Craving a lox bagel one Saturday morning, I looked up a place near me. I've seen this shop tons of times while on 580 and have never thought to stop, so I was excited to finally get there. I had the Nova Lox bagel and it left so much to be desired that I decided not to finish it and to just make them at home from now on. The cream cheese was super think and the whole thing tasted sorta squishy in lackluster. I usually crave a bagel about 2 times a week and this place is always my go-to in the morning! I usually call in my order because I pick it up in between meetings and there is someone always there to answer the phone. My order is usually ready within 5 minutes. Usual orders: 1 lox bagel, 1 jalapeño bagel with veggie cream cheese toasted and 1 bagel hot link toasted. I usually ask for the capers off of the lox bagel and they do it (and are nice about it too! Some other places would sound very annoyed). The hot link is always served with to go mustard and ketchup containers (yay - so convenient for work). The staff is always so nice. These Bagels are SO. GOOD. NY Style, fresh, chewy and really the best bagels I've had in Alameda. I'm *so* happy that its near my home, but also unnerved because I'm afraid of what the addiction might do to me! Came down all the way from Southern California for this great Bagel Shop! Owner was extremely friendly. As for the food, the cookies and bagels I picked up were delicious. Bagel has the perfect amount of chew and adelightfully crisp exterior. The flavors are spot on, with just the right balance of seasoning. One of the best breakfast sandwiches I've ever had. I got a simple bagel sandwich with an egg bagel, ham, and egg (no cheese). Absolutely delicious, filling, and really hit the spot. We drove out of way after reading reviews to see if these were crunchy bagels of the boil and bake method, made famous by East European Jews of New York City. They seem like the real thing to me. We enjoyed the under $10 lox sandwich that is piled with fish, schmear, capers, tomato and thin shaved red onion. So Yum and very big indeed. My son tried a strawberry schmear on an everything bagel. The Yoohoo chocolate drink and other fine drinks in the cold case are more than average, for such a small place with under 10 tables, the place is not crowded but well stocked. Coffee here is in warmers and very good. Starbucks is next door if that's more your fancy. The help is friendly, the prices are right, which were two things that made me give them 5 stars, that and the relative cleanliness as well. I do wish that Sacramento had something so authentic. Of course even in New York City these shops are fewer all the time, so it was just wonderful to find this one tucked away in the island of Alameda. Enjoy a real crunchy bagel today. Happened to be in the area, we decided to give this bagel shop a try. It's located right next to Starbucks. Parking maybe a bit hard to find since this shopping plaza is a bit small. Staff was friendly. Simple menu is written on blackboard. We ordered morning start with bacon egg and cheese on Asiago bagel (too bad they were out of jalapeño bagel) and Sam's on white bread (roasted turkey sandwich). Everything is fresh because it's made to order. We asked to have our sandwich and bagel toasted. Everything were delicious. Turkey sandwich was stacked with turkey slices, fresh tomato slices and lettuce. Very yummy. Will stop by this place again if we are in the area. read more

This is pretty much the closest I have come to a NY bagel living in the Bay! I ordered a pumpernickel toasted with cream cheese (pumpernickel is difficult to find!) We also ordered a toasted everything with cream cheese. The cream cheese was perfect. Creamy, perfectly rich. The bagels were a good size, had the shine that a bagel should and had a nice crunch and were chewy and wonderfully tasting. Bagels are $1.25, which isn't bad. Bagel with cream cheese was a bit over priced at $2.90 but, this is the Bay Area and everything is overpriced. It's a small place with some seating to enjoy your bagel. Stopped by Levy's craving bagels and they did not disappoint at all. We ordered an everything bagel morningstar with bacon, a cheese asiago bagel morningstar with bacon, and an everything bagel with cream cheese. All the bagels were perfectly toasted, fresh, and came hot. The scrambled egg was fluffy and a good balance to the crunchy bagel, the bacon was crispy which was perfect considering most places have soggy bacon, and the bagel itself had the perfect outside coating that only real bagels can have. They didn't skimp on the cream cheese, and it was properly creamy and fresh. After placing our order, we only waited about 3 minutes to get our bagels and they served us with a smile. All the staff were extremely polite and the shop was quiet even with about 8 or so customers inside because everyone was too busy eating their bagels. The shop was clean and very well configured to let you see the bagels and other baked goods available.There isn't too much seating but that's no problem considering how yummy the bagels were. This is a nice mom and pop bagel place. The staff is very friendly and the bagels/donuts are solid. I got the lox sandwich on an everything bagel. It was tasty but I was pretty disappointed that there wasn't a lot of smoked salmon. For how much I paid I expected more. I think it would have saved me some money just ordering a bagel with lox. The bagels here are fine but there are a few caveats: the bagels are relatively small, so it's not the best if you have a big appetite. I also wish there was more of a variety - for instance, they only had cheese bagels that had jalapeños on them them or cheese bagels with pesto on them, and neither was very good in my opinion. The everything bagel didn't have all of the seasoning that are normally on everything bagels, like sesame seeds and it also could have used more garlic/onions about it. In some, the bagels here are decent but it's not somewhere ok rushing back to visit, since I don't think this is the best place to stock up on breakfast bagels for the week. read more

I would not have noticed the early closure until I saw the small sign posted on the lower left side by the door. I like bagels, especially the garlic ones with lox and whipped cream cheese or a raisin bagel with marinara sauce and pepperoni. However, bagels don't like me. The more I eat them, the more my lower part of my body (gluteus maximus) seems to expand. I chose not to take too many photos since there were only two people at Levy's; one was on his laptop and the other was enjoying her late lunch. I did not want the owner to ponder the purpose of my being there. Ambiance: wheelchair accessible. Slightly to the right of front door several tables and chairs; to the left a few more tables and chairs; display case has muffins, pastries, cookies and containers of fresh chopped fruits; refrigerators have assorted beverages, bottled water, cream cheese spread; menu board on wall behind the display case. Specialties: bagels, breakfast and lunch sandwiches, muffins, pastries, cookies, fresh fruit salad, assortment of beverages, cream cheese spread. Sodas from dispensing machine. Eats: Croissant and an apricot filled hamantaschen. Cost: $4.50. I gave the croissant to a homeless gentleman. Since I have never had a hamantashen before, I did not know what to expect. It wasn't overly sweet. The cookie dough was slightly on the dry side. The apricot filling was okay. I should have ordered tea to complement the triangular cookie. I will know the next time. Return visit: Yes, since I came to Levy's Bagel prior to their closing time, a follow up visit is necessary to determine whether there will be an upgrade of the three star rating to a four star rating. read more

Five stars for the RYE bagels! They're hard to find. They make them really well here! I grew up in New York and got spoiled with their bagels. When I came out here to California I tried places like Noah's and was disgusted with the quality, or lack there of. Finally I found Main Street Bagels in San José, where I live, and theirs were great. They have a few other locations. A good bagel has to be very chewy with a nice shiny "crust" because they're dipped in hot water before they're baked. I was visiting Alameda and looked up bagels on Yelp. I saw Levy's and that's a great Jewish name, they're likely to have a good bagels! I looked at the pictures, saw rye bagels, read the great reviews (did a search for "rye"), and had to try them. Anytime I'm in the area again I will be back! If you like rye bread, you have to try the rye bagels, though I imagine their other bagels are great, too.! And it's nice they're in a strip mall with easy parking. If you're looking for fabulous NY bagels, look no further. This is the place! read more

Been coming here for years as a quick stop prior to heading over to my engineering partner's office. Today, I had the open faced Lox sandwich for the first time. I've had a few of their NY style bagel sandwiches in the past and they've always been great but the heathy portions and fresh ingredients of the lox open faced sandwich were perfect! Fantastic place! The bagels are legitimate, the workers are friendly, and prices are fair. I've driven through the tunnel from Oakland twice now for their bagel sandwiches and have yet to be disappointed. Definitely some of the best bagels I've managed to find in the East Bay! The bagels at Levy's are superb. They are small, but quite filling. I recommend the lox or San Fran ( Chicken Salad ) bagel. If you are going to or live in Alameda, this bagel store is worth a stop. It could use a restroom, but is an A+ experience all around. read more
