Mill Rose Inn is located right in the heart of the downtown shopping and dining area. We entered and upon arrival were given a brief tour of the guest areas inside and outside sitting areas. We even got some fresh baked warm cookies! The room had that old turn of the century charm. There was a bedroom and a separate room with the fireplace a small table and a couch with a pullout bed. The bathroom was updated and had a large two person whirlpool bath. We walked to a great Mediterranean restaurant and down to the bay. The next morning we were given pancakes and sausage with a mixed fruit cup. It was a good value for the stay. read more

Stayed here for one weekday night. I was able to checkin right around 3pm. I booked the room directly on the site, it was the cheapest one (not sure if smallest), but it was nice. Baroque Rose (Suite 2). It had a fridge, microwave, bathrobes, a heater and a TV. The bed was very comfy. The heater was one for a few hours and heated up the room real quick. I had to turn it off to sleep since I sleep at 68F. The living spaces are super nice with 2 main areas with fireplace, wine, brandy and some other brown liquor. I tried the brandy and red wine, both great. There is also coffee, tea, cookies, fruits and plenty of water. It was stocked! It's located in a central area in Half Moon Bay with free unlimited parking out front. I parked my car and explored HMB. Complimentary breakfast is at a local bakery and you have a limited menu option. I chose the eggs bfast. Doesn't come with bacon so u had to pay extra for it ($7 for a side of bacon is wild!) My bed was right next to the door to the room which is located in the main areas of the house so was scared that I'd be woken up by people I outside the room. Either I was the only one there or they made no noise or sound is well insulated, I have no idea. The only human I saw at any point is the host. The main con was that the wifi was extremely spotty, that was quite annoying. I made great use of the room and truly enjoyed staying here. For everything you get, highly recommended. read more

This was my first time staying here and the place is cute and very close to the shops. Upon arrival there was no one available for check in as advertised on the website and the front door. I also called the phone number on the website and the front door has posted to which no one answered. Thank goodness for a housekeeper and groundskeeper that called the owner (Sandra) to ask what is going on since several families were standing outside to check in. After 2 hours they did an over the phone check in. I spoke with the owner to express my disappointment and she told me if I don't like it I can go somewhere else then proceeded to hang up on me. I noticed in the common area there was a phone with an answering machine and I see there is 49 calls with messages that has not been answered. After checking the reviews more extensively I'm seeing this is not uncommon at this establishment, as it has happened before. I definitely will not return and I highly recommend other more accommodating hotels in the area. I will say the staff was incredible under the circumstances but didn't appear to be surprised at the time of the incident. read more

For the money, this was not worth the stay at all. I thought I'd splurge compared to our usual hotel visits for my husband's birthday and chose here. It seemed promising when we arrived. It was especially cold that night when we arrived. We were greeted by a very kind hostess and the event planner. We were given a tour of the common areas, told we could help ourselves to wine, sherry, brandy, the well stocked coffee/tea bar, fresh fruit, and fresh pastries. There was also bottled water available plus more in our room. They'd also turned the heater on in our room before we arrived so it would warm up. That was much appreciated. The bathroom was so bad. The shower is tiny. The walls have so much mildew on them. And the shower head is horrible. My husband even commented that the outdoor showers at most pools are nicer than this one. The room also only had a wall heater with no timer built into the bathroom wall, and a small plug in space heater, also with no timer, in the bedroom. So it was hard to control the temperature of the room. The cafe that they partner with was fine for breakfast. But the breakfast options included are super limited and a lot of the other options are much more appealing. It's a bare bones sort of breakfast compared to the rest of the offerings. But it was at least tasty. We thought we'd spend a relaxing weekend walking around the area and mostly relaxing at the inn. It was so cold Saturday. So after exploring for a bit we thought we'd come back and watch some movies. It was so loud though. I think there is a bar or something nearby. There was super loud music playing until after 10pm and it definitely didn't seem to be from here. The internet was also terrible, which made it hard to watch our movies and the cable options were limited. If this was a cheaper place, it would have been ok. But for the money, not at all. If I'm paying this much per night, I expect luxury. Not budget motel quality. read more

However, I was charged an absurd amount for one night, and despite reaching out multiple times, the hotel has done nothing to resolve the issue. Hotels are supposed to assist customers when overcharged, but I was only redirected elsewhere and received no real help. Customer service needs significant improvement. read more

If you're looking for a fairy themed birthday weekend, look no further! This beautiful property is covered in floral blooms, including a gazebo and fountain. The interior of the shared common space is vintage, and I loved the free red/white wine offerings along with the freshly baked cookies. The free breakfast at Moonside Bakery was a short walk away, and they fill you up! Our room was straight out of a fairy tale book and it came with umbrellas since the weather can drastically change within a day! There's lots of parking spaces available, and we enjoyed walking around exploring the shops on Main Street. Highly recommend and we're already planning to come back! read more

Good: Hostess very nice as was tour and the Renaissance Suite. King size bed most comfort and could have provided a good sleep well into the morning hours. The guest areas are wonderful and we enjoyed the wine and sherry. The Bad: Arriving and getting settled in, we kept hearing a high pitched beeping sound and soon discovered a number of Caterpillar heavy equipment movers creating a new road. Fortunately, they ended their daly a little after 5:00 pm on a Monday. 6:30 AM we were jarred awake by the sounds of the garbage truck working the circuit with as much intolerable noise as possible. We got up and prepared to go to breakfast at 8:00 am. After returning from breakfast we planned on reading, taking a nap and going to the beach. However, once again our hearing was assaulted by the loud beeping which continued until about 4:00 pm. Wednesday morning 6:30 AM, once again the crash, bang, screech of the garbage truck continued for another interminable amount of time. Bad: B&B vacationers are familiar with a lavish breakfast. This is definitely NOT the case. A single cup of coffee, a plate of eggs/potatoes, or Belgium waffles, or French Toast, or pancakes, or oat meal is NOT lavish in any possible way. Now I fully understand the Mill Rose Inn cannot be responsible for building, road maintenance. However an email could have been sent to upcoming guests that this noise is going on and ear plugs might help. The garbage collection schedule easily can be addressed simply by contacting the company and requesting a later pick up time. FINALLY, the breakfast definitely rates a 1 and needs an overhaul. I hope the time I've spent writing this will save others frustration. I do not feel that I received the level of value as I was led to believe. read more

This place was such a disappointment. We booked the room with the jacuzzi just so we could enjoy a relaxing getaway as newlyweds but it didn't even work. The jacuzzi was so loud that you couldn't hear one another. We couldn't turn it off and when we called for assistance the lady on the phone just told us to push the button. We'll, the button didn't work. Couldn't shut it off and water got every where in the bathroom. We had to call a few time just to get someone to assist us in turning it off. The hotel has some charm but it misses the mark in multiple areas. They advertise things that aren't true. The room did not have a sofa bed as shown, one of the TVs did not work, the garden area was not as amazing as the photos show and breakfast is a hoax. The breakfast was nonexistent. When we woke up and went downstairs around 9 AM I couldn't find any signs of the breakfast or staff. We proceeded to load up our car and about an hour later I still hadn't seen any staff. About 5 minutes before we left I ran into cleaning staff but they had no idea about breakfast or staff for checking out. The room itself was decent and clean but you could tell they used some cheap options on certain things. The carpet had a staple or nail poking up in one area. It wasn't fully pushed through the carpet but it hurt to step on and left a scratch on our daughter's foot. The staff when we checked in was nice and helpful but that was they only real interaction we had with them. read more

We decided to stay here for our 21st wedding anniversary. We love bed and breakfasts. This place was a disappointment. This lovely place is beautiful. The outdoor gardens with lots of seating is the perfect place to enjoy a complimentary glass of wine or brandy. The lovely clean house itself is just steps away from main street. The rooms were clean. However, that is where the good stops. We stayed here thinking it was a bed and breakfast. It's not. It is just a bed. However they have wine, brandy, tea, coffee and fruit. Upon checking in you will receive a voucher to get a pre-selected breakfast from a local bakery which you will need to walk or drive to (it is very close). Also the room we stayed in had the smallest shower I have ever seen. I am 5'2" and very slim and I could barley bend over in the shower. When we arrived we walked around for a little bit before a woman with a handful of envelopes approached us, asked us our names, gave us the envelope and let us know there was no breakfast and how to use the codes to open our door. That was the last we saw of her. We saw no staff for the rest of our stay. read more

Mill Rose Inn is a whimsical romantic getaway in the heart of Half Moon Bay close to glorious beach walks and other coastal trails in the area. We arrived on a Friday afternoon and were welcomed by Eve, who we soon learned bakes delicious cookies and cakes set out on a sideboard for an afternoon, evening, or late-night treat. We were shown around the place by Terry shortly after. He explained everything clearly and kindly, pointing out all the quirks and operations of our room and the inn we needed to know, from how to book the jacuzzi, find a good movie to watch, work the gas fireplace and where to go for a meal. Not a moment later, we were drinking champagne in our room with the gas fire going, chatting and enjoying our view across to Montara Mountain on a sunny winter's afternoon. It set the tone for a beautiful weekend together. Our room was warm, cozy, and large enough to hang out in, with luxurious towels, a great shower, and a comfortable bed with plenty of cushions and quality linen to boot. We booked the Romance Package, which included a meal voucher for any restaurant in Half Moon Bay, and we look forward to staying at Mill Rose Inn again for a weekend soon. Eve and Terry have thought of everything to make sure guests enjoy their stay at the inn, and there's certainly a lot of soul put into this place. Great inn in Half Moon Bay. Arrived to be greeted by Sandra the inn owner I believe. She showed us around. There are tons of sitting areas to enjoy, complimentary coffee, tea and snacks. Showed us to our room. This place is so nice. The grounds are kept beautiful and so much to see. Flowers everywhere, seating all around with little lights, settings for relaxing and so much comfort. The room we stayed in was in the main in and was amazing. From the crisp white sheets and pillow to the beautiful shams and blankets.. loads of pillow and blankets for a boatload of comfort.. the bed was amazing also, so comfy we actually slept inn.. we will be back! read more

My husband and I stayed here for our baby moon and had a wonderful time! Not sure if the inn has changed ownership recently (?) but it seemed the original owners may no longer be there. Our host was welcoming and gave us a tour of the grounds and our room. We stayed in the burgundy rose room and the room was clean, quiet and very elegant! Plenty of space for two and the fireplace and ceiling fan, shades, windows kept the room comfy. The bed was also incredibly soft and plush. We also enjoyed being able to sign up for the private tropical jacuzzi. The grounds felt secure and safe. Breakfast was not served on the property but a voucher was given to use for the society cafe down the street. We brought back to the garden and ate in the gazebo which was nice. Overall a very pleasant stay, the Inn had plenty of parking in front and was walking distance to the Main Street area for restaurants and shops - short drive to the beaches too. My husband and I just spent 3 nights here. We opted for a family owned small property instead of a large modern hotel. We are glad we did. Mill Rose Inn is a historic home property with only a few rooms. The place has really nice touches like brandy and sherry in the room and complimentary beer and wine in the fridge. The host will prepare a fine little fruit and cheese plate upon request, which held us over after arriving and before going out for dinner. The dining room has a fireplace, complimentary tea and coffee, and sweet homemade cookies and cake all day long. They serve a nice 2 course breakfast daily either in the room or in the dining room by arrangement. We stayed in the Baroque Rose room right off the lobby, which was surprisingly quiet. The decore was very baroque with patterns and fabrics like an old French movie. Nice queen bed, mattress med soft and good quality linens. Room was small but adequate. The bathroom was larger w a stall shower. Host Terry has an impressive collection of hundreds of DVDs to chose a movie. I think it is a hobby of his. The gardens are pretty elaborate, even in winter. Very English country. We arranged a couples massage on the property with 2 skilled therapeutic masseuses. The Inn is 2 blocks from Old Half Moon Bay Main St so we could walk to everything; cafes, restaurants, gift shopping. The beach is about a mile due west. Host has good suggestions and recommendations for anything you need to know. We were really happy with our stay. read more

I wanted to take my boyfriend to a really romantic and beautiful B & B and boy did I find it! I looked at the Mill Rose Inn website and found "Specials", a 15% off same day as you check in discount. I called and spoke with Terry, the Innkeeper/owner who made the reservation process easy and seamless. When we arrived Terry informed us that he had upgraded us to the Bordeaux Rose Suite. We found our queen bed to be very comfortable and the fine linens so soft and lush. There were brandy and sherry in both our room and the parlor.The sitting room had a fireplace, private access and we chose the option of having our delicious breakfast each morning served there. What a treat! The bathroom, has a large Italian marble shower, a jetted tub for 2 and the beautiful stained glass window treatment was breathtaking. Freshly baked cookies and slices of bundt cake were both readily available. Terry also made a yummy fresh fruit plate for us in the evenings! The gardens were spectacular! Seeing is believing. Lush flowers abound everywhere. They also have a spa in the backyard that is enclosed and very private. Once you sign up for your time, the spa is yours exclusively. There is much more I can say about how much I loved this place but you must experience it yourself! read more

I specifically reserved a room with a jacuzzi tub. When I arrived they tried to give me a different room, without a jacuzzi tub. They didn't even mention that the room I had reserved was not available. If I hadn't have spoken up for myself, they would have given me the room I didn't want and didn't reserve and acted like nothing was wrong. They could have called me. They could have emailed me. I got no heads-up that they were going to try to switcheroo on me until I showed up and complained. I packed my bags and got babysitters and drove there for nothing. They could have told me they messed up before I spent all that time and energy and changed my plans around. Instead they tried to trick me. Just awful. Be on your guard. read more

I've stayed at Mill Rose Inn four times now and just realized (while about to book my fifth trip) that I haven't reviewed them yet. This is my go-to romantic weekend spot when I want to stay within an hour of San Francisco. I've stayed in four of the six rooms and they were all great, but my favorite is the Renaissance Rose Suite for the fireplace & separate sitting room. The whole place is gorgeous, with custom William Morris art nouveau wallpaper everywhere, fireplaces in most of the rooms, and flowers in every possible place. The dining room is beautiful and there's tea and cake 24/7 for late night nibbles. The best feature of Mill Rose Inn is the hot tub gazebo- guests can reserve it for private use every day of their stay. There's nothing better than a hot tub surrounded by a lush plants and twinkle lights. Terry is incredibly nice and helpful, with lots of great suggestions for restaurants and things to see and do. They've got a big beautiful photo book of weddings and events they've hosted, so if you're looking for a venue, they seem like a great choice. Amazingly, we've had very good luck with short-notice reservations. It always pays to plan ahead, of course, but Terry is super accommodating for short-notice phone reservations. We once booked late in the evening for same-night arrival (after bailing on a hotel that was, ahem, not as advertised), and Terry checked us in around 9pm with a fully made up room and a warm welcome, because he's the absolute best! Mill Rose Inn is worth every penny- this is old-school hospitality with tons of amenities, a lovely chef-prepared breakfast, complimentary tipples, the best hot tub in the world, handwritten welcome cards, and heaps more thoughtful touches. Compared to the nickle-and-dime experiences I'm used to at equally nice hotels, Mill Rose Inn is a revelation. read more

It was just a horrible experience, We reserved Room#1 Jacuzzi room, We never got the jacuzzi to work and the tub was filthy. Spider webs on wall, remote was so sticky and sweaty, Just gross,the atmosphere- just felt dirty. The fence next door by the side door entrance looked like it was going to collapse. The backyard of the hotel was nice, nothing impressive. They do have free wine and E&J in the lobby. No breakfast on site they give you a voucher to get breakfast a few blocks away, that was an inconvenience because It took us an extra hour just to get breakfast. They had construction work across the road so we got woken up both days at 7am after that there was no way to go back to sleep, they were making noise all morning. The second night we couldn't even park up front because PG&E started working right in front of the room all day. There was a lot of construction going on everywhere, couldn't relax at all. Paying a 1000$ for 2 nights was a bit high for my experience, I guess we paid mostly for the location and been able to walk 5 mins to some restaurants and 20 mins to the beach. I got back from Sandra a very unprofessional email after writing this review. My wife and I have been coming here for 15 years. Prior to 3 months ago, we would have rated it 5 stars. The previous owner, Terry, was a wonderful B&B owner. After 40 years of running the place (!) he recently sold it to new owners and thankfully gets a well-deserved retirement. As Terry ran the place, it was 5 stars. With the new owners, they have thankfully left 90% of the charm of the place exactly as is. The rooms are really comfortable and quaint. The gardens are stunning. And they've updated a few very small things like side lamps or side tables. It's what they have taken away that bumps this down to 3 stars. -We arrived and there was no one to greet us. Just a voicemail left on our phone. -The stunning outdoor hot tub is out of commission for the foreseeable future. This was not posted on the website and a big part of why we stay here. -The homemade cookies and cakes of years past are gone. -They leave less snacks/drinks than was previous left. -There is no fresh cooked breakfast. They give you a gift certificate to have you go outside, walk several blocks, order your food, and eat it there or bring it back. I'm sorry, but this is seriously lame. Yes, it's free but when you go to a B&B, the second B is for breakfast either served in a communal area or in your room (as was previously done wonderfully by Terry). -All the beautiful orchids that were scattered in the house are gone. This is just a lot of things taken away from the original experience with nothing added to take it's place. Maybe there are great plans to make it better but I'm dubious. My advice to the new owners: bring back cooked breakfast, fix the hot tub, and don't lose the original charm of the place that Terry took 40 years to cultivate. read more

Begging for a remodel and achievement of its potential! Just stayed 2 nights at this conveniently located Inn in the heart of Half Moon Bay. To say we were underwhelmed and disappointed is an understatement. We read all the great reviews from other patrons and had high hopes. Instead, these are our observations: First the positive: Great location, super quiet, comfortable bed, nice and clean room, beautiful garden Now for the negative: Property lacks all the charm of a BNB. There was no one to welcome us, assist us during our stay, nor say goodbye upon checkout. It lacks any hominess you would regularly receive from other properties of its kind...no fresh baked cookies, no complimentary wine and cheese hour, no breakfast! What? That is entirely unacceptable, though the property does give you a certificate for a less than average coffee/bakery in town. That is not what a BNB is all about! The grounds although lovely, lack any comfortable seating to enjoy a book in the afternoons or drink the complimentary water they provide. Some comfy outdoor furniture would surely enhance the experience amongst the flowers. This is the absolute Jewel of Half Moon Bay. Book Now. Seriously. We just returned from a getaway at the Mill Rose Inn and.... it's Fabulous. Awesome. Amazing... I could go on. It's located 500ft from the shops, but you'd never know it. The grounds are incredibly well kept with a Cottage Garden feel. The decor is....tranquil with a Cottage feel to it. It's Just So Relaxing! Featuring a greenhouse style building full of more flowers and plants and.... a spa (!!!) giving it a wonderful "woodland" feel. This is situated in the rear garden and courtyard which is surrounded by flowers and ferns and trees and more flowers. Best still, you book the hot tub so you know it's just you. Funnnnnn ! We stayed in the Bordeaux Rose Suite and it's everything and more. Private entrance. Private path to the rear garden. Super-easy parking. This is a wonderful, wonderful location with an owner that goes far-past "the last mile" to make things work. I know you are looking for a place to stay and well, we just found ours. We went for our anniversary and it was amazing. We only wished we stayed another day or two. The hosts were so charming and polite they made us feel right at home from the start. The room was spectacular and the bed was extremely comfortable. The private hot tub in the gazebo was the best. Even though we didn't go around the place much because of Covid it dos not matter to us we were thrilled with feeling like it was just the two of us the entire time. read more

Dirty carpet, disintegrated drapes, shower liner in tub too long and not sanitary, fridg had fingerprints smeared around door openings, no listing of instructions for heater/fireplace/tv's, etc whatsoeve. My cousins home is 1/2 mile away, which is why I was visiting, I actually informed her to not recommend this Inn if she plans to have guests visit her town. read more
