Don't get confused by the term pop-up, as it is still theLiberty Hound restaurant with the same chef, location and interior. It is just what they are calling their winter menu. We had the chicken parm dinner for 2 with a bottle of wine and were pleasantly surprised The chicken was tender and crisp and Nona's sauce had a smooth texture and nice flavor. I would suggest reservations as only inside dining is available this time of year. There is a bar set to one side and note you enter from the side door that goes to the museum (on the naval park side of the building). Street metered parking is nearby or walk from the transit or one of the paid parking lots. We enjoyed the food and will be back. read more

Great meal. Stopped by after hitting the beach knowing it would be busy on a 90* day on the water. The wait was about 25 minutes, not that bad for a good meal and great cooling drink! I was thinking about relocating to the Buffalo area and wanted to see the city in all of its summer glory. My son and I were looking for things to do/restaurants over the 4th of July holiday in Buffalo and I love oysters. I saw that they were hosting an oyster bar that weekend. I should have known better not to eat Oysters in July - but it's hard to get me to resist oysters on a menu. Not being a native of Buffalo, we didn't realize this restaurant was located in a tourist area of the city. Having said that, it was the type of restaurant you would find in a tourist location. We were sat on a lovely patio overlooking the water, which was stunning on a glorious summer day. We waited about 10-15 minutes before a server came to our table. I would have excused this - if the restaurant was busy (it was not). When a server did arrive, my son ordered a Coke or Pepsi and I believe I just had water. We saw my son's soda sitting on a counter and it was never brought to our table. When the server did arrive to take our order, we told him we didn't receive our drinks. I ordered a wedge salad (when that arrived, I didn't even know what to think) - was this the buffalo version of a wedge salad? I also ordered 6 oysters. They arrived on a bed of ice - like I've never seen - half regular ice and half crushed ice. Shotty to say the least. We could not wait to finish our meals and leave. When the server finally arrived back at the end of our meals - he was a wonderful person. Just must have been an "off" day for him. I hate leaving less than stellar reviews. Most of the time I leave reviews for restaurants and businesses I enjoy. The Liberty Hound deserved a low review for a plentiful of reasons. To start off we ordered half a dozen of oysters on the half shell we were both ill that night ! I understand at establishments where raw food is consumed you are warned of the possibility of food borne illnesses but aside from the oysters and their poorly presented ice it seemed as if the staff didn't put loving effort into anything at all. Ordered a wicked tuna burger as my entree, mushy, messy, and way too sweet, fell apart in my hands the minute I took a bite. When we ordered our beverages it took almost 15 minutes to receive them the server had poured them but another issue had caught his attention and we ended up receiving flat coke after the oysters. It's a shame that Buffalo is home to very unpleasant dining experiences unhealthy and poor quality food. I would not recommend visiting The Liberty Hound read more

We decided to go for a nice bottle of Pinot Grigio (Caposaldo) which was crisp and fragrant, and some fun sharable seafood dishes. We came for an early dinner on a Monday around 4:00 and it was busy and loud in the dining room... almost too loud to carry on a conversation. They take reservations and walk ins. I ordered the lobster roll which came with a pickle and fries and really enjoyed it. My only disappointment is that I wish there were more fries because they were delicious! We ask for bar seating, empty at the time, they accommodate- tell us "may take time to get to you- we are booked solid". I have not been here in awhile. I was able to enjoy one of the last gorgeous summer days on their patio. I indulged with a cold glass of rose and was delighted with my shrimp and crab tostadas. I thought this would be a snack with the rising food costs. I was shocked when 2 huge tostadas came out that were loaded with shrimp and crab meat. There was more seafood than lettuce, that never happens. The shrimp were very big, and both seafood items were very fresh. There was plentiful amounts of both pico de gallo and avocado to round this out. The tostadas were crust and a nice crunch to the dish. I was full after this and wanting more. This place was on my to-try list for the longest time, but we've only been to Canalside once before because I didn't know about the ferry from Wilkenson Pointe and parking is otherwise a nightmare. We stopped here first before heading to Shark Girl and the new carousel to check if we needed to make reservations, especially since it seemed pretty busy. They said they didn't take them so we decided to come back after. We did, and then they put us on a list for 30-45 minutes which is about as much time as we just spent. I dunno, seems like they could have mentioned the list the first time, and it all would have worked out nicely. They did send a text in less than 30 minutes, so that was nice. Our server Dennis (?) was great. I didn't mind sitting outside. Even on a warm day like today it was preferred, but our seat was just out from under cover, and I had my back directly to the sun. I really wanted to try a drink called the Pink Sparkler but they apparently just ran out that day so I tried the Elderflower Cocktail instead. I knew it had cucumber vodka in it, but I was still taken aback by how cucumber-y it was. It was, after all, called the Elderflower Cocktail, not the Cucumber Cocktail. Not my favorite drink. All that said, the food was fantastic. One son finished his chicken tenders and most of his fries, which almost never happens. The other tried fried shrimp for possibly the first time, and made short work of it. My beer battered fish was huge . Hard to manage, but excellent flavor. Liked the tarter sauce, too. It wasn't overly chunky. I subbed truffle fries with garlic aioli. Those were great, too. The only downside is the fish is so big they serve it on the fries so the fries got a little soggy, but it's such a huge portion, I was getting full anyway. You really do get your money's worth. You're right next to the water if you eat outside, so you do get a nice breeze from the lake, and you can keep an eye out for the ferry if you came from Wilkenson Pointe. read more

Came here for a nice dinner outside overlooking the Erie Canal Harbor and waterfront. We didn't have a reservation but told it would only be a 30 minute wait for a table outside. Went to the bar for a drink as we waited, bar is small and crowed. Got a brooklyn summer ale and found a place to stand and wait. We were seated at an outside table after about 20 minutes, nice view of canalside. I ordered the diver scallops with charred Brussels sprouts and fingerling potatoes. Scallops were tender and flavorful, loved the sprouts! I also had a dos baja taco, the shrimp one.... delicious! Well, finally made it to Liberty Hound after many years of not wanting to wait the two hours to get a table... I know now I wasn't missing much... The mussels we ordered as an appetizer were truly generous and delicious! There were chunks of bacon (bacon lardons) , sautéed onions and blue cheese in the most wonderful broth and warm buttered bread... this is where the amazing ends... Diver scallops with fingerling potatoes and charred Brussel sprouts with bacon lardons sounded so appetizing... in reality it had no seasoning, so it was just eh... it was small and exorbitant and didn't taste great... Fish fry was generous and crispy but nothing special or amazing... Mediterranean salad was romaine lettuce with cherry tomatoes, nasty old green peppers, red onion and feta... I ordered the grilled shrimp as an add on... there were 5 small grilled shrimp with no seasoning on my salad for an extra $7.00... not worth it!
