Went there for lunch today after taking my dad to the VA to see his speech pathologist. I had the bone marrow stroganoff which was amazing. It was more than I could finish, so I brought home to my husband who ate it cold and was impressed. My mother had the Pork Belly Bahn Mi which was delicious and came with perfectly crispy tator tots and house ketchup. My dad ordered the burger, they had a Mediterranean burger special that sounded amazing, but they made him just a regular bacon cheeseburger instead. He has dementia and struggles finding his words, but she was incredibly patient with him while he placed his order. We of course couldn't leave without trying the Big A$$ Cinnamon Roll. This thing is huge, like the size of 4 normal giant Cinnamon rolls the $10 price tag is not unreasonable. They brought it to us in a to go container and gave us extra frosting because, well, fat kid problems. It was tasty and most of it came home with us. The place is a bit loud, but service is great, food is fantastic, owners are friendly, and the portions are good. We will definitely be returning. I saw ahead of time that there was no wifi, so I was able to prepare. I got there around 10:30am on a Wednesday, it was not super packed and was able to set up at a corner table for a little bit. The Cajun Cristo is a Libelula staple. The combination of the raspberry sauce and the hot link might sound weird, but it tastes amazing. The orange chicken was super tender and the sauce was well done. Not too sweet not too spicy. As always the tots are to die for and their homemade ketchup is one of a kind. This is a literal hidden gym. Location is a bit surprising, but I'm secretly hoping people don't find out about it so it's not overcrowded. Had breakfast here for my wife's birthday and loved it! We are originally from the San Francisco Bay Area and this place gave us all the nostalgia feels. The decor is unabashedly unique (love the vegan taxidermy) and the staff are very welcoming. It wasn't too busy on a Friday morning, but the owner came out during our meal to ensure we were enjoying ourselves. Always appreciated. I ordered the bread pudding French toast and my wife had the mushroom toast. The French toast came with a caramel drizzle that was delicious and brought an even amount of sweet and salty. The toast itself was fluffy and its egg flavor was a great complement to the drizzle. I would come back weekly just for this. I used my favorite app, Yelp, to check out places to eat. I found this place right around the corner from the Crest Theater on Broadway and Fresno Street. Outside you couldn't tell if this was a restaurant or some closed down building. Once inside it a different atmosphere, clean and organized. I came by Libelula for an early lunch. I've seen some posts for this place. it caught my eye and was near the downtown area, so I figured I would swing by. Like the other reviews say, the decor is rather eclectic and space can be tight. It makes me think about how accessible this place is for people in wheelchairs, but I guess the owners know what to do in those situations Ok. The food. We ordered the spicy Mac and cheese and overall it was good. The sauce itself is pretty rich and the kimchi was perfect to cut through, but I wish it was spicier and that there was more of it. The sandwich was great and huge, but again when I see something denoting spice I want it to have a kick and this was a tap. After months of hearing about Libelula, we finally got to try it this week. There are a lot of pluses about this restaurant, but also some minuses. I'll start with the good: First of all, we really liked the menu variety. They offer a super wide range of cuisines here, from Mexican to Korean to new Southern cooking. We also liked how most of the menu offerings are unique takes on classic dishes. The staff is super friendly, with the chef taking the opportunity to talk to every table. And, it's great that the restaurant has chosen to locate itself in Downtown Fresno. Now the things that could be improved: First of all, it was warm outside (around 80 when we arrived), but not *HOT* like it can be in Fresno. Still, the a/c could not keep up, so it was uncomfortably warm inside the restaurant. Secondly, our food took a really long time to arrive...at least 20-25 minutes after ordering. We were not in a big hurry (aside from needing to re-feed our parking meter), but if you are in a hurry to eat, this is not your place. Thirdly, we were not super impressed with the actual taste of the food. While the ideas were all great, and they use some amazing ingredients, the execution (and presentation) could have been better. For example, the person who ordered the tomato and cheese sandwich reported that there were too many different veggies and cheeses...it was just too complex (it didn't look especially appetizing either). As for my bone marrow and huitlacoche tacos (a corn fungus prized in Mexico that's quite delicious), the addition of parmesan cheese to the marrow was also too much (marrow definitely stands by itself and doesn't need any additions), and the price/quantity ratio of the dish was off (it was $15, and I was hungry again an hour later). While I love the ideas at this place, and I will probably come back for breakfast at some point, there are some major minuses that you should know about before choosing to eat here. read more

I love Libelula's commitment to a farm-to-table approach which of course means items on their menu will rotate and specials will crop up when seasonal ingredients are freshest. They offer excellent creations for omnivores, vegetarians, and vegans alike. The space is cozy and full of eclectic decor! Every wall, table, and corner is visually interesting. I appreciate that even though the area could probably feel packed very easily, due to their table arrangement and appropriately timed service a busy Saturday afternoon didn't feel like a sardine can. All staff and the owner were friendly and attentive, even topping off my tea of the day at no extra charge. The perfect little place that was full of interest from what hung on the wall to the mismatched serving pieces.. We couldn't make up our mind so we ordered four dishes and nibbled. I've been wanting to try this place for months, but just haven't gotten around to it - either no parking or they are not open when I'm getting off work downtown. I ordered through Grubhub pickup today and got the eggs Benedict (adding 2 pieces of bacon and avocado) and a side of tots. After adding a 15% tip, the total was $30. There was one parking spot open so I lucked out, and the service was very good when I entered. They packaged the food up nicely and did all they could do to ensure it was warm for when I got home. As for the food, it was ok. The tots were my favorite. The English muffin they used was great and big, unlike the cheap store bought ones. The eggs were great, a bit cold by the time I got home, but still good. The hollandaise sauce wasn't very flavorful, nor was the pork. The added bacon was extra crispy as I had asked, so that was nice. Overall, the food wasn't too impressive, especially for a $30 breakfast. The prices here for breakfast items in particular seem to be very pricey. I would expect tots to come as a side with the eggs Benedict given the price, but it was an additional $5 add on. It just seems way overpriced. While I won't likely return for breakfast items, I will definitely return to try some of their lunch items. The entire menu looks delicious. read more

(Understandable for a busy Saturday morning) BUT I anticipated the staff having some sense of urgency in getting our table clean. They did not. The table behind ours got bussed and sat prior to our table being bussed. The owner I believe came over and she kept apologizing telling us that our table would get cleaned. About another 10 minutes went by and still no clean table. Finally the owner comes back over and cleans our table herself. She was sincere in her apology (which I appreciated) for the table not being cleaned in a timely manner. But it was still slightly frustrating due to the fact that the young girl who bussed the table behind ours could have easily cleaned our table but instead it was as if she didn't even see that we were there. Now to the food. I ordered the tots with spicy red curry sauce and added habanero cheese. The tots were excellent. Nice and crispy. Perfectly cooked. The cheese was good as well. But it lacked heavily on the curry sauce. I ordered the tots based off a prior yelp review that showed a photo and the sauce looked bright red and fragrant. Mine didn't appear to have the sauce on it. However I did notice 2 Thai chili's under my fried egg. Overall rating of this place is 3 stars. I understand the business is fairly new but I definitely think there needs to be a slight increase in the customer service and urgency of providing customers with clean tables. I think I will give this place another shot. The sriracha fried chicken looked pretty good. So I'll give that a go my next time around. read more

I have been here twice and have enjoyed the food here both times. The first time I came in was for lunch. I had the peach and Brie sandwich with tots. It was absolutely delicious! The sandwich was perfectly toasted and the Brie melted beautifully. Even the ketchup has a unique twist to it. It tasted like they added some curry powder to it. I also loved how crispy the tots were. During this visit, I also got to try their specialty ice cream. I chose the strawberry and black peppercorn and OMG. At first, I was hesitant because pepper and ice cream? It works, trust me! On the second occasion, I came in for breakfast with a friend. We ordered the eggs Benedict and mushroom toast to share. Both dishes were absolutely delicious. The pork porchetta was melt in your mouth divine! The mushroom toast had so much flavor to it as well. I believe they also use home made bread here from Salty Bitch Bakery. The English muffin I had didn't taste like any old regular English muffin. It was thick and fluffy. My friend and I both enjoyed our meal and of course plan to return again soon to try many of their other wonderful dishes. I love supporting local businesses when I can. Take a risk and order the daily special because it's probably full of what's freshest at the farmer's market and it will likely be amazing. I would not have predicted how amazing the Thai mac and cheese is. Cheese + Thai chilis + curry didn't make sense to me BUT OH IT DOES. The crunchy little bits of tater tots on top mimic breadcrumbs and are a perfect complement to the rich sauce and cavatappi pasta. The portion is definitely shareable. You will not be sorry. Other home runs: The chef's special fig toast is grilled sourdough with fresh figs, ricotta, caramel drizzle, and fresh tarragon. I'd love to have some arugula or more cracked pepper on it. The maple sriracha chicken sandwich with house made kimchee is fantastic. The crunchy pickled cabbage slaw is so, so tasty with the fried chicken. Again, share these dishes and split something else so you can try lots of things - even if they don't seem to go together whatsoever. The fruit teas are handmade, every single day, and a lot of work goes into making them. They cook and purée fruit and veggies, then run them through a sieve to remove all chunks and seeds. It's flavors you don't think will work together yet somehow the chef here makes them work and it is the biggest foodgasm them you'll ever have. Not only are the portions huge, but everything is amazing. The place is small and the hours are limited but that would be my only gripe.
