    Salmon Benedict Breakfast
    Hal C.

The venerable Annex oasis formerly known as Future's Bakery, now Future Bistro at Bloor and Brunswick, is a place I frequent, embracing its strengths while tolerating its shortcomings. Strengths: Convenient Location and Atmosphere: The relaxed, spacious, and casual vibe is ideal for groups, quiet work sessions, or casual meetings. It feels like a throwback to simpler times, offering a warm and unpretentious space to unwind. Desserts and Coffee: Their selection of cakes, displayed enticingly, and the bottomless coffee that accompanies ordered meals are standout features. These offerings are perfect for those looking for a cozy place to linger with a treat. Good Value: The affordable pricing makes it a popular spot for students and anyone seeking a budget-friendly snack or meal. Challenges: Inconsistent Food Quality: Unfortunately, the cooked meals often fall short. The scrambled eggs can be dry and flavorless, while sandwiches lack finesse. The seasoning is either too heavy-handed or absent altogether. Service: Staff interactions tend to be abrupt and purely transactional, lacking warmth or attentiveness. Accessibility: Accessibility is a significant issue. The narrow staircase leading to the basement washrooms is a clear barrier for individuals with mobility challenges. Decor and Cleanliness: The "grungy chic" decor might charm longtime patrons, but the outdated, slightly shabby interiors could use refreshing. Future Bistro remains a nostalgic favorite for many, but there's room for improvement to elevate the overall experience. It's still one of my go-to locations...

    Eggplant Parmesan Sandwich

The focaccia of the Eggplant Parmesan sandwich is arguably the softest and fluffiest bread I have ever consumed. Otherwise, pretty neat joint with reasonable prices and nice ambiance.

    Baileys and pistachio cheesecake

Went there for after diner desserts. They have a lot of cake options including cheesecake options. Me and my friend tried 2 different cheesecake flavors : baileys and pistachio. They were both really good. You could really taste the Baileys flavor in the Baileys one. I don't know if there's alcohol or not in it. The pistachio was a really good cheesecake too. However, I think that there was very little pistachio flavor. It tasted more like a classic delicious Philadelphia cheesecake with small bits of pistachio in it. I would definitely come back to try more of their cakes. This place also has brunch and lunch and diner options. You can seat wherever you want and you have to go to the counter to order.

    It's a diner on Bloor.

Your map of regular diners in To should include Future. In among trendier bars and resto's, they still have the $2 student specials like a massive plate of mashed potatoes with gravy that you won't find anywhere else. Basic cafeteria style service where you have to watch everyone else to figure out, but once you get it, chow down and move along. They even have an AYCE perogie night which is kind of fantastic if you are in the mood for carbs loaded with more carbs. The dining area is spacious enough and if you are eating solo it is a great spot to meld into the background scenery (70s style wood) and din. Nobody will judge at Future. I had the breakfast which was eggs benny with ham, nothing fancy, just like To personified.

    This meaty chili is b*mb!

In A Nutshell: -Future Bistro has some very, very good chili. -Seriously, I'm writing this entire review about their meaty chili. -It doesn't look like anything special when you order it, but as soon as you take a bite, you're like, "WOW". Overall, come here order the chili and get the Space Invader IPA to wash it all down.

3 stars seems right... Has the potential for 5. Interior needs modernization (floors, setup). Chicken schnitzel is decent, better in surrounding area. More chicken, less breading. Perfect corner location in busy annex.

Caesar salad with garlic bread + egg benedict

Good prices, big portions, mediocre food. Cesar salad was plain, little dressing had to ask for more, garlic bread with it was good! Eggs benny was okay, hollandaise sauce did not have much flavour but home fries were great!

Overall: Not too bad, worth a try Price: Decent for breakfast and some meals. CAKEs/DESSERTS ARE TOO PRICEY Portion: not too bad. decent portion Taste: nothing spectacular, your average cafe/restaurant Service: its okay, they don't really serve you, you order then Sit then get your food then eat then but plates in the bin Venue: cute, cozy, people are with their partners or some people by themselves doing work. Been coming here for a while, they have student specials on week days too which I like.

humble and amazing eatery , everything there is what you get everywhere but the taste, the quality , the price and the people are exceptional here ! i go here all the time and recommend all

If you enjoy mediocre half-assed cooking then this is the place for you! Tonight's dish was: Burnt dry Schnitzel Tasteless, flavourless chickpea salad Lumpy, cold mashed potatoes. The cutlery was dirty - a perfect pairing for the dumpy atmosphere. The wait staff doesn't care about much of anything and I'm generally confused why this place was so crowded. The food is overpriced and disappointing. Very underwhelming. Booo.

    Congealed coffee residue.

I got 3 sandwiches for me and my family (4 people including me). What we ordered: Mona Lisa: 8/10 For both of the sandwiches the bread was very fresh and delicious! They make them fresh for each order and you can taste the quality. The flavours in the Mona Lisa worked really well together, I loved the truffle cream and burrata. Torino: 7/10 This sandwich was also good, but the I felt like it was lacking something, especially compared to the mona lisa. The spicy eggplant just tasted like plain pickled eggplant and wasn't that spicy. I feel like both sandwiches were a bit salty due to the prosciutto, and were missing some sweet or acidic element. I added some balsamic glaze and hot honey at home which was great! The portion sizes are HUGE, the 4 of us were quite full after splitting the 3.

This small little bake shop had a menu hanging up, but I completely ignored it thanks to the baked goods right behind the counter that I was too busy staring at. I knew right away that I was going to order a Chocolate Croissant because, well, I always order a Chocolate Croissant if one is available. After making my first choice, this strange little baked good caught my eye, and it turned out to be something called a Cruffin.......a Cruffin you say? What is a cruffin? WELL, let me tell you. The cruffin is basically like a muffin, but like, with cheese and pepperoni on it so obviously I hate to order that sexy little bad boy right away. This thing wasn't big, but it was very dense and basically tasted like pizza crust which was absolutely delicious. After eating the cruffin, the Chocolate Croissant seemed way less cool but I ate it anyway. It tasted good and the chocolate was actually spread across the whole thing so they get an even bigger thumbs up for doing it right. Overall, COBS Bread was the spot! I had no idea this was a chain, but who cares, this place was great. I really liked the Cruffin I got and the croissant was really good as well. I will absolutely be revisiting COBS Bread when I come back to Canada and devouring a few more cruffins while I'm at it!

As soon as I entered I got a whiff of fresh bread and was suddenly overwhelmed by the amount of breads and baked goods on display. I've had their cheese pullapart loafs as well as danishes previously before, however, this time I was at the store for a free cinnamon bun as it was a free birthday reward for being a member of their Cobs Club. The cashier was friendly and asked if I wanted either a cinnamon bun with icing or plain. I opted for a cinnamon bun with icing and she put it in a box for me before handing it over. During my time at the store the place had a steady flow of customers, coming in to buy baked goods. My cinnamon bun was big and tasted great! I heated it up a bit when I got home. You can really feel the care and personality behind the space, which added so much to the overall visit. We tried a variety of items, but the Pizza Caesar Wrap was easily the standout and our favourite thing we ate. Crispy, cheesy, messy in the best way, and packed with flavour. Even better, $3 from every wrap goes toward supporting Daily Bread Food Bank through their $30,000 fundraising campaign, which made ordering it feel even more worthwhile. We also really enjoyed the Spicy Ham & Cheese, which had the perfect balance of spicy, creamy, salty, and savoury flavours. The Gourmet French Hot Dog was another highlight with its sweet and savoury flavour combination wrapped in a buttery, flaky croissant. The Four Seasons sandwiches were a fun concept inspired by the Blue Jays, and while the Chef's Choice wasn't our personal favourite, some people at our table enjoyed it more than we did. For dessert, all of the cookies were freshly baked in-house and surprisingly good for a grab-and-go style spot. The double chocolate chip was rich and soft, and the white chocolate cranberry and macadamia cookies were both solid classics. The iced matcha latte with oat milk paired especially well with them, and the iced vanilla latte was smooth and easy to drink. The space itself is bright and open with big windows that bring in lots of natural light during the day. Seating is cozy, but the layout still feels spacious and comfortable overall. Overall, a playful comfort food spot that offers catering with genuinely friendly service, creative menu items, and a welcoming atmosphere that makes you want to come back.

I'm going to continue with my overtime take out review series with Sandwich Box. You would think making a sandwich is probably not the most complicated task out there, but this place seems to get it all wrong. My order consisted of an egg salad sandwich on whole grain bread with a side salad. When I received it, I only got the sandwich and the restaurant failed to tell me the salad was no longer included in the combo (yet the price remained the same). That's great that the online menu was not updated to include items no longer available, a simple update would address all these problems knowmsayin? Now on to the actual sandwich, the bread was thick. I mean so thick it looked like there was about a half an inch of eggs inside of two encyclopedias worth of bread. The eggs themselves, totally flavorless and bland. Kinda hard to mess up an egg salad sandwich right? Even Tim Horton's can get that right! To make things short and sweet, I'll be looking over this option the next time I'm working late or considering a sandwich in the downtown area.
