There's lots of choices of restaurants on Beale Street to eat at and a tough choice for a foodie, with a lot of pressure from the inner voice to go with bbq. I however, decided to go with catfish, and it was pretty good, not the best I've had, but pretty good. My bf and I shared a platter for lunch, and it was plenty for both of us to eat since the portion of catfish was nice. Wish the portion of coleslaw was a little bigger, to make me feel like I had some veggie with all my fried food. Premium fries would have pushed it to 5 stars. read more

So met the owner during our group outing with A Tour of Possibilities www.atopmemphis.com. Our guide highly recommended his place. He bragged on his 1 & 1/2 wings and live music with Ms. Nikki. Well he was right!! By far my favorite wings from my entire trip in Memphis. I had Lemon Pepper & I enjoyed them immensely. My BFF had the catfish filet & it was seasoned to perfection. My other friend had a bacon cheeseburger and she enjoyed it as well. The venue is nothing fancy, but the live music made up for that. Ms. Nikki and the band were amazing!!! The lead guitarist did a solo of Purple Rain and got a standing ovation. Will definitely come back, it is a great piece of Beale St. read more

We stopped in for a pre-game bite to eat. The whole wings were big, seasoned well, and surprisingly tender. We were there on a Tuesday night and old school jams and blues bellowed from the speakers up front. We sat at the bar. Drinks were two for one. Spacious and inviting atmosphere. Friendly staff. My review is simply for the food. On October 14, just prior to the Pearl Jam concert at FedEx Forum my wife and I dropped into this spacious new bar/restaurant for a quick bite. Located at the very end of the strip, the place was empty when we arrived and we were nervous we had chosen a sinking ship. I ordered a Blue Note burger which was served on toasted white bread. The bread had obviously been buttered and grilled - similar to a Grilled Cheese - which gave it an extra level of fucking awesome and the crinkle cut fries were cooked to perfection. My only negative was the poor beer selection. I had really hoped for a nice Hoppy IPA, but instead settled for a Heineken. Leaving this review for my parents: Parents visited on a Friday afternoon, sat and ordered some Cokes and their food. Only one other table in the restaurant at that time and their food was delivered incorrectly. They sat and waited, after ordering, for an hour at which point they asked the waiter where their food might be. Another hour went by, no other table came in, no refills for drinks and no acknowledgment of the time passed. At just about 2 hours, the server came by and stated that the food would be another 30 seconds, at this point my parents were no longer interested in waiting. They said they would pay for their drinks and go, the restaurant insisted they were on the house, and apologized for their wait. They would not recommend a visit if my wife and I were I town. So we walked down Beale St led by a guy in a red zoot suit,red hat,neon glasses and matching tie. He promised us good music and food. Although we were a bit apprehensive we continued to this place, Blew Note Cafe. This woman(Nikki) is singing an Etta James song that sent chills down my spine. The guitarist (Fingers)playing so deeply that BB King himself would have applauded. The stage is small, the room is probably 2000sq ft so you're sitting fairly close. There's a bar as you walk in the door and one on the other side of the room. The kitchen is behind the stage. The menu, though limited, is pretty good. We had honey chicken wings and catfish nuggets. DELICIOUS! The nuggets were done perfectly, lightly coated, not greasy. The wings were succulent, not overly dressed. The drinks were not watered down. Prices were reasonable, the atmosphere was fantastic, people were dancing and grooving with the band. By far one of the best bars I've been to in a while. So if you find yourself being led down Beale St in Memphis by a zoot suit wearing guy, don't be afraid, he's taking you to an excellent experience! You will be very very satisfied read more

Came here right before new year's eve as a friend's recommendation. Cousins 3 was the group playing that night. They were really good music, including several covers including purple rain. The front man was a good emcee too. My host bought a CD of theirs too. The establishment itself was nice. The chicken wings and fries were really good. Had Lemon pepper and mild "naked" wings. Highly suggest the lemon pepper flavor. PBR was only $2 too, which was the cheapest beer I had anywhere on beale during the trip. Waiter was extremely nice and very good at coming back often to make sure we were good. Lew's started out busy and definitely died down since we were there out of season with record cold outside, but this place is on point. read more

Down past all the big lit up signs on Beale Street, tucked away at the very end on the right is Blue note. From the outside, you can just tell the music is a bit better here. The Memphis Blues Brothers play an excellent mix of Memphis soul and blues. The place has great character and an eclectic bunch of locals that dance along to every song. The beers are cheap and service is good. This is the place to go if you want classic Memphis blues. read more

Came to Memphis on our first visit. Walked Beale and met a gentleman by the name of Lew who preceded to tell me how good his place was.. Well, he was lying because his place is great! Not pretentious, not over priced, just down to earth good jazz and bluegrass. The food was great, the drinks were strong and music was just plain awesome. Super fun restaurant/bar. They literally have the best of the best live blues/funk bands perform on stage. The atmosphere is really relaxed, you don't have to get dressed up. The food is amazing! I had the fried pickles, which were super thin and crispy almost like chips. If you have difficulty with lots of seasoning in your food I wouldn't recommend this place. Everything was packed with seasoning and flavor. The chicken strips were a huge portion. It literally looked like they deep fried full boneless chicken breasts as strips, with a lot of flavor. Wings were pretty good (again! Twice the size of your average hot wings). Peach cobbler was good and had the texture of bread pudding! #YUM Friendly waitresses. Comfy booths. Beale Street is big and flashy now but Lew's Blue Note is the real deal. The food is simple but good. I had fried catfish and the fish was tender and the fries were good. What really surpassed was the small-town feel of the place and the warm and friendly atmosphere. The band was very engaging and entertaining and they encouraged everyone to dance. They knew how to pull the crowd into the entertainment. If you find that the "new and improved" Beale Street disappoints, you will be very much pleased with Lew's Blue Note. Great wings! They['re not "buffalo wings" in the traditional sense, but they are real-sized chicken wings you'd get at KFC or something. KFC-like in size but they were for real, home-made, deep fried, chicken wings with hot sauce. Seriously, they were great. First off I'm always here for two things, cheap liquor and great music. Blue Note Bar & Grill does not disappoint on either. A rum & coke, in a glass not a plastic cup, is $5 and the bottled beer runs $2 up. The Friday night in January that we went there was a band playing down home and sho nuff juke joint blues. The place was far from crowded and the atmosphere was very juke joint, down in the country feeling. The server made sure we were good on drinks and the manager came by to check on us. If the menu didn't clash with the environment, and had some soul food on it this place would get all 5 stars. read more

Went in for a late lunch, and decided to order the catfish sandwich. It was the best decision of the day! It came out piping hot and fresh. While in town for a funeral, we stopped by Lew's place and received wonderful customer service and the wings were excellent, it didn't matter the flavor, they were all good and freshly made and the fries as well. I heard about this place on the Bev Johnson Show(WDIA). My wife and I got there around 5or 5:30 pm. Was directed by the gentleman at the door who also turned out to be the waiter, to have a seat wherever we liked to. Waited about 15 minutes and no one came by to even take a drink order. So I went to the bar and asked the guy in the Dallas Cowboys hat where there and servers working today. His response yes this is a resturant.Informed him of my wait and no serviced was provided, he then yelled at the guy at the door who originally directed us to sit anywhere to watch the door for any people coming in. Crazy series of events. End of the day,decided not to eat there out of fear if the food was like the service it would be horrible.Never ever again. There was a Blue Note Bar back in the storied past of Beale Street, so the name is entirely appropriate for this restaurant and club at the far eastern end of the entertainment district. The Blue Note features live music on weekends, but the food is cheaper- and better- than most places on Beale. The bacon cheeseburger is the best on the street. read more

Our first visit to Memphis and as we strolled down Beale St. we decide to check this place out. The live music was great--we even bought a CD! We ordered a couple drinks and one of the waitresses had a shirt on that said "Best wings on Beale St."...so we decided to order some. Our waitress suggested the lemon pepper flavor (which neither of us is usually a fan of), but we tried it anyway. OH EM GEE. Fantastic! Not only were they seasoned amazingly, they were SO hot (temperature) that you know they were just made! Later we ordered peach cobbler with icecream, and although I am not usually a fan of peach cobbler, I REALLY enjoyed it!
