Tried this place again after a year or so, and experience felt about the same as before. The meats are cooked on thin wire meshes directly over electric stoves and it things catch on fire pretty fast. It's quite a show but food could be better

I saw a lot of this on IG and finally got to try the place out. I have to say the hype made me expect more, and this place was just alright. The price seems like an average price for Japanese BBQ, or it could be more; I can't remember. The food looks great, but certain dishes weren't good. For example, the pork was not too good, and the beef was better. One of my favorite side dishes or appetizers, the takowasabi, wasn't good; it didn't have the spiciness or the taste. I love the server; she is very helpful and attentive. Overall, will I come back? Maybe not, but I'm glad I tried the place out to see for myself.

Went for lunch here for Dear Shanghai (inside the bbq place)! It was full house, how did i not find out about this earlier. Beef noodles weee nice and hearty. Pan fried dumplings were juicy. Great quick lunch

Ayce jbbq was amazing with great food and service!

Food from them is provided with care and quality that you can taste when grilling the meats and vegetables. Service was efficient and had occasional check ins from the servers to see if we wanted to order more. Ambience is nice and not too loud that we had to shout at each other.

The restaurant decorated pretty high end and a normal all you can eat is over $40 . I was given a menu book during the visit in weekday lunch when I sit in. There is ALL you can eat shabu shabu ( Japanese hot pot) and bbq grill. Looking through the menu, there is all day price and lunch price. Ok. I get it. But where is the lunch special listed at the door for the weekday. I asked the server and she then gave me the bbq/ shabu Shabu special. I took bbq special for 2 ($34 ) . At the end, the server then gave me the bento box menu ($12 per box). Is it intention to make you go for more expensive menu first? It's tricky. The set for 2 has 8 meat ( in all u can eat plate size ), 6 veggies, 2 bowl of rice, 2 soups and a plate of fries. Some meat is chewy. Beef brisket, pork belly and shrimp are the best.

I dont give 5 stars often, but i think the vibe, food, and respect was on point here! You can tell the owner cares when he is helping out to serve people. If you are here after 10pm, ask for the night menu. The menu is perfect for controlling how much you eat. Plus, it's very cost effective; Probably the cheapest grill session Ive ever had. Please try their kalbi beef!!! Ask for sauces too! I had an amazing night, thank you to the people who provided quick and friendly service. Two thumbs up !

Location/Service This place is in the heart of Yonge and Finch, just a little bit south of Finch (more on Church Ave) - so there's side street parking available around the block. Place is well decorated and with good modern interior layout and design. I like how spacious it is to give a better dining experience - and it's great for larger parties. Staff were pretty nice, orders came on time - although sometimes they did forget a few items here and there - not sure why they don't write it down or punch it in and rely on pure memory. Food They have a new late night menu from 9pm to 2am. It's a-la-carte and each item is pretty much under $4 or so. There were a wide variety of selection - from different types of chicken (i.e. skin, cartilage, heart, wings) to beef (wagyu, kalbi, tongue) to lamb. I also like the seafood and veggie selections. They also have appetizers and carb-y things like noodles/rice. Quality was pretty good - I like how the lamb wasn't too gamy. The kalbi beef was very flavourful. They also have this sake pairing if you're in the mood for drinks, $20 for 6 shots - and there are about 8 different flavours to choose from - more on the asian twist kind of flavours. Overall this place is not bad - glad to see more variety of Japanese Style BBQ around the neighbourhood!

The lunch set. Great value for price. Food came quickly. I think because we were sitting in the corner the servers came by less. Would've appreciated for guidance on how long to cook certain items for but I'm sure the servers would've helped if we asked. Ambiance was cozy. Overall would recommend!

2.5/5 Came here for Sunday dinner for their $45 AYCE (plus tax and tip). Not a lot of great things could be said about this place, but the workers were doing their best and it is nothing against them. It was just the quality of the dish that was not so great, as well as how slow the food comes out. On top of that, some of the menu items written in Japanese was just wrong. Based on the price and the store, I thought it would be similar to Gyubee. For the first order, they give you an assortment of beef so we can try out which beef we want to try more of. I thought that was nice that it came in a dish labeled with the cuts of meat that they provide as it can sometimes get a bit confusing which meat was better when ordering from an AYCE place. Highlights(?): Tako-wasabi It was pretty decent for an AYCE place. Mixed Mushroom Although in Japanese, it says "3 types of mushroom in-season" which was not the case, it tasted pretty good despite the portion that it comes in. Pan-fried Gyoza It would be nice if it's more crispy at the bottom, but it was way better than the stuff I get form most AYCE places. Chicken Tip Braised in Rice Wine Sauce My partner enjoyed it. It was a cold dish and although I did initially enjoy it, the aftertaste was a bit off for me. Overall, I don't think it will be enough for me to come back again because of the high price point, slow service, and the quality of the dishes.

wagyu
David Y.

Opening weekend hiccups aside, this was pretty good Japanese bbq. A couple of standouts: the wagyu is melt in your mouth tender, and the all-you-can-(nonalcoholic)-drink option is an absolute steal if you love bubbletea. Also good are the spam masubi and eel roll. Overall general quality of the meats is ok. If I had to knitpick a couple of areas, it would be how slow the coil stove cooked, and how portion sizes were really small for each order (and yes, I know it's ayce, but if you're a group this is good to keep in mind). Service is perfunctory, place is nicely decorated, prices are standard (though I do appreciate the lunch ayce option which is cheaper). Overall, a pretty good treat.

I've read the reviews here and on Google, which is why my friends and I decided to go, and I wish I could feel the same way most patrons feel but unfortunately that's not the case. My friends and I went on a weekday lunch. We got the basic menu, no added wagyu. The service was slow and confused, often forgetting items or bringing incorrect ones, despite there being only two tables (including ours). The firepower of the grill was pathetic and meat was paper-thin and breaking up. The thicker cuts of meat (ribs and lamb) were quite chewy. The sauce containers did not work well with the thick sauces (ssamjang?). At least the interior decor was nice/pretty...? Compared to Gyubee or Gyu-Kaku, both within the same price range, Lee Yakiniku was very disappointing. We are unlikely to return.

FREE Wagyu for every 2 people per table (Aug 9 - Aug 11)

Newly opened near Yonge and Finch, this Japanese AYCE BBQ has excellent quality meat and attentive services despite only being opened for 2 days! The space isn't big compared to most Japanese BBQ restaurants, but they utilize the space well, offering BBQ at the bar table. I think this will be an intimate space for couples by sitting close and chit-chat. The quality is excellent, and the beef has a lot of marble. The wagyu is just out of the park delicious and oily and tender and just all around GREAT!! The meats are tender in every bite! The shrimp is all peeled, which is super convenient for all the shrimp lovers! They are doing soft opening at the moment but still quite a lot of people coming and the phone was ringing non stop!! Grand Opening Week is set for Aug 9 to Aug 11, and they are going to giveaway FREE WAGYU to every table of 2 people! Overall, highly recommend!

I've been walking by and waiting for this Japanese bbq spot to open. Finally, I found out they opened last week and came over to try! Ambiance is comfortable with nice Japanese wall arts. The lunch menu Mon-Friday 11:30-5:00pm regular $28.99 and kid $14.99. Toddler (0-4) free. Friday to Sunday & holidays regular $30.88 kid (5-10) $15.99 toddler (0-4) free. All day menu M-Thursday $42.99, kid $19.99 toddler (0-4) free Friday-Sunday and holidays $45.99 kid (5-0) $22.99 toddler (0-4) free. The all day menu has more variety, for example there is the prime kalbi, Harami, Brisket deckle. The first plate, they will give you a sampler to try. The chicken wingette-new Orleans flavour was delicious! The clams were tasty and they come in little tin foil trays. The salmon has a sour pickled flavour, good to open up the appetite. The appetizers were nice and small for side dishes. My mom liked the tako wasabi, takoyaki and fried peanut. The spam cheese musubi was warm and tasty. Just the right amount of rice. We ordered a side of Japanese wagyu kalbi short rib. The sauce has a nice tingy flavour, good to cut the fat and make it well balanced. It was soft and flavourful. Service was friendly, super attentive and helpful. Our waiter helped us cooked some meat and served it on our plates. Excellent service. Definitely a good addition to our hood!

There's no reservation system but they do have a waitlist on Yelp which gets you in line (highly recommended). First to know is you can't pay with credit card here--there's an ATM in the front of the restaurant. As far as the restaurant goes, it was fantastic from start to finish. Our table of 4 was seated and serviced by 1 main staff member, Lydia, who talked us through the whole menu and ordering system, recommended some great starts and then kept us frequently updated all throughout dinner. She checked up on us along with her assistants who were also bringing items and servicing the table. The food quality was excellent with juicy and flavorful cuts of beef along with the shrimp, pork, veggies, side dishes/ponchon, and rice--it kept coming consistently. Grill changes were frequent as well. The atmosphere is lively and there are a lot of servers so you aren't trying get someone's attention all the time. But it doesn't feel too cramped at the same time. As it is AYCE, everyone in our group left full of course and enjoyed each course. I liked the almond tofu at the end! ----TL;DR---- Pros: great selection of meats, quality was top notch, huge portions of course as it is AYCE, service was prompt and all staff were really friendly. Cons: no reservations so need to be on a waitlist. The no credit card system is a bit of an inconvenience. Bottom Line: we loved it--definitely would go back again and enjoy more of their selections! You have to try them if you like meat and AYCE!

It's my go-to spot to get my don fix - I love the wide variety of dons (rice bowls) that they offer with various fish and seafood combinations. There are also unique appetizers in the menu, such as Purple Yam Croquettes, Crab Crackers, Braised Bamboo Shoots with Shirasu (immature whitebait fish), and Takowasa (marinated raw octopus pieces, to be eaten with or wrapped in nori / seaweed). Although the dons are the main highlight of their menu (hence the restaurant name), they also offer traditional sushi, sashimi, sushi rolls and sets (similar to other Japanese sushi restaurants). Miso Aburi Scallops were very flavourful - nicely torched, giving the scallops a nice grill / char taste. They came with red and green seaweed, and a bit of fish roe. Large Premium Hana Don contained a good amount of fish and seafood, including a whole abalone, uni, shrimp in the shell, aburi salmon, ikura (salmon roe), salmon sashimi, tuna sashimi, yellowtail sashimi, other various fish sashimi, tamago (egg), and a few slices of cucumber on a generous bed of rice. I liked that the rice was a mix of white rice and some type of dark-coloured grains. Unatama Don came with a big piece of unagi and tamago (egg) that were both excellent. The sashimi were all fresh. Okonomiyaki was disappointing but it was sort of expected... for only $9, it was about 99% just flour pan-fried in a patty, without any substantial fillings (unlike real okonomiyaki, which usually contains protein / seafood, cabbage, eggs, and other ingredients). Location is super convenient near Bay & Dundas, ambiance is very casual, and service is quick.

The fishes were plated very pretty and because it's sushi of course it tasted good. But I was surprised at the level of wasabi that was plated. Cleared up my sinuses for 30 seconds. The establishment is very clean and bright and a great place to head to if you're in a rush.

We got a bunch of dishes to share and overall liked most things but some things (like the oyster) unfortunately didn't hit as well. Wagyu - thin slices but very tender and very flavorful with the cheese - surprised by how well the flavor combo worked out. Tofu - easily one of my fave agedashi tofu. Huge tofu slices with very chewy outer texture, a bit gelatinous . Really went well with the sauce and toppings Carbonara - nice chewy texture to the udon, not too soft and not too firm. The sauce was nice and creamy. Not as truffley as I thought it would be, wish it was a little more but it was still pretty good Oyster - least favorite of all the dishes we got today. It was a bit sour and the cheese felt like it didn't really help the flavor profile of the oysters. It was super oily from the cheese, felt like it was drowning in cheese/oil flavor Cod - it looks good but something is lacking, maybe in taste? Feel like maybe the marinade did not penetrate enough. The texture is still nice and soft , with a crisp skin . Also was a bit too oily for our liking, compared to other miso cod we have had. It was also a relatively smaller piece of cod. Overall, the appetizers were really good! The oyster and cod were a bit disappointing. Would come back for the carbonara and the other appetizers mentioned though!
