Dear Berkeley Lighting, Oh, I am so sorry to hear you've closed. Thank you for so many years of beautiful, caring service. I loved coming to the store! I am going to miss you very, very much and wish you all the very best. Love, Sharon read more

The wide variety of lighting choices is excellent, meriting four stars. It is the unbelievable customer service that pushes the store into the five-star review. Stratosphere. Rather than buying new lights, I've been retrofitting dilapidated vintage lights into our cottage. One of the light mechanisms in an old factory pen lamp was screwed up more than I could decipher with a voltmeter. I brought the offending light to Berkeley Lighting, and they dove in and fixed the problem with only a little bit of digging through the spare bits of a hardware box. I am pleased beyond belief, and I know where I'll be going the next time I need to purchase lighting. read more

Outstanding customer service. I needed a light bulb for a dimming ceiling fixture and I didn't want to go to home depot. Even though it was a $5 transaction, they provided hands on attention to me and demonstrated the output of bulbs with different levels of brightness and whiteness. They even lent out several bulbs to me for the price of one so I could test out at home. I felt incredibly well attended to as a low end customer, which speaks to their prioritization of quality service. read more

If the saying is "killing with kindness" today was the equivalent of being drawn and quartered. I go in with a sorta complicated problem and one of the people proceeds to research and print out for me a couple web pages for a solution that I would buy at Home Depot, not there. Plan B was something they sold. I opted for plan B. Anytime you have lighting needs, go here first; support a local business; they have a huge variety of lighting; if they don't have it they know who might. You might not walk out with what you need, but you'll walk out smarter. read more

I was on the hunt for a unique ceiling fixture for my home office. With such a wide variety of styles and options available in the shop, I knew I had to make a thoughtful choice. Thankfully, Michael was friendly/ knowledgeable, and took the time to explain the functionality of different lamps. His insights made it straightforward for me to select the perfect product. . read more

This place is fantastic. I have bought many lights here for years. They are so helpful and courteous. Highly recommended.

A beautiful shop with high end and some middle end light fixtures. Very nice employees. I would deduct 1 star because they seem a little expensive for their lighting, but lighting is expensive so buyer beware read more

Berkeley lighting company helped us with a lighting project in our kitchen and we are definitely customers for life now. We worked with Mike - he is incredibly knowledgeable. He set us up with all of the bits and pieces we needed across the whole project, and he did so flawlessly. He understood what we wanted immediately, did all sorts of crazy math that I now *almost* understand (because he explained it so patiently), and the output was: the perfect lighting solution. Our kitchen is now functionally lit and also bright, warm, and welcoming. I can't recommend this place (and especially Mike!) highly enough. read more

Excellent service and broad selection! Very helpful and knowledgeable staff without being pushy.

First time coming here and was in awe of all the different lights they carry! Literally everything you need is here! Also it's hard to find just a light store in the bay area. Hubby and I came with the intention of looking for a bathroom vanity light but found so much more! The bathroom light we found was a bar style which is contemporary and will sit above our mirror. It has the dimmable option and is bright enough to light up our 8ft by 8ft bathroom. It was $250 before tax. You are also able to control the warmness of the light too. They did not have our light in shock but it will ship from Los Angeles in 1.5 to 2 weeks. We had the option to pay half now and half later or pay in full which is great depending on how much your light costs. On top of a bathroom light we saw foyer lights, outdoor pathway lights, floor lamps, table lamps, dining table lights and more! All with so many styles and there is something for everyone! It ranges from modern to artistic to classic styles. The foyer light we wanted was $900 and has super cool circles within each other! There was a smaller option for $225 but go big or go home right? So next time we will buy the foyer light when we are for sure ready to buy. The reason we didn't was because if you return there is a 25% restocking fee so we want to be sure we want it before committing! All the workers were super helpful and welcoming. If they did not know the answers they found out for us. They checked in with us multiple times to make sure we were being helped even though it was busy. I definitely recommend this light store. read more

My experience getting my lamp repaired here today was a wonder of efficiency and good customer service.

Really good store. Excellent service. They have a wide variety of very nice lighting. I went there looking for some new track lighting. They help me find a much more affordable option which was to replace the canisters in my current track lighting. read more

Great place to buy a lighting fixture. Store personnel are very helpful and don't pressure to buy when you first come in. We have purchased two fixtures in the last several months. They have a great selection of lights plus catalogs for other lights not on the floor. Just be prepared for a burst of light when you walk into the store. It's definitely worth a trip instead of buying online. read more

Are you a broke college student in need of a clip-on goose-neck lamp? You're in the wrong place. Turn around and go the the Student Union, Ace Hardware, or go dumpster diving. I can see how you might have been lured in here with an image of Cal's Campanile in their branding and on the carpet that welcomes you. Make no mistake about it, though, this is a high end lighting store! Sure, you can find cheaper and more run-of-the-mill lighting at Home Depot, but this place is a veritable candy store for lighting. When you enter, the initial view may look a bit cacophonous -- but it's actually just a lot of stuff -- and there is a method to the organization. We've been there three times now, and we're already looking forward to going back to pick up our most recent order. Whether you're looking for floor lighting, desk lamps, track lighting, under cabinet, porch lights, etc., they have it all. . . . and that's just what you see out. They have reams of catalogs to choose from and from which to place special orders. What makes this company even *more* amazing is their customer service; they genuinely want to help, and you'll probably be greeted within a few minutes of entering. They won't crowd you or hover - in fact, you should prepare to be a bit patient since it can get busy at times. That's OK, there's PLENTY to look at while you're there. Be forewarned, there are soooo many cool things, you'll probably end up considering, if not buying, things you didn't know you just had to have until you saw it. As you look around, you may very well be shocked by the prices of some of the higher end pieces. Eeek! Some of those are works of art, though, and when you see something that's handcrafted in Germany and built to last a lifetime, you might expect to pay a pretty penny. The first time you look at that thing that's out of the ballpark, you may wince. The second time you look at it, you'll see its beauty. Be warned though, if you keep looking at it, you may start to justify how it'll fit into your budget by eating top ramen for the rest of your life. Fear not, though, the sales team does not work on commission, so you don't have to worry that they're just trying to sell you something. They're knowledgeable, inspiring, and will try to help you find the best thing to fit your needs and budget. We'd especially like to call out Eric, who has helped us a number of times, and has been simply amazing! He really goes above and beyond, has a great sense of humor, always gives us honest feedback, and even remembered us and our conversations even from our first visit. I never thought I would nerd out on lighting, but I'm hooked. Do yourself a favor, even if you're just looking for a new lamp, go visit this place. It will change the way you look at lighting. read more

I don't as frustrated by a non-working light that I purchased from Berkeley Lighting for my bedroom. Even my electrician threw up his hands. When Sean, the owner of Berkeley Lighting, found out he offered to take care of it. He came to my house and installed :two: new lights and they are working well. This is customer service at its very best. He said that if I have any problems with the lights I should let him know. Kudos to Sean and Berkeley Lighting. Customer service +++. I had a little hiccup with an order, that was placed during the busiest preholiday time, but it was taken care of fantastically. Berkeley Lighting epitomizes the added benefit you get from a brick and mortar business. Personalized service: We walked in thinking we wanted a certain light fixture, but then we were educated about the particulars of our set up and the obstacles we'd encounter. THANK YOU FOR THAT SERVICE!!! Not attempt to up-sell. Just trying to assess our needs, and find appropriate options to consider Patient! Generous! They fixed a standing lamp while we were looking at kitchen fixtures. No fee! read more

I had a fantastic experience at Berkeley Lighting. I brought in a vintage wrought iron chandelier that needed rewiring, and the owner was incredibly kind and helpful from the start. He explained that these kinds of repairs typically take a few weeks, but after I shared how urgent the situation was, he made the extra effort to get it back to me the very next day. He was thoughtful, considerate, and even walked the chandelier out to my car and helped me load it. You can really tell he cares about his work and his customers. If you need electrical repairs, do yourself a favor and come here first--this is the kind of honest, quality service that's hard to find. read more

I happened to be in the area and in search of floor lamps. One person was being assisted and browsed while I waited. A couple of gentlemen came in after and also browsed. Another salesman came to assist and went immediately to the men. I looked up in surprise as I was not greeted as I walked in the door nor at that point. The initial salesman saw my face and as I turned to walk out, he yelled that I would be helped as soon as they had time. I continued and walked out of the door. Acknowledge customers when they arrive and direct your sales staff to help the next person in 'line' or at least ask who is next to be served. First and last time there. read more

I bought this beautiful chandelier in Istanbul (yes, I brought it back in my suitcase) planning to replace my living room light. Instead, I figured why not turn it into a standing lamp. Took both pieces here and they quoted me a 30 day turn around and $200. 3 days after I made the order, I got a call that they had finished and it was 1/2 the quoted price. Talk about excellent service! And it's soooo pretty!!! read more

Great store, large varied selection of beautiful lighting for all residential interior and exterior applications. Excellent customer service. I found a perfect light for an 11- foot ceiling in my San Francisco Victorian, and it was a great value. read more

Unfortunately, Berkeley Lighting has a different ownership. The person who helped me with my shopping was an unenthusiastic young individual who needed more spark and knowledge to do the job right. I was charged a restocking fee of 25% for changing the lamp's color, and my order still needed to arrive! So I went to the store to complain, and they showed me the receipt with the new policies in fine print, as I should have checked it before buying the merchandise. I never had that experience before! read more

Robert was EXTREMELY knowledgable and helpful! We went in with a vague idea, after researching online and going to 3 other stores in San Francisco. My husband wants to see things in person, so we wanted to try our luck. Robert asked what we are looking for: a chandelier that is fitting into a Victorian house's entryway, it's not too traditional but not too modern, maybe an orb....we didn't really know what are we looking for. Robert understood the assignment! He showed us 5 things, and we instantly liked at least 3 - none of that happened during the previous 3 store visits. He was so knowledgeable, helpful, and we ended up finding not just what we were looking for, but also what we were not: a new chandelier for the dining room! Thank you Robert! read more

Berkeley Lighting - Enigma light by Poulsen - Lighting Fixtures & Equipment Near Me - Berkeley, California

I just had a fantastic, unexpected, and unusually good service encounter at Berkeley Lighting -- the type of thing that really does encourage in-person shopping rather than online (and I'm a big online shopper). We bought a large order of light fixtures several years ago for a residential rewiring project and one of the led lights was going bad recently, so I brought it back in for some advice and replacement. I was fully ready to buy a replacement, but the extremely friendly and helpful Sean Mirbaha told me that the light should not have failed so soon and he quickly grabbed several replacement options at no cost. He went above and beyond and I left the store feeling good about people and surprised with such a pleasant interaction. Both Sean and Berkeley Lighting deserve our business! read more

Berkeley Lighting - Recent purchase. - Lighting Fixtures & Equipment Near Me - Berkeley, California

Amazing service at Berkeley Lighting today. We came in with a reading lamp that we purchased at this store 25 years ago that stopped working. Manager Robert Wien took it apart and identified the burned-out socket, but told us that the replacement parts are no longer available. Then he got an idea, and switched out the halogen fixture with an LED fixture, fishing around in boxes of old parts as he rewired the whole thing. So, we saved a couple of hundred bucks (double that, actually, because we would have had to replace the matching lamp, too), saved this lamp from the landfill, and only had to pay $12 for the new bulb! No charge for the service! Thank you, Robert and Berkeley Lighting! read more
