The shrimp was decent, but the chicken was noticeably overcooked and dry eith no flavor. For a hibachi-style restaurant, properly cooked, tender meat is one of the things we expect to be a highlight. One thing that also caught our attention was that we were told the cooks were Vietnamese rather than Japanese. To be clear, nationality does not determine someone's ability to prepare great food, and we have absolutely nothing against that. However, there was a strong emphasis on the food being "from Japan," so we felt the overall presentation and messaging could have been clearer and more authentic. There is definitely potential here--the restaurant has a nice setting and could be a beautiful place for a meal. We began our meal with Agedashi Tofu, which is fried cubes of tofu that have a magnificently thin layer of a crisp skin encasing melted tofu, and there's a perfect sauce to dip them in. I have been thinking about these for an hour now and can't even imagine how they are made. A delicious magic trick! Next, we had an Eel and Shrimp Tempura Roll, a Shrimp Tempura Bento Box, and two Nigiri and Sashimi lunch specials. The Tempura was light and crisp. The bento box included a spring roll, fried rice, and gyoza, all perfectly flavored. The Nigiri and Sashimi fish was served cold and absolutely fresh, and was sliced generously. The Nigiri and Sushi lunches included a California roll, 4 pieces of sushi, and six pieces of sashimi, and really was a lot of excellent food for a bargain $24. I almost forgot that we started, along with the Agedashi Tofu, with a very subtly flavored miso soup with tofu and seaweed. This was also perfection, with just a breath of ginger and perfect salt. I hope I've convinced you fans of Japanese food to try this restaurant. If you're new to Japanese food's many varieties and intricacies, or hesitant to eat raw foods, there are always cooked meat and fish dishes like Tempura or Teriyaki you can order, and then you can explore by tasting the more exotic things your friends and family order. Even though ordering is done on an iPad, they still kept forgetting items. We had to remind the staff multiple times before the food finally arrived. Every dish took 10-15 minutes or longer to arrive, yet customers are expected to finish their meal within a 90-minute time limit. This is a Japanese BBQ restaurant where the staff is simply bringing out raw meat for customers to grill at the table. There is really no reason it should take 10-15 minutes to deliver each order. To make it even more frustrating, the restaurant wasn't even busy. During our entire meal, there were only two or three other tables occupied, so it's hard to understand why the service was so slow and disorganized. To make matters worse, an 18% service charge was automatically added to the bill. I don't mind paying a service charge for good service, but charging that much when the service is this slow and disappointing feels completely unjustified. Our bill was over $210 for three people, and that didn't even include any drinks. At that price, there are many better Japanese BBQ options available. Unfortunately, I won't be coming back, and I can't recommend this place.

We also had a yellowtail roll and an eel roll, and both were extremely skinny and lacked that "wow" flavor. Last time, we had a torch-seared Wagyu-topped roll that was so good we literally paused between bites just to savor it. Service was phenomenal as always, and the ambiance is beautiful. However, by 10:30 they were already clearing tables and cleaning up the bar even though they close at 11. It made us feel like the restaurant was already closed. Really disappointing because our first visit was worth every penny. This time felt like a completely different experience, and unfortunately I'm not sure we'll be back.

For my first round, I had the Clam Soup, Aged Tofu, Harumaki, Green Mussels, and Eel & Octopus Roll; for specialty rolls I had the King Kai, Crunchy (hand), and Eel Cucumber roll. Acording to my receipt I also got a King Oyster Mushroom Tempura [roll]? While I don't remember ordering it, I do remember that was one of my favorites! Loved the clam soup and the green mussels! Second round included a favorite from staff which was the Yellowtail Jalapeno (I'm very glad to have ordered that one, spot on! Thanks Jenna!). The magical dining came with four courses. I wanted to try the seaweed salad for my first course, which was marinated nicely in soy sauce. It looked like noodles, but had a nice small crunch after every bite. My second course was nigiri sushi, which included salmon, tuna, and yellowtail. All of them were nice and fresh, and most of them melted in my mouth as well. Adding the house made soy sauce added the umami needed. The third course was the volcano roll, which was hemachi, bacon, jalapeno, and avocado in the bottom, with scallops and imitation crab on top. It was very enjoyable, especially the scallops and fish. The food was quite filling as well. Thankfully I still had room for dessert, and the ube flan was sinfully good. It tasted like an authentic flan with the ube fusion. It was better than the flan at some Mexican restaurants. The service was professional and more attentive than the last time I visited. It was pretty quick as well. The vibe still look chic and upscale. Definitely worthy of the three diamonds it got from AAA. Parking is still free and easy at the complex. We didn't know she was our server but we actually thought she was a guest because we saw her at the table near us with a phone out just hanging out at a table obviously the entire time we were waiting. Anything that we asked she responded with a condescending tone. Again we felt like we were an inconvenience, I guess we were taking her away from her friends ?!
