Over the weekend I tore the Top on my VW Thing. It was about 8in tear. Great quality install for a reasonable price. Jeff noticed some issues with my top assembly, and did a few adjustments and extra work to make it fit better and last longer. You can definitely tell he has tons of experience working on tops. Scheduling was easy, and I was in the shop in just a few days. I bought the top online and brought it with me. It's a bit out of the way for a central Austin person, but most body shops are way North anyway. I would consider riding the express bus next time after dropping the car. I love my car like a wee child. So imagine the heartbreak I suffered on a recent Monday morning when I walked out to find some BASTARD had sliced through the top to steal...drumroll...nothing. I was devastated and in a murderous rage. My car, defaced, for no reason! It was all a bit overwhelming. But my insurance company recommended this place, and my gosh I'm so glad they did. It's located on Lamar on auto row next to a bunch of other car repair type places and a Chuy's. It's a blink and you'll miss it sort of place. Inside it looks like it's 1972. Doesn't matter. These guys were adorable and so friendly. They were totally honest with me about the best parts for the money, they did amazing work and they did it fast. They open at 5:30am. I KNOW, I couldn't believe it either. Anyways, I hope you never, ever have to use these guys. But if you do, or if you have other convertible top repair needs, I highly, highly recommend this place. I read these reviews and hoped they weren't faked. Seemed too good to be true. The Audi dealer wanted $7K to replace the top on my 2006 A4 because the back window had come unglued. I kid you not. I called Jeff at Jim's Top Shop. He told me to go online, buy a top, and he'd put it on. I didn't believe him. Finally, after hearing crazy estimates, I took the chance. My 07 Mustang's tan vinyl top had reached the end of it's life when the back glass started to come off (almost 10 years out of the top, so not complaining). I read all the other reviews about Jim's Top Shop and it sounded good. I called, and as others have said, he suggested buying the top online, and once it's delivered call him back and set a date for service. I dropped the car off with the convertible top package in the passenger seat and later that day picked up my car with the newly installed stayfast cloth convertible top. Great service and straight to the point business. Payed with cash and he gave me a receipt. Done. Would extremely recommend him for a convertible top install. read more

Great place. A little plastic cap on my top broke rendering the entire mechanism useless. I bought the part and they put it on for free in a minute. Although I'm good with cars, it would have taken some time for me to get the part in just right. So I went back to them when my rear window needed replacement. Much cheaper than replacing the entire top which is what the dealer was recommending. Once again, they did great work. read more

I took a piece of leather to repair my arm rest on my BMW. The original estimate was 40 dollars. After several weeks I get a call stating the piece that I had brought in was too big for the arm rest, so the owner said he could make a new one and it would be cheaper in the end. After several more weeks he called and said my arm rest was ready. When I asked him what the bill was he said 110 dollars. I almost went into shock. Instead of making a complete new cover why not use the one I had brought and cut it t size. The craftsmanship was really good but the drastic difference in price was not necessary. I feel he overpriced my arm rest because it was out of a BMW. I will not use this shop again. read more

Coming up on 9 months since the job was done, and the work is still holding up very well. There's normal wear & tear and stretching of the fabric (which they said would occur regardless), but on the whole I'm still quite satisfied with the work. Keep Austin Weird. Then Keep Austin Local. read more
