We love Levy Park! We've got twin 3 year olds & there is so much for them to do here. There is an activity area with a large Connect 4, & an arts cart, games cart & a mini library closer to the road. The arts cart is always well organized & supplies are full. I'm usually here during the week though so I'm sure it might not be the case on the weekends. There is a large grassy area in front of the stage & is perfect for picnics! They have a good amount of seating & chairs, but bring your own if you want to have a sure thing. In the enclosed area there is a hill which leads to a wide slide. There's also a splash pad (open in the warmer months) so be prepared for the kids to get soaked! I put mine in swim gear & bring a change of clothes. Also in this area are tunnels, mounds for climbing, an interactive music feature, & other various things for the kids too play on, including a climbing gym. There is another open grassy area where they have jumbo blue blocks for the kids to build with. On this side is also a ping pong table, foosball, & mini golf. For the dog lovers there's also a little dog park which looks nice (I don't have a dog so can't comment further). On the weekends there are usually food trucks parked nearby so if you don't feel line packing a picnic just pick one up! There are also 2 restaurants being built on the park which look almost complete called Woodshed Smokehouse & Love Shack Burgers which are projects of Chef Tim Lowe from Fort Worth. If you do come here on the weekend & can't find street parking there is a parking garage that is very reasonably priced. Don't waste your time driving around & park there. Thanks for reading my review. Have fun! read more

The small-ish park is a hidden gem inside the loop. The park is really family friendly with lots of activities for children and adults alike (playground, large blocks, table tennis, foosball) There are lots of green spots where you can throw around a ball or spread out a picnic blanket and just chill. And most importantly, there are pretty clean bathrooms that are open to the public. Nothing worse than having to leave the park early cause nature calls and there's no where to go. There's plenty of street parking around the park. Most of it is parallel, so hopefully that's something in your repertoire. The Slowpokes Coffee shop is right at the edge of the park, so you can swing by to grab something if you'd a snack or a drink during your time at the park. There's also a BBQ spot - haven't had it so can't really speak to how great it is; just another option. Another option is the Love Shack which serves fries and other concession type foods (I think...lol) There is a security guard that patrols the park. Most of the different individuals filling the role I met were pretty friendly. The park also has plenty of lights which is a cool sight in the evenings should you choose to hangout there after the sun is down. Always an option, and parking will be way easier. And of course, it'll be way cooler in the summers. Bonus: If you'd like to be on the grass, may want to bring a picnic blanket since lawn chairs aren't allowed (I think). If I'm off-base on this let me know. read more

This was my first time coming to this park (for a holiday market), and it was beautiful. They had lots of green space and many tables with chairs in different areas of the park. There was also a place where you could buy lunch, drinks, and even ice cream (though the ice cream machine was down when we were there). We enjoyed some hot dogs and the seating, as well as walking around the holiday market that was there that day. There was also a Santa statue that we took pictures with. There is also a little dog park area, which we didn't go to, but they had sections for small and large dogs. read more

This park is so, so cool and VERY kiddo friendly. I brought my kids here for a romp with some friends and we had a splendid time. Here are some of the things they loved to play with: 1. "Treehouse" path- the faux treehouse path circles several trees and gives you a great aerial view of the park! 2. Rock wall- the rock wall here is superb to climb on. My kiddo loved scaling this thing by herself. 3. Slide- the slide is made of what looks like stained concrete so be careful! 4. Tunnels- lots of tunnels here for kids to explore! 5. Musical hopscotch- the hopscotch design in the floor is so clever because it plays music. Fun!! I will be back! Parking can be a pain. read more

This park is beautiful and fun for the whole family! I'd say kids and adults can get a good workout in on the playground or running around, tossing frisbees or footballs in the open space! It's always bustling with people and even their pets. I have also noticed that businesses frequent this area too promoting animal products. The play areas are all well cared for, there's a splash pad here for the kiddos, super cool. Another feature I do adore is the ability to book an area for an outdoor party here, makes sense to book as it gets busy and the Park officials make sure to hang signage and rope off areas for private parties. Free parking is not for the faint of heart if you come for an event or on a weekend but there is a garage where you can park for like $5 and cross the small street to walk across to the park. Plenty of outdoor chairs and tables available in sitting areas, but you can bring your own folding chairs if that better suits you! ENJOY!!! read more

Not much of a dog park... but if you have kids it's a great place!! Dog park consists of two little bump hills with fake grass only on the hills. And inside the gate smells like piss- you can smell the aroma since there is no real grounds to soak it into the earth. Don't waste your time city dogs deserve bigger & better. read more

Beware of Levy Park Houston Absolutely horrible experience today. I chose to hang out a Levy park today to read and hold a conference call for work while my dad was at the medical center for a procedure. I knew it was a safe space and had a clean restroom. I parked and went into the park to use the restroom. After I exited, I noticed the coffee shop in the park, so decided to grab a coffee. After I had purchased my coffee, I walked into the park to find a chair to enjoy my morning. I read and then held a call. At 9:30 when my call was done I walked to my car and it was gone. The Operation manager towed my car. This is not a welcoming environment. BEWARE, do not support the businesses in the park because you might get towed. $300 for a coffee after all the fees I incurred. The director was apathetic to my experience. I was in the park while my car was being towed!! I will never come back here again! read more

Do not for any reason leave the park. Not to get coffee or anything. Even if you come back. You will get towed. Went to get slow pokes. Came back to the park to study. An hour and a half later, my car was towed. Horrible management. No attempt to make amends. They don't care. Spoke to the desk at Kirby Grove and said the problem is the security guard, Laundermilk. Seems to be a trend from what they've noticed read more

This is actually a nice size park that caters to kidd (and dogs). I take my kids here often because they also offer a variety of activities for kiddos! If your kid likes games they offer board and card games. If your child likes to draw they have chalk available for them to draw on the sidewalk. If your child loves to read around the corner are a variety of children's books (and books and magazines for adults to enjoy as well) They have a mini size golf area, a ping pong table, huge Styrofoam blocks for kids to play and build with. There's a splash pad for kids to cool down in this Houston heat. Just so many different activities to choose from that'll keep your kids busy for a few hours. Be mindful people bring their dogs to this park as well (there's a dog play area nearby) Parking can sometimes be a hassle to find but I always park behind the restaurant (or what was the restaurant it looks to be closed down when we visited today). I wish there were more food trucks. I've been to Levy Park several times and today was the only time I saw food trucks (actually there were only 2 trucks out that looked to both be selling ice cream) Overall this is a great park for kids! read more

They need a small dog park and a medium dog park and make the empty field a large dog park. And not allow pit bulls. I've had people tell me that my mini labradoodles who weigh 25 lbs were too big for small dog park. Lots of bosses in dog park. So I went today and there was a giant pit bull in small dog park ‍ read more

Probably the nicest, cleanest dog park in Houston. Small dog side was very relaxed and I felt safe with my dog there. Can't say the same for the large dog side, which seemed to have fights breaking out every 5 minutes Your mileage may vary of course. Most people aren't as smart as they think they are about dog behavior and either overreact to minor things or ignore serious issues. You kind of have to be prepared to deal with resource guarding dogs, same-sex aggressive dogs, socially inept & pushy dogs, etc. Trust your gut instinct and if you feel uncomfortable with a dog there, just leave peacefully and don't risk it. Oh and please actually keep an eye on your dog(s). And keep your BABIES & KIDS out of the DOG park. Not all dogs like kids and don't assume a small dog can't hurt a child! read more

What an amazing park for families with kids. We happened upon Levy Park after recommendations from some of our local friends and marveled at how cool this space was. In addition to interesting play structures (a rock climbing slope for the kiddos, a chime/bell jumping floor), there was both an art cart and game cart with boxes and boxes of activity sheets, coloring pages, art supplies, toys/games that were free to borrow and use. There were plenty of tables and chairs to sit on (including 3 year old sized ones) and even tape to tape down the activity sheet on the table so that it didn't fly away with the wind. read more

This is a hidden gem that I never knew existed the many years I've lived here. It's such a spacious place that's very family-, dog-, and hangout-friendly. There are creative structures for kids to climb, a fenced off dog park, sitting area with ping pong tables, and a small shop that sells burgers, pizza, and ice cream. The trees are neatly trimmed, and the area is very clean. It's a good place to relax and to get away from the busyness of life. It's all street parking, so it may be hard to find a spot especially on weekends. read more

After indulging in tasty tacos and drinks at Gaspachos, we strolled to Levy Park, a cherished spot for my (at the time) girlfriend, her mom, and the kids. Their favorite for years, it turned out to be a blast for me too! The park offered endless activities - building blocks, Connect 4, chasing the kids, sliding down slides, running through tunnels, and when night fell, magical balloon lights illuminated the trees. Packed with families and kids, it was a whirlwind of fun and unforgettable memories. Exhausted but filled with joy, it's the perfect park for families seeking a wild and loose adventure! ‍‍‍ read more

Love the landscaping, great location, everything is clean except the dog park. The smell of ammonia can be overwhelming.

This is a really great park with a lot of things to do/see and activities, especially for the kids....although the kids play area is currently closed due to COVID-19. On the NW corner is Love Shack, which is a food stand that originated in the Ft Worth stockyards. I always go for their draft root beer, but their burgers are pretty good too. On the opposite SE corner is Woodshed Smokehouse and Park Bar. On the NE corner is an old London double-decker bus that houses Side Dough, a coffee and taco quick-serve eatery. All three are owned by Tim Love. On my visit, the first two were open but Side Dough was closed and had a sticker on the window from the City of Houston. Apparently they were operating without a necessary permit. There were no food trucks along the street, but that's understandable currently since not a lot of people were going outside. read more

Awesome family friendly park in the river oaks neighborhood! There's chairs and tables available, grassy space, and some built up play areas for kids. There are a few game options like cornhole and connect 4. There is also a great fenced off lease dog park- it's not as large as the one at buffalo bayou but this one is mostly fake grass and concrete so there's no sandy or dust clouds, which is a huge plus. Bathrooms are also available in the park and they're very clean. Street parking is available if you're able to get it- came on a weekday morning and didn't have an issue. This is a really great place to bring friends, fam, and pups! read more

So many fun free classes, great okayscape and 2 small but clean dog parks make this such a neighborhood gem!

Note: it appears most of the reviews for this spot are old and referring to what the park *used* to be. I was lucky to visit soon after their fresh face lift. This park is what placemaking dreams are made of. SO much thought was given to hitting all demographics and interests. I weaved my way through the park intentionally trying to see all there is to see (nerd alert: I'm into reading placemaking books and following the work of Project for Public Space). I found everything from water features and an art cart to plush green spaces, a stage, room for food trucks and play areas that are perfect for hosting birthday parties for the kiddos. They also had had plentiful bright green seating (including modern rocking chairs) and tables that were perfect for the stash of board games they offered. During my particular visit they had a bilingual children's show that packed the house. The lawn was filled with kiddos and parents drinking wine on picnic blankets. It was heavenly....I was singing along... read more

Love this spot! I come here to let me sons play and for me to unwind. Has a great dog park and snacking facilities. Bathrooms here are always clean and fresh. Staff are super helpful. Bikes and scooters are not allowed so just FYI. They also do not allow hover boards or anything of the sort. Families that come here are always pleasant. Gone are the days of the OLD Levy Park where you would find baseball fields and if you were were on of us goofball West U/River Oaks/Southampton kid in the 90s.....you parked down Eastside next to the park on the weekends, drinking your mad dog 20/20 or wine coolers. Yep. No more. Here is the newly renovated 25 million (so I hear) park. 180 from what it used to be. Times are a changin I tell you. So here is my take. The park is sectioned off. Go to the website and check out the map. You will also find a list of special events and activities going on daily. Also check out my photos and maybe they will spark some interest. 1) There is ridiculously small dog park, which is sectioned off between a small dog area and large dog area. It got very over crowded. The park is filled with AstroTurf. Limited benches (it's a small area). It's going to be interesting to see what happened when it gets uber hot outside. They have cute fountains that squirt water periodically but if your dog doesn't know how to cool off or drink when the water squirts then you're out of luck. You have leash your dog and to go just outside of the dog area for your dog to get water. Kinda annoying because of the overcrowding of dogs. So bring something to carry water inside. I noticed SEVERAL people leaving their dogs unattended in playing in the park. I did confront one person. Also there is NOT a washing station. 2) The park is a Mecca for KID action! So bring the kids! Lots of activities for the kids. Putting greens/golf, stacking foam objects, huge water tower (bring a towel). Lots of climbing equipment, Lots! Even a rockwell! 3) Loads of chairs and tables for you to relax and enjoy yourself. They are scattered all around the park. Bring a picnic and grab a table or bring a blanket and enjoy a bite to eat on the lawn. 4) Restroom, fountains and concessions are located in the park as well. 5) Large green space where guys were throwing around footballs. 6) I even noticed a garden but did not have time to venture over there. Be sure to check it out. 7) PARKING! Okay, so parking isn't JUST on Eastside or the first parking lot you see. You can also park in between the park and the mid rise next door. There is also another side street on the opposite side of the park. Also there are a couple side streets off of Eastside. I'm excited to try out their free yoga classes which are offered nightly. I hear they will continue as long as people show up. I'm so excited to have yet another gorgeous park in out city. Houston is constantly changing for the better and it's so exciting!! read more

Definitely my favorite park to visit thus far! I love all the variety of activities that it offers. It's not overwhelmingly big and not too small. Just the right size for me & my dog! Speaking of which I absolutely love the pet park there! It's well kept! I love that there's a snack bar near the dog park and then there's the BBQ restaurant Woodshed on the opposite side. Love love Levy park. The park is beautiful, full of different interesting areas for both adults and kids. Some areas are heavily structured areas, especially for little kids, and then there is a large open lawn. I love the combination of structures and open areas. There are clean bathrooms, attendants who are there cleaning the park and arranging the free programming, and plenty of parking in lots and street. The absolute best part for me is the abundance of free programming. The yoga (4x a week) provided by bayou bliss is amazing. There are even yoga mats and blocks along with trained instructors. I've seen Zumba, Bollywood dance class, and kids activities. There are monthly family movie nights. If you haven't experienced Levy park, there's something for everyone! read more

Before Levy Park became what it is now, a delightful urban park in the heart of Upper Kirby area, it used to be a typical inner city park without the modernistic design or a community garden. Now Levy Park is an award winning, open space for the public to see during the day or night time. One of the beauty of going to this park is that you will feel transported to another place, you feel like you're not in Houston even though this is literally in the middle of Houston. The park is divided into different sections, there's an event lawn where they would host various public events there like free film showing. Next to this area is a community garden where there's various of vegetables, herbs, and fruits are grown there for you to see, touch, and smell. This is a great area to get with the nature and see how food is grown. The other side of the event lawn is a pavilion where there's yoga or dance classes being taught there. Right in the middle of the park is the children's park. There's "hills" and slides, various elevation of land for the kids or adults to climb, crawl, and enjoy a more safe, bouncy ground. Then there's also an entrance to a boardwalk that goes around a oak tree and you are able to get a higher elevated view of the park. On the west side of the park is the activity lawn where a large, open green space for you to run, play ball, or even use some of the accommodations like a putt-putt course, table tennis table, foosball table or cornhole. Even at night the paddles and balls are there for you to take and use. Last on the very left side is the dog park for both small or large dogs. One of the beauty about Levy Park is the lights that's installed there and it really lights up the park in the evening. There's so much energy here during the day or night and plenty of parking space for you to just park and walk around at the park. When people feel underwhelmed by some of the public space here in Houston, I would recommend them to check out Levy Park and show them that not all public spaces are boring or run-down. It always give me a smile watching people enjoying outdoors with kids and adults playing with each other and having a great time. read more

I love this park! I made an impromptu visit to this park with my niece and nephew late on a Saturday night. Best. Decision. Ever. The park was clean and had tons of play stations for the kids. Great place to allow kids to burn off extra energy. When we arrived it was crowded but that was fine since there were enough play zones for all the kids to have a good time. The dog park area seemed small, but I thought it was a nice added feature, especially for those who live in that area. Away from the kid zone was a more low key side of the park. This area is more quiet and conducive for a date or some low key family time. There was enough seating around the park for those who just want to sit and take in the ambiance of the city. The lights in the trees were my favorite aspect of the park. They gave the park a magical feel :-) I highly recommend! read more

This is a great place to bring your kids to play. The atmosphere is wonderful. The only downside is parking. There's no parking available.

Awesome park. We have events there after work and the service is always seamless. Highly recommend for your outdoor/park indoor venue needs.

This park is so cool! The scenery is fantastic. Thus it can get super crowded and parking can be a pain in the a$$ I prefer the dog park to be a little more bigger. There's some sprinklers inside the dog park that sometimes it can be on randomly making the dog all excited and confused. Very fun to watch. There's also some food joints around the area and plenty of seatings that you can bring your family and friends here to have a chill afternoon weekend. Would def go back!! read more

Pros: dog park is well kept and nice with fountains and turf so your dog doesn't get muddy. A nice restaurant, Woodshed & love shack, can walk around with alcohol. Cons: no park rules signs, security is WACK, you can't ride bikes, run, have roller blades, lawn furniture, wheelchairs, picnics (without being bothered by security), tie dog leashes to ANY part of the park (IE. tree, chair, etc), can't lean bike against anything (IE wall, bench, tree, chair etc. even if you are eating at the restaurant), can't have tripods, cameras, strollers, anything that will "dent the grass," no glass allowed (obvious), BUT if you're a kid I guess you can run around naked and piss everywhere without question ‍. Basically the only think you can do at this park as an adult is walk. I'm not even kidding. Each security guard will tell you something different and it seems like it's their job to harass the guests. SMH. read more

Great park! We brought our 1 year old out for a birthday party and were really impressed with the place. There's a gated playground area that has a splash pad, hills with concrete tunnel tubes running through it and other various play areas for all ages. A great perk is that the play area has only one entrance so it's easy to keep track of your children. Beyond the playground there are various seating/table options, free art supplies, a field for picnics or sports with plenty of room for all and a walking path that covers the whole park. Another perk I noticed is it appears they have food trucks regularly set up for the weekends and are in the midst of building a brick and mortar restaurant in the corner of the park. They have employees of the park roaming the grounds during regular hours. It's good to have the supervision though they seemed a little intense about rules at times. (Took away another group's balloons) I suppose that keeps a place clean and maintained though. All around fantastic family oriented park with plenty of perks to cover just about anyone's needs. read more
