I used Grok and Yelp to find a kid-friendly restaurant offering up excellent sushi and bento boxes for dinner. Teru Sushi was the top hit and I booked it for dinner for a party of 5. Best of all, Teru was walking distance from my sister and bro-in-law's place, which is fortunate since street parking is tricky. Teru is a modern, trendy restaurant playing classic pop music with an intimate setting. A line of happy sushi chefs greet customers coming and going in the front. its funny since from the outside, the restaurant looks so unassuming from the street level. The food was excellent and I give 5-stars for the hot entrees like chicken teriyaki (5 stars) and the miso black cod appetizer (4 stars). Wife felt the miso was a bit too heavily sauced but I liked the rich flavors. We replaced the default rice with sushi rice and the sticky texture and vinegary flavor was well worth it. The Brussels sprouts and mushroom appetizer was also full of umami (4 stars). I got their nigiri combo with spicy tuna roll. Very good with fresh fish toppings (4 stars). I did not see an omakase option on the menu, but maybe that's off menu when price is not an issue. It turns out there is this small stretch in Ventura Blvd that has lots of sushi places, one that supposedly offers $400/person omakase. read more

i was frankly disappointed with the food and service here! the sushi was too chewy and the rice was overcooked. the yellow tail with jalapeño was way too spicy. the rolls in the menu have no variation. the servers also don't seem to care and ours rushed through every interaction. there are sooo many better sushi spots in this area and in LA overall. skip this one parking is also not accessible. such a shame for a nice restaurant! read more

I've been coming to this restaurant for over 10 years, and the food has always been consistently amazing -- which makes this review especially disappointing to write. Unfortunately, the service during our most recent visit completely missed the mark. We were seated in the patio and, for the first 20 minutes, our waiter (a tall, bald gentleman) never came to take our order. During that time, he was visibly occupied taking shots and socializing with a group of women at another table. We eventually had to ask another server to take our order and that's when he called our server to attend to our table. After our food arrived, we tried to order additional drinks, but they never came, because again, our waiter was busy chatting and taking shots with the same party instead of attending to his section and forgot. At that point, we were both frustrated and disappointed. To make matters worse, I had noted in the reservation that we were celebrating a birthday, and it was never acknowledged. We ultimately had to flag down another server just to get our check. The food remains excellent, but the level of service we experienced was unprofessional and inattentive -- especially for a place we've supported for over a decade. I truly hope management addresses this, because the restaurant deserves service that matches the quality of its food, not a server taking shots and forgetting to do his job. read more

We ordered the yellowtail belly with uni and truffle (from the special menu), twilight roll, and dragon roll. The flavors of each were so complex yet complementary; I've never had truffle with sushi before, but it works! Our server Nomi was stellar, attentive even though dinner service was quite busy on a Sunday. Her colleague (didn't catch her name) also always made sure our water glasses were filled! The restaurant has several sushi chefs behind the counter, so you aren't kept waiting long for your order. Finally, I felt the pricing was very fair for the quality of the rolls served - yet another incentive to come back and try more! Came here for dinner during the week and it was busy. We started with spicy tuna rice cakes, garlic edamame, and shrimp & vegetable tempura. Our friend Christina Pope took us out for another stellar meal. This time it was Teru Sushi. Ambience was great as we were seated in the back garden area. It was a bit hot back there with the only drawback being a fly who decided to go for a swim in the gyoza dipping sauce, otherwise a great dining experience. Our server Josh was extremely attentive and did a wonderful job making sure everyone was taken care of and satisfied with our selections. The food was very good and well plated. Dinner date night at Teru Sushi was an absolutely wonderful experience! I loved the little entry walkway just outside that gives the feeling you've been transported away from Ventura Blvd with the relaxing little bench, pond, and other decor. The hostess inside was warm, welcoming, and had us seated immediately. Service from the waitress was also very quick and attentive with making sure we had any items or refills as needed. On to the sushi!! There were so many appealing sounding options from the creative menu names and accompanying descriptions, but we ended up going with the Sushi Combination, 'Studio City' rolls, and some Spicy Tuna Rice Cakes. For drinks, we did a Strawberry Nigori Sake, which was a deliciously light and fruity accompaniment to all our sushi! I loved everything we ordered, and also found the portions quite generous, with both of us being left very full. A few notes: For the Sushi Combination, I loved that it came with a little side of miso soup. Relaxing and soothing, miso soup is always a must for me at Japanese restaurants! Also, a lot of the sushi for the sushi combination plate had a bit of wasabi on them...that wasn't an issue to me, but if you're someone who doesn't care for wasabi, such as my partner, that may bother you a bit. The 'Studio City' rolls were definite highlights of the meal for the both of us - FULL of salmon, cream cheese, avocado, tempura batter, spicy mayo, AND more....it all went together surprisingly well and was an amazing fusion of flavor, creaminess, & slight heat that ended up working perfectly! Teru Sushi is a must try! The ambiance is very intimate and the outside seating area has pretty scenery with foliage and a fish pond. I really appreciated their complimentary cucumber water and their soft spicy tuna rice! Has got to be one of the best! My favorite roll was the OMG Roll. Because OMG -- the truffle is everything! The restaurant itself has an intimate vibe - good for a casual dinner but also for celebrations or a girls night out. The food is melt in your mouth delicious - be adventurous here and try something new, the menu is large and everything is incredibly well balanced. While I appreciate efficiency, it felt a bit rushed but they weren't busy. We ordered the Albacore Crispy Onion Sashimi, which was my favorite dish of the night. However, in the center, there were some small leftover pieces stacked up that didn't look very appetizing. There is valet parking which is great and also there is parking on ventura if you get lucky. Overall i was very satisfied; 10 out of 10. When I checked in I got a free sale offer so we started with that. We ordered a 911 roll, OMG roll, lemon roll and a kanpachi carpaccio.
