Looking for a killer view of the Pacific Ocean? Don't want to lay $300 dollars down for a bay view in SF? Drive 25 minutes south and check out Pacifica. Fun little beach town with plenty of character. My parents and I have started a new tradition where we stay here every year to soak up the ocean view. I've been to Pacifica a handful of times living only two hours away. This hotel isn't the Ritz, JW or even an Embassy Suites, it's a Best Western. It is however, affordable, right on the damn water and affordable. The view is what you're paying for, this is the closest hotel to the water, unless you drop $500 and head down to the Ritz Carlton in Half Moon Bay. Service is great, everyone is very nice and assertive. They upgraded us to a full ocean view instead of the partial. I'd recommend trying to get rooms 327-332 if you're looking for an awesome view. In the morning we headed over to the bluff where you can hike about half a mile to the top of the bluff, which gives you a beautiful view of the area and Mori Point/downtown Pacifica. Overall, is the hotel a 5 star? no. 4 Star? no. 3 star? yes. Will you be experiencing 4 star service? Yes. This place is reasonable and has a great view. read more

A few months back, wifey and I ran away from the bustle of work to spend a weekend here. Spur of the moment and no reservations. The receptionist was very friendly and warm. We managed to get a large room with a great view. The room was clean and spacious. WIFI worked fine and we had a great time in town. Cons: As one should expect from a hotel that is right on the shore, there is some weathering. The driveway in the parking garage was always wet and there will be and was, rust here and there. The passenger elevator was quite small but posed no problems for us and our one suitcase. A very nice hotel for those that are looking for a decent price, large room, friendly staff and a peaceful stay. I liked it here and will be back. read more

We were evacuees from the Kincaid fire in California. When we arrived at the hotel, the power had been shut off as a precaution. We stayed two nights with no power and didn't complain. Then the manager closed the hotel because they didn't have enough guests and left us stranded. Didn't even try to find us other accommodations! read more

I stayed in this hotel last night 4-10-19 to attend my Sons Wedding. Upon my arrival I was told I was being upgraded to a Junior Suite. I'm thinking .. Awsome. The room should be twice as nice. To my disbelief, the only good thing about this room was the view. Very close to the crashing waves on the Beach. The room .. disgusting. I know it's advertised pet friendly. However, I don't own a pet so my room should not have the scent of one. The carpets were stained in the entire room space. The furniture had disgusting large stains of an unknown substance . I literally did not want to set any of my belongings down anywhere. I didn't complain because I arrived in town with little time to get ready and head over to my sons wedding. I slept in my slippers and tried to only touch what was necessary. The price for this room, to include a discount for my Military service, was outrageous!! I will never stay here again!!.. Additional note ... Customer Service was less than desirable. UPDATE.. THE LIGHTHOUSE HOTEL has contacted me and on behalf of the Hotel issued an apology and refunded me in full for my short stay. I would like to say thank you for the swift resolution and any apprehension I was feeling has since diminished. This is CUSTOMER SERVICE at its best. read more

This isn't your ordinary Best Western, but it sure looks like one from the outside! Other than the amazing beachfront location, this hotel is dumpy outside. But, that's the only bad news. The interior has been completely renovated. We got a Junior Suite with an ocean view. The rooms are lovely, quiet, comfortable and spacious. The shower was hot with plenty of water pressure. The staff was friendly and helpful with knowledgeable referrals to local restaurants and bars. Best Western is a go-to dog-friendly hotel chain. And my dog enjoyed her stay here, too. The location is amazing, whether you want to hang out on the beach or spend the day in San Francisco. Great for a weekend get-away. We'll be back. read more

I just wrapped up a wonderful stay at the Best Western Plus Lighthouse Hotel. It's a very quiet hotel at the beach with stunning views. The Moonraker restaurant inside was a great! Toby and Irene at the front desk were wonderful. All the staff from the cleaning crew to maintenance were very nice. Rooms were very clean. If you have a chance to visit San Francisco, please make a reservation to stay here! Also, next door is a restaurant called "Breakers." It's Def worth checking out! read more

It was kind of confusing when trying to find our room since we were in room 449 so we had to take a separate elevator but it was close to where we parked to it worked out. Pound for pound, this is an amazing hotel, if you get the right room. I wanted to visit the bay area and didn't want to stay in hustle and bustle of the city. The area: Pacifica is a sleepy beach town where you don't have to worry about crazy crowds. There are unique restaurants that you must try, regardless of your palate. The hotel is located is a small cluster of shops off the main highway. Rockaway Beach is peaceful and beautiful. The hotel's location is far enough from the busy city but close enough to get there within minutes. The hotel is right on the beach. Although its exterior is not as crisp as the Holiday Inn up the street, the location makes up for it. This is a no frills place but with its amazing location, it doesn't need it. The room was clean and the beds were fine. The only drawback was the smoke smell that greeted us entering the room. Opening the sliding door took care of that, however I don't like being greeted by a smoke smell. I stayed in an oceanfront room on the third floor and the views were amazing. Waking up to the sound of waves crashing is a nice experience. The staff was courteous and helpful and parking was sufficient. Overall, this is a great hotel if you're planning on visiting the Bay Area and are looking for nice experience. read more

My BF recently took me here for my b-day for the weekend. The hotel is ok looking from the outside, nothing fancy. It is however right on the water which is really nice. So my BF had booked just a standard room with a view of the ocean, but when we checked in they said they upgraded us to a Jr. suite with a fireplace.....score!! Well by the looks of the parking lot, it wasn't too full. Any how it was very nice of them to upgrade us. Our room was very spacious and comfortable and CLEAN!! They could do some upgrades on the tv's...old and small. Our room did have a view, but it also looked over part of the parking lot and a roof. We asked for a late check out which they granted. All in all it was a nice room and a very friendly staff. If we are ever in the area again we will probably stay again. I would usually comment on the price, but since it was for my b-day I don't know if the price was worth it, but my BF says it is slightly high, but not too bad. Plus we got upgraded read more

This isn't the nicest hotel I've ever stayed at, but it was nice enough. It was right on the beach and we had a nice view. The room was comfortable and clean. It was a very nice little getaway. The restaurant in the hotel was nice, but very expensive. Service was pretty decent. The cleaning person came right into our room without knocking first. We didn't have the do not disturb sign up, but I have always known the cleaning staff to knock first regardless. They have cookies upon arrival and fresh fruit upon check out. If I could give this hotel zero stars I would. We stayed there this weekend and there wasn't a room ready at checkin time so we had to check in late, they had zero silverware or plastic utensils so we couldn't eat our food, when we called the desk and told them it was freezing and there were no batteries in the remote to the ac we were told "sorry I can't leave my desk" so we had to freeze all night cuddled up with a one year old. The WiFi didn't work at all so we had to leave the hotel any time we needed to use the internet. It seemed like everything was broken, dirty, or not available. My husband and I will not be back and will not be recommending this place to anyone. The girl at the desk stopped answering our calls (she was probably annoyed and I feel bad for her if she really couldn't leave her desk because her hands were tied) but where is management? I've never stayed in a hotel that didn't provide basic cutlery (plastic would have been fine), promised WiFi but didn't provide it, promised a nice warm room but couldn't even provide the tools to adjust the heat. My husband did say the soap in the shower was nice. I elected not to shower because I was ready to just get the hell out of there. 10000% do not book this place. Not worth the $200. read more

Nice sleepy little hotel. The hotel is right on the beach, nestled between some motels. The hotel itself is a little bit strange. The parking lot is huge and almost always empty, but finding your way to your room from the parking can be difficult. The women working the front desk were nice, and since we booked in advance, we had our keys within seconds of walking through the door. (Tip: we booked on the main best western site, and received a better rate than directly on this hotel's website.) The hotel has many different elevators, on different sides of the hotel, but since they are slow and there is only one elevator per section of the hotel, I would recommend taking the stairs. My boyfriend and I stayed in a room on the 4th floor (the top floor). We booked a partial ocean view, which looked out on the pool. The pool is located on the first floor, and so there was a very clear view of the waves and the beach. The waves were strong, and so at night, we opened the patio door and could hear the waves crashing while we slept, which was very nice. The room itself was nothing to write home about. There is a mini fridge, but no microwave. There is no actual closet, but a small area to put your suitcase and to hang some clothes by the entrance. The bed was ok, but definitely not the most comfortable that I have ever slept on. The hotel provides free wifi, but I cannot really comment about the speed since we didn't use it much. The flat screen tv offered the standard cable channels (up to about 60 if you know the bay area channels). There is a heater control inside the room, but it does not measure the actual temperature. There was no air conditioning or safe. The patio was very small (too small for chairs.) The hotel room floor shook slightly as people walked up and down the stairs, which was rather annoying. Unfortunately, we did not have a chance to try the restaurant, but it is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We did try one of the restaurants near the property, but overall the area was pretty dead, other than the people fishing and walking their dogs. There is a coffee place very close to the hotel, but they only take cash. The view here is amazing. There is a lookout a few steps from the hotel, and from there you can watch surfers during the day. The area is very dog friendly. Also, there are some lovely mini trials on both sides of the hotel, which is great for a short walk/hike. Overall I liked that the hotel was on the beach, and that you really did get a good view of the water. I only wished that there were more shops around the hotel, so that you could walk more rather than drive. read more

Love it. The rooms are always clean. The Cove view rooms allow you to listen to the ocean all through the night. The energy in this place is comfortable and inviting. The restaurant " The Moonraker" is 5 star in my book and the seafood is always fresh when I've had it. Plus right across the street is "Nick's" where you can enjoy live music and cocktails without having to drive anywhere. If I could rate it higher I would but I guess 5 stars will have to do. read more

The look on my wife's face said, I did good. Our 9th anniversary was coming up and my wife wanted to see San Francisco. I'd lived in San Jose, and went to Electronics School on Treasure island, that was long before marrying this wonderful woman. I knew that a week wasn't much time to explore the Bay Area, I wanted to add a little romance and not be hurried. I did search Hotels in the City, but had a hard time wrapping my head around staying there. Somewhere, I kinda sorta remembered Pacifica, and I felt the need to be near the ocean. I spent weeks comparing places, all over the Bay Area. My wife was thinking about a Bed and Breakfast, and wasn't quite sure about staying outside of the City, but she trusted me with the choice of where to stay. For me, Pacifica called. Close to the City, but a world away. I checked reviews from Travel Sites and really wasn't that sure about this place. Travelers sure can be nit picky and Hotels tend to exaggerate a bit, but it was time to book, and I decided to check Yelp. "Great ocean view, large comfortable room and the soothing sound of the waves." One review had a picture from the room, I knew, I had to heed that call to be as close to the Ocean as possible. I booked a week at The Lighthouse. I enjoyed the staff, they were nice, and helpful, the Yelp reviews are accurate. Personally on the first night, I wondered about sleeping, hearing the Ocean, all night, that was not a problem. We ate most of our Breakfasts at the Moonraker, restaurant before heading out to explore San Francisco, which is an easy drive up HWY 1 or one of the freeways. We enjoyed our time here, you can't be closer to the Ocean, you can't beat the look on my wife's face, when she saw the view from our room. I'd love to be back. read more

Old. The first room we went into smokers obviously were there (room 122) and mixed with that humid ocean scent didn't go over to well. Also SOMEONE on that first floor was smoking some horrible weed thus multiplying the stink. Uug. Made a quick U-turn and went down to the front desk to change rooms. Got a room on the second floor. GREAT! Since we arrived at 7:30 pm we got dressed to go eat at Moonraker restaurant which had a FABULOUS view of the ocean/sunset. Food was ok. Crab cakes came out a bit burnt around the edges but edible, while my pot roast medallions with mashed potato was good. My wifes scallops was good also. No complaints. Desert of Creme brulle with Tiramisu one for each of us was excellent. So dinner was a solid C+ Service A+ Back to the room to relax with the sliding windows open and...the room next door people decided to smoke "outside" on the "balcony". So no ocean sound or smell for us as they smoked, smoked, and smoked some more while staying up till 2:30 am. To top it off may I recommend you get the TOP floor. As we were on the second we could here however lightly the occupants walked above us it was LOUD. My wif eis a light sleeper and could hear them stomping at various times of the night. Along with the smokers next door taking all night. That was our stay there and while a very small aspect of our visit was nice we won't be going back. as the price of admission is very smelly. These rooms need to be out fitted with airline smoke detectors in the rooms. Gents do realize the toilets are made for four foot people. They are VERY small and you'll have to um, alternate on what you want to do. You can't do both. I won't elaborate. Shower is NOT made for people under 5'5'. Ladies, if you don't want to get your hair wet you'll have to stand way back of the tub as the height of the shower head was tall for me reaching out my arm on my 5'10" frame. My wife often times wishes for flexible shower heads as they had in one Marriott. I won't elaborate. Bring sandles to wear around the room. Don't go barefooted on that carpet. Otherwise the view was excellent. read more

This is was 2nd time staying at this hotel. The first time it was just my husband and I. Last weekend, we brought our 3 boys (ages 2, 3, and 7). The hotel is a bit dated. The furniture is looks worn - but the OCEAN VIEW is worth the stay. We had a jr suite with a couch and a crib (couch was extremely worn). We had a full ocean view with a sliding patio door (no real balcony). We spent time at the beach with the boys, and hung out in our room. Theres also a fabulous restaurant next door that we went to for breakfast. We will stay again for sure. read more

My wife and I checked in here on a Thursday for our anniversary and stayed for 2 nights in a junior suite. Views were breathtaking as promised, and room (125) was amazing in so many ways... the bed was extremely comfortable, the room itself was very spacious, and everything was very clean. The best part was keeping our sliding door open through the night and sleeping to the soothing sounds of crashing waves. We will definitely be back! The only thing keeping me from giving this place a 5 star rating is the price. It was $302 for Thursday night and $328 for Friday night. Seems a little steep. The second time we called, they told us they aren't able to service our need because room service isn't available. Mind you, it was only 6PM and room service ends a 9PM. Phenomenal views from our room! But the hotel is outdated and showing major signs of damage and deterioration. Cracks in the walls, peeling wallpaper, smelly carpets, needs paint, etc. I gave it 3 stars because the front desk clerk was able to get us in early, otherwise, it would have been a 2 star review. We ate at the Moonraker on hotel property, which was lovely. The pool and hot tub were closed during our visit, so I'm unable to review that. My wife & I went here for our 1st anniversary. We both love the ocean & this is as close as you can get without being in it! It is a relatively older hotel, probably 15 years, but the location right on the ocean has worn the exterior of the building quite a bit & it looks older. The staff is professional and friendly, as all Best Westerns we've been in. The room is HUGE! Really clean to (on the inside). The only problems were on the outside...the deck was dirty, with cigarette butts and chicken bones left by a previous tenant. This dilapidated polished turd of a beach bungalow is located in the heart of Paciphilis and eagerly awaits your arrival. If your main state export is corn feed or manure, then this might be that California dream of a vacation that you've been dreaming about: it's located near the ocean and smells like shit. Locks on the doors you ask? Only the front one...here at Lighthouse we like to promote the communal life by providing you with a locking hall door and a non-functioning slider lock so that you can share your belongings with the guy that probably peed in the elevator after a few Irish carb bombs at the bar across the way. Want to get some cardio in? There's a great scenic trail behind the hotel where you'll either get knifed by a hobo or catch Lyme disease. If that's not your thing you can always participate in the key card relay dash: you cards will work for the stairwells, but not your room. How many times? 3 on average, giving you a brisk half mile walk to our smiley, yet incompetent desk staff! And if you fancy a bite, please walk upstairs since our elevator is broken to be greeted by our rude hostess neighbor at The Moonraker. We pride ourselves on less than mediocre service and clean bedsheets. Come visit! read more

We had our destination wedding down the road at La Costanera in Montara and used the Best Western Lighthouse as the hub for our guests to stay. We ultimately booked just over 30 rooms with them. The staff was wonderful, everyone was friendly and accommodating. We provided the front desk with welcome bags to hand out to all guests in our block, which they did. We were hoping for a bit more of a price break since we were booking so many rooms (we got basically the AAA discount that they give everyone) but were told it is their busy season when they sell out anyway - so there was no incentive to help us out....which I get but still, it would have been nice. The rooms were all clean and many of them have great ocean views. There is more within walking distance than I expected which was nice since none of our guests were familiar with the area. The Moonraker restaurant attached to the Hotel is awesome - pricey, but the food is amazing and the views are wonderful. Overall, great Best Western. read more

This was a nice hotel; clean rooms, staff was helpful, beds were very comfortable with nice linens. We had a family of 6 (3 adults, 3 kids) in two rooms that were two doors apart. They did have adjoining rooms, but we arrived on the Saturday of a holiday weekend and all had already been assigned, which we understood - it was nice that they took the effort to get us that close. We had family staying at the Pacifica Beach Hotel up the street and they were quite unhappy with that hotel, and told us how much NICER our hotel was than theirs. Our only main complaint was noise (try to get a 4th floor room if you don't want to hear people stomping on the ceiling above you). One night at 10:30 we did call the front desk because I was having a hard time getting my son to sleep from the noise, and they did call the room above us and they quieted down. The workout room was disappointing; very tiny with only a couple pieces of equipment. Free wifi and a refrigerator in the room were nice. They have a few microwaves that can be brought up if you ask for one and if it's available. This is our only other complaint; we asked and were told one would be sent up. A half hour later we called to check on it, and they said they were all out. A call back would've been nice so we didn't have to chase it down, but aside from that, the staff was very helpful. Can't beat the location (right on the beach); GREAT view of the ocean and rocks from our room, and there are some great running/biking trails right out the door. There's ample free parking, but be sure to get the layout from the front desk before settling on the spot - different elevators take you to different areas of the hotel. We found a better rate directly through the hotel than on the online sites, and didn't have to prepay, so do check around first. read more

I got there and was given a non smoking room that smelt like smoke and wet dog which also couldn't reach the wifi router. I called the front desk and they switch me to the presidential suite which I thought was cool until I walked in and the suite smelled worst than the prior room. I paid for 2 nights but only stayed in it one night and paid to stay somewhere else because I couldn't deal with the smell. read more

I'm used to doing corporate events at fairly high end hotels, so when my new job told me that a Best Western was going to be the location for our 4 days sales training event, I didn't have high expectations. I was so impressed by the level of attention and care that the entire staff put into our event. The food was fantastic, the rooms were set up well, and the location was great. I am used to constant attendee complaints about room temperature during these types of events, which I never got here... the one day it got warm, we just opened the doors and let the ocean air come in. Shawn McNamara was my primary point of contact, and he especially went above and beyond to make sure that we were comfortable and happy., and I had many additional requests. In fact, he's probably the reason that I'm so happy to do another event here. My only complaint is something that has nothing to do with the hotel - there wasn't much to do outside of the hotel. In fact, when we took our attendees away from the hotel, they mentioned that the hotel food was better. So, all in all, highly recommended. read more

This hotel is trash. When we stayed in one of the suites, the sofa bed was broke and there were dirty underwear by the bed. When we spoke with the manager, he refused to compensate us for the sofa bed being broken and they never came to clean the dirty underwear off the floor. Spoke with corporate and they said it was up to the manager to make it right. The manager also blamed the front desk clerk for being inexperienced but it is his job to train her so ultimately it is still his issue. read more

OMG! AMAZING! Booked online, then upgraded to a suite when i got there. Ocean View on the corner (aka minimal neighbors) hit up the liquor store for wine, ordered in and enjoyed the GREAT VIEWS! Place is clean. Pool and hot tub are awesome after the sun sets or in the morning after a run on the beach, exploring the gorgeous rock formations, or hiking in the hills (all which are right there) Staff is very helpful, friendly, and nice even after 20 phone calls (hey-inquiring minds want to know)! No airport transport, but approx $35 cab ride from Pacifica. Airport is close by- 20 minutes or so. Ocean Beach is about half hour north. I couldn't have been happier with our stay here. Wasn't crowded and we felt like our group were the only ones around- besides mother nature. And I know for fact people from down below were wishing they too could be standing out on the balcony watching the sunset from the lighthouse best western while streaming music from wi-fi and sipping wine from fine plasticware..... read more

We're traveling north on highway 1 looking for a motel close enough to the ocean to hear the waves. We stumbled upon the Lighthouse hotel. Part of the hotel is being renovated and from the street we weren't sure what the place might look like. Morgan at the front desk was so helpful and professional. She grinned when I told her I wanted to hear the ocean from my room. Turns out our room opened up to a glorious view and load surf sounds. Breakfast in the on site restaurant was amazing with incredible views. All in all this place will be a highlight of our trip. read more

My husband and I stayed here in early September. I don't know why people complain about the layout being confusing, it seemed pretty normal to me. The hotel is literally on the beach. Parking is under the hotel and depending on where you park, you could get some ocean spray on your vehicle. The hotel staff was very nice and helpful. There were warm cookies in the lobby when we arrived. The rooms are pretty average. We had an ocean view which was almost directly across from the outdoor pool as well. There were bathrobes in the room and the normal amenities. It had a VERY small "balcony" but a great view of the ocean and was very clean. If I remember right, the TV was pretty outdated but it wasn't horrible. I liked that there was a beach access door pretty close to our room. The main dining room/restaurant was being renovated when we were there so it was closed. They did have a continental breakfast available which had your normal bagels, toast, waffles, hard boiled eggs, juice, cereal, etc. They kept it pretty well stocked. The hotel is a great find in a great location. The rooms are comfortable and clean. The beach is close and it only took 20-30 minutes to get downtown in SF and to the stadium. Ate locally which was better than hotel restaurant, even the café behind the hotel is a good little burger joint with shakes. We enjoyed the hotel because the price was good, the service was good, the location was awesome and we had a great time. Not much better than that I guess?? read more
