    Japan Festival at Hermann Park
    Bryan V.

One of my favorite parks in Houston. The trails are always clean and well maintained. There's a cute little Japanese garden if you're looking for a zen moment. Decent amount of parking around the area but there's also easy access to the light rail if you want to park further away. Festivals and other events here tend to be a bit chaotic though so come prepared!

First time visiting Herman Park. We went to the Japanese Garden. This place is good for walking, jogging, and photo shoots. Definitely one of the soot must see in Houston.

Haven't been walking at Hermann Park in so long! But now that it's cold, I thought it would be a great idea! My friend and I ended up walking 3 hours here! It's kind of an endless place to walk actually. They've build a playground and a whole other section! If you're looking for a picnic, to walk your dogs or just to get out, this park is the obvious choice.

A beautiful 445 acre city park right across the street from Rice University in Houston, Hermann Park was born when industrialist George H. Hermann in 1914 donated this property to the City of Houston to create a municipal park. Most of the land is used for the Houston Zoo and Hermann Park Golf Course, but there are plenty of other areas in the North end that can be explored for free (including the Miller outdoor amphitheater). It is one of the nicest and largest public parks we've been to, with plenty of walking and biking trails. It also has a lot of dedicated free parking, along with multiple things to do. My wife, nephew (Rice student), and I spent a late Tuesday morning here. We wanted to visit the Japanese gardens but it didn't seem open, even after the 10am opening time advertised. Thus we explored other parts of the park, always looking for shady spots because of the heat and humidity. We did visit the science museum which contains a permanent butterfly exhibit and took a 'kiddie' train ride around the park. One picture area is the Reflection Pool at the North End of the park. It has an obelisk (similar to the Washington Monument and called the Pioneer Memorial Obelisk) and is a great place to hangout in more temperate weather. We saw many instances of different types of ducks walking around the park, extremely tame. I later learned that the ones that have turkey-like heads are called Muscovy ducks and are not native (thus invasive) to the area. We also saw mallards that were common in the area where I grew up. One nice thing is that I don't notice much duck/geese droppings on the walkways or the grass...in the Midwest, this is a big problem (both visibility and sanitary wise).

I visited The Great Elephant Migration Exhibit at Hermann Park. Marvelous and inspiring workmanship!! Before you visit see park maps displaying where they are located. Be prepared to walk the beautiful park. I thoroughly enjoyed the installation and there were so many people visiting as well. A few more days left in Houston. "From Tuesday, April 1, through Wednesday, April 30, The Great Elephant Migration can be experienced at Hermann Park for free during the Park's operating hours of 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. The majority of herd are located in the Park's newest destination, the Commons, with additional pods at the Houston Museum of Natural Science and in the Texas Medical Center. "The Great Elephant Migration is more than an art installation--it is a call to action and a place to experience joy," said Cara Lambright, president & CEO of Hermann Park Conservancy. "By bringing this breathtaking global effort to Hermann Park, we are inviting our community to be part of a worldwide movement to protect ecosystems, eradicate invasive species, and inspire change. These are shared values that span continents."

This is super nice park in Houston. There are all kinds of statues and monuments here including the Sam Houston monument. It's a great place to talk a walk also.

For me, Hermann Park is one of those places that I've passed by so many times, but I haven't been to before now, my 43rd birthday. While not as well known as NYC's Central Park or Chicago's Millennium Park, it's a very fine Houston landmark that I believe is criminally underrated. Do you have relatives coming in from out of town? Do your kids need a place to burn excessive energy? Do you have a milestone event like a wedding or a quinceañera coming up and need an ideal location for a photo shoot? Then Hermann Park it is. My favorite thing about this illustrious green space is the Sam Houston Statue. For as long as I can remember, I have always wanted to check it out up close. And what better day to do so than on my cake day? The best times to come here (seriously) are like during the fall or spring. I was sweating a bit as I walked here on a ninetysomething degree day, but it felt good to scratch an entry off my bucket list.

It's 7pm in the evening and just pleasant enough to hang outside at the park. We decided to take the kids to the park to unwind some of this built up energy. It not too hot but very muggy. But at least the sun is not leaning on our backs. The crowd has settled down a lot because yes school is about to start back for most students. We had a blast with the kids today all the new slides and attractions are incredible. We walked the entire park and the scenery just got better each time. We are gelato and it very tasty.

Cool park. Hot in July and there were parts closed off for the 4th of July festivities. The museum was a nice solace and would recommend the butterfly museum! You can buy tickets there and it's nice that you can just buy them by exhibit or for everything, so a choose your own adventure really Things are pretty much in walking distance and the park is nicely accessible by way of the metro red line

Finally they opened the walking trail from the science museum to memorial hermann hospital. Love that they made parking spots for people to use. The space looks very inviting and the kids will love this new space. The scenery is beautiful and I enjoyed my walk.

Incredible park. 30 mins of pedal boating for $14.50. Free entry. Japanese tea garden had adorable ducklings and turtles. Heard good things about the art museum + zoo nearby. Train circles around the entire park. Wonderful spot to visit alone or with friends / loved ones. Not sure if I have ever been more pleasantly surprised by a park visit. Will definitely visit again next time I am in the area.

Very awesome park with a headless statue of Sam Houston, a mini-version of the Washington Monument in D.C., and a cool Japanese garden (that was closed). Great spot for families and maybe picnics. Definitely a recommended spot to check out of you are in Houston!

I've visited Hermann Park before, and parking is always a bit of a challenge, especially on weekends. This time, we were lucky to catch the final day of *The Great Elephant Migration*, an inspiring exhibit created by The Real Elephant Collective, a community of 200 Indigenous artisans from the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve in Southern India. These talented artists handcrafted 100 life-sized elephant sculptures, each one rich with intricate detail. The exhibit aims to raise awareness and funds for wildlife conservation and promote human-wildlife coexistence. It was the perfect day to take it all in with mild temperatures made for a pleasant walk before the triple-digit heat returns. Grateful for such a beautiful and meaningful experience. I personally find that Hermann Park shares similar elements like open green spaces, statues, and even an obelisk-like structure, giving it a comparable vibe to the National Mall in D.C. However, Hermann Park is smaller in scale and has its own unique features, such as the Miller Outdoor Theatre, Japanese garden and Botanic garden.

When you purchase your ticket online you choose one of the available times, upon entry they give you 30 minutes, the time passed quickly. Be ready if you are taking pictures or better yet, a video. Smart phones work great but you might consider turning off auto focus and just focusing manually if you know how because when it gets dark for a moment and then the lights come on most cameras auto focus has to search for focus so it goes in and out of focus. When you leave, there is a skateboard park up above and worth some time for taking pictures of the acrobatic skating going on.

Here and there, I spotted a delicate cherry blossom and a few early blooms, though I wish I had visited at the peak of flower season. The garden itself is exquisitely designed and every corner seems crafted for peace, and I truly enjoyed the calm atmosphere. It felt like a small escape from the city hustle. That said, I did notice the cleanliness was a bit of an issue; the garden could definitely use some extra care to keep it pristine. Another small drawback was the restroom situation. There are only two available, and both were quite busy, so I ended up waiting a while and eventually decided it wasn't worth it. Still, the park draws a lovely crowd with people come to stroll, reflect, and soak in the beauty. If I'm in Houston again at a better time, I'll absolutely return to see the garden in full bloom. It has so much potential, and with a little more attention to detail, it could be a true hidden gem.
