Food was decent and drinks okay, we were enjoying our experience until the end of our meal when they didn't split the check for our party of 9. We sat there for 30 minutes waiting on the check, then splitting up the check amongst ourselves. However, the "owner" had a very unprofessional and combative attitude, and accused us of trying to stiff him on the bill. All we wanted was to pay our bill but they not only made that extremely difficult, but acted like we were trying to get out of paying instead of simply explaining things so we can solve the issue and leave. If we wanted to walk out on the check, we could have walked away in the 20 minutes we sat waiting for our (un-split) check to arrive. If you eat here in a large party, better bring your graphing calculator to save time when you have to divide up the gratuity and tax amongst yourselves, lest you be accused of a dine-and-dash. read more

Okay I hate to write a bad review because I did go when they were at their busiest. A very busy Friday evening. I told my bf we should try it out after one of my clients raved about the watermelon margarita. She made it sound like the holy grail of all margaritas. Too bad that was not the case. We arrived and were told it was a 2hr wait. But if we would like to wait we could wait out back and order drinks from the back bar and have chips and salsa. We decided that we could wait and did just that. When we walked to the back patio area the bar was filled with people trying to order. I looked at the very short list of drinks (I think there were maybe 5 drinks on there) and saw the margarita drink I had heard so much of. I told my bf to order the drinks while I looked for a place to sit. I walked back to the waiting area and it was packed so I waited off to the side. A waiter came over to the group of girls standing 3ft away and offered them water, chips and salsa. Totally ignored me. I figured since they had a place to stand and eat the salsa and chips it was okay he didn't offer me any. 25 mins later my bf finally came with our drinks and I had finally found a place for us to sit. It took me 4 sips to devour the water down margarita in the over packed with ice glass. In a matter of 4 mins I finished my drink. Def NOT WORTH $10! A waiter finally came up to us and offered us chips and salsa. He brought me a small plastic cup of water which I poured in my glass of ice where my margarita was. I didn't even use half of the cup of water he brought me. I took a picture to show how packed with ice it was and the little amount of drink could fit in my glass. The cup of water was chilled so it had no ice so don't think I put more ice in there. The salsa and chips were okay but since the drink was bad and the salsa was mediocre we decided not to wait for a table and be further disappointed. In total we waited maybe 40 mins. I really wish this place lived up to my clients comments but it def did not. I want to give this place another chance and hopefully go when it's not so busy. read more

Fabulous margaritas! The watermelon jalapeño margarita is my favorite. Great atmosphere, friendly waitstaff and the food is unreal. With all the Mexican food restaurants we have here, this one has real soul and passion that you can taste. My favorites so far are the lengua tacos and the tuetano huaraches. This place refuses to split checks because apparently their staff is too stupid for simple arithmetic. We spent 30 minutes waiting on the check and trying to split it up. The owner came out and claimed we owed him 52 dollars and was a huge jerk. The food was great and the drinks were great. Sadly though, we went with a party of more than 6. They don't split tabs, and when we told the waitress that we wanted separate tabs at the beginning, she said we'd figure it out at the end. When the tab came, we were forced to split it up on our own. For a restaurant with this price of food/drink, they should have the ability to split up tabs for larger tables. When we split the tabs ourselves, the owner came out and complained that we tried to short them $52. If we were trying to short you, we would've walked off the patio while waiting 20 minutes for the check. We were trying to pay the entire tab, and tip well, but apparently after we split the tab/tip ourselves based on the food/drink items, it didn't add up to the tip amount the owner wanted. The owner then threw a childish fit and said it wasn't worth it for them to handle the split checks themselves and told us to leave. We will not be going back, and hope that you won't spend the same time/money that we did. read more

I spent about a month total in ATX during 2016 while living on the corporate card, so I did some eating that's for sure. This is my favorite restaurant in town - one week I ate here 3 nights. The pastor plate is awesome. Go late at night and try to get the last of the spit meat - it doesn't get much better than that. I like to pair that with the lenguas soprecitos. We we went with our real Mexican friends from San Luis Potosi who have known the owner since he was the manager of Vespaio. Kids and all! All the food was amazing: the tuetano (bone marrow) huaraches was delicious as was the ceviche, as was the huachinango (snapper) main dish, as was the chocolate cake with cajeta (homemade carmelized goat cheese dulce de leche). First time trying this place last month and we really enjoyed it. I had the Conchinita Pabil and the Champinon. I remember the Champinon being burn your mouth spice, but the menu doesn't seem to support that, so maybe I ordered something different. It was all good though. Go for happy hour, but don't make the mistake of ordering as much food as we did. Two is plenty for one person. We were too full of delicious goodness. Drink was very tasty!! worth what I paid for for sure. busser sets chips and salsa in front of me. both were delicious. however, my entrees were where they crashed and burned. Tried the Flor de Jamaica quesadilla. Tortilla was slightly burned, and the stuffing in the quesadilla was flavorless in its entirety. Even th cheese tasted flavorless. All I could taste was the tortilla and a tiny bit of cheese (even though it was loaded with cheese)... second trip. ordered the Pulpo w/ chorizo. $15 for a cup worth of leathery squid on a broth that had hints of chorizo. served with a home made corn tortilla. thats it.... quite. umm boring and not fillin to say the least. Service was lovely....drinks were so tasty...and again...the food...soooooooo good! I had the Bonita and the Vampiro...on opposite ends of the drink spectrum but both so good. For eats I had sopacito tinga de pollo and the huarache champinon . Both amazing, but seriously only needed to order one. Went here on a Friday night with a big group. They accommodated our large group nicely, which we appreciated. The atmosphere is relaxed and fun. It's a very Austin-y place. I got the watermelon/jalapeño margarita, which was good. I wasn't blown away--maybe I had read too many raving reviews about it. It's definitely worth ordering, though. The green salsa is nice and spicy. The red salsa just tastes like plain tomato sauce, so I wasn't a fan at all. For dinner, I got the mushroom flatbread. It was tasty, but it's very heavy on the dairy products, which makes it super rich. Not really my thing, but I can see why a lot of people liked it. My boyfriend got the duck enchiladas, which he liked. He couldn't finish the whole plate, which is unusual for him, so the portion was pretty generous. My only complaint is that the prices seem a little high for a little house that serves Mexican food. But the food and drinks are good, so I'd be happy to go again. read more

The cheese had the distinct texture and taste of grocery store bought mozzarella, melted in the microwave. Dear Licha's, where have you been all my life? This place is the epitome of Austin. It's really refreshing to find a place that can balance good drinks and fine food fare with such a cozy atmosphere. The hosts were super friendly. Was quoted a 30-45 min wait but we were sat in about 15 min. Just enough time to enjoy our first drinks. No complaints about our waiter Brett. Great service, and that hair? Hellllllooooooo, werq it. Not too big on the red salsa, but that green had me at the first bite. I asked for more green salsa from the host walking by, Josh I believe, and he actually brought me back a little small dish full of it. Pretty much, that's the moment I fell in love with your restaurant. Great food, amazing service. Don't change a thing (open to new menu items of course, let me know), I will be back! It was cold last night (about 50 degrees) and we got a table outside in a tent (plus it was super cold even thou there was a heater). It reminded me when I was in Iraq in 2003-it caused me flashbacks. Even thou we requested another table the waitress said "No". Very sad to get denied a table inside for someone that puts the military uniform and defend the country. Moreover, another person came to see how we are doing, and I said "it was cold" and he said in Spanish" arropate con la sabana de tu tío". Even thou I know Spanish, I quite did not understand the meaning. I thought it was rude to mention a family member. Lastly, the waitress didn't even offer dessert.
