If you're short but refuse to wear platform shoes or ride a small bike, this might be your answer. I'm 5'5" and I decided that I just HAD to have a KTM 1290 SDR. I realized about a week into owning it later, and the first time I dropped it, I needed more of my feet on the ground. After some research and disappointment, realizing lowering my bike would alter performance, and cost a s**t-ton of money, I decided to look into getting my seat shaved down. After a few YouTube videos I decided I was too uncoordinated and lacking supplies to do it myself, so I looked into an upholsterer. Found Grateful threads online, and it was right down the road from me so I decided to give it a shot. I emailed Chris on a weekend and got a response within hours. Monday came around and I took it in to see what he could do. He was honest and told me he wasn't sure he could get the height that I wanted out of it, without sacrificing too much comfort, but I told him I wanted to try anyway. I expected a long wait, but before the end of the week, I got a text saying my seat was ready! I was nervous thinking it was barely going to make a difference, or that it would be crazy uncomfortable. As soon as I sat on my bike I couldn't stop smiling. I gained more than an inch on the ground. If I'm wearing boots, I can flat-foot my bike now and look a little less ridiculous backing out of parking spaces. Chris also was able to use the original seat covering so no one knows my secret. I was expecting my seat to be much more uncomfortable after losing that much foam, but I have been pleasantly surprised. I've gone on several 2-3 hour rides with this seat and I thinks it's actually more comfortable that it used to be. If you're thinking about coming here for comfort, or for functionality, I highly recommend this place. Chris at Grateful Threads did an exceptional job replacing the interior of my 2008 Super Air Nautique. His workmanship was perfect and he delivered on-time and for a fair price. We replaced all the vinyl with a stain proof product which is a higher quality than what came on my boat. I am very particular and wanted the seams done a certain way on some pieces and on others I wanted him to replicate the factory seams/switching. We added back the factory "Nautique" switched into a few of the seats. Per Chris' recommendation, we replaced the foam of the main seat which is stepped on when people board with a high-density foam. It was the only factory seat in my boat which had a tear and should hold up much better now. I really enjoyed working with Grateful Threads and recommend them for any upholstery project. read more

I went to Chris with just some ideas I had for the motorcycle seat and he was very helpful on designing a final pan shape and foam to go with. He made my thin seat as comfortable as it can get (memory foam) and topped it off with some fine stitching. My ONE star rating is strictly based on the estimate I received from Grateful Threads. I sent them detailed photos and dimensions of the cushions I needed recovered. I removed them from the boat, promised to deliver them and pick them up. I also agreed to supply the fabric and all materials, I simply needed labor. Their estimate was $3,500. (Half of this job would require only a scissors and a staple gun or glue.) Compared to the 8 other quotes I received based on the exact same email I sent out... Chris was $1,900 HIGHER than everyone else.... yes, double of the next lowest quote. It was almost comical to see his estimate. Anyways... he might do the best work in Austin, I have no idea... but nobody is worth 2x as much as everyone else. read more
