The food is more pricy side but not bad. The quality of food was good. Not enough verity on the specialty rolls. The service was good but not great. Room for improvement. It's definitely a lively restaurant organized into multiple "rooms": the living room, patio, sushi room, but from what I gather the same menu is served in all of them with sushi room perhaps having some additional items. We sat in the "living room" - overall the vibe was pretty lively but quite noisy. Waited about 15 minutes for the menus to show up...and then another 10 for the waitress to just go "ready to order?" No drink menus, no drink order...so then we had to wait another 10 minutes for the drink menus to show up. Interesting cocktails even if the cherry blossom was too tart; but the old-fashioned didn't disappoint. We got the truffle halibut, the ceviche and jalapeño yellowtail - ok - the food has redeemed substandard service. The Ceviche was delicious with the most tender calamari I've had this side of the Mediterranean. Truffle halibut - pricey but came with a really heavy dose of shaved truffles and with a citrusy base it paired quite nicely. The jalapeño yellowtail is pretty much a staple at every sushi restaurant in LA, but the quality of fish and the "sauce" definitely stood out here. For mains we had the branzino and the pork chop. The fish was delicious even if plated on a slightly small plate with a forgettable side of mash and asparagus. The pork chop was wonderfully tender, moist and cooked to perfection. Truly one of the best ones I've eve had...again with same forgettable mash and asparagus. So - overall the food is wonderful: imaginative, flavorful, but could use some refinement on the presentation side and variety of sides that go with the protein. Service - rushed, impersonal, lacking attention - perhaps some training in basic bedside manners and service. Finally the bill: I'm OK spending good money on good food. I don't remember how much the bill was, but probably around $300 with a bottle of sake and a few cocktails. What totally rubbed me the wrong way was the gratuity choices presented on the POS device: 30%, 25%, 20%. Really? 30% tip as default top choice? For what I just described? Nah. Sure, there is a choice to enter your own amount which is what I did - a healthy 18% for a truly substandard service but I've been conditioned that anything below is being cheap. I'd love to come back for the food and stay for service. Perhaps by then Leona's will get their service kinks worked out. read more

We came for NYE and had the most amazing experience. The sushi chefs even brought out a complimentary veggie ceviche for us to try. We ordered the yellow tail cut roll, the tempura corn, and the blue crab croquette. As well as salmon sushi and snow crab sushi. I had read the EaterLA article about this new place and tried it out last night. First of all - it is absolutely beautiful. They have three distinct areas, each with its own feel. Beautifully decorated and fabulous ambiance. We sat in the sushi room and had one of their Omakase options. We are true sushi snobs and have eaten at all the best sushi places in the valley. We have a few we frequent. I can honestly say that this was the best sushi we've had in quite a while. The service was friendly. The drinks were delicious. We joked that we are going to come back every day. While I wish we had the time and money to come every day, I can certainly promise that we will be back - and often. It has only been open for a month, so I don't think it has been fully discovered yet. Go now before everyone discovers this place and reservations become hard to get! read more

We sat at the sushi bar and had the premium omakase for $160 per person. The quality of the food and presentation were simply outstanding and well worth the price. The Uni from Santa Barbara and Toro from Spain were the real standouts. Probably the best I've ever had, and I've eaten at some really nice sushi restaurants. The Toro melted in my mouth like butter, it was truly amazing. Halibut with shaved truffles was to die for. There wasn't a single course I didn't like, everything was great, including the cold sake that our server recommended. The restaurant is brand new, it opened just a month ago, so it was easy to get a reservation and there were many open seats. I am sure as the word of mouth gets around, that will change. The restaurant decor is lovely and they had some music playing (not very loud), which was nice. Valet parking was $10. read more

My boyfriend and I came here for omakase, and every dish was amazing. The chef explained every dish to us and made sure to check in on us every now and then. The sushi bar is in its own room separate from the restaurant, so it was very private and intimate. Would 100% come back for more omakase. read more

As others have mentioned, the vibe is "lively" (noisy), especially the Living Room. Which is OK for a bad area but would be much better if some noise suppression added. We ate at the sushi bar and the staff, drinks and food were amazing. We look forward to going back soon. read more

Best restaurant in Studio City ... and Sherman Oaks for that matter. It's a fusion of Japanese and Latin cuisines, amazing spicy tuna and salmon roll, so says my wife. I'm vegan and so I found the mushrooms with a hi t of caramel i think, and corn tempura and cut veg rolls to be very tasty. Cocktails are creative and first class. I came in last weekend with my boyfriend and we had one of the best meals we've had in a long time. We started with the yellowtail jalapeño sashimi which was amazing. The cocktails were so good (I had the toki remedy and my boyfriend had the Leona's old fashioned) we continued with a sake (can't remember the name but our server gave us an amazing recommendation on it!). We asked our waitress simple questions about the menu & her response to everything was "It's so good." but had zero knowledge of how things were prepared or how to pronounce certain items. We inquired about the Japanese tacos & she proceeded to say "They're tacos." The restaurant is way too dark to see your menu. The food was yummy, A little over priced for specialty sushi. The flavors were pretty good though. What got me was one of the younger hosts/waitress, she young and brunette. She was kind of snotty and rude to our party. You can definitely tell in her mannerisms that she didn't want to serve us. Telling us we couldn't order some stuff bc they closed the kitchen (which they didn't). She also kept trying to kick us out by waiting and walking back and forth by our table to get the bill. Asking if we're ready to pay, like hello be patient and let us take our time. Didn't like the feeling of being rushed by her. But the manager or owner, if it's an older man, super sweet and lovely to us! Would go back for him and the food but not her. read more

The drinks were really watered down, the food was overpriced and not particularly tasty, and the pacing of the dishes was nonexistent. We also felt rushed by other staff who were constantly clearing plates we weren't finished with [we spent a total of 35 minutes at our table from the time we sat down to the time we stood up]. There was a small issue at the beginning of my meal this evening, which I gently brought to the attention of the owner. He was incredibly receptive to the feedback and went truly above and beyond to make things right. I have long been a fan of the restaurant (as both La Loggia and now Leona's ) and am even more of a fan after tonight's experience. I eat out 7 nights a week so I have a pretty high bar, and Leona's delivers on every measure from food to service to a beautiful setting. We had a very yummy dinner on a Monday night. The service was wonderful. Our waiter and the hostess were so accommodating. We got a tour of the whole place. The inside is stunning. The food was AMAZING. They ruined edamame for us. We won't be able to eat it anywhere else now. We don't know what kind they use, but it tasted so much better than any other edamame we had ever eaten. The miso cod was perfectly cooked and the portion was much larger than other restaurants. The banana dessert was so good. Oh and we highly recommend the bao buns. We plan on being regulars from now on! read more
