The quality of lumber here is noticeably better than at other places. In my opinion it is absolutely worth the slightly higher price tag. As was paying the small delivery fee. Which was waived in the end due to the amount of the purchase! We had a fence blow down and are replacing it. We ordered online after signing up to get a 10% discount. It doesn't come off at first. Make sure you get yourself that 10%! Ordering was very easy as was the website. Scheduling was a breeze. I texted back and forth with Angelique, very helpful she was! Delivery was flawless. Just wanted to share my awesome experience with Ashby Lumber lately! I've been building a pretty sweet backyard oasis - a Trex deck and two redwood pergolas - and Ashby's been a lifesaver. I've used them before and always loved their stuff. This time, I started by getting a Trex quote online. Lilia Hosmer, their sales specialist, got back to me super fast with a fantastic price! I had a few questions, and she answered them quickly and clearly. Then, things kinda snowballed! I decided to add a pergola over my hot tub patio (concrete, naturally!), and then *another* one over a Trex deck attached to my home office. Each time, Lilia emailed back with a price within an hour - seriously amazing response time. Between all the changes and a small return of some extra redwood, I ended up with six invoices, but the whole process was so smooth. It's so rare these days to find someone like Lilia - actually talking to a real person who's helpful and courteous is a breath of fresh air! She's been fantastic throughout the whole project. If it were possible to give Lilia a 10 star rating I would definitely do it. read more

The wait time to get material are ridiculous. Bad enough you have to wait some time to place your order but then you have to sit in your vehicle for up to 15 minutes until somebody comes to help you. They don't have enough staffing to support the business. Need to get a new manager.! read more

Their wood quality is good, I'll give them that. But this company really does the bait and switch often. Our contractor ordered some redwood wood siding for our house remodel and paid for the order. Then come pick up time, turns out they didn't have it in stock. Our contractor then talked to Roberto who was the salesperson. Roberto apparently told our contractor that the wood siding would be available Friday of last week. Okay, not a huge deal. Our contractor ended up visiting the store Friday and yet again was told that it wasn't in stock. The website itself says it's in stock. But their actual inventory doesn't have it. So why the hell is the number there? Apparently our contractor was told it was a "computer issue." So our contractor got his money returned back to him. When our contractor asked how long it would be for an actual shipment, he was told 2 months. Are you kidding? Our project is now halted for 2 months because this company couldn't get their computer situation sorted out. That or they're selling wood they don't have for the money and hoping people don't notice. My dad now had to call Ashby himself in which now we're waiting on another salesperson named Bill to let him know sometime this week whether it's in stock? I'm hoping Bill keeps to his word but I'm pretty annoyed by this entire situation. read more

We are so incredibly happy that we came to Ashby lumber after a bad experience at Foster lumber in Vallejo. We built a deck in our backyard last month, and the wood we ordered from Foster was incredibly dried out and not anywhere near the quality we expected (our bad for placing the $2,000 order for lumber without seeing the wood for ourselves first). We live in Benicia, so we went to Foster lumber because it was closer. Lesson learned: from here on out we will make the trip to Ashby lumber in Concord. Because the lumber from Foster was so dry and ugly, we decided to try this company, Ashby lumber for the steps and the railing. We were SO happy with the wood that we received. Our only complaint is that we used any of the wood from Foster to make our deck in the first place. We can see the difference in quality between the deck and the stairs and railing. You can really tell which wood came from where in the blink of an eye-- the crappy wood from Foster and the beautiful wood from Ashby. We will use this lumberyard for all of our future wood projects. That was about 3 years ago now, and I can honestly say that I have not worked with anyone that has more industry knowledge than Jeff. Ashby has an elite business professional on their hands, and he is such a fantastic brand ambassador. I recently placed an order for TimberTech for my deck project. They were very easy to deal with and the product was delivered in 2 days even though they had to order it. Their delivery driver delivered it quietly and put it in the perfect spot for the project. Great customer service. Good sales team that support each other. This is my second time ordering material for delivery and it was even better than the first. Late Wednesday evening I emailed a material list for them to quote and I asked that it be delivered on Friday. By Thursday afternoon I didn't get a response so I called at 3pm. The sales rep I had emailed my list to wasn't in that day, so he wasn't able to quote me. The sales rep who answered the phone immediately took it on herself. Needed just a few 2x4s to fix a board. The only issue was the vehicle we had to get them wasn't conducive for hauling lumber at full length sticks. We needed them cut down to size for our project and they had no problem cutting them down to size for us. Very attentive and helpful staff with a great inventory. Their sales staff don't really know wood that well. As someone who was hoping to buy some wood to make a table, I trusted their expertise which apparently they don't have. They sold me a piece of wood that was somewhat stained, though they told me that it was wet and that the stain would go away. We also found the the wood in the stained area smelled like vomit which we assumed would also go away. I screwed in the legs to the table assuming that the stain and the smell would go away, they never did. I called Ashby Lumber hoping that they would exchange the tainted wood for a good piece but they declined because of some BS policy that once it's drilled or altered, it cannot be exchanged EVEN THOUGH they sold me shit wood. I googled "vomit smell and birch" and found that birch can get a bacteria that causes a rank vomit smell THAT CANNOT be mitigated. So fair warning: if you don't know wood, I would avoid Ashby Lumber because they will sell you their garbage stock and not honor a return. read more
