I love the hotel - but... the Li Galli restaurant... was incredibly disappointed. This was by far the worst Michelin star restaurant i've been to. The whole experience was long to the point of tiring. Our dinner reservation was at 7:30 when the restaurant first opened and we were one of the earlier guests when the place was empty. The place is small - I mean there are only 6-7 tables, so I really don't know why the entire thing felt miserable. The first course (usually a palate cleanser) didn't start until past 8 PM. We didn't have dessert until 10:40 PM. It was just painstakingly long as we were just waiting majority of the time (and just munching on bread). Wine was mediocre. Servers are the same hotel employees you find up at the pool, breakfast area. I think this place tries to have eclectic dishes and presentation looks great, but flavor falls short. We had one dish that was roasted spaghetti and it was burnt (not to mention it was served at 9 PM! like the pasta had charred parts visibly seen! We had been to several Michelin star restaurants in Italy and this unfortunately was the worst. Another dish which served gnocchi - i couldn't eat past 1-2 helpings b/c it just was overwhelmingly salty and dense. Usually with the tasting menu - you lose track of time, b/c you're enjoying the food and the experience - but I couldn't enjoy anything. The only thing I can comment on a positive note was the patisserie - the monopoly board game was fantastic, and the servers were kind to give us a congratulatory chocolate dessert - but unfortunately we were so full and tired (all we wanted to do at this point was sleep). We asked them to pack it up and go, and when we left we thought the box they gave us was our dessert- but it turned out to be just something for the next day for breakfast - so we ended up with NONE of our dessert. IT was now past 11 PM - and we were too tired to even bother to go back downstairs and ask for our dessert and called it a night. There was another couple who had the exact same menu as us who were seated later at least half an hour later, who were served much quicker than us (their dinner probably lasted 2.5 hours!). We were seated near the window and near the back - so not sure if that factored into the fact that our service was going at snail's pace Save your money and eat upstairs at the pool restaurant - they have much better food (e.g. oysters, lemon pasta, calamari) at much better price and they're faster with service too.

This is absolutely my favorite restaurant in Positano. If you come to Positano and miss a meal at Li Galli located in the Villa Franco Hotel, you have missed a real treat! And you know when the locals suggest a place, it has to be one of the best places in town and this came to me as a reccomednation. The restaurant itself is small, elegant and beautiful with views overlooking the Mediterranean. This is a true "foodie" restaurant in so much that the ingredients change day to day so the menu is ever evolving, the wine list is extensive and they even have a TV screen at one end of the room where you can watch your food being prepared. We went to celebrate a special occasion. We were warmly greeted at the door and shown to a table in the center of the room. It doesn't matter where you sit as there are only about 10 tables in the place and the views and experience are superb in all of them! Our dinner began with a complimentary "amuse bouche" which was a mini parfait with ricotta cheese, grapefruit and some crunchies on the bottom. Next up I had the tuna tartar with mango which was very fresh and unique as it had these "rice crumbles" on top which added a bit of crunch to the preparation. And the presentation? Stunning. Other choices at our table included a firs gras e Mela verde For my entree I went with the veal and mushrooms and shared a bit of my friend's scallops. Both dishes were so artfully prepared they melted in your mouth. My friend had the kobe filet which was perfectly prepared, And for dessert? Check out the sugar sphere which was filled with some type of custard and was absolutely delicious. My friend had the gorgonzola cheese and pear dessert which was also just lovely. The pics I've posted really don't do the food justice. Dinner for 4 ran about 400 euros but that included drinks as well as wine and multitude of courses so we all thought it was a reasonable price for the overall experience. And this restaurant was so nice to us, they took us on a tour of their rooftop deck which overlooks Positano and given there was a harvest moon, the views were incredible. A special thank you to Franco and the rest of the team at Li Galli Restaurant for making our special evening just perfect. And here's a tip- if you are staying in Positano and don't want to walk to the Li Galli, they provide a free shuttle service to and from the restaurant so be sure to call as while it is close, given the roads are all one way, it's hard to find (at least for this girl!) This is a must visit in Positano!

Dining at La Galli was incredible. This was by far the best restaurant we dined in while in Positano (and we dined at two of the Michelin star restaurants while there), and one of the top three dining experiences I have had. The restaurant is in Hotel Villa Franca on the main floor. From the plates, vases, chandeliers, ice buckets, staff attire, you name it, no detail was overlooked, and it is beautifully decorated, as is the hotel. We dined here twice. The first night we ordered from the tasting menu. There is a larger tasting menu with champagne and a few extra courses, as well as several options for a four-course tasting. (A meat heavy, seafood heavy, and vegetarian option.) They didn't bat an eye when we asked if we could order two different four-course tastings, and all eight of the dishes were delicious. The four-course tasting (as well as the a la carte dinner later in the week) came with a gorgeous 7 piece amuse bouche, an olive-oil tasting, and a dessert cart. It was a ton of food and all amazing. The second time here we didn't want as much food so we ordered a few of our favorites from the tasting menu a la carte and they were just as delicious. The sommelier was right on point and turned us on a few reasonably priced bottles to search for at home. The staff was really wonderful and showed an incredible amount of grace to a couple of difficult patrons who thought dining in a nice restaurant meant they didn't need manners. This is a fairly small restaurant so if you want one of the four tables directly in front of the water, you need to make a reservation. The dress code is "smart casual" and men aren't allowed in wearing shorts. This place is also pretty bougie so I felt appropriately dressed in a nice dress and heels. Can't recommend this place enough and will be back the next time we are in Positano

Definitely recommend Best dinner & service in Positano! The chef did an outstanding job w the display of his food, super tasty w great views

Our best restaurant experience in positano! we ate here both nights…read more After wandering around the first night and receiving a recommendation from someone at the Sirenuse hotel to check out Max for some good pasta, we decided to give it a try. So happy we did. The bread basket alone was the first indicator - they had such an array of options and all of it was warm and fresh - the focaccia was literally the best I've ever had, it was oily and salty in itself, and so rich to snack on before the food arrived The mozzarella Caprese was so fresh and delicious. The tomatoes were perfectly ripe, the cheese was clearly fresh and highly quality. Only available in Italy like that for sure. I tried the sea bass the first night - amazing. Falls off the fork it's cooked so tenderly, and the lemon sauce, everything was perfect. The second night, i had the lasagna which was also incredible and so visually stunning, just this round pasta in layers of gooey cheese, meat and sauce. On the first night My friend had the seafood pasta wjicj she was raving about, on the second night she had the pasta trio which wasn't worth ordering. Everything else was seriously amazing and the prices weren't insane despite positano being the most expensive leg of the trip. Totally would come back.

The restaurant is beautiful and the food was great. However the service was awful. The sommelier…read morewas very rude and spoke down to us. I'm not sure if I was due to the language barrier or because we were American. The whole dinner was very awkward and we did not feel welcome.
