Rooms should be renovated because they are very worn and dilapidated now. Walls are cracked; there is visible water damage on ceilings. Multiple outlets are not functional. Hair dryer was removed from the wall so there's just an empty metal mounting plate by the bathroom light switch. WiFi is not reliable or strong enough (especially in our room), and unfortunately the cellular signal was weak too so it made it impossible to check emails or make calls. Enjoyed my 2 night/3 day getaway at this hotel. The staff were all kind to me and welcoming. I saw them working so hard and helping guests with warmth and professionalism from the front desk to house-keeping. The location was perfect for me bc I was looking for a place very near the beach. I was able to walk across the street with my beach chair anytime, but it was especially great to sit and watch the spectacular sunset (& with a free cup of hot chocolate from the hotel lobby!). I also loved the walking/hiking trail along the coast. Rockaway is only a mile away. The hotel pool area was great, I used the shower area to wash off the sand from the beach. I also used the jacuzzi as a soaking hot tub, since the jets didn't work. I didn't care bc I just needed to soak my sore legs and feet after hiking. The bathroom sink was slow draining, so sometimes filled up a little if water was running- it kept me mindful to conserve water. The shower had good water pressure. The room was perfect for me as a solo traveler. I saw couples and families there as well. I loved the Peruvian restaurant at the base of the hotel, esp the empanadas and chicha morada drink. The price of this hotel was very good, and much more affordable than others along the coast. I look forward to returning, as this is now my go to in Pacifica. read more

BLACK MOLD. Save yourself the trouble and don't book here. Booking.com has this hotel rated much higher and it's so wrong. We weren't in our room 15 minutes when I started noticing mold everywhere. Our lamp was broken and the handle on our dresser falling off. The bed was old and creaky, we immediately went down to the office to ask for a refund. Destiny said we needed to call booking.com to cancel and they'd confirm the cancellation with them. We parked and called and our representative put us on hold when they tried to call the hotel and no one responded even though we saw someone at the desk. The top tier customer service sets this place apart! We arrived late (I'm guessing the last guests of the evening) and we ended up with a room that, let me see, how should I put it, well, it was suboptimal (bedspread and headboard were visibly old and located on the other side of construction so we could take the elevator to the third floor). We spoke to the front desk who was extremely apologetic and understanding. The next day we spoke to the front desk who had been given all the details by the night manager, so we didn't have to tell our story all over again, and asked us our preferences -- she moved us into an amazing room with both a big jetted bathtub and an incredible view. Long story short even longer -- we were so comfortable that we stayed an extra night. Very happy we chose the Pacifica Beach Hotel (not to mention the restaurant was the best South American food we've ever had). Will definitely stay here again when back in Pacifica. read more

Frustrated.. My fiancé had dreamed of staying at this hotel for many years, and she finally booked it. There were many idyllic fantasies of our second night of vacation. Our first was spent in Tahoe, right on the beach. This one needed to meet a high bar. Before we even bring in our things, she's having issues with the WiFi. She tries the TV and it has Bluetooth technology but won't connect to WiFi so you can't access any features or streaming services. She tried the jacuzzi bath, and it fills quickly but doesn't reach a good temperature. She says the bed is too hard. She's having a really hard time and the staff is very unhelpful. She did this for me, and is heartbroken things aren't perfect. I think the goal of hospitality is perfection, and this does not make the cut. read more

Front desk person was sweet. Lots of issues with the computer, and it was more expensive than the online rate so she said to book it online and she would honor that price. If you are a person who is expecting luxury or has expectations about a hotel experience being super relaxing or having a fabulous ambience, this is not your place. But if you're okay with a comfortable place to crash for a night at the last minute that's more of a motel 6 style, this place will be great. They are in the process of remodeling and our room was clean. But it's not polished by any means. Our mirror was falling off the hinge, there was no screen door. The water was lukewarm. There was a nice heater in the bathroom. Everything felt very clean. No bathtub. Our room had a microwave and a refrigerator. Wow, the reviews on this place are awful. But I'm not surprised! This place needs renovations badly. The view is nice because of the location and it's nice that it's next to a restaurant but the rooms look pretty bad inside. Lots of quick fixes just to make something look better instead of fixing it properly, mold around the corners of the bathroom and by the Jacuzzi, and the worst part were the extreme bright lights outside shining into the room while trying to sleep! It was the brightest hotel I've ever slept at. Definitely needs improvements. Feels like you're staying in an overpriced Motel 6 room. I almost gave one star. So I was kind on this one ;) read more

If I could leave a zero I would. My family stayed here for two nights, just as others have said I should have looked at the reviews. DO NOT STAY HERE! Let me count the ways that this has been the worst hotel experience I have ever had: (I will start with the order in which I experienced the disappointment) - Parking was very difficult, getting into the tight spaces when the hotel is crowded was stressful (and I have a small vehicle), barely able to fit around the posts between spots. - The room had ripped drapes, the curtains were falling off the track and the guide or handle to open the curtains was broken off. - Drawer pulls on the dresser were missing - Carpet had large holes where the carpet met the tile -Tiles around the in room jacuzzi had large chunks missing/if you stepped on it was sharp and exposed -House keeping never came to clean our room or give us fresh linen...nothing...not even a sign that they cleaned their rooms. I used to be a housekeeper at a large hotel chain, I never once saw a cart down a hallway that made it seem like the rooms were taken care of. -OUR CEILING WAS LEAKING! Leaking in 3 places and dripping on the bed we were sleeping in...it started leaking at midnight and woke me up because of the sound because it was right next to my head. Not only was this obviously not a new occurrence, there was evidence of repair in several locations of the ceiling and mold in those spots. -The cost of the room 200+ a night you would expect a great experience...especially with the false advertising on their website, the room we stayed in looked nothing like the images on the website and the experience promised was not delivered. - Worst of all we asked to be moved on the first night and were told nothing was available...we didn't move hotels because we had arrived late in the day and had a flight to catch in another day and thought ok...we will stick it out, but little did we know the next night our ceiling would start leaking. When I went down at midnight to let the front desk know the ceiling was leaking they told me sometimes that happens with a heavy fog! WHAT! EXCUSE ME! We made several attempts in person and via their website to speak to management and get a refund or some sort of acknowledgment of an apology, NO RESPONSE from anyone after 14 days of our initial complaint. - I have called and tried again to communicate with management and still no response. WORST EXPERIENCE EVER. Update: After I posted multiple 1 star reviews on various websites for this hotel, management finally called me back and issued a full refund. But not before telling me my email messages that I sent through their website to attempt to get a hold of them went to their spam folder. Ok, not sure how it is my fault that the link you have for customers or a future customer to communicate with you on your own website doesn't work. They also mentioned that not all the rooms are this way...ok again, how does this matter to me as I experienced the room I got and it was disappointing. They seemed to have an excuse for everything. Ok, this place does suck. My fault for not looking at any reviews prior to booking. 1) yes, it does look like they are doing renovations. On the out side. You know what they say about lipstick on a pig. 2) Do NOT stay on a lower floor room. Not only will you hear absolutely every noise above you, it actually sounds like the floor might cave in. 3) Don't look very closely at anything, in fact, if you keep your eyes shut, it all looks ok. But just ok. 4) No ice machines. You have to go to the front desk to get a tiny bag of ice. My guess, you room rates should cover getting ice machines repaired. 5) Every single thing about this place SCREAMS Motel. Except the room rate. Room 1205- Newly remodeled The room looks exactly as picture in on their website. New flooring, furniture, bathroom, bedding, fireplace, sliding door, paint, fridge, micro wand, bar sink, coffee pot, hot water kettle and tv. The room has no smell. You'll be delighted with the newness. The gas fireplace is a nice touch. It also has a wall ac/heater unit. You have a partial ocean view. A sliver of ocean, the pool, and other rooms. The ocean view was a pleasant surprise. You can see people on the beach and the waves. Negatives- these aren't deal breakers. I highly recommend this room and I'd request it. The towels are old and one had a hole. There is a stain on the curtains, the tv doesn't work. I talked to the front desk and many people have reported that the tv won't turn on. They probably aren't paired with the remote. Due to construction the parking is limited. There is street parking that you may need on Saturday. Friday there was plenty of parking. They are installing an elevator so till then there is no elevator. This room is on street level when you walk in, due to its on a hill you are actually on the 2nd floor. When you walk out to your balcony you are on the 2nd floor so you are safe to keep your slider open. Close to the parking lot. Room 212 is also newly remodeled but smells like chlorine or something. It's also on the first floor. We did try to air it out, but you are unsure if you should leave the window open when you leave as it's on the first floor. I don't recommend this room as much. The floors are laminate. Perfect for a beach hotel and all the sand. Easy to clean. What a great place to stay. You are a across the street from the beach and you can hear the crashing waves from your room. Kenny's Cafe is .2 miles away. A 5 min walk or drive. They have a private lot and they have great Chinese food. You're .5 miles from a shopping center with: Safeway, Starbucks, Ross, and several restaurants. We called to make the reservation a while ago (for myself, husband, and daughters) and specifically asked for a full ocean view. They explained it would cost more and I agreed because my kids love the view. When we arrived, the room had their hotel building blocking half of our view (photo attached) so I had asked if there was a room with the view we paid for that we could move into. They said, "tomorrow". We agreed. Totally fine just a little bummed. But, excited we get to move into what we were paying for. The next day, we were told to go to a room where someone was still staying in. I walked in on a man in bed. It was so awkward. They moved us to a different room. The view was AMAZING. Myself and daughter were so excited. I laid my two year old down in the bed for a nap and my other daughter noticed something crawling on her. It was a FREAKING BED BUG! I went downstairs and let them know the situation. The lady working the front desk was horrified when I showed her the photo of the bed bugs. After seeing the photo she called the manager, who told her.. "they can go. I'll refund her!" Not only did they not refund me for the night (that I paid too much for!) we had spent there. But, I asked if they had a space to store our things while we figured out where to stay (they were literally not willing to find us an extra room. They said they had none then I watched them "upgrade" the next two people checking in). Which she said no. I asked to talk to the manager and when she was called and told I wanted to speak with her she said, "I already left. I'm not working anymore!" I am literally appalled with how things were handled. The manager Tina, is an actual joke. If you hate your job, quit... don't take it out on people. This hotel left me in an impossible situation. With my children and no where to stay. I didn't hear sorry one time. They said they are under new management and oh man does this place suck worse than ever. I used to love this hotel and I will tell everyone I know how disgusting it is. The Pacific Beach Hotel is located in a beautiful area with a water view, but it's evident that the building needs significant repairs and maintenance. The elevator was out of order, and the visible wear and tear made the building appear to have been constructed in the 1970s or 1980s. The service staff was friendly, but they felt they needed to be more welcome, and the location was remarkable. However, the hotel needs repairs and a lot of tender loving care (TLC). The caulking around the bathtub was haphazardly done, and the faucets needed to be fixed. The room was less clean than we would have liked, with carelessly placed linens in the bathroom. We even found dirt on our blanket and hair on some towels. The walls were old and in need of a fresh coat of paint. I tried to talk to the housekeeper lady in the hallway, but she didn't speak English. We went to the store to purchase Lyson for the room to spray. The bed was extremely comfortable on the plus side, and my boyfriend and I enjoyed it. We love the jacuzzi inside the bedroom. We didn't like to have the preferred occupants in room 1309, who played loud music all night and created a lot of noise. My boyfriend had to leave the room at 2 am and ask them to quiet down because people were trying to sleep. Overall, this place is a 3, and I have no plans to return. read more

I threw away my money on this third rate hotel. Basically this is a Motel 6 disguised as a top notch hotel. In pictures only! The rooms were dirty, paint on curtains, towels had holes, the bathrooms were moldy, the tiny pool was cold and the children were freezing, no towels in the pool area. Asking for towels in your room or at the pool was like asking for something beyond their means. We shared our concerns to the front desk and they had an "excuse" for everything. Thought we were reserving a resort room but upon arrival at the Pacifica Beach Hotel we determined we were paying resort prices for a budget hotel room. Where to start, the unplugged holes for electrical outlets in the headboard, ceiling cracks, blackout curtains that were full of holes, the broken coffee maker, the stained sitting chair, a heater that takes a Mechanical Engineering Degree to operate, or the TV that only had LG Channels that were blurry due to poor internet. You would expect a resort hotel to have quality bed linens and comforter not a sheet for the bed cover and a thin blanket. You would expect hot water not lukewarm water in the shower. The only positive thing I can report is that the Jacuzzi tub worked fine. When we mentioned some of our concerns to staff upon arrival on Saturday, we were told the hotel was being restored. Which of course we knew by the electric nail hammers and load construction music, which the hotel said would stop by 6 pm, making it impossible to take an afternoon nap before the event we were attending that evening in the Hotel's Restaurant. Be careful using the covered parking, appears some of the overhead exposed pipes maybe leaking. Wish YELP had negative ratings. read more

My first time staying here and it was amazing I was greeted by Tina who was so sweet and helpful. Customer service is absolutely how it should be everywhere. A couple days prior to a 3 day long wknd/MLK wknd, I decided to book a random overnight stay at Pacifica Beach Hotel since it was like 20 mins away from home and was looking for a hot tub Jacuzzi in the room and PBH was the only one I could find. It was a breeze booking via Expedia. I even received a text reminder from Akia the morning of check-in and she assured me she was only a text away had I needed her for questions or the sort. Check-in was 3 p.m. but didn't arrive at the location till 9 p.m. We were assigned room 1210, King bed with partial ocean view. Getting to the back parking lot was easy. From the outside you could tell the infrastructure of the building was old, but under remodeling. We checked out today at 11 a.m. The entire experience was short-lived and I would come back again and give this hotel another shot. Livia was the only one at the front desk last night, but she was courteous and that was enough to ensure our stay was going to be a fun and safe one---thank you! It was quiet when we got to our room and was impressed by the modern amenities; the bed, cabinets, mini fridge, coffee maker and flat screen tv . Was also delighted the blow dryer inside the bathroom had a nightlight! We were on the second floor and the balcony had partial view of the beach and you could still hear the waves crashing even though there was a small bush directly in front of our balcony. Anyway, the jacuzzi was immaculate with functioning jets! Just run the jets first to clean it out as I found a ball of hair that came out of the pipes, but this was no biggie. We were quiet and in bed to finish a movie that ended at 130 a.m. Free channels on a flat screen tv! On the downside, the person or persons upstairs were either high on cocaine or had mental issues; they were loud during our entire stay and I honestly didn't think they slept at all as I had a restless slumber, kept up with their footsteps, frequently dropping items on the floor at 3 a.m. or turning on their jacuzzi at 130 a.m. and again at 230 a.m. I finally woke up to more heavy footsteps pacing back and forth above our ceiling around 830 a.m. this morning and heard new noises like the dragging of their luggage across the floor. Their presence never went away until we checked out at 11 a.m. My only other observation of this room was the small mold and moth in the ceiling above the shower. Yuck! The blankets were thin and there was no heater or AC in the room. It seemed like an inch thick duvet cover and then the linen sheets. The shower ceiling and the rude guest/guests upstairs take away the star I wanted to give this hotel a perfect rating. read more

I've had two family members stay here in the last month. Both reported that it was very noisy and one called front desk and had to deal with a very aggressive night clerk. They left the hotel in the middle of the night. It was not only extremely noisy but there was a strange odor coming in to the room and the security doors were propped open. The other family was quoted one rate but when they checked in they were told it was actually $200 less. They were happy with that but then when they checked out they were actually charged the higher amount. Also the hotel has a security charge of $100 each day. What??? Other hotels may take a credit card for amenities but they don't charge you a service charge in advance. OH BOY we are GOING to stay here again! We attended a wedding in Monterey on a Thursday, and knew we would feel in rough shape the next day. Rather than drive back to SFO and fly across the world the very next day, we opted to find a relaxing and comfortable place to spend the next day as close to SFO airport as possible. And with Pacifica Beach Hotel, we got it! We found ourselves in a spacious room with a comfortable bed, a balcony overlooking a gorgeous beach, a huge television, a surprisingly large mini-fridge and a jacuzzi in the middle of the floor big enough to accommodate both me and my wife. We relaxed in the jacuzzi while watching the television, thanking our lucky stars that we weren't currently on a half-day-long flight, then we went to bed and woke up refreshed the next day, a short 15-minute-drive away from the airport. My only complaints were: - Little bit of paint missing from the wall in the hotel (but really, who cares?!) - The air conditioning unit was really loud, and there was no way to keep the fan off. This meant that it kept turning on/off throughout the night, and when it would do so the change in sound would wake me up. But I instantly fell back asleep because the bed was so comfy! - There was no screen on the balcony door, or we could have just left the door open and slept in the cool breeze instead of running the AC. Really, though, those last few points were nitpicky. It was AN AMAZING STAY. What surprised me the most, I think, was how incredibly friendly every person was that we interacted with who worked at this hotel. It also unfortunately smelled like cigarette smoke and weed in the hallway and was coming into the room, there was a huge gap under the door which was odd to the main hallway. Stayed here for a few days in the interim of us moving... keys constantly disconnect, I have a video of roaches going across the floor, I should have read the reviews prior to booking... sent an inquiry to management about the roaches and requesting a refund as this is very unfortunate and distributing seeing on my last night of four days here... We have stayed at the Pacifica Beach Hotel twice now. The first time was last year in March and then again recently last week when our power was out. The location is spectacular, amazing views and walking distance to the beach. There is ample parking and I love that you can pretty much pull right up to your room and not travel far with your luggage. Our kiddos really enjoy the pool, it's indoors and surrounded by glass - so you can get really nice views of the ocean while swimming. There are no lounge chairs near the pool or on the patio outside, but maybe this summer? Off-peak hotel pricing make this place an affordable place to get away that my family enjoys. read more

There was a mildew-like smell in the carpet, which I assume is from the in-room Jacuzzi--probably from water getting on the rug over time. The fridge also had a strong odor, even though it looked clean inside. The real issue happened at checkout. We asked for a late checkout and were told there would be a charge after 12 PM, which we were fine with. We were getting ready to leave around 12:45 when, unexpectedly, the staff called the police to have us escorted out. This was completely unnecessary and disturbing, especially since we had communicated clearly and were willing to pay the late checkout fee. The police didn't do much--they simply told us we needed to leave. They left shortly after, and we finished getting ready and checked out without any further incident. The entire situation felt excessive and honestly left me questioning whether bias may have played a role--possibly related to our race or orientation. I can't say for sure, but the whole experience felt off and deeply uncomfortable. It's unfortunate, because the hotel itself is nice. This place is very old and it is falling apart. There are lots of rusty nails that are sticking out of the carpet, and it hurts when it is accidentally stepped on. read more
