But this one has changed quite a bit. Go figure. Everything does. This park is gated and you only have access if you have the code (given to you by the HOA). Luckily, we caught someone on their was out (how sneaky, right?). This park was pretty busy at 11a on a Friday. But there's so much open space and a few different structures to play on, so it didn't feel crowded. Our boy particularly enjoyed the swing and the rocker horses. The ground is covered in fake grass, which made me feel like I was back in Vegas. Love it.

We went on a warm summer day and it wasn't overly crowded. We spent some time at the kiddie pool with our friend's little one and enjoyed watching them run through the fun water park sculptures. The large pool is lovely. Every hour they make you get out to make sure everyone gets a break and that the little kids all take their bathroom breaks. It's also a great way for parents to make an ending time for kids "When they tell you to get out of the pool, we're heading home". There is a parking lot, but we walked here from our friends house. It makes me want to move to the neighborhood. I would spend most of my free time here if I could!

For both outdoor and indoor activities, this is an incredible option for folks in the community. The space is substantial with a bevy of options that include a skatepark, swimming pool, tennis courts, an enormous children's playground, and lots of room for folks looking to exercise outdoors. It is a pet friendly area and a perfect destination for families, social gatherings, and even special occasions. Parking is abundant all throughout the property. The neighborhood center includes a gym + fitness center (#1), basketball courts, and indoor walking track. There are venue spaces for both adults and children for up to 25 people at no cost. There is also after school enrichment programs for kids, teens, and additional programs for seniors. There are volunteer opportunities and community development programming throughout the year. Because it's still fairly new, the facilities and everything are in good shape. Time will tell if they will be able to maintain it but for now it serves as an ideal resource for folks looking to get active and be a part of the Alief community. You can find anything and everything related to community gatherings here: a skatepark, enormous children's playground, ping pong tables, indoor basketball courts, lifting equipment, lounges, library... the list goes on. I stopped by to finish some remote work in the library. It shares space with a kids enrichment area, so I recommend noise cancelling headphones if you need to focus. It's not as expansive as some of the other libraries, but then again, the Houston Public Library system has set a high bar for itself. The endless list of recreational activities deserves so much praise, but this center offers valuable services as well. I saw countless residents lined up for tax guidance, immigration law, and a clinic for women and children. Alief especially benefits from this establishment as a minority predominant community, with many of its residents living in less privileged conditions. I don't think I've ever seen a public facility this massive. I'm so proud of Alief's local leaders and the City of Houston for making these plans a reality.

It was closed today but there's a concession stand and during the week and they don't allow outside food and drinks (unless it's a privately booked party) so do not bring a cooler of snacks and drinks. Lots of fun for us and the kids, and a great location for a birthday party!

I've never been much of a gym person but after loosing my love for running (I was that actual…read moreperson who ran one marathon and went "yeah this is really terrible") I knew I needed to find a new form of exercise for both my physical health as well as my mental health. Living in the energy corridor I had a lot of different options but I did not want a cookie cutter gym, I wanted somewhere that I could belong, somewhere that I felt the staff would get to know me and not judge me if- and when- I did something wrong. Plus I wanted classes- I LOVE group exercise classes cause I have no idea what to do on my own. So I took my then boyfriend and we went to MAC. We really found it to be a welcoming place. It is not the cheapest around but one thing I have learned is that I would always rather have quality in the things that affect my overall well being. I have made friends at this gym, I have been through Harvey and road construction with this gym and I always felt valued as a member. I've been kept in the loop- they do a fantastic job of hosting different types of events and keeping their social media up to date. And now through what is proving to be one of the most interesting events to happen they continue to show their dedication to members by offering youtube classes and free virtual classes. Every day they are posting and making sure there is something to do and a way to get a workout in even at home. This is far more than a gym but truly also a community and a family.

There was also a bowling alley and it looked like a water slide but it was closed that day. Tennis courts everywhere and pickleball courts too. I didn't see the gym. The food they offered wasn't the greatest for how much they charge but I didn't pay for anything so maybe it was just the food that they provided that was mediocre. We did ask the staff to cook the pizza some more as it was kind of undercooked and doughy and the staff was extremely nice and didn't have a problem helping us out. I spoke to one of the members while I was relaxing in the patio area and he was telling me about all of the events for members that are free with the membership. Really cool place.

After a quick 10 min swim and run to bike area and then for a short run past the giraffes to the indoor track. It was definitely not the typical tennis swim club experience and can see why members would enjoy the large club feeling.

The club features an Olympic-sized swimming pool, a slide, a clubhouse for events, and excellent management. Additionally, it has tennis courts, basketball courts, pickleball courts, and more. Two events we particularly enjoyed were the BBQ Cook-Off and the Chili Cook-Off, both of which were very well attended. The 4th of July celebration is another awesome event. The playground adjacent to the club is also fantastic with lots of equipment for the kids to enjoy. We made many friends and neighbors at swimming team events and club socials, including the wonderful Fourth of July celebrations. I cannot say enough good things about this place. We miss it dearly but know that everyone in the area continues to enjoy it.
