Beautifully landscaped 2 acre playground in Hermann Park. You can find parking if you go early in one of the parking lots and it's a short walk past the Japanese botanical gardens and around the food trucks/carousel into the playground. This is easily the best playground in Houston! We love the way it was designed to maximally use every square inch, including putting play structures and slides on the hills (probably to make all the kids tired going up and down) and having plenty of benches and shade. The indentations/rock climbing handles that are spaced strategically as kids go up and down makes it really easy for the little ones to travel. There is a huge rocket in the middle with tall, medium and short aluminum slides for kids to go down. Then there are playgrounds for kids all shapes and sizes - (even 6-24 months old). Such an amazing playground and we are coming back again! read more

Hermann Park. This is, without a doubt, unequivocally, my favorite place on planet earth. When I am here, I am truly in my happy place. I remember visiting Hermann frequently as a child. I grew up in a small town outside of Houston called Liberty. When I used to come here back then, I would get overwhelmed, intimidated, and even quite anxious. It was just too much for me to take in back then. To paraphrase a line from one of my favorite movies, it felt as if my heart was filling up like a balloon that was about to burst. As I navigated through the earlier stages of my career as a young adult, I eventually moved to Houston in my mid-20's. I immediately gravitated to Hermann like a moth to a flame. I spent so much time here, that I eventually got a place down the road just to be able to walk here whenever I wanted to. I walked here almost daily for many, many years. As I write this sitting in my favorite place on Hermann Park Trail, I am struggling to put into words a succinct description of why I love this place so much. Seems like most of the other reviews that came before this one sum it better than I could put my own experiences in writing. As they say, pictures can be worth a thousand words, so I can only recommend that anyone taking interest in visiting here and using Yelp as their guide to look at some of them. Electric trains are sooooo much slower than the gas powered ones. We came today because the train was free this weekend because of the upgrade to electricity. Having ridden this train over 50 times because my son is addicted to trains. He loves the experience. However, I have to say it just seems like the train is quite a bit slower which made the ride feel obnoxiously butt painfully long. Wooden seats for that long are painful with those bumps! Love HPC, and will continue to ride, but c'mon! Bring the gas powered guys back! read more

Hermann is my favorite park in Houston. It is HUGE and I love that it has everything: biking and walking trails, gardens, green space for bootcamps and yoga meetups, attractions - Miller Outdoor Theatre, the zoo, paddle boats, trains for the kiddos. It is also conveniently connected to the bayou trail which is perfect for longer walk/runs or a bike ride. The views of the medical center are nice especially at sunset. Parking is never an issue unless there is a popular event at Miller. I will say, it does not have the same kind of foot traffic when it is dark (early morning or after sunset). Unlike Memorial Park, Hermann quiets down and will get a lil sus from dusk to dawn. I would not recommend going during this time especially solo. If you want a night or before sunrise workout, go to Memorial. read more

Lovely park with a lot to see and explore. JAPANESE GARDEN: The Japanese Garden is a charming place to wander or sit and muse. RAILROAD: The railroad is really cool, for both kids and adults. The train runs through the entire park so it's a great way to see it all. Catch the train for a few bucks at the Kinder Station (Lake Plaza). You can also get on the train for free at its various stops however if you want the *full* ride, you have to buy a ticket at Kinder Station. This is also where you buy tickets for the pedal boats. GARDENS: The McGovern Centennial Gardens are relatively small but lovely. There is more to see and do here but we only had time for the above activities. PARKING: We parked by the McGovern Centennial Gardens but there are various parking areas. I recommend reviewing a map to decide what your optimal starting point is and trying to find parking nearby. read more

I really appreciate Hermann Park Conservatory because it offers a clean restroom at ALL times:)) No seriously, for the amount of high traffic the Conservator and trails bring, the ladies room is always clean and smells fresh. The Conservatory lawn is well manicured and no fleas nor bugs crowing on a person that just want to sit out in nature and ground oneself with the positive vibes nature offers. Also, the trash is always limited which keeps the bugs away. Parking is plentiful and usually 2-3 food trucks out front, I tell you what the prices are at least 1/3 less of those in Washington D.C. and New York. read more

I am shocked that I am barely doing a review of this amazing place! I've been coming here for years! Probably 30 years since I was a child. Great place to bike, hike, absorb the nature and energy. On a beautiful day parking may be a little tough but don't let that discourage you! This is a must stop if you are a local or in town visiting. This is one of my favorite parks to walk and or bike at. Even though it gets packed you never feel like it's packed because the park is very spacious and designed well. Lots of great breath taking views of nature. If I lived closer I would be here every day. I definitely try to make it here 2-3 times per month if not more. Thee is always something to do and lots of food vendors. If you haven't been to this park I highly recommend stopping by. read more

Lovely park! A must visit place in Houston. It looks a lot like the National Mall in Washington DC. The museum district is right next to the park. Prime location! Right across from the Museum of Natural Sciences and is a quick walk to the statue. The zoo is within the park and Rice University is right across the road too. There is so much to see in Herman Park from Miller Theater to Japanese gardens to open green space to paddle boats to the miniature train. There is easy access to the Houston metro rail line and plenty of walking paths all over the park. It was refreshing to be able to walk around the park and enjoy the greenery. We really enjoyed the Japanese gardens. PROS + expansive park + perfect spot for picnic + lots of space for running or cycling + able to sit by the pond + lots of photo opportunities Highly recommend the train. I spent spending my evening at herman park yesterday and I truly enjoyed myself. Stating with parking it's free! And the parking lot is huge/ connected to the Houston Zoo. There are many outlets you can walk through to access many park events. You are near theatre and bikes. Me and my daughter enjoyed the train ride which did not have long lines at all. It's actually pretty peaceful. We also did the pedal boats. The lines were easy breezy as well. If you want to purchase local ice cream or snow cones you will have to pay cash. There is a mini cafe wire you can use you card. Snacks and drinks are inexpensive including train rides/ pedal boats. Will be retuning worth an outside outing by yourself or with family. read more

You can't visit the zoo without riding the train, especially if you're just big kids like my wife and I. We sat by the conductor and visited with him throughout the ride. You see a good part of Hermann Park and it's a nice break from the zoo walk. read more

A fun staple park in Houston. If you come on the weekend there will be a lot of families and friends hanging out. There are ducks and geese around a large lake. You can rent pedal bikes for the lake if you'd like and it's a fun past time. The Houston Zoo is also nestled into the park. Parking can be very difficult here especially on the weekends so anticipate driving around a little! read more

No no, I didn't have a secret fling with that girl. But I did have a fling with her man! He used to come over and visit me. I used to get butterflies when I saw Her Man Park. One of the most gorgeous places in a lovely, bustling, crazy city known as H-Town. "H" is a big letter in Houston, after all, it's "Hot" and the best park is "Hermann". The man on the horse is pretty spectacular, and there's always some cool stuff (or very hot humid stuff) going on here, lots of attractive joggers, a multi-cultural clientele (if you can call park goers clientele), and generally fun times. read more

Hermann Park is a beautiful area nestled between the med center, museum district, and Rice University where you can come and enjoy some peace and quiet. Yes - it is possible in a metropolitan area as massive as Houston! There are several park areas that make up HPC, including the McGovern Centennial Gardens, the Japanese Gardens, the Reflection Pond, and more. All of the areas are beautiful and within walking distance of each other, so come spend a day exploring the grounds. There are plenty of lots surrounding HPC, so parking shouldn't be an issue. If you enjoy visiting the area, consider volunteering for HPC for a few hours with a group of friends - there are a ton of projects where you can make a direct impact to the beautification and conservation of this special part of Houston. We showed up 15 mins early at friend's and he wasn't home yet. So we explored his neighborhood and found this beautiful park. It was after sunset and saw lots of people walking their dogs. Lots of water fountains in the nice park. Unfortunately, lots of mosquitoes too and we got numerous bites during our short walk. Bring repellents and wear long sleeves! read more

This is a big giant park. With a big lake. It was nice here. There are lot to do here. They have an area for picnic, two big playgrounds for kids, lots of benches, lots of green. The zoo is basically inside this park here. It was a nice breezy walk especially with the lake to cool things down. If you are sweaty how and just lay down and enjoy the day. This is the place to go. Hubby is an avid train lover and a kid at heart, so we decided to come here to ride the train! It is a super cute experience which also allows you to see more of the park. The details: - $3.75 per person for a 15 minute train ride around Hermann Park - You can only buy tickets from the main station - There are two additional stops the train makes where you can get off and then get back on later at no additional cost Of course, we were the only adults there without any small children, but I would say this experience is definitely not just for the little ones (although you should definitely bring them along!) read more

We 4 girls -- 2 moms and 2 daughters-- had a fun outdoors at Hermann Park yesterday. We got a lot of exercise waking through much of the park and doing the paddle boats for half an hour. Our girls paddled, we moms lounged... so THEY got a lot of exercise. Ha ha put those little brats to work We ate yummy food off a food truck (see my other review) and saw lovely botanical gardens along the way to the top of The Mount. We were looking for the Japanese Gardens. Not much to see as the large pagoda was closed still for renovations. Instead we walked through the Arid Garden- home to cacti and succulents. Very cool and spiky! Rose garden was nice, but the roses appeared to be of one type mostly. Not the most impressive. I've seen better rose Gardens in my hometown of Buffalo NY. Delaware Park if you know that one. The views of the nearby city area from top of the Mount were nice. The large lawn in front of the monument and reflecting pool make you feel like you're in downtown Washington DC on the Mall. Only negative: the park could be marked with more signs directing which way to walk on the various paths for getting to the attractions. We felt lost at times. We ended up walking more since we were not certain where to find the Japanese Gardens coming from the paddle boat area. However all in all, this is a very nice city park and fun for a leisurely outing. read more
