Broad selection of daily freshly baked bagels. Got the bialy bagel roll and a pumpernickel bagel today. Bialy bagel roll has grated onion and bagel seasoning in the center. Pumpernickle bagel had a nice deep brown color and taste. Total for 2 bagels only came out to $5. There's a minimum $5 total to use a credit card at this venue fyi. They seem to have pretty steady traffic, even though I stopped in after the lunch rush. They are a bay area chain that apparently started in the 1990s. My favorite bagel shop is House of Bagels in Downtown San Jose. My go-to bagel is a pesto bagel w/sun dried tomato and cream cheese. Finding a bagel shop with this combination has been challenging since I moved to the East Bay. I had to try it when I saw on Yelp that Bagel Street Cafe offers this combination. The process for ordering was very simple and quick. Place your order where the bagels are and walk to the counter to pay. Once your bagel is ready, they call your order out so you can pick it up at the pickup counter. I always ask for my bagel to be extra toasted, and it turned out perfectly. Crispy on the outside but still maintaining the softness on the inside. The bagel had a good amount of pesto and cream cheese. I hate it when bagel shops don't have enough cream cheese. I'm glad I won't have to drive to San Jose when I'm craving my bagel combination. read more

Come here regularly after my Pilates class and pretty much order the same breakfast sandwich. However today they forgot to put the lox in the sandwich - the only difference from my regular order today was that I wanted the bagel toasted. Typically I order not toasted - this extra step of toasting somehow May have resulted in the staff overlooking the lox..... will let management know tomorrow ..... in person. Came here since I was craving a lox and cream cheese all dressed up and they delivered! I got the pesto bagel and I really enjoyed it. I asked for extra cream cheese and I can confidently say they "respect the schmear". Toasted the bagel, some big capers, red onion, lox, and cream cheese was in perfect proportions. We have here around 10am on a Sunday. There was only one person in front of us at the intake line but they took about 5-10 minutes to get to them (and us). The store was pretty busy, busier than other Bagel Street Cafes that I've been to. There was a good amount of seats, and some outside. It's conveniently right next to a Starbucks, lol. The bagels at Bagel street Cafe are always a big tough, so be prepared to chew. They also don't have the other drink options like Banana smoothies like the other Bagel Street cafe does. Went here and asked for a egg and cheese bagel with cream cheese and lox added. I have ordered it several times before. However today everyone seemed to be confused about the order. The young guy( maybe the owners son) then wanted to charge me for a nova lox( which comes with tomato, onions, capers, no cheese and no egg), instead of an egg and cheese bagel with a side of lox.(which had been done in the past). Seems pretty simple. The young lady clarified with me that I wanted lox ON the bagel. I said yes. He then interjected and insisted it had to be on the side. Located in the South Shore Center in Alameda, I knew I wanted to grab something really quick and yummy before I commenced my shopping. I decided on a Lox Bagel with all the fixings on Jalapeno bagel with veggie cream cheese. DAMN IT WAS GOOD! I love that they really FILL it up with all the good stuff. There was not too much or too little of anything, but just right. I do wish the bagel was toasted a tiny bit more to get more of that crunch, but I will make sure to ask for that next time. From the time I ordered to when I received my bagel, it was 4 minutes. There were others in line as well and there are tables in the business. I come here periodically and loved that they were busy on a Sunday morning. We went super basic this morning with a plain bagel and cream cheese. The item was for my daughter who is not a bagel fan. It was toasted perfectly. Her only comment was that there was too much cream cheese. That is a good problem to have. She really enjoyed it. This place used to be a 5-star spot for me, but unfortunately due to recent experiences there, I'm giving it 1 star now because of the service and quality. The bagels are good, but at times they give little cream cheese, almost nothing, which makes no sense considering they're charging for the flavored cream cheese. As for service, it can be extremely slow whether it's busy or not, which is pretty weird considering they have a lot of people working. Many of the employees come across as unmotivated, uninterested, and not friendly when helping customers. At times, most of the people on the cashier side will be on their phones or chatting with each other while there are people waiting in line to order. Quick service both times I've been here before and after my Janene's bridal appointments. Loved their veggie egg bagel (#6) with some jalapeño cream cheese, maybe a bit of salt in the egg would make it even better. Last time I went, after I paid, the cashier passed me a bagel that I then took to a bench outside and when I bit into it it had sausage- upon longer inspection I got to the conclusion that it was not my order and I went back and the person who took my order was surprised that I had a different bagel in my hand, as he had my order in his hand. Funny moment but I did end up keeping both (not that anyone would like the one I already but). No fuzz so I was happy. Ambiance is good, maybe just need to empty trash can a bit more often and wipe tables. read more

Tried Bagel Street Cafe for the first time today after eyeing it for years! It's in a great location at South Shore, super convenient to grab a bite while running errands (aka dropping off all my returns hehe). I got an egg, sausage, and cheese bagel sandwich on a jalapeño cheddar bagel. There was a pretty good selection of different types of bagels to choose from. The bagel itself was quite flavorful and came out nice and toasty! Unfortunately, the egg was super lacking in flavor and the sausage was rather small. Overall, it was a decent spot to grab a sandwich and not bad for $7, but nothing to write home about. It definitely doesn't pack the same punch as a bagel you could would get in New York, but that's to be expected. It's also not the same as a bagel you would get a Boichik, with its hefty amount of cream cheese that is practically an inch thick, but it's also not $20, so I'll take it! read more

This is usually my go-to spot for breakfast on the go. I typically come right when they open. They usually open a couple minutes after they're supposed to open (they don't open on time). Came in on a Saturday morning around 9ish. Was very busy with about 6-8 people in front of me. There were about 4 ladies taking orders and making bagels. The lady who took my order, repeated my order so I assumed everything was fine. She messed up my bagel and gave me bacon instead of sausage. I was already home so this was extremely disappointing. I'm here on vacation and this bagel shop is walking distance from my hotel. The bagels looks delicious and tasted amazing! I got eggs and avocado on an everything bagel and it was so tasty. The service was fast and the bagel was fresh and hot. There are plenty of tables inside and outside which was nice to be able to sit there and eat it fresh. I took off a star because at 10am they were already out of a lot of bagels. But other than that I was very satisfied. While it was fresh, nicely toasted & the smell of cheese permeated the air, I didn't taste a fresh tomato based sauce (maybe lacking in herbs). Bagel was really light today on toppings :') I always get the same thing (veggie avocado) because it comes with a mountain of veggies, but today it has just one thin piece of lettuce and barely any sprouts and 3 slice of banana pepper. Even the tomato is sliced so thin. This isn't my usual experience so I still wanted to keep 4 stars and just give the feedback to the business, I hope this is maybe just a new employee and not the new normal for the sandwich. Compared to other locations, this one is the very worst for a Lox bagel with everything in it. Little filling, and the most expensive at $12 (it is the most expensive location). The inside is extremely rundown, the lighting is dark, and orders take long. The tables are trashed and not used by the shop's customers. For a good location, the shop is the worst of the worst. The bagel itself costs a lot, but they barely add any lox. This is the worst location: extremely overpriced, poor filling, and stale bagels. Avoid it. Go to the 12st Oakland one instead. read more

Can someone tell me why a business doesn't want to make more money? Have customers? Earn business, especially during the crowded mall hours? I also realized that the big two bagel places in town, Levy's and HoB, close at 2 pm. What a shame! But hooray for this place that is conveniently located in the back of the South Shore Center, with easy parking: they stay open until 3! (Well, my Yelp app on my phone told me "Closes in 57 minutes" --so I got there quick. Everything was going OK for the first 10 minutes or so. I ordered an everything bagel with jalapeño cream cheese ---it was spicy!--and a light touch on that cream cheese, as per my instructions. The bagel was nothing to brag about. It tasted like toast and did not have any memorable spices or flavors. In short, Boichik Bagels or Saul's Deli in Berkeley have absolutely nothing to worry about. The coffee was fine ---the medium roast was almost done. And who would be surprised? I mean it was 2:20, and this place had to be busy all day since early morning. But what was happening all of a sudden? I heard some Spanish being spoken, and I overheard something about needing to leave, or more like wanting to leave. Then this teenage employee (he told another co worker he was 16) came up to the three or so tables and asked us to leave when we were done through the side back door. I also took this to mean they were locking the main entry doors. It was barely 2:30! I didn't think much of it, but you try to enjoy your coffee and bagel and just, well, relax, when this kid is stacking the other tables' chairs upside down around you! It was like being asked to leave a party early. I mean I get it: y'all are tired and are in search of an exit, but the business still had another 30 minutes to serve customers. There were still plenty of bagels, too. So here I present to you a photo ---which was a total lie---that I have to believe they put up when this kind of thing happens: it says they're sold out! Of what? Drinks? Juices? Nope, there were plenty. There were little vats of cream cheese. Different kinds of bagels too. Was in the area around the lunchtime on a Saturday and it is a very popular area and the lines seems to be out the door. They take the orders one by one and then make it, which is why it takes such a long time but it gives you plenty of time to choose with the variety of options they offer. I asked what the most popular bagels with just spread (not without filling) and the worker said it's the Asiago and everything bagel, with garlic and herb cream cheese or with lox spread. I opted to go for the Asiago with lox spread. I thought it was ok for a basic bagel and spread and it is pretty filling for like a breakfast or to get you through the day. My friends really liked their pesto bagels and they enjoyed their bagel sandwiches that had more filling in it, as opposed to just cream cheese. If I were to go back for breakfast or a lighter meal/snack I would try the everything bagel with garlic and herb. But if I were more hungry then I would try their Lox sandwich opens that comes with tomatoes, capers, and onions. I also ordered a white chocolate mocha and it was just like any other. They have plenty options of drinks to choose from a refrigerator too. Along with purchasing sides of cream cheeses. On entering, the shop smelled delicious and the ambience was cozy and welcoming with indoor/outdoor seating. It appeared to be a popular spot on a Sunday morning; the service was efficient and friendly. As we had hoped, the bagels here tasted as good as they smelled. We ordered the #8 Eggwich Club with bacon & cheddar on a pesto bagel - yum! We also ordered an egg bagel with strawberry cream cheese - also yum though I prefer a thicker consistency for cream cheese. As someone who is a bit obsessed with egg bagels I was pleased to find them among the nice selection of bagels! While I wouldn't go as far to say these bagels are comparable to the best NY bagels I've had, this place is a winner and we will definitely be back. Looking forward to trying the lox! read more

Pass on this place. I love a good bagel with lox, and for some reason I was craving it today for lunch. Saw the good yelp reviews so I went here since it's in the general area of where I'm working. Bagel was light and airy, with a crisp exterior, but the amount of spread they put on it is a total joke! $5 for maybe 1 tablespoon of cream cheese total?! And the lox spread barely had any lox flavor. I would have told them to remake it if I wasn't in a hurry to leave. If you are looking to buy just a bag of plain bagels, the bagel was good, but hard pass on anything else. So greatly disappointed. My favorite bagel spot in Alameda. Sliced Nova Lox on a spinach asiago bagel is my go to. I've also had their pizza bagels which were really good. Brandon (@brandonchen7 on IG) is also an awesome artist who has art displayed in the cafe and sells stickers of some of his pieces.
