Many others in reviews of this place have complained about the poor table service and I urge you to take them seriously. It is REALLY BAD. Food wasn't much better. - Greeted at the door by waiter whose entire vibe seemed to be, "what are you doing here?" No warmth, no welcome, no charm, no good cheer; deeply disinterested. - No offer of drinks. None. Not alcohol or anything else. When we asked, the waiter was surprised that someone would want to order drinks. My simple soda did not arrive until the middle of the meal after I asked again. - Proper cutlery was never delivered for eating pasta. - Desert would have been nice if we hadn't already spent a ton of time waiting around intending to spend more money. We went elsewhere. As to the food... I ordered the Italian Classic Spaghetti à la Carabonara. The world is filled with terrible carabonaras but this set a new low. It was like ramen. I coated noodles sat in a bowl of thin yellow/brown fluid that tasted only of mushrooms, presumably from the guanciale. Parmasean would have been helped but if you don't care, you offer only Romano as was delivered here yesterday. So think of it as Pork Noodle Soup. Speaking of soup, I was interested in ordering some but the waiter couldn't describe it except to list every ingredient imaginable for soup. I took a pass on this notorious staple of fake restaurants, "the leftover everything soup". To be fair, my friend had the daily special, crab cakes. He found them light and tasty as opposed to thick and heavy. I am always disturbed whenever I see the presumed chef sitting in the dining room, this one did not have air conditioning on a beautiful June day, staring at the customers, offering no greeting or engagement. I had hoped this might become a regular neighbourhood spot for me. Nope, never. I'd rather travel to a different neighbourhood than come here again.

I came on a Mon around 17:30 and stayed until 20:00 (taking photos and videos of course!). The…read morerestaurant had very few guests. Because they were not busy, the service was excellent! They even asked the sous chef to make sure the presentation was excellent; he didn't disappoint. Their menu changes seasonally. I ordered the following: 1. Coke ($). 2. Tempura Shrimp ($27). 3. Crispy Duck Leg Confit & Breast ($46). 4. Saskatoon Berry Cheesecake ($14). The Tempura Shrimp were tiger shrimp and were so plump, each about 1 inch diameter at the widest end! They were de-shelled and tempura battered. There were orange slices (orange), avocado slices (green), and chili slices (red), making the dish colourful. The Crispy Duck came with a leg and sliced breast portions. Accompanying them were tamarillo, sunchoke puree, bordelaise, dried kale chips, berry gastrique, and chopped candied pecans. All the ingredients worked well together, with mixtures of savoury and sweet tastes. The Cheesecake was amazing. The cheesecake itself was an upside-down half sphere. It was soft; I prefer that over the typical firm cake. There were miniature dried berries on top, along with a ruby chocolate sauce, and a sliced of dried red beet. Surrounding it was a soft marshmallow meringue which was lightly torched. The colour theme was red and white with a touch of dark blue. Daimon, the sous chef, plated everything expertly for me. There is plenty of indoor seating, of which one side has a view of the lake. There is lively music playing in the background. There is free WiFi. The restaurant is wheelchair accessible. There are separate male/female washrooms. There is free street parking on weekends on a street running north of the restaurant. There is also a paid parking lot next to the restaurant. Returned to Spencer's at the Waterfront for brunch and was not disappointed…read more I enjoy visiting Spencer's on special occasions. At the recommendation of the service staff, I ordered the Crab Cake Egg Benedict (lemon aïoli, boston lettuce, chive hollandaise), served for weekend brunch only. Similar to my previous meals here, the food had subtle layers of flavour that came together nicely with every bite. I tend to gravitate to food that I can't get at other restaurants. The server informed us that the meal was not served on brioche like the other Egg Benedict's, but I was still full with the side salad (yeh, no arugula). My husband ordered the side fries so his belly was full. There were two crab cakes with eggs, and plenty of crab inside. I was glad that I didn't taste fillers. Service was good and we sat at a table with a waterfront view. The Sloane tea and beverages were a pricey and small for what they were, hence one of the reasons I don't come here as frequently. Overall, I enjoy the food here.

There aren't a lot of Dutch and Indonesian restaurants in Toronto, let alone two combined under the…read moresame roof. This place is a gem on the Danforth - small, cozy, intimate, and perfect for small gatherings and private events (they routinely get booked for private events). Once a month, they host rijstaffel ("rice table") which features an elaborate selection of Indonesian dishes for sharing (need to be booked in advance). Booking process is via email. They usually respond within 1-2 business days confirming your reservation. Staff are very friendly and accommodating. There are various Dutch memorabilia decorating the walls and shelves inside the restaurant, making it feel very 'homey'. There is also a full bar with small TV screen. Food is excellent - both the Dutch and Indonesian options are traditional and delicious. They have traditional Dutch dishes such as bitterballen, krokets, borenkool, snert, and poffertjes, as well as Indonesian classics such as nasi goreng (fried rice), bakmi goreng (fried noodles), satay, gado-gado, and krupuk. The best part about this restaurant is that they can make all dishes vegan! They also tend to have specials (usually 1 drink and 1 food special that are not on the menu), so ask the waiter / waitress what the specials are for the day. Dishes that we tried: DUTCH 1) Boerenkool (Holland's most traditional dish - stewed kale and potato mash with vegan smoked sausage and gravy) - Very hearty. The vegan smoked sausage was slightly crispy on the outside. 2) Vegan Snert (Dutch pea soup with king oyster mushrooms and vegan smoked sausage, served with dark rye bread) - Perfect for winter. Soup was thick, filling, and flavourful. It was interesting to see the king oyster mushrooms made into pulled pork-like texture. The vegan smoked sausage was a bit salty. 3) Poffertjes (Dutch mini puffed pancakes with icing sugar and butter) - Light and not too heavy for dessert. It would've been better with cheese, yogurt, or berries / fresh fruits instead of butter, in my opinion. INDONESIAN 1) Nasi Goreng (Indonesian fried rice with fried egg, sambal, seroendeng, and pickled cucumber) - Our favourite dish here! It tasted authentically Indonesian with the sweet soy sauce. Loved the fried egg on top with runny yolk, and the toasted coconut and peanuts that added a nice, flavourful crunch to every bite. 2) Gado-Gado (Indonesian salad of seasonal vegetables with tofu, hard-boiled eggs, and peanut satay sauce) - I liked that this was light (the sauce was not overdone) and the vegetables were still crunchy. The vegetables were not really what's in a typical gado-gado, but I still enjoyed it very much, that we ended up ordering 2 of this same dish to get extra veggies!
