I should have looked further down in the reviews before coming here. Like other women have mentioned, if you're a female, it might be better to go elsewhere. It was very uncomfortable trying my dress on at his shop - his fitting room is just a curtain and I noticed that he did not close it fully on the side that had a mirror on the wall. Then while I was dressing I saw him across the room watching me through the mirror... All while my fiance was sitting there. He was not very nice either. When we walked in he just stared at us, no greeting. Then when a different person walked in, they got a much friendlier interaction. Not sure why we got such a different experience than everyone else. Should I mention I'm Asian? It took about a month to tailor my dress shorter. The cost was $75. Idk if he accepts card, but he specifically asked for cash. He set my pickup date a couple days before I needed it and never called me to pick it up. When I went in asking for it, he looked very confused but eventually found my dress. When I tried on the dress at home, it was very clearly uneven. I could see one foot peeking out more than the other. Looks alright when I'm moving around, but this quality of work is just not ok. read more

I am a 28 year old woman and am surprised by the previous negative reviews. I have seen Leon many times and do not find him creepy. He speaks broken English & is an older man in his 60's I suspect, he has his querks, but I think this is more his background and age. He has fixed many things perfectly, charges less than he should & is a very kind man. The cobbler in the back is also fantastic! I couldn't recommend them both anymore. I wouldn't recommend this place if you're genuinely looking for good customer service. The only older tall male in the front with silver hair wouldn't even answer any of my questions or wasn't really interested in helping me while another customer spent time changing their garments in the private area. He didn't even inquire as to why I visited his shop. He said "just wait here until they are finished". It seemed that he was unable to help me while he had about 15/20 minutes of idle time while the other customer finished up in the private curtain area. I am a person of color by the way, so maybe he felt uncomfortable helping someone of a different race? He then kept telling me I said I had a "jacket" and fussed for about 10 minutes about hearing the word "jacket" and not dress. This was odd seeing as I held both dresses up so he can fully see that they were dresses but he insisted it was a jacket. He actually kept asking me about a "jacket" and even mentioned if I wanted to turn my dress into a "jacket". I was quite taken aback but just smiled and walked down to Sammy's Cleaners just about a 5-minute walk away. The customer service there was much better. Hope this helps! read more

I was worried about finding someone to to the alterations right now and with a quick turnaround, but Leon was wonderful! We went in and he was able to quickly assess our needs, let us know our options, and said he could have them both done in under a week! He completed the job a day early and let us know they were ready to pick up. When I went in, not only was everything ready to go, but he went above and beyond and had created masks from the spare material that match our outfits! Such a nice touch. I live in LIC & took two garments for alterations to Leon's; I was very happy with both. I paid in full when i dropped off the garments, and there was minimal contact at pickup. I will echo reviews from others I've seen here. If you are female, and ESPECIALLY if you are a single female, DO NOT go here! Run FAR AWAY from Leonalterations! Leon was incredibly creepy and inappropriate throughout my experience here. I got a normal fitting for 6 clothing items and we made light conversation, and as I was checking out he said I "seemed beautiful" and asked if he could see me without my mask. I took it off and then he WHISPERED IN MY EAR how "beautiful" he thought I was. He then also texted me a few times outside the shop hours asking me about my day and was very clearly flirting with me. He also touched my hair a few times as we spoke during another pickup and asked if I was married. My jacket tailoring was also totally wrong, he'd added a taper to it that entirely changed the silhouette, when I'd asked for a simple size-down. These clothes are for a photoshoot so this rendered the jacket unusable. But he insisted I'd look "beautiful" in it. I took my friend with me to pick up the rest of my cancelled order because I was afraid of being alone with him. I think we really take these mundane drop-off-pick-up errands for granted. It takes skill and talent for this kind of job. May I even call this an art? Well, that's the kind of quality work that Leon puts in. I've used him for a couple of jobs and I'm honestly amazed by his work. When he returns your jacket, blazer or whatever article of clothing you needed to be changed, it's difficult to spot where the alterations were made. That's how you know it's good. The best. I needed a bridesmaids dress hemmed on extremely short notice and couldn't find a single other place that would do it in time- but he said it was no problem. The straps on this dress were also a bit too long for me, but I was going to just deal with that. I didn't want to ask for another alteration on a rush job. But when I tried on the dress, he noticed the straps and said he was going to fix them too. I brought in the dress on a Monday, and needed it by Wednesday- he texted me on Tuesday to tell me he was already done! Did a great job at a great price too. I'll never go anywhere else! read more

Needlessly handsy and made me feel uncomfortable. I grew up dancing and have had many costume fittings in my life. I understand that to be fit with clothing the tailor needs to touch you, and that doesn't weird me out in general at all. But there's no reason for this guy to grab a gown woman by the hips to move her around, and it's definitely inappropriate to slide your hands across her body to move her again. All you have to do is say, please turn to your left, etc. Seeing now the other two women here who posted, yikes! Yes the clothes are fine, but very bad vibes from this guy. This is going to be a long review, but feels necessary since this man has tailored almost every clothing item in my closet... A few years ago I was determined to make my entire wardrobe wearable - Donate clothes that didn't work anymore, or alter them if I wanted to keep them. Over forty tailored items later I literally love *everything* in my closet thanks to Leon. I have brought him everything from ripped shirts w/missing buttons, items too big & too small to belts, vests and even random things like curtains that needed repair. He's humored me with some "creative clothing projects" I've had - making unconventional alterations at my request - and has also found creative solutions to some of my favorite items that I didn't think were salvageable. Every single time I get back an extremely high-quality, no-shortcuts job that looks amazing. Leon has turned down jobs that could be solved without altering (and even showed me how to do it) &, if I wasn't 100% happy with the job, he's gone back and adjusted it until I was happy. I am a Greenpoint local and consider myself fortunate to have Leon nearby. Leon is a super nice person and as all the reviewers state, Leon is very precise and works really fast, to the point that my schedule is not fast enough to be available for pickup. He works out of his apartment so there is no store front, and I have to schedule when I want to come by for pickups. I'm so glad I found Leon. He is in such a convenient location in Greenpoint and has a lovely, clean, and well lit apartment -- great for seeing all the finished details.
