Our daughter took my husband and I here for my birthday. It kind of reminded me of a small town restaurant appearance with a very friendly staff too. Each of us ordered something different and each thing was so incredibly delicious. We were hard pressed to figure out what to bring home to our son. The food at Leo's was decent, and the service was good. The salsa served with fresh tortilla chips had a nice kick. We also tried the guacamole, which was a little on the bland side. My partner had the chicken enchiladas for his entree. The portion was large and somewhat heavy on the cheese sauce, though the enchiladas themselves were very flavorful. I had the green corn tamales, which had a nice texture, although I was not a fan of the accompanying sauce. The staff was attentive without being overbearing. We would go again if friends chose it, but it would not be our first choice for Mexican food. read more

When you "feel like Mexican food" and want to try a new place, you YELP! I spent 13 minutes scoping out a place not too far away from mid-town, knowing we needed to say away from downtown dinner with the Gem Show in full swing. Nearly every place I checked out that sounded great ended up being too far away or serving breakfast/lunch only. We were SOOO hungry we headed for a well known local-but latrge-restaurant. Since we couldn't get in the parking lot we went on the mission for a meal without a 30 minute plus wait. My wife said, "hey how 'bout that place Leo's next to the strip club?" I did a spit-take (difficult as I was driving and didn't have anything to drink) and said, "GEE HONEY, I have NO idea where the strip club is." After driving past TD's East we Googled Leo's only to find that Tens, uh, the restaurant was just a mile West. What a FIND. After 25 years in Tucson neither of us had been there. It was better than, well, bare boobs. Smallish but plenty of room, lots of tables, lovely atmosphere. The owners were excellent hosts and the food was totally five star. She had flautas, I had cheese enchiladas & ground beef tacos. The beans and rice were perfection and excellent chips. The best local Mexican restaurant in Tucson is Leo's. The restaurant is family owned and run. You feel like you are eating at a family member's home, not a public restaurant. Very relaxing and charming setting. Perfect after getting off of a day at work! The menu options are diverse and all of the food we have ordered so far has been excellent. Delicious margaritas on the rocks as well as a large selection of cervezas. Salsa has a nice kick to it. We've had the carne seca enchiladas, WOW are they good!! The fajitas are excellent as are the tacos. Fresh vegetables, guacamole, sour cream, fresh beans and rice accompany most meals. A lot of times when you go to the larger Mexican restaurants, you get your main entree with a side of "slop" - runny beans, bland rice, etc. Leo's is top quality, fresh ingredients, and tastes delicious. Leo's is the only business to EVER get five stars from this Yelper. My husband was on a road trip through Tucson and he kindly brought be a quart of carne seca. I'm enjoying a meal as I type this review. We live in CA and visit Tucson often. We crave Leo's between visits so there was no way I would have missed out even though I wasn't on this trip. Probably one of the most disappointing Mexican restaurants I've visited in Tucson. Wait, the chips and salsa were good, that's why I gave it one star! We went for lunch and there were a few people there, decent amount of people. But I think there was just the one waitress. There were 3 of us and we all ordered off of the lunch menu. I ordered the chicken fajita salad. Big mistake! The chicken was basically frozen chicken, cooked and diced, added a few vegetables, that's it no flavor whatsoever. My family and I always look forward to dining at Leo's when we are in the Tucson. First of all, leets talk about the margaritas... definitely get a pitcher of the house margarita.....immediately:). Next, you simply can't goo wrong with the food. Most recently, my son got a shredded beef burro. It came with refried beans and rice. I think all combo platters include this. First thing I have to say is that the customer service here is Absolutly amazing!!! Walk in and they are already ready to seat you, they server (Jesus) was great! He was funny and joking and always made sure our glass was full. Me and my girl got some tacos and a few enchiladas which were all really good! We ordered a beer and had to ask for a glass. The menu said red chili or green chili is available. We were told there's no green chili anymore. My burrito plate said in the menu it came with rice and beans. When our server brought our food out, I only had beans. I asked about the rice. She told me the menu was wrong. So I told her that she should have asked which I preferred as I preferred rice to beans. She did bring some rice. Then we had to ask for more chips and salsa. We didn't eat all of the chips. Our server informed us she knew we wouldn't eat the second helping of chips. She was one of the rudest servers we've ever had. The food was ok but not exceptional. We don't recommend this restaurant and we won't be back. read more

I enjoy eating here, the food is good it's family One and family run. Beer is always cold! And they seem genuinely happy to see us every time we come in. That's always a plus! Pretty good Mexican food as far as I'm concerned. I really like the chicken enchilada. And I like that Fish tacos! The location is also pretty convenient not to mention there's a couple cool places to hang out after you're done with your dinner or lunch! The location is charmingly awful and the food isn't memorable. Slightly below the mediocre threshold set by most sit-down Mexican restaurants in Tucson. Beef enchiladas = meh. Veggie burrito = pointless. Chips flowed in copious abundance and the entrees were large, if little else. Might be better if you ordered something more interesting than one of the lunch specials, but Leo's doesn't seem like the kind of place that is hiding talent... they just aren't very good. Leo's could be a sadistic way for women to test their man's loyalty. You can regularly find men gazing out the restaurant windows at women entering the Strip club next door. My favorite fish tacos in Tucson. Simple but delicious. Not greasy batter dipped or soggy grilled. Everything else I've tried here has been great also, but I keep coming back for the fish tacos. Leo's serves some of the dankest Mexican food in town, but you have to know how to go about things. Personally, I'd strongly recommend that first-time visitors make a point of coming during the lunch special hours (something like 11-2), when many of the best items from the dinner menu are offered for under $8 as lunch plates. The house special, "Leo's Enchiladas" are by far and away the best thing you can get - and don't be fooled by the other chicken enchiladas on the menu, they don't include his ridiculously delicious special sauce. Service is usually very good, and occasionally Leo appears to be the only person working at the restaurant, but he somehow pulls it off without leaving tables unattended. Also, some of the best chips and salsa in town. If you can get beyond the fact that you'll be looking out the window at people entering and exiting a strip club, Leo's is worth a shot. read more
