that and a levy of 25% "restocking fee" to boot. "Quirky" no... obnoxious yes. read more

We just happened to be passing by this store and went in (we were also in need of a new fixture). They have so many beautiful lights, chandeliers and fixtures, it was amazing. Plus they have all the catalogs from all the really nice vendors. Their prices are very reasonable, the staff is extremely helpful and the owner was just fantastic. I would recommend this place to all my friends and family. Plus I like the fact that I am buying from a local business and not some chain store. I am so pleased to be getting an original piece that I am not going to see in other homes. read more

This place is fantastic! I came here from Fremont on a friends recommendation. It is located in a beautiful building in historic downtown Martinez.. I had forgotten how beautiful and quaint this old downtown area was. Great variety of lighting products here (all you would ever need). Mark the owner is great and goes out of his way to help you. Their prices are very competitive if not better than anyone else's that i shopped and compared. I was impressed. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. read more

Just happened to be passing by and walked into this store looking for something unique. The lady behind the counter did not bother to look up, say hello, or inquire if she could even be of any assistance. Her friend walks and lo and behold, she actually can speak! Perhaps it was because she prejudged me. She definitely is NOT doing this business ANY justice. Definitely will not be returning. read more

If you're like me and your lighting experience consists of 2 isles in Lowes or Home Depot, you may think the prices here are high. They are, in as much as a Mercedes costs more than a Kia, but once you examine the detail, or heft a fixture in your hand and feel the weight of the build quality it will all make sense. Best selection, best advice, and very high quality merchandise. I always passed by on a Sunday and wasn't able to go in since they are closed, but I finally checked them out and bought a bathroom light that I couldn't be happier with. read more

This is an excellent business establishment. Mark Shoemaker, the owner, is so helpful and goes the distance in delivering outstanding customer focus. Be prepared to be patient if he's dealing with other customers, but he will get to you and you won't be disappointed. Like some other reviews, the customer service is terrible. I wasnt greeted when I walked in, the man behind the counter was helping another customer and never bothered to say a word to me. I waited several minutes, watched another customer walk in and out then I left also. As I was almost out the door he called out, "Ill be with you in a minute". Dont waste your time driving to Martinez and paying for parking. They only have one fan on display and most of the current lighting fixtures are not on display but shown through catalogs. read more

I enjoyed every aspect of working with Mark. He has abundant knowledge that he willingly and excitedly shares. He stocks well made products that I did not see elsewhere. When a product broke, he managed it quickly and without hesitation. After information about my space, he guided me to the most appropriate products and explained why they would work best. I am thrilled with the end result and will shop here first in the near future. read more

A great place to buy lighting! The owner, Mark, is very helpful and provides great feedback. We were going to buy some outdoor lights and he felt the size would be too large for what we wanted. To help us out (and prove himself right!) he allowed us to take a similar sized light home...we bought the smaller one. We've purchased several interior and exterior lights from this store. We only had one small problem, a glass casing came broken. They had a repalcement for us in a matter of days. Talk to Mark and ask for a "smoke'n deal"! read more
