Liberty officially becomes my favorite bar in Seattle now! Love their delicate drinks menu, it was divided into several chapters and each chapter has a list of different drinks (Classics or Bubbly or Stir & Drink or Citrus...), you can tell they really put effort into the menu and each drink is a different story of flavors. We tried the Chef's choice and it was amazing! Definitely come back to try other food items as well. Our servers were really friendly but was not attentive at times, it's understandable because the bar was full when we were there. Thirteen years ago I went here on my first date with my now husband of nine years. It's hard to get away for dates now that we are parents but we pop back in whenever possible. It's been through several owners in that time and while I miss some of the vegetarian rolls they used to have and creativity of the sushi- the drinks are still lovingly made, the service is friendly and expedient and the ambiance is cozy. I came here on a weekday and it was really packed. I ordered the seared salmon roll and it was delicious! I was a little apprehensive about ordering sushi at a bar but it was really good. I would come back for that. My date and I also got mocktails which I really enjoyed. I got the nimbus 200 drink (for all the harry potter fans out there, woohoo!) without the alcohol which was good but they charged me the same amount for a mocktail than a cocktail. Liberty has been around and I finally made it in for a cheeky beverage. We were greeted warmly and sat at the bar. After getting menus and water we sat for ten minutes while one bartender served other customers and two servers stood around talking. Did not look our way even though they were near us. Finally after ordering from the one working staff member we got our drinks. My partner enjoyed the whiskey selection and a beer. After finding out they had no ingredients for a Bloody Mary, I decided on an old fashioned. My drink was stiff, really strong. It was tasty having cherry and chocolate notes. A good cocktail. Vibe was chill for a Sunday. Not sure it's worth a return visit with so many other better spots nearby. read more

Sushi is great. Drinks are Ok. I've had a great experience with the sushi at Liberty. It's fresh and innovative and the vibes are good. Its definitely an interesting yet pleasant twist to the usual sushi menus you see. They only really have sushi or drinks so this would be a dope date spot. Music is loud and the place is dark enough. Seats other than the bar and tables in the back are definitely more for people who are just there for a drink. If you plan on eating the back area is definitely a better place to be. Good spot for sushi and some bomb cocktails Liberty is one of those places that has done a great job of keeping their identity as a really cool bar that has something incredibly unique to offer: it's got some really good sushi! Their cocktails are all unique and I've mostly stuck with the whiskey and bourbon and it's been consistently really good (Also, they do this really cool drink with smoke and it tastes ok but it looks really cool). The food is pretty good; the tuna tataki is amazing! We've had a few rolls and it's pretty decent. The ambiance is very modern and loungu with couch seating in the front, a few tables in the back and bar seating. I've never had an issue with seating but I've only been there on Sunday evenings. Whew, just had a fabulous night at Liberty when visiting from out of town. Myself, my husband, best friend, and her dad came in to get "one cocktail" and stayed for three (four?!) rounds plus lots of sushi. Liberty has a great ambiance - we didn't have a reservation on that Wednesday but were seated after 10 minutes. Our server Brandon was charming and attentive, giving us great drink recommendations and dealing with our silliness. The dim lights, and small lounge interior create a very cozy atmosphere for catching up or long late night conversations. Although it's a bit of a walk away from Broadway in Capitol Hill and can get pretty crowded on the weekends since the place is a bit small (you may have to wait a few minutes before getting a table/seat), the drinks are delicious and the sushi is pretty good. I decided to check this place out based on the great Yelp reviews. I was a bit thrown off when I first arrived because I searched for sushi and this place looked like a small bar but sure enough they did serve sushi but the menu was really small. The interior was very cozy. The service was okay. It took forever for our order to be taken and twice as long for us to get our food. Although, they had a small sushi menu, we found that the sushi was really good. The fish was fresh and the rolls were delicious. This is one of my favorite cocktail bars in the area (without paid parking) where drinks are decently priced, a big menu , a laid back ambience, and the fact that it doesn't get that packed all the time. On top of all that, the sushi here is great where the fish quality is excellent! This spot has a fantastic asian influenced cocktail menu with a healthy amount of egg white cocktails! There are not only chairs but also couches, giving this spot a very dynamic and laid back vibe. To put this into reference, I came with a friend and we ordered drinks, but we also were able to bust out our laptops to get some mid/late day productivity without feeling out of place/shoo'ed out. I've come here a few times and I've loved my experience everytime. This is also a fantastic date spot! We had a fantastic time visiting Liberty. It's got a unique "cocktail bar w/ sushi" vibe that I've learned to appreciate. A huge whiskey selection and also a decent sized tequila/mezcal/amaro as well. You can easily spend several hours here or just come for a single drink and be happy. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and very fun to be around. There was a one guy who was telling us the history of Mezcal and crafted an amazing flight that truly changed my perspective on mezcal. There was a one bartender who was making awesome cocktails, my wife and I kept sampling each other's drinks (their whiskey & mezcal drinks are ) and they were so different yet very delicious. We also got some sushi, because why not, and the chef rolls was really good (we like nigiri more) and also tried their sashimi and it was good. Can't compare the sushi here to a sushi bar but it scratched the itch. Overall, fantastic gem that has a great Seattle vibe and the staff know how to give you a good time. Simply put, in my opinion, this is the best bar in Seattle. They serve excellent, creative cocktails and pair them with a selection of sushi that's at the caliber of good Japanese places. Think hip but down to earth bar with sushi, not sushi bar with cocktails. My date and I both ordered the lychee cocktail- we both liked mine more because I subbed out the house gin with Hendricks gin that's smoother and makes the drink sweeter and more floral. The house gin has a bite to it. We ordered firecracker, joe hanoo, and liberty. Joe hanoo was our favorite. Firecracker was good. Liberty roll was ok- the shiso leaf was overpowering in mint taste and had too much rice. I'd give the rolls a 3 star and the drinks a 5 star. I'd go again for the drinks but not the sushi as there are better sushi places in CapHill. Service was good and they checked in on us periodically. read more

I like Liberty much more since my last spontaneous visit with a big group of people. The back room was fantastic for housing our group, as well as the other group of friends that somehow ended up there at the exact same time as our group. (We were at different events prior to our Liberty stop.) What made me even happier than the back room? The nigiri sushi was absolutely amazing. A warning to other sushi addicts: If you're on a budget, ask about the nigiri prices. My bill total was much higher than I expected because I saw it said something like $6 next to the nigiri section, but I didn't notice the "+" after the 6. I don't know about you, but I dislike mystery prices. You shouldn't go cheap when it comes to sushi, but some fish can be really expensive, and I prefer to not order those special kinds of fish accidentally. I look forward to going back to Liberty for more delicious sushi! read more

We came here for a really late lunch (around 2pm) on Easter Sunday. To our surprise Liberty was super busy - most tables/sofas were taken. Clearly the rush was unexpected so the restaurant was super understaffed - only one person was covering the entire bar + dinning area. We ordered one cocktail, one Seattle rolls (salmon/avocado/tobiko), one Negido Hama rolls (yellowtail/avocado), one Firecracker rolls (unagi/salmon/tobiko), and one Miso Salmon Salad. Didn't get our food until at least half an hour later :( I enjoyed all of them but in particular the firecracker rolls and the Seattle rolls. The sauce in the firecracker was amazing. The other two are decent as well. Everything was fresh and tasted really good. The service today was extremely slow but we understand that it was understaffed. It felt more like a bar than a restaurant to me. Their drink menu was more than five pages long, but their food menu was only about two pages... price was within the reasonable range. read more

I haven't been to Liberty for awhile until last Friday, and I wonder why I stopped coming here. The place is great to lounge around and catch up with friends or makes a nice date spot. The happy hour is ok. There's a $3 hh roll, which always seems the same (smoked salmon with veggies). I personally prefer to stick with the chef's plate, which comes in a $10-$20-$30 price point. I recently discovered to make sure you specify if you want your plate to feature rolls, nigiri or sashimi or else they make just give you a plate of rolls. read more

Sushi, whiskey flights and a lesson on how it all got started. So cool that you can give a price range (minimum $15), tell a flavor profile and they'll let you try four different pours of local and /or international brands. I like the taste of whiskey but admittedly didn't know the difference between regions, different malts and barrels, etc but our server was excellent. Very knowlegable about the drinks they serve and I loved my pours from Ireland, Scotland, Japan and Seattle haha. I also enjoyed trying my's friends flight as well... Amazing how each tasted and released so different. I really had no idea there was such an art and science to it all and we were congratulated more than once for our 8 bottles of whiskey. Haha. A great place to explore and discover what you may and may not like and bottles aren't limited to just whiskey. The vibe is chill, parking is ample and crowds are not crazy like you'd find deeper in the hill. Sushi here is fresh and legit too! Tried the seattle roll, negihama and the tataki... All very good and helped to differentiate from the pours after they had muddled together after a bit. A friend of mine is going to school up here and suggested we meet up here. Great little spot! Interesting drink menu! And an even more interesting sushi menu. Very non-traditional as far as being authentic Japanese, but I don't think that's the goal. When I went up to the bar to pay, I was able to see the great variety of liquors they offer. We started with the Emerald City roll... which was very good! We then had Joe's Hanoo roll which was the Wax On with seared salmon, very very good! My first drink was the Seven Leagues from Duran which was potent and refreshing. I then had a Maserati Coupe which was made with mezcal. An interesting cocktail, but I wouldn't get it again...it was not as smooth as it looked. Overall, this is a pretty cool place to come and relax. You really sink into the couches which can be a good or bad thing, not so great for eating. But I would definitely come back when I'm in this great city again! read more

Is Liberty my favorite bar in Seattle? No. But it's definitely a decent place in the neighborhood for a drink and some sushi. It's not a big space, and there is always a wait on a Friday night. My favorite things about Liberty are its doggo-friendly policy and expansive drink menu. As you'd expect, the sushi is just ok (but I don't think anyone comes to Liberty exclusively for good sushi). Service can be fairly slow because they get quite busy, but my experience is limited to weekend nights and you might have better luck on weekdays. read more

Came here for cocktails. They have some crafty names and strong combinations. I appreciate the flavor and the drinks that aren't too sweet. I started my evening with the Lady Buzz. A good balance between cocktail and wine. After hanging out for a bit, we decided to snack on the Queen of Green. It was very tasty. We are fans of tuna, avocado, and mango. They also had a mango jalapeno mayo glaze on it as well. It doesn't feel like your typical sushi joint. It's quite a combo and is very comfortable to hang out.
