Starlite Cleaners recently bought out Monarch Cleaners in the strip center that is anchored by…read moreVittoria on Sawmill Parkway in Powell. I had been patronizing Monarch for several years, but just dropped off my last load of clothes today. Why? 1. Significant price increase. Shirts were $1.25; they are now $1.69 (35% increase). Pants were $2.50; they are now $3.99 (60% increase). Suit jackets were $2.50; they are now $4.25 (70% increase). Today's pick-up of three shirts and a suit would have cost $8.75 just a few weeks ago, but cost $13.31 today, an increase of 52%. 2. Monarch used to accept acredit card for any size transaction. Starlite limits credit cards to orders of $10.00 or more (which, due to the increased prices, wouldn't be much of an issue anymore, but...) 3. Starlite no longer uses heavy starch on shirts. I am the customer and I like heavy starch. I will have a new cleaner in the Powell area by the weekend!
