While our puppies love to swim and run around this park, we had to stop going cause they got sick from the water. The small dog side tends to stay relatively calm but we have a medium sized dog so when we'd go to the large side, chaos would ALWAYS ensue because of pet owners not watching their dogs...

O liked this dog park a lot. It has a pool area for the doggies and the have separates sections for small and big dogs which is is very important to me because my pup is small and gets very intimidated by large dogs. Because of that I can't take her to dog parks that have only one area for all size dogs. Parking if very easy and they have a huge parking lot. You can pull right up to the dog park gates. The park is so big that you can also run the trail if you wanted to or even get a good walking workout while your dog plays.

This dog park is huge and lots of seating for hoomans to sit and watch their fur babies run and play. There is a designated small dog area and large dog area with the large dog area having a really big water feature for the dogs to run into for cooling off or grabbing a drink. Even my dog who is not a fan of water was enjoying the pond. During our visit there were all types of dogs at the park and they all had pretty good behavior. Owners were being responsible and watching over their dogs to make sure nobody was misbehaving or being a bully to smaller dogs. There is also a dog bath station located outside of the dog park enclosure, and your dog will definitely need a bath after a visit here. Between the running and the clay type soil which turns into a mucky glue, the dogs definitely need a rinse off if not a bath. You will need to bring some shampoo and towels and the water is cold from the faucet (which I think is the only bad part of the park). I still give this place 5 stars for the expansiveness of this place. It's huge! Lots of running room to release the energy and zoomies!

Great park albeit pretty messy for the dogs! There are large man-made lakes for the dogs to swim in which are dyed blue--so your pooch may be a different color when he comes out! Overall tons of room for the pups to run and frolic with other dogs. There are bathing stations outside too with large hoses! Just make sure to bring your shampoo!

My dog absolutely LOVES this park. Not only is it separated by small dogs and large dogs, but there's ample space to roam around and there's plenty of seating space for the dog moms and dads. There's also a little pond in both the large and small dog park areas for the pups to jump in and cool of or get a little drink! Love this place and come back time and time again!

Few months ago my dog got attacked by other dog at Danny Jackson Lee Family park. It was the scariest moment of my life, seeing my dog is chocking and passing out while other dog is chocking my poor pup. Owners were not able to calm down their, while I was trying to save my baby. Stitches, medicine, recovery and after care costed almost $600. We been coming to this park for 3 years, but after that happened I would never take my pup to this park ever again.

This is the large parking lot for the dog park - wedged between the dog park and a parking structure for an office park type area.

Does one need to presently be a dog owner to review a dog park? I think not. A person just needs to have visited it and done a good job of observing its vibe and what it has. I will get around to learning who the Danny Jackson that this off-leash dog park is named for is. I happened to be in the area, more captivated by the strobe light atop the 64-story Williams Tower, and saw these canines running around behind this large rectangular chain link fenced area. I investigated further. The park like area inside Danny Jackson Dog Park is nice, clean, and has at least one pond. It has a central path that weaves through it, as well as benches (for bipeds) and areas with trellises and gazebos. At certain points along the central path, the trees go over it, almost forming a canopy. The dogs in here are hilarious. There are all kinds and all sizes of dogs. I didn't see much in the way of fighting because the dogs are too busy having fun and making friends. What is funny is how uninhibited the dogs are - either intensely sniffing for those pheromones or going "number 2" while looking at you right in the eye. However, the funniest moment was when I was in the trellis area near the pond, trying to aim the camera on my phone at the pond, the Williams Tower, or both, and I sensed something large lurking behind me. I turned around and it was a goofy and disarming Great Dane. Its owner told me that he's a curious, harmless beast and routinely approaches people to make their acquaintance. Danny Jackson Dog Park is in a prime location. It is close to the Galleria and the Water Wall, but still far enough away that they could plop down a dog park. It is where the Inner Loop (I-610), I-69 (59), and the Westpark Tollway come together. Knowing how to navigate the ramps around here can be messy. It's easier to just know it's at the corner of the frontage road to I-610 and Westpark Drive. Note that it has a huge Texan sized parking lot (behind it, and accessed from a signaled intersection), as well as a separate park for dogs under 20 lbs. and pod like squares with drains in which to wash your canine. Is this going to be 3 stars for D-O-G or 4 stars for P-A-R-K? Given the view of the Williams Tower, which your canine might be oblivious to, I'd say it's a slam dunk for 4 stars.

Bruno approves. The water feature helps the pups cool down in the hot summer weather.

This location is ghetto - right by a busy highway with little to no grass. I will not go back, there are nicer dog parks with grass.

The rating is not with the park or its amenities, rather the dog owners. I have been coming to this park off and on for a few years and it is always the same BS with lazy dog owners! Today, March 23, 2019; I observed an older Caucasian obese woman (grey hair pulled back in a pony tail with oversized sunglasses; yellow teeth; dog looked to be a brown female mini pincher) berating a young lady. The older woman was very upset that the young lady brought treats and the young lady kept telling the old woman's dog to stop jumping on her. Another woman tried to help the young lady, but the older woman started cursing at her too. The older woman was clearly off her meds and was relentless on verbally attacking the young lady. When I observe the commotion, I went to the other side of the park to avoid getting involved in someone else's verbal altercation. I was already having a bad day and wasn't going to look for trouble, when I'm a sleeping tiger. Plus, I over heard others state the older woman is always yelling and fighting at the dog park. A few minutes later, the older woman marches my way to tell me not to tell her dog to stop trying to jump my dog. Her dog was fixated on mine and kept trying to dominate my dog. I allowed my dog time to defend himself and we would walk away from the mini pincher. The pincher just wouldn't give up. When I heard the women start talking, I obviously unleashed all my verbal wrath which made her run off to another area. She eventually retreated to her car. She pretended to call the cops and stay in her car until I left. Ridiculous! Keep in mind we are all going through stuff. I just left my other dog at a hospital for emergency surgery and I was dealing with other stuff. She clearly got the message to BACK the blank off of me with her hateful mouth! F this dog park!! Lazy dog parents are the worst. A dog park is to socialize not to exercise your dog, not for you to sit on a bench and let your dog roam without you watching or correcting it, not to have other dogs discipline your dog, not for you to leave poop everywhere without pick it up, not for aggressive dogs to dominate others or have you children come and play for free with dogs! I will never return here! Ever! F.. this dog park! Too many times, too many chances, too many different times of the day and it's all the same BS!

We LOVE this park!!! A little gem in the middle of the hustle and bustle! The dogs love the swimming pond too!

Ask the Community - Danny Jackson Dog Park

Why are the ponds in most of the dog parks in the area a weird blue/green color?

The dye is part of the additive used to prevent algae blooms.

Does anyone know how often they clean the water in the ponds?

It’s either every Wednesday or every other Wednesday, the grounds crew will completely drain and scour the floor of the ponds. They test the water daily.

When will Houston metro take over this land to build their facilities? Does anyone know what year this is scheduled for?

The Michael Jackson playlist serenading us from the Gaspacho's eatery was nostalgic. On my way to the (super clean!) restroom I I saw that they had a reading room, which made me instantly fall in love! They also have an arts & craft station with materials free to use. There were many families with young kids enjoying the water playground areas. The fact that they have family reservations available lets me know that this park is well aware of its draw and appeal. I've spent countless hours here running and riding my bike. Some days it's a quick evening jog, other days it's a long ride from Eleanor Tinsley Park toward Memorial Park or connecting through the trails to the University of Houston. No matter how many times I come back, it never gets old. The park has been the backdrop for so many of my favorite Houston memories. I came here for Free Press Summer Fest back in the day, Freedom Over Texas fireworks, the Art Car Parade, Pride celebrations, marathons, half marathons, 5Ks, and even the Texas Independence Relay. It's one of those places that feels completely different depending on the day. Sometimes it's quiet and peaceful, and other times it's filled with thousands of people celebrating everything that makes Houston unique. It also reminds me of some of the city's hardest moments. I'll never forget walking down after Hurricane Harvey and seeing the bayou swollen all the way up to Allen Parkway. It was hard to comprehend just how much water had moved through here. Seeing the park recover over time has been a reminder of Houston's resilience. One of my favorite discoveries has been the Buffalo Bayou Park Cistern. It's such a unique experience and a reminder that there's always something new to explore, even after years of visiting the park. What I love most is how connected everything feels. The trails weave through the city with incredible downtown views, public art, green spaces, bridges, and plenty of places to stop and take it all in. Whether you're training for a race, out for a casual walk, riding your bike, or just enjoying the skyline, there's a reason people keep coming back. Buffalo Bayou Park isn't just another park to me. It's where I've made memories, challenged myself, celebrated with the city, and found a place to unwind. Every visit reminds me why I love living in Houston. I already can't wait for my next run, and I hope to see you out there.

There are quite a few manicured grass spots for picnics or to bring a book, as well as shaded areas. I have always felt very safe at this park. A 'not so hidden' gem as parking can be a little tough, but leads to not very busy trails. I never realized how beautiful this park is compared to the days I would only drive by!

As others have mentioned, the dog beach, shaded benches, dog runs, trail, doggy showers, and overall cleanliness of the park are impressive. Additionally most dog parents are as trained as their pups, remaining attentive, and polite. Just be sure to watch the water if your pup is overconfident in their swimming abilities.
