The Pork Borscht was hearty and comforting, and I loved the traditional pampushky bread. The appetizer portion was very generous. The Adjarian Khachapuri was beautifully presented. The egg and cheese combination tasted delicious, but unfortunately the dough was slightly undercooked. It felt like the kitchen may have been overwhelmed by how busy service was. For dessert, I ordered the Sour Cherry Varenyky -- dumplings filled with sour cherry and served with sour cream. This dessert didn't quite work for me. I can imagine it being nostalgic for those who grew up with it, but the filling lacked sweetness and the addition of sour cream made it taste even more tart. That said, I usually enjoy sour flavours, so this one just didn't land for my personal taste. I tried honey cake thst my friend ordered and I was not disappointed though. I would like to return and give this restaurant another try, as the extremely busy service may have affected both food execution and overall service quality.

My kid ate them and was so full, he refused a pizza at a birthday party some time later. At the same time, syrnyky (19 CAD for three) were a disgrace. Too sweet and sour and almost inedible. I'd suggest making them twice less sweet and get rid of the sour sauce. The restaurant is quite pretentious too! We walked in after the High Park and the waiter immediately said we have to have a reservation, only to then immediately say that we can indeed sit down. - But I understand. This is typical "Eastern European hospitality". Overall, they are trying to be a posh place, but the flavours are not quite there yet. The dishes are one-dinensional, if you will, or 2D. I'd rather have a homey restaurant with really good food.

Many others in reviews of this place have complained about the poor table service and I urge you to take them seriously. It is REALLY BAD. Food wasn't much better. - Greeted at the door by waiter whose entire vibe seemed to be, "what are you doing here?" No warmth, no welcome, no charm, no good cheer; deeply disinterested. - No offer of drinks. None. Not alcohol or anything else. When we asked, the waiter was surprised that someone would want to order drinks. My simple soda did not arrive until the middle of the meal after I asked again. - Proper cutlery was never delivered for eating pasta. - Desert would have been nice if we hadn't already spent a ton of time waiting around intending to spend more money. We went elsewhere. As to the food... I ordered the Italian Classic Spaghetti à la Carabonara. The world is filled with terrible carabonaras but this set a new low. It was like ramen. I coated noodles sat in a bowl of thin yellow/brown fluid that tasted only of mushrooms, presumably from the guanciale. Parmasean would have been helped but if you don't care, you offer only Romano as was delivered here yesterday. So think of it as Pork Noodle Soup. Speaking of soup, I was interested in ordering some but the waiter couldn't describe it except to list every ingredient imaginable for soup. I took a pass on this notorious staple of fake restaurants, "the leftover everything soup". To be fair, my friend had the daily special, crab cakes. He found them light and tasty as opposed to thick and heavy. I am always disturbed whenever I see the presumed chef sitting in the dining room, this one did not have air conditioning on a beautiful June day, staring at the customers, offering no greeting or engagement. I had hoped this might become a regular neighbourhood spot for me. Nope, never. I'd rather travel to a different neighbourhood than come here again.

Very spacious for group dining, couples or solo! I definitely wanted to try the Shopska salad and the Cevapi (chevapi) plate so that's what I ordered and it did not disappoint!! A must-order is the bread called lepinja (lepin-ya). It comes with a fresh cheese called kajmak (k-eye-mak) The cevapi plate comes with your choice of 3 sides - coleslaw with oil/vinegar, potatoes, diced raw onions, or baked beans. Everything was fantastic. The cevapi were perfectly done. Lepinja and kajmak were amazing. Kajmak is home-made there, and you can buy some to go! Shopska salad features cucumbers, tomatoes, onions and green peppers in an oil/vinegar dressing with a mountain of shredded feta on top!!! Soooo good!!

We ordered lepinja sa kajmakom, which was a homestyle bread with cream cheese. This was the star dish of the night omg, priced at $5 for 4 pieces it instantly set the meal in the right direction! We then got the shopska salad which was a salad with tomato, cucumber, onion, green pepper, and feta. Salad was mid, but it was nice to have greens as our main was the mesano meso, a grilled meat platter for 4. This platter was so filling and had different varieties of meats. The best meat in this selection was the sausage, I unfortunately found everything else a little lacklustre. Service was great throughout the night, ambiance was nothing super special. Verdict: come for the homestyle bread!! Still thinking about it haha

We went for a 5pm reservation and it filled up rather quickly. The host and all the servers were really wonderful and attentive. For a group of 3 they recommended 4 small plates and 2 large ones all to share. Something nice is that they have complimentary sparkling water which I enjoyed. We ordered the challah - both the butter and pâté versions - the BBQ salami, crispy potatoes, the turnips, the endive salad, and the chicken schnitzel. They brought out the bread and salami first as well as complimentary house-made coleslaw which was crispy, light, and added a perfect vinegary bite. The challah was warm and airy. I didn't try the butter but I thought the pâté was very nice and smooth. The BBQ salami was incredible!! The mustard was a nice compliment with the apricot flavour as well. The turnips, salad, and potatoes came next, followed quickly by the chicken. I loved everything. The pear in the salad was an unexpected highlight. The chicken was the standout for sure. I absolutely loved it. For dessert we tried the cheesecake which was nice, a good balance of tang and mild sweetness. The bathrooms are also nice with the little WC signs, the good paper towel, and the recipes in addition to other art prints on the walls. I don't normally comment on the washrooms, but these were cute. Overall, everything we ate was wonderful and the service was great! It came out to about $170 for us but we ordered the perfect amount. It was a bit pricey but I really enjoyed everything. I would highly recommend Maven.
