On 6/5 & 6/6 had my 2004 Honda Element serviced by Lifetime Automotive Tempe AZ. Lifetime Automotive is a sole proprietor owned & by automotive tech Alex Burton. My brake fluid was low & diagnostic done & Master brake cylinder needed replaced. Also, needed some other maintenance done. So replaced engine coolant thermostat, rear suspension shocks& struts & sparks plugs . Written estimate of all automotive services to be done given before any automotive service rendered. The estimate was very reasonable & in line with industry standards & pricing. All above work completed to my satisfaction. On 6/6 my air conditioning compressor went out , which the car is 22 yrs old. Again lifetime replaced air conditioning compressor at excellent price. I had good experiences up until I stopped interacting with the owner. whenever I would speak with the owner, he would give me his honest opinions and let me know the price before confirming. I've had interactions with a new guy that took over my repairs and I will not be back. I don't feel like i've received the same level of service, care or pricing. Also when I was curious why I was being charged over $200 for changing my headlight (spent $1000 in a span of two weeks, and i wasn't expecting that price so i was just looking for a breakdown), I was asking for clarification and was met with a rude tone and no answers. I have been searching for years for a dependable and knowledgable independent Subaru Mechanic for my 2016 Outback and I finally found one. Originally getting serviced as a local Chandler Suburu Dealership, I got fed up with exhorbinate service prices which was more expensive than my previous Southern California Dealerships. Chandler ($604 for spark plugs), California ($499 for spark plugs). Then another local independent European vehicle mechanic recommended Lifetime Automotive for Japaneses vehicles. Its a good 20+ miles from my house but Alex, the owner and chief mechanic put me right at ease with his Subaru experience and his ethics as a mechanic. Pricing is still not cheap but is much less, at least for certain jobs I have had done, than the dealerships, in one case 50% less. It seams like fair pricing for quality work. Alex is a super cool guy who again is honest, wont do unnecessary work but does make recommendations, and is on time with his repair time estimates so you can still plan your day. My car is an older model - in an effort to sustain its optimal mobility I sought out LIFETIME AUTOMOTIVE and learned that my car has life in it, yet. Alex (the owner) told me that he works with customers to build a plan of action; "scheduled routine maintenance and repairs that will keep your vehicle running at optimum performance." The shop, itself, is vibrant in color and extremely neat in appearance -- though the personalities working in the bays are much neater. L.A. Mechanics are passionate about maintenance and repair. Some of the best things in life come in small packages. Lifetime isn't a huge company, but they are quality! The owner Mike is such a nice guy and his small crew is extremely knowledgable and talented. They have kept our Bimmer in tip top shape! This is one mechanic I can trust. Mike never seems to pull the wool over your eyes, he's very honest and will always tell you how much a service will cost before performing it. Taking the extra step earns my business... I took my truck down so I could pass emissions at 7:30am. I had an evap leak I couldn't get sorted out. They fogged it, fixed it, and had it ready for me to pick up at noon so I could take it down and get emissions done on my lunch, all for less than another shop quoted me. That's the regular service. When I got to emissions, the guy broke my bracket for the OBD-II. Wouldn't test the car. I took it back to Lifetime to have Alex fix it if he could. Not only did they fix it for me, they also took it down to emissions for me, got it passed, and didn't charge more than the emissions test cost. $4,600 down the tube! Worst experience ever! Do not trust Alex the owner of Lifetime Automotive at first he's super happy and caring and as soon as you need warranty work done he gets defensive and won't answer calls voicemails or internet communication (have recordings as proof). Took in my 2001 F250 that had a spark plug issue that can be solved with a permanent insert #24200 for Ford triton engines. Truck had a 254,000 so decided to get engine rebuilt told Alex about spark plug flying out 3 times before and wanted permanent insert. Said that he will talk to machine shop that he's been using for years to get permanent fix. Got truck back drove fine for 250 mile then started to misfire. Called Alex and he got defensive that nothing he did could cause a misfire and wouldn't pay for a tow. Told him I would pay for repair and tow if he found it no to be part of rebuild or install. Told me no. Told him I spent a lot of money for this engine. Alex then told me these words " $4,600 MIGHT BE A LOT OF MONEY FOR YOU BUT I LOST MONEY ON THIS JOB" after that comment I couldn't trust Lifetime Automotive to do an honest diagnosis. Had a friend that's a head mechanic at Yates GMC to hook it up to a computer with live read outs. Told me bank 2 running lean. Got home and found Helicoil temp insert all the way up on the spark plug threads burned to a crisp. Took it to Alex and he put the same exact $2 insert back in my engine. After he threatened to void warranty because I took out the spark plug to check why it was misfire. There is a lot more to this story that I will post to the BBB. BUT BASICALLY $4,600 AND I CAN'T DRIVE MY SON TO HIS BASEBALL GAMES WITHOUT WORRYING IF THE SPARK PLUG WILL FLY OUT ON A 0 MILE REBUILT ENGINE. Alex refuses to give me invoices of of work done to put insert back. Says he's not obligated to give me any paperwork. I'm in the process of taking them to court with all my evidence. Our daughters' HVAC was not working in her Honda Civic. It was previously diagnosed. Bad Blower Motor Resistor. We informed the staff at Lifetime Automotive. We asked them to confirm, order the part, and do the work. One of the mechanics informed us they tested the HVAC Blower Motor and that too was bad. We received the estimate for the work. $182.35 for the HVAC Blower Motor Resistor, labor included, and $272.67 for the HVAC Blower Motor, labor included. We also asked for an estimate to replace the Rear Passenger Door Power Motor and Regulator Assembly. $260.32. In total, $715.34 plus taxes. We went home...located the existing HVAC Blower Motor, removed it and tested it. Since it's DC very easy to test. HVAC Blower Motor worked FINE! I was upset and saddened. So upset that I changed the parts myself. Blower Motor no change required! Resistor took 5 minutes to change! The Window Regulator did take 1.0-1.5 hours. We spent $122.62 plus tax in parts, saved $592.72 plus tax and the disappointment of being taken advantage of. Like FOX NEWS....we report....you decide. read more
