This is a gem and love the fact they are dog friendly. We stay here offer but this was first time staying with our fur baby Dino. Plenty of open areas for dogs to have potty breaks and plenty of dogs to have social time. The room was clean and the staff were exceptional. Love the fact breakfast is included with your stay as it allows for a nice relaxing morning on property. We will definitely be back soon!

I spoke with Blanca yesterday as she reached out regarding our negative experience last Sunday in staying at HMB Lodge. She was extremely professional and apologetic as she personally checked our room and didn't experience ants or toxic smell so I'm assuming just a weird situation. Bottom line, I appreciate the follow up so no future guest(s) experience this. The problem has been resolved and I look forward to our next stay!

Staying here at the moment for only 1 night but it feels kinda sketch. The hotel is right behind the chapel off of highway 1. I got lost trying to find the main entrance as I was driving after sunset. I was going round and round in circles bc of the lack of street lightning. We booked a king bed for $150 and the room feels like any typical hotel room. But there are definitely some spots that can be updated like the windows and bathtub. As part of my hotel inspection (as I've seen other people do online when first checking into a room) is to check all the closets and behind the curtains in case someone else is in the room before me and I found someone's pair of clothes underneath my bed... The following morning, I had breakfast at the fireside room that overlooks the pool area and it is very cozy, the furniture and tables are arranged very nicely. The food options are pretty standard. Some eggs, sausage, fruit, bagels, and oatmeal. However, I guess if you are not a morning person then don't book here bc there was a worker banging on EVERY guest door at 8am. I was like "is someone's suitcase being dragged across the ground but noooooooo, someone is literally aggressively knocking at people's doors". Not sure what they were looking for and if this was for only today or it is just a regular occurrence here that I don't know.

Came here for Sunday evening stay. My kids loved the fire pit for s'mores and the hot tub. The complimentary breakfast with board games for children was much appreciated. I wish there was a water fountain or station though...the only one was in the breakfast room and it was empty. Overall good stay, I'd go back.

We stayed here for the weekend to celebrate our anniversary, Great little property with really amazing outdoor amenities. Year round heated pool (which was amazing) plus the hot tub, exterior fire pits, sauna , etc. They have a very nice continental breakfast but it's nicer than a continental as described. Rooms are very nicely appointed and large in size. Our rooms heating system was inferior (wall heaters very confusing) and should be upgraded. Our rooms bathroom was outdated but clean. Please immediately stop using one ply toilet paper. This is simply not acceptable. Would definitely come back again!

We stayed here for 1 night. I was initially worried due to some of the reviews on here, but it was way better than I expected. The lobby was very cute and the ladies were very helpful with everything. The room was much bigger and nicer than I expected. We got room 239, which was a Deluxe King with a fireplace and there was a balcony, I'd recommended this room. The reason I took 1 star off was because there was a weird tapping noise throughout the night and we couldn't quite figure out what it was, but I still managed to fall asleep. The bed was super comfortable and the fireplace added a nice ambiance. Overall, I would recommend if you're looking for a place to stay for the night in HMB!

Ask the Community - Half Moon Bay Lodge

We have an upcoming stay. I am physically disabled. Just wondering if the place has elevators to the second floor?

Hi Sheryl, Unfortunately, there are no elevators to the second floor at the Half Moon Bay Lodge, but accommodations are gladly made by the friendly staff to offer you a first…

    Is this place dog friendly?

Hi Joy Yes, I am happy to report that our canine and feline friends are welcome at the Half Moon Bay Lodge. Hint: Book a Room at the lower level with easy access to the garden…

How far is it to the beach from this lodge?

The state beach areas are 10 minutes away by car. If you feel athletically inclined, there are free e-bikes available for guests to explore the area. Check with the friendly staff at the front desk for availability.

Do all rooms include a microwave?

No. We are in a room with just a fridge.

    Is smoking allowed on property?

The Half Moon Bay Lodge and surrounding area ( Premises ) are a smoke free establishment.

What would be the best room to request if staying with kids?

Thank you for your inquiry. In most cases a either a traditional room with 2 queen beds or one of our suites will be the best options for families bringing kids. Feel free to call us any time at 800-710-0778 for assistance with your booking.

Does this hotel have a hot tub?

Yes, it does. While technically not a hot tub, this property DOES have a large jacuzzi with hot water.

Location wise, short walk to the putting area and club house. The only drawback is it's a 2-story and no elevator. Good old fashion stairs with 2 landings before you reach the top. I watched a guest struggle, carrying HEAVY looking luggages to the second floor. My complimentary glass water bottle fell out of my purse and crash landed on the foyer floor as soon as we entered our room and I had to quickly use towels to sweep the shards and water before I can admire our space. I'm glad there was an abundance of towels as oppose to other hotels where it's an exact set on occupancy. Staff was attentive to get it cleaned up as well as provide an iron and board. They only offer steamer in the room. Our room is well appointed with nice calming colors. Loved how our room had a balcony. Not all upper units have one. A couple of inconveniences: the person below us had their music loud with bass during the day and then again during the evening around 10pm. I didn't call, as I was tempted to but only if it continued. They finally stopped at a decent time. The second was a first floor guest smoking weed. Some permeated through our window because I dropped my spoon on the floor (we ordered room service). It was verified when I opened the balcony door real quick to make sure it's what I smelled. We also experienced some odd protocols after we had a nice lunch at Mullin's (clubhouse). We thought it would be nice to have dessert at the outdoor ocean terrace area. We walked the grounds and asked if we can have a seat with shade. One staff went to check, however once I mentioned we were looking at getting dessert, the hostess turned it around and said for us sit at the bar or seating area beside the hostess stand. What was left were seats in the sun, plus in the seating area folks were sitting here and there. We wanted a table, which I did see there were some closer to the greens. I felt that as an overnight guest, it wouldn't matter dessert or meal, I'm a paying guest, not a visitor. So we left and went to check out The Conservatory. I checked in with the host and mentioned we'd like to have dessert (I was asked if any allergies) and was asked if we'd like the traditional seating area which would be a wait. We waited and got a table in the center. We got the menu and asked for the dessert menu. We were told not in that area, but the next one over. We were confused. I even saw the fake display dessert where we sat. And after all that waiting, we succumbed and just ordered food. Even with these oddities, we still had a great time. Staff provided excellent service. From check-in (Justin), adjusting keys for late check out (Stephen) to staff at Mullin's (we are there again before we left the property), golf staff, room service, to the front greeters at valet. The bag pipe performance, as he walked down the pathway was beautiful. The property views, just amazing!!!! We'd love to come back next year. The Ocean House would be the next spot.

Just be aware that overnight valet parking is $70 before taxes and gratuity. Check-in was a bit underwhelming. There were four front desk agents, but no one acknowledged us while we waited in line, and the process felt slower than expected. We were offered a glass of champagne during check-in, which was a nice touch, but the front desk agent didn't explain any of the resort amenities or what was included with the resort fee. We later noticed complimentary bikes available in front of the hotel, which would have been fun to use had we known about them. Our room was beautiful and located on the fifth floor with a lovely view overlooking the golf course. It was peaceful, comfortable, and definitely one of the highlights of our stay. Unfortunately, the in-room dining was disappointing. We ordered the linguine with clams, salmon with vegetables, two bowls of clam chowder, and two scoops of vanilla ice cream. The salmon portion was very small and lacked flavor. The clam chowder was overly salty and had very little flavor beyond the salt, making it difficult to finish. The linguine had only a handful of clams, and the noodles were also overly salty. Even the ice cream arrived partially melted because there wasn't enough ice to keep it cold. Overall, the food was just average, which is about what I'd expect from typical hotel room service. Despite the disappointing dining experience, we still enjoyed our stay. The property itself is beautiful, the room was excellent, and the staff we interacted with outside of check-in were friendly. I would absolutely return, but next time I'd skip the in-room dining and instead order Door Dash or dine at one of the many great restaurants in Half Moon Bay, where you'll likely find better food and better value. IMO

This typically isn't an issue because half Moon Bay runs cooler and comfortable temperatures for most of the year but my husband and I do prefer a colder room at night time so we slept with the door open. There was no ceiling fan, but they do have a couple of portable fans stored in the closets for use. Shower in our room had low water pressure, so not great for those with longhair. The hotel is right next-door to Sam's chowder House so easy walk. Beach access-there is a beautiful walking path right downstairs, which you can access from the hotel. The only thing between the walking path and the ocean is some rocks. I was told by a local that the water directly in front of the hotel is not swimmable but there is beach access with some water about 5 minute walk down the path. The path is smooth so easy for strollers, bikes or other means.

The front of house staff were very nice and welcoming and answered all our questions. Now on to the less desirable part of our experience..... As we decided at the end night to grab a cocktail to take back to the room, this is where it went bad! To provide the full picture, there were 3 ppl at the bar, enjoying their drinks. One table in the far back that a server was helping. I asked for a mojito only to be greeted with, "ya that's not gonna happen! We don't make those here!" A simple, "I'm so sorry unfortunately we do not have the ingredients to make those here as we have a limited ingredient list." Would have been appropriate. A smart mouth comment does not elude customer service. If you don't like to work in the industry, find a new job!! Our drinks were subpar, and a lesson in customer service could go a long way. I would start with the basics. Even simply asking my husband if he would like to upgrade his spirit in his cocktail vs just quickly pouring and slamming a drink down. I strongly recommend your team reading "Unreasonable Hospitality!" It may make you think about how you made a lasting impression. For me it made me feel like I never want to come back. And, yes, I work in the hospitality industry so this was unacceptable! Do better! This is how one bad experience can make the lasting impression! UPDATE 7/29 I want to call out the Hotel Manager, Cecilio Reyes, for his "Unreasonable Hospitality"! He called me immediately to better understand the feedback that was provided. He went out of his way to pick up the phone and listen to what I had to say. This means more to me than a $10 drink at the bar. This in fact it shows that they truly about doing the right thing to ensure they keep a customer. You have no idea how this small act sends a message to your guests. I hope your leadership sees this to see how you truly elude unreasonable hospitality and ensuring that your customers return. My issue was not for anything other than. ensuring that others learn from the impact it could have on someone. Thank you, Cecilio Reyes, for your professionalism and attention to this situation that is now taken as a learning opportunity. I will be sure to ask for you the next time I book directly with your hotel!

My husband had just passed away and we needed a little getaway. This was the perfect destination that soothed our souls. The Seals are within walking distance to view! The ocean is literally within steps of this cozy, beautiful inn. Hiking trails all around within walking distance! They let us use comfy bikes everyday which we took advantage of and biked to Half Moon Bay and a few ocean view restaurants. This is a beautiful and clean Bed and Breakfast! We had a gorgeous view of the English Garden from our spacious room. The daily breakfast included fresh berries, egg and cheese, fresh croissant and granola! The unlimited European lattes added a nice touch! We felt so spoiled with the homemade cookies in the afternoon and the free wine tasting in the evening around five. The entire staff was so friendly, helpful and made us feel right at home. My daughter and I look forward to returning! Absolutely a hidden gem!

This is a classics inn located in the moss beach area …read more It has seals visiting the beach by the inn from time to time , some season you can see the pups with the seals . I love the cozy ambience of the inn . You can sit by the fireplace and listen to the sound of the waves and sip a cup of coffee . The beds are comfortable and service is great ! The outside of the inn have that vintage look that goes well with the giant redwood trees . Lovely place to stay .
