    Power plates! New! Two!

I don't even know if Yelp allows you enough characters to express my love for this club. First of all, when COVID-19 hit Manhattan, NYHRC and LifeTime had already announced their merger/conversion. I had 30 days coming to me for referring a guest through NYHRC and then 8 days left on my prepaid membership . The 23rd St Lifetime didn't open until November and I moved to CA in December so those days were just hanging there (until I return to NYC). Lifetime has been the Equinox for the burbs and Middle America many years. The clubs are vast. Like Co-Op city if it were a luxury club with spa, massage, waxing, Pilates, yoga, spinning, weights, pool, steam, sauna, cardio.... This LifeTime is evidently a "boutique" but it is cavernously large to me. There is no pool at this location but it is absolutely beautiful and the steam room is half the size of my NYC apt. It's a bit heavy on eucalyptus and my eyes began to burn but I didn't care. The dry sauna is a wonderful pine and very hot. Huge locker room with decent shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and a particularly nice body lotion. They even have razors (no gym does that post-COVID) plus shaving lotion, q tips, and makeup wipes. Everyone is really nice and the whole club has large windows. It's bright and airy. Enormous cardio area. I didn't take note of the ellipticals or treadmills as I was just there to steam and sauna post-travel nightmare (Hertz rental disaster not yet resolved: I go tomorrow to see why they gave away a car for which I prepaid in June via Priceline). I really like the color scheme downstairs and the yoga room is nice. They have teak storage for shoes. Tons of foam rollers and other props. I have no idea what the place costs but when people out of NYC and LA complain about gym prices, it usually means just south of 200/month. In NYC, Eq Sports Club is 330 or so, and the regular membership 250. Whatever it is, it's worth it. My only suggestion would be to turn the music down in the locker room and the gym in general. People listen to their own music but even so, the booming bass is audible. The cafe looks wonderful and they have all kinds of spa services, CBD gummies and creams for sale. I will eat at the Lifecafe/juice bar tomorrow. Los Angeles will never have a luxury alternative to Equinox due to the square footage requirement (Equinox has already taken over the available spaces: i.e. Sepulveda). That's why LifeTime never came to NYC. When NYHRC decided to cede four clubs out of the 9, they moved in. But then the pandemic hit. LifeTime put 25 million dollars into four clubs. I don't know what's happening to the remaining four. Madison/50th shut for good. It will be interesting to see if LifeTime gets the market share of Equinox disaffected members. There was never a luxury alternative in the city and now there is. SO grateful. Training for Sharkfest Golden Gate and I can't weight train without steam/sauna for recovery. P.S. TWO BRAND NEW POWER PLATES! They cost between 10 and 14 grand. My club in SB used to have one (6 plus years ago). I almost cried when I saw TWO overlooking the 405 through the trees.

Healthy chicken enchiladas! From the cafe - YUM!

Life Time is an all-around A+ athletic club. From the management team to the trainers, from the teachers to the locker rooms, everything is stellar. The club is sparkling clean and you will see all team members, including managers, wiping down machines and pitching in to keep the club gleaming. The equipment is new and plentiful, and they offer classes in five different studios (Pilates, yoga, barre, cycling and fitness). Multiple classes daily to choose from, in addition to managing your own personal workouts. The trainers and teachers all offer quality instruction. Hats off especially to Melissa, Michelle, Kelly and Ryan. Not a member? You can drop in for a minimal fee to give the club a whirl. Don't miss this gem! PS - each locker room has its own steam room and dry sauna.

Couscous salad! Flavorful and filling. Best place for lunch at the Bravern!

This review is for the Lifecafe. Having worked at the Bravern for almost 10 years (since it opened in Sept 2009), I have been mainly having my lunches in the back room of my work. After finding this gem, I will be sending my guests down here for a nutritious lunch as well as sampling everything on their menu. Make sure to get your stamp card started so you can save after the 10th item in four categories. Jenny, who works in the cafe, is so personable and is a diamond in the cafe. Everyone here is great! They offer smoothies, salads, pizzas...all seem to be well received by the guests here. You can also pick up protein powders and snacks if you are looking to make smoothies at home or need something for the long ride home. Thanks for being a great neighbor!

My wife and I were previous members of the David Barton gym, which first occupied this space as a gym. David Barton was a bit more 'body builder' in that the focus was more on weight lifting. And pretentiousness. It's still too early to tell if Lifetime will be much different, but based on the opening night tonight (4/12) it could go either way. However, based on the friendly staff in the upgraded space it looks very promising. I can tell you that there are many significant upgrades that make this space much more inviting than David Barton. First, the entrance used to be shaped like a skateboard half-pipe which was all wasted space, but has been replaced with a much more functional café. And my wife keeps reminding me this is the place where you can order shakes through their app. I think that's a good thing, at least my wife is really excited about it. In terms of exercise equipment, all of their machines are new and are well organized throughout. Windows abound, and they all look out onto an open expanse that covers 405 South. It doesn't sound very interesting, but it's a great view of the entrance of downtown Bellevue. It's also much more open and airy than David Barton was, and looks much more inviting. Additionally, the staff is all very friendly and the locker rooms are also vastly improved. This is a hard feat given how great they were beforehand, but now include an upgraded sauna and steam room in both the men's and women's locker rooms. They also offer massages on premises, spin classes, and many other classes covering a wide spectrum of activities. My wife also tells me that this is cheaper per couple than Orange Theory which is down the street and occupies a much smaller footprint. The only advantage Orange Theory has over Lifetime is the easier parking which doesn't require validation. But other than that, Lifetime is vastly superior and much more upscale in every other way. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I'm kinda looking forward to working out here...

Ask the Community - Life Time

Do you have squash or pickle ball courts at this location?

    They don't

Is there a sauna at this facility?

    Yes!

Do they have a swimming pool?

    There is no swimming pool

How busy does the weight room get between 6-9 pm?

Honestly - not super busy. The club is a great size and not a lot of members/ not oversold.

Do they have weight machines and treadmills? We go to the Las Vegas Lifetime Fitness and it appears much, much larger and better equipped..

They have both. They are a Diamond Club if that helps.

Does this location have a kids center? Pool?

    No to both.

But the teacher, John, was awesome as he really went in-depth and explained the physiology, via a tailored response, to form questions. He then took us through a series of poses to make sure we understood his explanations. Throughout the session he monitored and adjusted or advised and also asked permission first. He also suggested and personally brought over, supportive devices such as an extra foam pad or bolster. What I also liked is that he only spoke when he had something to offer, and not endless "ego" chatter. I have been in some classes where the instructor just likes the sound of their voice and my brain goes numb. It is also really a "YOGA" class and not yoga on high speed, steroids in a boot camp setting, where everyone is outdoing the next person in their stamina, strength and flexibility. I am grateful to find a practice that is more introspective and calm as it used to be. YAY! =-D This studio has sufficient mats, pads, blocks, bolsters etc. Very inviting, clean and neat. Good day lighting. Wood flooring. Comfortable room temperature. I hate hot yoga classes! I do not believe in them! This was perfect! Also the staff was very friendly, calm and professional. I don't live in bellevue anymore and don't want to drive that far for relaxation but it really would be worth it. I have taken their begining yoga class twice now from two diferent teachers and have loved it both times. I felt relaxed durring the classes and quite energized afterwards. Their begining classes are a fabulous introduction to yoga for beginners and are reasonably priced. Their studio rooms are equipped with beautiful hardwood floors, matts, curtained space, calm lighting and suspension walls. That's actually what sold me on this place was the suspension walls. You only do it once or twice in begining yoga but actually suspending from a wall and doing asana's is amazing, it makes your entire body feel new after you are done and yes you feel good. The staff are quite friendly and more tehn willing to work with you, I had a schedule conflict with a class once and they allowed me to drop in on that class later on. I would definitely go back here if i wasn't poor right now and could find a good calming playlist for the car on the way there and back.

My friend and I decided to give it a shot at Club Pilates as they have a studio in Bellevue. For starters, we signed up for a free trial class ahead of time online. We were told that we need to bring grip socks, which is required, otherwise we'd have to pay for grip socks at the studio. In addition to grip socks, they also sell a lot of different apparel and accessories at the studio. The free trial class is not a full class. It's a preview of different movements that a class may conduct. You do get to use the reformer machine, which was interesting as this was a first for me. The class was half an hour and the instructor walks around and teaches you how to use the machine and goes over the different movements. My friend and I felt like since this wasn't a full class, we didn't get much of an experience of what to expect at a pilates class. Therefore, we mentioned this to the staff when they tried to sell us a membership after our free trial. So then they offered us to take a full class for free, which we scheduled a week later. The full class was not much different of an experience though. The instructor yelled out the different movements to do, but didn't demonstrate what they were, so we had to watch what others in the class were doing. Then when the class ended, we were surprised, as we didn't get much of a workout. This is the first time I participated in a fitness class and didn't sweat or needed to take off my outer layer. It was very low energy. Depending on what you're looking for, pilates may be for you. But it isn't for me, especially given how expensive it is. I found it to be boring and not challenging. I can see why this kind of workout may be good for those with injuries or who may want more of a stretch - and in that case, Club Pilates in Bellevue has a nice studio for just that. The studio is clean and has a parking lot outside of the building. Just note that there only a certain number of reformer machines, so classes do fill up quickly.

I took the intro class that was specially priced at $19. For an hour and a half, it was an incredible deal that I could not pass up...and it was more than worth it! There were about 18+ people in the class and we started with a warm up on the silks. Afterwards, we watched Mason and 2 other instructors demo on the rope, silks, and lyra respectively. We then learned a few things on the silks and did a quick stretch of the upper body. The verdict? The warmup is NOT a beginner warmup. There's lots of balancing of the upper body on the arms or forearms while the legs are held up by the silk apparatus. As the body is balancing, it is moving forwards, backwards, and twisting side to side. For me, the warmup was great and challenging, but I could see it being difficult for a beginner. Vivian was the instructor on the silks. I found her explanations and demonstrations thorough as I had previously learned one of the tricks at another studio but had not understood it fully until Vivian explained it another way. We were learning how to climb the silks and even though there was heavy emphasis on the use of the legs, I didn't hear any guidance about relieving any tightness in the forearms or the hands during the instruction. And in the cool down/stretching, there was no focus on these parts of the body at all. For the cool down, we paired up and all we did was twist the upper body while pulling on each others arms. Time was up but I wished that there would have been more time for more thorough stretching. Now I realize that there were a lot of people in the class and it was an intro class so I am probably calling out personal particulars, but I was really impressed with the overall vibe of the studio. I like their whole hybrid exercise modality idea. The instruction was awesome. The studio is a great space and I am especially looking forward to taking future classes in trapeze and lyra. Lastly, I find the pricing options a great value.
