I brought my 2001 Ford ranger xlt to get my transmission fixed. It has a 1+2 hard shift. The owner was very unprofessional. He had a mix of defensiveness , liability avoidance , and not a real diagnosis. He test drove my truck hard to avoid reproducing the problem, he asked me 3 times if I'm a mechanic and if I can work on transmissions, he was trying to size up liability risk. He handled it poorly. My transmission has a hard1+2 shift handles under normal /light throttle . He should've driven the way I described and knowledged the symptom right away. Instead he tried to dismiss it under heavy throttle (bad test method) then backed out once he knew I've been working on it. My truck drives fine on highway speeds, has no slipping, no burnt fluid or metal, issue is isolated to shift timing/pressure. That strongly supports valve body/hydraulic issue, not a full transmission failure. Bottom line he handled it poorly. I wasn't asking for a rebuild, just a diagnosis . Felt like they didn't want to deal with anything that required real trouble shooting. read more

Called at 9 AM on a Saturday and Isaac was able to get me in within 10 minutes. Got the part and had everything repaired by noon. I got quoted for about $300 more at a different auto shop so I was extremely excited to see a way cheaper more reasonable price. I will be coming back for all future repairs on my jeep. My 2020 gmc Yukon ended up dead on the side of the road and it was a transmission issue after looking around and getting some recommendations I ended up at tri city! I've been coming to Tri-City for about 2 years and have been absolutely impressed by the customer service and quality of their work. My vehicle has only needed oil changes multi-point inspections this far. The cost is not cheap, but the value is far better than the quick lube joints and better than the dealership. The owner is involved and the rest of the staff are all super friendly honest & you know they are not going to try to up sell you on things you don't need. 11 out of 10 would recommend to friends and family. However, the person talked about all kind of service, It was hard to get the answer to my question on transmission fluid, filter, and the gasket replaced on Escalade. After being informed that my tires were at end of life with only 19k miles I called Tri-City and asked if they would evaluate them even though they don't do tires. I spoke to Joey who said he'd be glad to look at them. He was most helpful and determined that there is more life in the tires and what to look for when they need to be replaced. To start the diagnostic fee should be credited towards the repairs - scumbags add this as extra. The owner is the worst kind of mechanic, bait and switch with costs and repairs. No deposit to get started but as soon as they got in there the cost doubled and need to order parts. When I said I would just tow it out of there and grab all the parts myself. He threatened and said we had to pay the full cost just to get the vehicle. He told my wife I lied to her about the cost he quoted to work on vehicel and would not release it to us. I was looking to get a rebuild done, but since i had done a DIY valve body swap (obviously did not fix my problem), i was refused. Honestly, a remanufactured valve body swap is so straight forward, I am literally in shock. I asked about doing a used swap, or even a remanufactured trans install, but the answer was still the same. "We are not interested in working on your car." What is even less desirable is the fact I had to repeatedly follow up to get this answer. 2 full business days and 3 calls to get refused. Repairs were $700 something for throttle body, but couldn't promise that was the only problem and it would be five days. Hubby looked around. Found another shop to do repairs for under 500. Called to pick up car next morning, a Friday. Shop said can't pick up until noon because of tools in car and paperwork? Second shop needed it first thing to fix by the weekend. Terrible workmanship. Terrible customer service. I took my truck to Tri City Transmission in March of 2023. My transmission was shot. I researched this business and found nothing but positive reviews. I set it up, took my truck in and was given a loaner vehicle, a Chevy truck, to use while mine was being rebuilt. I got a call from tri City informing me that my motor mounts and tranny mount were shot and the additional cost would be $1500.00, which I thought was excessive and questioned the cost. The response was that these mounts were not like the old days, I approved the mounts replacement. I picked up my truck and all seemed well, the price was correct no performance issues, so I was fine with the repairs. I am old school, so 2 years and 14k miles later I feel it`s time for a service on the tranny. I've done this hundreds of times during my career as a technician, no big deal, but a bit of a pain containing the fluid as the pan must be removed and there`s no drain plug so it`s easy to make a mess. I discovered that 2 OF THE PAN BOLTS WERE STRIPPED !!!!!!!!! Whoever reassembled the pan onto the tranny case CARELESSLY CROSSTHREADED 2 BOTLS !!!!!!!!!!!! I was furious. No professional would EVER BE SO CARELESS. I installed a new filter and reinstalled the pan, and put in new fluid, half expecting to have a leak. Fortunately there was no leak. I had to cool down so I waited to call Tri City transmission. I eventually talked to the owner, Dave and arranged a time to drop of my truck and leave it there to be repaired the following day. I had to reschedule and call Tri city, spoke to Joey and reset for the following Monday afternoon drop off, that was yesterday. The person behind the counter knew about my issue, but when he said we will update you tomorrow at 5:30 I said "NO, NO UPDATE AT 5;30, I need my truck back tomorrow. I am not leaving my truck here indefinitely." The person i was speaking with did not respond to my statement. Keep in mind here that this repair should take no more than 3 hours MAXIMUM. I called Tri City at around 2:30 today to check on my status, again spoke to Joey who couldn`t tell me anything. My suspicion was that nothing had been done to repair this careless damage by a Tri city employee. About 30 minutes later I got a call from the owner and was told my truck is not repaired. I told Dave I wanted my truck road ready and that I would be there shortly to get it. When I arrived the owner tried to make this episode my fault ? Sometimes things don`t go as planned he says. Well, I explicitly told your employee that I needed my truck back today. Dave now says he wasn`t informed of that. An argument ensued and I was quite angry over the attitude of this ahole. I demanded my keys , but Dave didn`t give them up. He was trying to convince me to give him another chance which I refused. And now he is willing to give me a loaner vehicle, which he originally refused to do." I gave you a whole day and arranged this deal in advance. You failed, I have no more time for you," and again demanded my keys. I could have earned some money today, and not spent money on ubers. So I`m out probably $160-$200 and still have 2 cross threaded bolts. Bottom line, I believe that this is not an isolated incident as the owner claims. In fact I now see another customer had similar issues about the same timeframe, and it was obvious that Tri City tried to conceal the poor workmanship as per the review by Stephen L 2/8/23. NO PROFESSIONAL CROSSTHREADS BOLTS, NOT EVER !!!!!! if you choose Tri City transmission, I would advise you to check the repair soon after you get the vehicle back, that way you will have some legal recourse, don`t trust that it`s done professionally. read more

Took it to tri city and they found out too much oil was put into my car and were able to fix this, and I haven't had any more problems! read more

He said he has NO clue what a 4 speed transmission would cost for a 2011 Chevy. I was wasting his time because they wouldn't quote anything over the phone. Called in about the transmission in my 2001 Ford Crown Victoria slipping and then went in for a test drive. Dave the owner of the shop drove the car around the block. Dave then gave me a tour of the shop and ran me through a few possible issues and some fixes I could do before bringing the car back for a diagnostic. Dave informed me that I might have low fluid symptom and advised me to add 2 additional quarts of ATF than what the car requires to see if it made any changes. I went home and did this and the slipping is barely noticeable now. I will soon be taking the car back into the shop to address the root cause of the issue and get the car back to running 100%. So happy to find this repair shop! Less than a year ago we bought a used car for our kid and within the year we had transmission problems. The car would not drive above 40 and it was a mess. Wr took it to a general automotive shop in our area and they told us we needed an entirely new transmission. This meant junking the car since the repair was going to be more expensive than the value of the car itself. The car was otherwise in good condition, with low miles. We believed we had a sensor issue that was correctable. Thankfully we got the car to the transmission specialists at Tri-City! Their techs were so helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable! After two levels of diagnostics, they were able to diagnose the problem and proposed a targeted repair well below the price quoted at the other shop. We would definitely use them again! THE BEST PLACE. Here's the scoop. I have 2004 Toyota Highlander that started being weird one day. Through a series of events we were told that we needed a new transmission. All the places I called, the dealerships, etc. were wanting to charge me and arm and a leg, or flat out refused to even do it. Fast forward a year later of the car sitting, and I asked a good friend (who owns a shop) who referred me to Tri-City Transmission. These guys are THOROUGH. From the very start with intake process over the phone, it was clear they knew their stuff! I told them I was in no rush when I had it towed over there. It had already been sitting for a year and truly was dreading getting the news that this was going to be +$8k OR I'd have to get a new car. They kept me updated every step of the way- amazing communication. They completed their inspection and GUESS WHAT. It was NOT the transmission. It was a little computer called the "PCM/Powertrain Control Module" that had gone bad, WHICH will make it look like transmission issues, when it really isn't. They said it was more rare, to the point that they had to make their case (send diagnostic reports, etc.) to Toyota when trying to order the part to prove this was actually what was needed. They also did a million checks and test drives after the part was installed to make sure it was running well. Not only were they top tier thorough throughout the whole process, but they were the absolute nicest. They explained everything to me so kindly and in a way I could understand. It was really refreshing to have a place actually care instead of taking advantage in a situation where they totally could've. PS it wasn't even close to $8k, fairly priced all the way around. Took my Escalade to Tri City Transmission to fix a transfer case leak. I had to take it back three times and they still did not fix it. They had my truck nearly a month. Their owner, Dave Riccio, has a smart mouth. I decided to void my warranty and take my truck to TGK Automotive in Chandler to repair. I called to have my transmission serviced, oil changed and filter replaced and that I would bring my own fluid which is far superior to ome fluid that I have been using for 150,000 miles pulling trailers with my F-150 that now has 165,000 and operating perfectly, well he told that he would not service my truck because they only use ome parts which is fine but anyone with transmission experience knows that ome clutch packs, fluid and other basic parts are not quality parts they do this for cost cutting and making a healthy profit when you buy from them. I had Tri-City replace a seal on my 06 Titan's transfer case in January 2020. It started to leak and they made the necessary repairs and all was good at the time. Last week we went on a trip to Colorado and when we returned, the next morning there was a good size gear oil leak from the transfer case. took it to AAA auto shop and informed me that there where stripped theads for a bolt on the bottom of the pan. Instead of eating their error they, the tech, filled the hole with RTV gasket sealer and is costing me a new bottom pan and labor for $1000.00 and change. Took my car into this shop three days ago, just got it back yesterday. Overall, I would say nothing above average. Didn't feel like they were personable with me or my car. Just felt like they wanted my money. I guess that's what running a business is like! Inside of the auto body shop it looked well kept. What I needed to fix my car were break pads and rotors and along with a shifting problem. $900 for break pads, rotors, 4 new spark plugs and a coil. Brought it in without any lights on the dash board and left with my battery light on. Guy on phone just kept saying " cars break all the time, a car is a car " Which yes, I can understand that. But I didn't feel like he was explain properly what my car needed. I'm used to going into a auto body as a female and them trying to upsell. So I try to make sure to ask questions before giving the go to fix anything. This place just added to that list. Ended up taking my car somewhere else, and was told I had been most likely ripped off. What's done is done, most likely wouldn't take my car here again. Yet, the other reviews were good so I think it was just my experience. I don't know! Extremely expensive, for what? For quality of work? For customer service? NO and NO. Not worth the money the owner charges. I had to return my car from work they did. Only 27, 000 miles on rebuild and transmission took a dump. I was told I would receive a call on a particular day and didn't receive it until 2 days after that. I got bad news, transmission was out gonna be 3 weeks. It didn't take that long to completely rebuild the first time, put me on the back burner, i guess, I paid already. I was extremely frustrated. But accepted and let him know to get it done. Owner said he would call me on a certain date. It did not happen. I called the next week after he said he would call and he was not available. I was told he was busy, second time, WE ARE ALL BUSY. Second time he's drop the ball, more frustration. He calls the next day and never apologizes for not calling but tells my the calls are tentative and courtesy only. Wth......ok, then don't tell the customer your going to call on a date, duh. He tells me it's going to be another week. I said ok. He calls me the next week, more bad news. They broke the shifter cable, can't find it and the dealer doesn't have it, found on ebay, be another week. Ok i said. Then he begins to tell me how he doesn't appreciate my frustration and how not nice I am to him. I told him that wasn't it. Isn't that business???? Some happy some not? I asked him if he was trying to get me into a argument and he said no. I just don't appreciate you being mad he said. I said, just get me my car. He said with a cherry on top and hung up. REALLY?...... He calls me back the next week telling me its done. He tells me that he paid for the cable (tells me how much it cost) and he did a service (tells me how much that cost) and changes a boot underneath(tells me how much that cost), Not sure why he did extra but I guess he felt like he needed to or wouldn't have done it. I go down to pick up, he explains the work then i ask is there any warranty work for the work that was done and he says, NO, MAYBE IF YOU WERE NICER WE WOULD HAVE. WE CAN BE FLEXIBLE OR INFLEXIBLE. The owner is the most arrogant, self centered and nonchalant person i have ever come in contact with, at any business. His video on his website will make you feel warm and fuzzy inside but don't kid yourself, he is NOT that guy. If you have a problem he will be someone else i promise you. I understand that car trouble can be an emotional and stressful predicament. Any of us who have had to use Tri City Transmission are probably spending money we don't want to spend. We probably have trouble with our vehicles, and we just need a reliable fix, as cheap as possible. My wife and I went to Tri-City transmission last week. We dropped off our car and left town. We were up in the mountains and not available by phone. Tri City reached out to us many times, and never left one of those irritated messages, so we would rush to get back with them. (Even though they were storing our car this whole time waiting for our response--lame of us, I know--they still treated us with respect. And didn't try to charge us storage fees or anything. In fact, they eventually waived the fee for their diagnostic, even though it was thorough, because they identified some damage that would need to be addressed, before the transmission repair. Most shops would just take our money (as one already has) and not even mention the other work that needed to be done that is in relation to a happy transmission. Anyway, after all this time they took with us, the week they had our car in storage, there decision to forgo a profit for the good of our car, and even I have to believe they do have a genuine interest in solving every transmission issue. They want everyone to have a reliable car. I was already convinced that we came to the right place based on the types of questions we were asked before we dropped off the car. Doubling down now. I even received a personal email later today from Dennis giving me some pointers and some information that will assist the body shop work that is likely unavoidable. Who does this? Who takes this kind of time? Who invests in this kind of detail? Tri-City, man. Dennis and Tri-City. Long story short , it took 3 phone calls and about 2 months for someone to come get my truck after calling for a tow. And I was told the repairs would be $500 and when I went to pick the truck up they wanted over $1,700.00. The work performed was new wheel bearings on the rear. Takes about 2 hours if you take your time and the parts are less than $200 They reminded me why I work on my own stuff. I won't be back. Response to Dave R. Two no shows because I called for a tow and nobody ever came to get the truck or even called me. I said I never authorized the repairs at $1,700+ , and I never would have , because I can do the repairs at home by myself for about $200. Worst place I've ever taken a vehicle. My transmission was having issues shifting, and after taking it to Tri City transmission and describing the issues, they had my vehicle for 5 entire days. They told me in a very condescending way that there was nothing wrong with my vehicle, and that maybe it's just showing age. Went as far as to say "you wouldn't get a knee replacement for a sprained knee." Two days later I got onto the free way to drive to work and my entire transmission went out. It sounded like metal popcorn and I couldn't even drive the vehicle. I ended up having to buy a brand new car and after 3 days of trying to call these people back, I've gotten no response. Dave at Tri-City Transmission was awesome and very helpful! They got my car into the shop right away for diagnostics and diagnosed it within the day. They didn't end up doing my repairs as it got covered under warranty by the dealership. However, they towed my car to the dealership for me and helped me facilitate getting my car fixed, they really took care of me. With Dave's help I was able to save $8,000 on repairing my transmission. I recommend this shop to everyone and I will definitely be back when I need them! Update: Dave asserts we wanted him to move our work ahead of other customers. While that might have been nice (for us) we never asked for that. All we asked for was an update. What we got was lectured for bothering him. We had to wait to bring our car into him by appointment. When leaving our vehicle with him we had to sign a document (a copy of which was not tendered) agreeing to the cost of diagnostics and that we'd be contacted with an estimate by 5:30pm the following day. That never happened. We did have a speculative conversation about what the repair and costs might be; but the fact remains after half a week of waiting, Dave turned us away for having the temerity to TWICE ask for an update. He never did the work he insisted we sign an agreement he would do: diagnose the problem within TWO days and tell us what the work was going to cost. Dave demonstrated little tolerance for polite customer interaction. There is no crime in that but his dithering was disrespectful of this customer's time. If you have time to spare and no need to know what to expect, then Dave is your guy. I'm even willing to bet he does good work (when he does work); but that is not the work ethic of a reliable professional; and who doesn't need reliable transportation? Fortunately in talking with our 4Runner buddies we found a shop just around the corner from Dave that got right after the problem. Within half an hour of pulling into this shop (and at no cost) we had a diagnoses and a plan. We should get the Vehicle back today and will leave a review for this shop as well. read more

They talked me into the less expensive repair for my vehicle (Chevy Colorado), because they had a similar problem with another one recently. Transmission is too hot the dashboard kept telling me. I checked with my regular mechanics and they suggested TriCity. Took the car in as they instructed at 8:30 in the morning and left knowing that they had told me they would be keeping it overnight and that they wouldn't be able to start looking until the afternoon the next day. The next day I didn't hear from them and I finally called around 3:30. They told me that they had advised me that they don't call anybody until 5:30. I scratched my head wondering if I had somehow not heard that. They did connect me to the mechanic who was working on my car. He advised me that he had found some odd wiring and asked me to check my records to see if I could find a previous transmission repair. That night I went through all of my receipts, reviewed them and organized everything. I brought the files in the next morning and dropped them off. I was told the mechanic was in a meeting so I wouldn't be able to speak to him. I didn't hear from anyone all day and I finally called at 2:00 in the afternoon. I was transferred to the mechanic and I asked him if he could give me an update on my car. He said that he had told me that he wouldn't get back to my car until after two more days. I thought to myself again that I wouldn't have called if he had told me that. Additionally, I had a vet appointment that I had waited over 2 weeks for so if he had told me that I would have immediately canceled the work. He was really rude, absolutely wouldn't consider that he made a mistake. I asked him to stop all further work and I would pick it up and pay for any work that had been done. He said fine and hung up the phone. I called back and spoke to the customer service gentleman at the front desk advising him that I was coming to get my car and that I did not want to deal with the mechanic to pay my bill. I picked up my car without any paperwork from them and they did not charge me for the 3 days they kept my car so I guess I should be glad for that. read more

The F#$%ing best Transmission shop ever. Quoted me $800 and it was $800.15. And they threw in a free wash. My Truck was throwing codes and going into "factory limp" mode. They were able to establish what the problem is because they have seen it all before. They even gave me a 12k mile 1 year warranty to back up their work. I will definitely be back in 30k miles for a service for my truck and recommend them to any friends are co-workers who are having transmission problems. Earl and Tom at the front desk are very helpful and will let you know how it is, regardless of your mechanical knowledge. ps I wish my beard was as epic as Tom's at the front desk. read more

Update: so we did get our car back and because the price was over their quote they gave us quite a bit of a discount. They also apologized for some miscommunication going on. A lot of staff were out due to various illnesses, etc. So overall we are glad we took it in. We will probably be going back. Kudos to owner Dave for his explanation of what was going on and why it had taken so long. Thank you for explaining. :) Next time we'd love to know up front though so we aren't left wondering what is going on. So we decided to try tri-state transmission per a referral from my father. I read all the great reviews and we decided to give them a try. We brought our car in on Monday evening, June 5 , 2017 as they were closing. It is now June 23, 2017 and they still have our car. Just shy of two weeks without a car! My husband has been having to take our family car to work so I have been without a car for almost two weeks with two children under 3. We tried to contact them yesterday to find out when it would be ready. They said they would call back but never did.. I called again this morning and have yet to hear back. Granted it has not yet been an hour but I am not very impressed at this point in time. Having someone's car for almost 2 weeks and not letting them know what is going on is not a good way to make a good first impression. I will update this review if my impression changes.... But right now I do not have any plans on returning... If we ever do end up getting our car back! read more
