Lee's Sandwiches is likely the most well known fast food chain in our area for banh mi. Our household and extended family have been ordering from Lee's since the early 1990s and prior to that. My thoughts are that the quality of the food has improved over the years; I think that good customer feedback to the management team has been good for improving the service and food prep. today I purchased the spam, egg, and cheese baguette sandwich and a diet coke for breakfast. I stumbled upon Lee's Sandwiches on my way to SJC airport while the kiddos wanted Taco Bell that was tight beside it. I have heard about Lee's, especially their coffee, but have never been to one until now. Located off the Berryessa exit on 680, it's has sufficient parking and signage that you can't miss it. The place is big, clean and lots of offerings. There is a dine in area with a wide screen TV to watch. As you walk in there is a mini mart of vietnamese goods. The gentleman at the register was very helpful as I asked about the sandwiches. In the end, I stuck with my favorite Pork and Pate combo, #11 on the menu. It's the only sandwich that you can purchase as a half too. I noticed a rice wrapped item on a warmer, and was told it was stuffed with ground beef in it. Out of curiosity, I bought one. My order would not be complete if I didn't get Lee's famous iced coffee! The sandwich is definitely 2 servings, and was good. I just wished that there was a little more pate than just a smear. The rice item was warm delicious! It was like a sticky rice you find at a dimsum place without being wrapped in a leaf. It was so good that I forgot to take a picture. Iced coffee is strong and sweet, as expected from a Vietnamese coffee. I added more ice to dilute it for my taste. Although they have several locations in Northern CA, mostly are in the San Jose (South Bay) area while there are 3 locations in the SF Bay Area. I have been to Lee's several times in the past when I lived in this area. I am not a sandwich fan but I enjoy the Asian twist on these baguette sandwiches. I got a chicken sandwich this time around. The veggies were fresh and crisp with the cucumbers providing a cooling effect against the fiery jalapeno slices. The chicken was tough though as was the bread itself. It took some effort to chow it down. I didn't enjoy the hard chicken much. The store/cafe has some aisles of Asian groceries and some tables as well. They also have some prepackaged fresh food like noodles, rolls, rice etc for a quick grab and go at very reasonable prices. read more

My family member got food poisoning from the cucumber in the sandwich, and my other family member tossed out the pickled vegetables in their sandwich because they tasted funky. The family member with food poisoning said they had a few bites of the cucumber in the sandwich and it tasted weird, and threw out most of the cucumber after. However, they still suffered with a very bad stomachache for the rest of the day. The other family member with the pickled vegetables that tasted strange said the pickled vegetables probably went bad. It's possible that the ingredients for our sandwiches were not fresh/well maintained. Other than that, I felt like I needed more of the sauces and vegetables in my sandwich. It tasted more like meat and jalapeño than anything else and not well balanced. We were really excited to try this Lees Sandwiches because it is a well known chain, but we were let down by our experience. Anytime I am in the San Jose area I have to make a stop at Lees Sandwiches. They have a huge selection of Vietnamese and European sandwiches. Today I tried the vegan fried chicken sandwhich, what I love a lot about lees if their fresh baked bread. This place is right by my house and it's so convenient when you need to pick up a quick lunch or coffee. Sometimes if I'm not feeling a bánh mì, I'll get something from their counter. Might depend on the day but they have a variety of plates of food: bánh cuốn, pork vermicelli, rice plate, spring rolls, some desserts too. The bánh cuốn and vermicelli would be my go-tos (although I wish they put more filling in the bánh cuốn, sometimes it's mainly rice noodle roll). This time for dinner, I picked up vermicelli, spring rolls, and sugarcane juice! Also like the beef stew, very flavorful and hits the spot when you dip the bread in it. Their coffee is what got me hooked onto viet coffee, can't go wrong with it and you can buy it by the bottle from their fridge to make at home yourself! They also have ném in the fridge and that's my fave too. One of the managers/owners work there and he's super friendly and nice, very welcoming to everyone. Like everything in this economy, prices at Lees sandwiches have gone up! But, the quality of food and the deliciousness of their viet coffee still keeps us coming back. As it's located near the highway, its kind of awkward to get to, but once you do arrive there's plenty of parking shared with Taco Bell and some other shops. It's mostly empty there and folks seem to take their food to go. Along with selling smoothies, drinks, sandwiches, and other items, they also sell chips and candy. I rate this place four stars because my husband and I recently popped by when they were about an hour from closing, and our cashier was really nice and in a great mood despite having worked a 10+ hour day. He made his recommendations of the best sandwich, and joked around with us a bit. Our food was made quickly and he thanked us profusely for coming. They can and do make your spring rolls without certain ingredients if you ask, a decent selection of different trays, and drinks. Great for a quick bite or grab-and-go snacks. Although their food is delicious, they've raised the prices more than double since I started eating here. Out of the locations close to me, this Berryessa one is my favorite. It's spacious and well-kept. They have TVs for entertainment in the dining area and a restroom available. They have breakfast sandwiches available all day which can be ordered on a croissant or baguette -- these have been my go-to lately. Every visit, I'm greeted immediately and the cashier is ready to take my order before I am. Friendly staff and they get your food out pretty quick. read more

They really fill the sandwich and don't leave anything to be missed. We went there again a few days later just to make sure we weren't just hungry. We were right. The place is certainly the best Lee location in all of South Bay. For comparison, we like Banh Mi Oven off Story Rd, Huong Lan off Tully and Duc Huong off McKee. They're all better on the sandwich side but again that's preference. Lee's sandwiches have the harder crust baguettes which I'm just ok with, but their fresh cut head cheese hit the spot for me. Stopped by here after a road trip around 1 PM on a Monday and there was no line! Managed to order a grilled chicken banh mi and it was delicious. The bread & vegetables are so crisp & the chicken has a delicious seasoned taste to it. My boyfriend told me that the inside had been renovated, & it definitely shows! My family and I stopped by minutes before they closed. Thank goodness they still had ingredients to make our sandwiches! My mom and I shared their vegetarian shrimp banh mi, which comes with the shredded bi (fried tofu shreds) and vegetarian shrimp. AVOID this place Few months ago, I came here very excited to eat their sandwich. I took it home, put the tv on to enjoy the experience Only to see my sandwich barely has any meat or veggies in it.
