It's summertime in houston and we want to be outside. I decided to meet some of my folks at Discovery Green for park after dark. They were having line dancing on Thursday nights in June. I regret not going sooner. The weather was great, a little cooler. Ok no it was still hot but felt ok. There were many vendors and for a free concert and dancing outside, discovery green crosses off a lot of boxes. Check them out if you have never been. There was plenty of seating whether you want to be near the stage or at the tables, they have benches and plenty of green space. Great for kids and ok to bring pets. I parked on the street for no charge since I waited until after 6pm. Check out their schedule of events. Can't go wrong. read more

Excellent park and hangout location for the entire family. I especially enjoy the concert series in March, Sunday evenings. The area isn't very large but centrally situated near entertainment and restaurants. As with most downtown venues, parking can be a challenge and expensive. read more

Located in the middle of downtown HTX, Discovery Green is such a welcome break from the surrounding concrete jungle haha! Lots of well-maintained green space to walk around and hang out. Nearby paid street parking available. 10/10 would recommend! read more

Our family of 9 had the most amazing time at the Houston Pumpkin Festival! The rides, photo ops, and overall vibes were absolutely unmatched, perfect for all ages and such a fun way to kick off the season. The only downside was that most of the food vendors were a bit pricey (except one!), and the hotdog stand was just average. But honestly, that didn't take away from the great experience overall. My family and I were visiting the Convention Center for three days and walked around Discovery Green for our fresh air breaks. On Saturday, there was a festival happening, so it was great seeing how the space is used for community events. There are beautiful pieces of artwork (sculptures) in the space. read more

Brought the kids today to play in the play area and in the water. Love that it's free parking on Sundays and the area is free too. Wasn't a lot of good traffic this morning and lots of space for kids to run around and do things. My kid loves the playground and the water nest thing. Discovery is a family-friendly place which the kids would have a cool experience in the play ground area, make sure to bring a sled or a cardboard box that is flattened for the little turf hilltop where people made it a sliding down the hill experience, the kids loved it. although this is a public place and this is downtown there are some homeless walking around not that is nothing wrong but just be aware of your surroundings. Discovery Green is a cool place in the downtown area of houston after a bite to eat or coming from a show take a nice walk around the park it does have some nice art work / sculptures and the park does have some nice views of some of the buildings in the area. they do have events at times during the summer and holidays to check the website do a quick google search for events at the park. read more

Discovery Green came at the recommendation of one of my Yelp friends as a spot to check out while I was in Houston. I'm not a big nature boy, but do enjoy being outside and walking. Since I was looking to do as much as I could during my time in the city, and the fact that it wasn't too far from my hotel, I decided to check Discovery Green out. DG is essentially a large park in downtown Houston. The first thing I noticed was how clean the park was - they do a good job maintaining the integrity of the surroundings. There are large open spaces of green where you can lounge, and I infer they hold events in this space as well. Along the perimeter, there are walking paths, facilities in case nature calls, and a restaurant. I also noticed a few performers throughout the space, and several works of art on display. I spent a little time walking around the park soaking in the aesthetics. Overall, I had a good time exploring Discovery Green - it's worth a stop here be it for an event or to just enjoy the outdoors. read more

I was able to attend a festival at Discovery Green. The festival was called Igbo festival and it was a nice venue to host a community event. They were able to have a stage a lot of chairs, a lot of vendors and a large number of people in attendance at this time, there was also another Event going on similar to a carnival so this location is great to host large scale events I will recommend having events here outdoor spacious greenery, places for kids to run around hills grass pathways on overall great location to be in attendance. read more

Discovery Green is a great family friendly park! The park is maintained properly and clean -- which is a plus in my book. I love how the park brings the community together for outdoor events such as Jazzy Sundays, concerts, festivals. There are mini shops in the area and they have a play area for kids. Great park right in the middle of downtown Houston. It provided a great way for our kids to cool down on a hot afternoon. They really enjoyed the very large splash pad and shower ring. The playground was fun in the mornings but would get very hot after baking in the sun. A few food trucks parked provided some nice refreshments. Our hotel was just across the street so it offered a nice change of scenery than the hotel pool. The park itself was patrolled often by police and was super clean and well taken care of. It looked like there are a lot of local activities put on by whoever manages the park. Lots of fun stuff coming up on their calendar including concerts, outdoor movies, and outdoor learning opportunities. A great gem for Houstonians who live and travel downtown as well as for those who are visiting the area. read more

I just wanted to say I absolutely love walking through Discovery Green every time I'm in downtown Houston. Usually I'm walking over to the convention center. On top of the gorgeous nature there is always some sort of event going on every time I visit. Music, family's and dogs running around. It's a nice calming walk as I'm about to start a busy day or a nice wind down when I'm done for the day. Always kept clean and nice. Great job! read more

I love Discovery Green. They hold a lot of different events, but also a great place to chill and relax with family and friends. This weekend, we visited for the Korean festival that happens annually. Super fun. The only complaint I have about this place is the location. It's downtown next to the concert venue, hotels, astros stadium, and conference center. When there are multiple events going on, it's hard to find parking and especially at a reasonable price. Downtown street parking, on the other hand, if you can find a spot, is free on Sundays. There are also few homeless people around, but I've seen enough security people around that i didn't feel unsafe. Otherwise, such a cute park and good for family. read more

It was an honor and pleasure to be a chauffeur for Culinary Celebrity Chef's from all around the world that came to Houston Texas for the Southern Smoke Festival Sponsored by Lexus and hosted by Chris Shephard. The Southern Smoke Festival is an annual outdoor food and drink festival in Houston, Texas that raises money for restaurant workers and their families. This year they raised over 1.5 million dollars! The festival features dozens of chefs from across the country cooking up unlimited food and offering drinks, plus wine, spirits, beer, live music, and cooking demonstrations. And I was there to bring you live coverage from an Elite Yelp point of view! The event happens each year and I was invited for a 2nd year and this time I'm writing my review. I picked up 3 separate chefs and their assistants and they not only brought their luggage but they also brought their own grown herbs from their gardens, own meat from their farms, hand picked cattle from their farms of choice, they raised their own cattle and brought the meat and or the seafood from special markets and or countries. TRUE STATEMENT y'all, I know this because they told me or I ear hustled and they got to know each other. Those Culinary Chef's are serious about their crafts! So baby please believe me when I tell you, not only did I taste each flavor the ingredients had to offer each dish but I truly tasted the blood, sweat, tears and care out if each bite. The event started at 4p until 8p at Discovery Green, I showed up at 4:30pm and didn't stop eating until 6:15p...literally! I finally had to sit down for 30 minutes before I started the block walk back to where we were staged for their celebrity outing. Oh sorry, back to MY Limited Edition 2024 LEXUS GX which I drove for the 5 days they were in town. The chefs brought their A-Game along with Mother Nature who blessed the event with perfect weather (Thank You Father God). In my photos you can see each booth offered samples, not just samples but the BEST each chef and their restaurant had to offer. The tickets started at $250 - $10,000 and was well worth the price especially for the cause. I moseyed by several booths that offered meat because I've given it up, however I did capture a few photos to tease you. Did I have a favorite booth/dish? No, there was no setting apart any of the dishes as I have to be honest I sampled each booth about 3 times. YES I SURLY DID and judge me all you like baby because I SURE DID WITH NO SHAME! There was wine and spirits everywhere, I don't drink but I did photo to get you an idea of what I experienced. Yelp limits the number of photos , but you get the idea! I love coming to this park on Tuesdays for the free yoga and sound healing. It's every Tuesday at 6:30 and they have really good music even in the summer it's not so bad because there's a nice breeze and after the summer, downtime looks really cool. Also, Yoga better teaches yoga every single Saturday at 9 AM . The park also has lots of events and activities, so definitely check out the website. I went to international yoga day and I definitely want to start coming here more. I guess they have movie nights, salsa, and other things so that's cool. The park also is really pretty in the summer. They have a lot of plants that attract butterflies as well as milkweed. read more

I have seen Discovery Green surrounded with few buildings with just the Convention Center and Hilton Hotel to multi-mega skyscrapers. They're more coming. I felt bad about a beautiful greenery in the middle of the busy downtown community became the victim of modern urbanization. I came here for a few activities like Lunar New Year Festival, Winter in the Park, Tai Chi in the Park and just waking in the park. I enjoyed the lake (with or without water) and laying on the grass to look up in the sky. Feeling the breeze to relax. Not stumbling into a giant political rally. I guess this park operates with people's interests and many events hosted at the same time. Without warning, I could hear thousands of people cheering at the stage. I had to ask the police officer what's going on. Ok. I'm scram out of here. Parking is not a major problem unless you want to park nearby. I found a place $1.50 a day on Saturday but there was about 10 minutes walk away. Street lights are really not making sense. There are biking only and pedestrian only on top of vehicle with everyone else. If you are driving, you have to wait for both, especially frustrating is there is a stop light right at the roadway construction. I don't come to Discovery Green often enough to make a fuzz about it. Just oh well. I live and learn. read more

Perfect weather once again ...not too crowded tonight...exhibit and different bands run all month. Debated between 4-5 stars. I mean, this is a nice park in the middle of a city. If we lived nearby, I'm sure we would come enjoy the space more. Unfortunately, since we parked in a nearby garage and had to pay to walk around, this "free" 1.5 hour outing actually cost us $17. The area of the park that our kids would have loved was the splash pad area and a new looking playground. I'm sure they do events on the open lawn green area but not today. Public restrooms are open but have a sign stating 4 people at a time. I loved the white stacked tile with gray grout. Haha. I'm a sucker for modern tile. There are a few restaurants in the park but we didn't check them out. Noticed numerous homeless around the grounds. They weren't causing any trouble but just made me feel a little uneasy. Am I an a**hole for saying that? All in all, I think it's a great park just don't know how often we'll be back. read more

When Cowboy Carter released 3.29.24, it felt amazing to hear the album (almost in full) at the skating rink before it closed for the season. I'm glad that me & my group of 6 friends arrived when we did (35 min after the event began) because shortly afterwards the line to get in was extremely long and skate inventory was low (some of us had to size up). I assume it was due to the many pairs of abandoned skates near the rink area that customers could've used had they been returned. Overall, the DJ was highly entertaining and censored, mixing Beyoncé recent albums and later, hip-hop, visitors of all ages and skating levels seemed to be having a good time! Came here for the first time with my family. Cute little park with a lot of things to do. Other than the usual grassy fields and playground, there's a skating rink with a stage playing music, an area where water shoots out of the ground for kids to play at and another part that has water falling from a fixture. There's a little grassy hill where kids are sledding down with pieces of cardboard boxes. There are some lunch or snack wagons in the area and a little café. There are restrooms, benches, and picnic tables available in the area as well. What's nice is there are security guards working in the area so you feel somewhat protected. It's located in the downtown area. Not sure if there's a designated parking lot specifically for this place, but there are pre-paid parking lots and street parking. read more

Discovery Green is our favorite urban park! At approximately 12 acres, it is a good one to spend an hour or two at. Attractions include a small lake (which offers kayaking in the summer and ice skating in the winter), restaurants, plenty of seating, a walking trail, art installation and a calendar of events. Pro tip for parking: parking here can cost an arm and a leg in the garages (~$10 per hour). Metered parking is also available ($2 per hour). Free parking is available in Houston's EaDo district, which is just a short walk to Discovery Green. We usually park near Truckyard and walk under the 59 bridge. read more
