I don't like writing negative reviews but this deserves one. The leather work on a pair of fiberglass shell track/racing seats was fine. I had also asked for the shells to be repainted. I was told they don't do paint work and would send that to an auto body/paint shop to do. I was good with that. When I went to pick up the 'finished' seats it was clear that the person that did the paint work did not know what they were doing and got in over their head. There were sanding marks, fish eyes, color splotches and orange peel. Pretty much every defect you can imagine. I'm like what the heck?! Then they tell me the owner tried doing the paint work himself. This without informing the customer. I refused to pick up in that condition and they agreed to send the seat shells to an auto/body paint shop to make it 'right'. Fast forward. I go to pick up. The paint work on the back of the shells was in fact redone and looked pretty good. However, they cheaped out and did not redo the lousy paint work on the bottom of the shells. Not a huge deal but will cost me when I resell the seats at some point. Fast forward to payment. They up charged me at the end for the paint work. I would have been fine with the up charge had they 1) been honest up front and 2) done a good job on the paint work. When dealing with any business I value integrity and effective communication above all else. The quality of the work is a close second. This business fails in the integrity category and for that I won't do business with them again. To top it all off anytime I had an issue on this transaction worth discussing the owners made it seem as if I was putting them out in some way. Had a stuck seat belt that was wrapped around the passenger seat that needed fixed and I was told by another company that the seat would have to come out to fix the seat belt. The rudest woman I have EVER spoken to in my life when it comes to a professional business setting. I have a vintage collectors piece chair, worth a lot of money, that requires a certain level of craftsmanship--it's only natural I ask questions about their products and how they do things. She took immediate offense and was hostile toward me, continually talking over me; I even asked her if she was okay because it was so aggressive and rude. I don't know anyone who wouldn't do research on a business they're taking a special collectors piece to, and the fact that she was so defensive about simple questions and basic information, answered everything I need to know. When we decided to fully restore our 1 of 16 made 2000 VW Beetle Cracker Jack, I knew that I had to have leather menders do the job. Paul has previously done work on a rare infiniti of mine and the job was flawless. What made this task especially difficult was being able to save, salvage, and match the original Rawlings baseball glove material. The process took about 3 weeks. Paul and Tammy communicated the entire time and made sure we were part of the process the entire time. From color matching to making sure the stitching matched, we had a say in everything. The seats progressed so well we had Paul and his team do the headliner and sunroof cover. We paid a pretty penny for all the work but I can tell you we got every penny and then some worth. As I've seen often on Yelp, unfortunately there isn't a zero star option. I called these folks about repairing my convertible top. I was asked to submit a request on their website with photos of your he problem area. There was no response so I called them a week later and heard that they were having trouble getting the supplies they needed for the repair. Today, another week down the road, I called again. I got the same message. That wasn't satisfactory so I told the person that I'd have to look elsewhere and hung up. Within minutes, one of their staff called backed to repeat the previous excuse. I commented that I felt a better business model.... At the time I was cut off with a sarcastic "you run your business your way and I'll run mine my way" with a hang up. There are plenty of good reviews about the quality of work done by Leather Menders. Perhaps the same level of quality in customer service would have resulted in a better review. read more

Some purely evil movers wreaked devastation on our leather couch, which had otherwise weathered 20 years of abuse pretty well. My husband noticed the damage, saying it looked like they had used a citrus zester on 2 corners of the couch. These inept goofballs managed to totally scrape off the smooth top layer of leather, leaving a rough suede-like surface (which appeared to be forest green instead of navy like the rest of the couch) & inflicted a hole that looked like they had rammed an ice pick through the back cushion. These movers must have had a lot of pent-up anger that they vented on my innocent sofa. Paul is a MIRACLE WORKER!! He somehow managed to restore our sofa! I read your response to my review. My husband went alone to pick up the furniture because I had seen the pictures and didn't want to explode. He just kept his mouth shut and we had already decided we had made a huge error and we would have to suck it up. I could go Into more details like having us drive down to pick up pieces and then telling us after an hour and a half drive down to go have lunch and come back. We did as you Instructed just to be told after driving around pulling a huge enclosed trailer for a couple hours that nothing would be ready to pick up after all. Or having to come down because after weeks of having the captains chairs in your possession that you didn't have a power source to open the chairs. We had to drive down and rig up a source for you so you could work on it. You had told us you'd done these before so you would have known they were electric. So a picture is worth a thousand words. This stuff looks awful. The chair pictured was brand new in a box for you to cover and this is what I have to look at. Now you see why I didn't ask you to fix it or the rest of this stuff. Thanks for letting me finally say how I feel about this terrible looking furniture. You even blamed it on the leather......that you sold us. The lady I spoke with was VERY rude and didn't seem to want to help. After asking if I wanted her to look in her junk emails and me saying yes, I told you I sent a request in, she hung up. I Will not recommend or ever do business with this vendor after my experience today. To your comment...you were rude and disrespectful to begin the second you took the call. I had a bad experience and I would not recommend this place to anyone who values their time and money. The overall feeling is that the place is shady and the front desk lady and her husband Paul (who was trying to "fix" my bag) are rude. I needed to repair a scratch on the front of my bag (that they later told me was a scar on animal's body). That was Celine Seau Sangle bag (retail $2500). They took my bag on Jun6th and said it will take a week. When I called back it wasn't ready and they told me it will be ready in a few days. I called them back in a few days and it wasn't ready again and lady said they will give it back to me in a week. Needless to say it wasn't ready in a week and even in two weeks. It wasn't ready until the end of July. They kept giving me excuses (the master is on vacation, they are sick, he is busy with some government job etc). They promised to call and never did. When finally they showed me the bag I was shocked because it was ruined. The bag has a heavy texture (grained leather) and they made it flat... but not the entire bag but just a patch. They applied spray paint that didn't match the bag's color and this patch was not just flat but also matte. Also the paint was all over the gold logo which was barely visible now. Besides, the bag is a structured bucket bag and now it was just flat like something was sitting on top. You don't do such things to a leather and especially to something such expensive. I was obviously upset and said this wouldn't work and they need to fix that. Paul said he can fix this and take off all the filler and remove the paint and give it back to me in a week (haha). Guess what happened. They didn't. They gave it to me on Sep 2nd (yes, they kept the bag in their possession for 13 weeks). After I called them "in a week, tomorrow, in two days". Finally I was tired of this and said I want to pick up my bag even though it wasn't ready. That's when he told me he doesn't care about "damn thing and I can come and pick it up". When I showed up he gave me the bag which now had almost no logo on it (he took it off while trying to remove the paint that was sprayed all over) and the matte patch was still there. He was rude and he raised his voice on me. So as a result of this unforgettable experience my bag is now ruined. And I wasted my time. Avoid this place at any cost. read more

They quoted me by email $20 to clean and recolor my wallet, and when he saw it in person he said $50. That was fine, since it was probably in worse shape than the photos could show. I was a little surprised to be charged more than double the quote but I didn't have a lot of options. He was thorough to describe how the lettering would need to come off to do what I wanted, which I appreciated and I was okay with that. I wish he would have told me the color would be slightly darker and he wouldn't be able to get it completely even, though in fairness he may not have known. Told me it would be 2 days, but it was more like a week and a half and I had to call to find out it was ready, no one called. The front office never knew who I was or anything about my order when I called. Their hours are already inconvenient if you work full time and they were closed two work days due to travel which delayed getting it done. That is fine I guess, since they are a small shop. When I checked out in the front office didn't know how much to charge me or if it should be cash or credit. I was not told cash or credit at the beginning so I didn't have cash. I gave her my claim ticket but that wasn't helpful to her I guess. Overall I'm glad they fixed my wallet up but I think they are better suited for furniture and larger items. Not very a organized office, but friendly, so just be prepared to have to keep all information about the initial quote. read more

After being told by my body shop that the tears in my leather were unrepairable, I dropped off my 2013 SL550 at Leather Menders to see if they could do the repair. There was a tear on top of the door from the previous owner resting his arm while driving. Leather Menders was able to repair, color match and re-texture the area. You cannot tell it as ever torn. There were able to repairs the deep scratches on the door panels and touch up some areas where the dye was scratched off. They deep cleaned the seats and reconditioned all the leather.
