This time, I'm going to take home a lunch meat sub for later tonight. I don't think I've ever had one. My father was friends with the original owner. My dad worked at the Ford Rawsonville plant. He would take orders from the people on the line and go to Gabriels and pickup sometimes 20 hoagies or more. He told my dad for every ten that he ordered, he would give him a free one. The food and service are no doubt great, with the simple rustic decor giving the place added charm. There are two minor reasons they don't get a perfect score to me. For one the bread, while delicious, is way too delicate. If it absorbs too much moisture from the meat it will break in your hands while you are eating and then you are using a spoon at that point. Secondly I feel like the size of my sandwich was a bit underwhelming as far as length was concerned. They could have put more meat in it as I've seen them really stuff mine at the Ypsilanti location. My wife order the Carne Asada fries and a fountain Coke. She love the fries. I ordered a double cheeseburger slider with bacon ( about $5 ) with grilled onions as standard. The bacon was PERFECT!! Chewy, but fully done; no white fat but opaque fully cooked! Awesome burger. 9 out of 10. I also ordered a raspberry shake. It was good ( 6 out of 10 ) and shared it with my wife. Maybe I am spoiled by super sweet chocolate shakes from White Castle. A pricey over $6. Perhaps skip this one or try a malt. I also ordered Chili Cheese Fries.
