I've been babying my zippy Mini Cooper for 14 years and it barely has 40k miles on it. It gallops like new. I inherited my Grandmother's 100+ year old piano which she personally upholstered in a cream colored vinyl when she was 17. He seemed rather undaunted by the prospect of upholstering a piano! And he did a GREAT job! I couldn't be happier with how it came out. He was extremely fast (had it maybe 2 weeks) and i it was reasonably priced as well. Mr. Cardenas is one of those local guys who makes me happy that I live in Austin. He won't win Mr. Congeniality, but his gruff demeanor belies the heart of a true artist who takes serious pride in his work. I hemmed and hawed about reupholstering a few chairs because of the high hassle factor and price tag that comes with changing out the fabric. When I called Cardenas Upholstery, I was pleasantly surprised by how easy and affordable it was. Mr. Cardenas and I spoke on the phone, I sent him an email with photos of each chair from various angles, and he called me back 20 minutes later with an estimate of how much fabric I needed and how much it would cost to redo each piece. Admittedly, reupholstery is a pricey endeavor, but Mr. Cardenas charges at least 30% less than other shops around town. I dropped off the first chair on Monday and was amazed when he called on Thursday to say it was ready. The workmanship is beautiful. Every tuft, bit of welting, cushion zipper, and tricky 1960s skirt fold was executed perfectly. I'm heading back there this week with a beloved wingback and keep looking around the house to see if anything else needs some spiffing up. read more

Santiago and his crew are absolute Artisans in Upholstery Renewal process. I had them re-upholster the Seat Cushions and Backs of the two front seats and the rear seat cushion along with replacing the Carpets in the Car. I also had him re-Upholster the Arm Rest between the front Seats. The interior looks like new now!!!! Don Santiago Cardenas and his crew worked hard and did beautiful work on Beacon Hill Collection dining room chairs. He recommended where I would have a selection of excellent quality and beautiful designs for upholstery fabrics. He saw that the chairs had horse hair and worked it in since he said it helps when one is seated for a while, one does not get hot but remains cooler and more comfortable. He got 6 dining room chairs and 2 armchairs re-upholstered in about one and a half days, instead of the 3 to 4 he had originally stated. I'm a fan of the Cardenas family and their wonderful service and craftsmanship. Here's my story. As a do-it-yourselfer, I figured I could just google how to upholster a set of kitchen chairs and everything would come out roses. I bought fabric and ordered cushions from somewhere else, and dug into the project. After trying to upholster the first of six kitchen chairs, I had a big mess on my hands, as well as a good piece cut out of my expensive new fabric. I called the Cardenas, and they said bring it and they would look at it. No promises. I tossed everything into my van and headed there. When I arrived, I endured the scornful looks, and the shaking of heads, and the tsk tsk-ing at the upholstery disaster I had caused. I asked if I was in trouble. ; ) Mr. Cardenas obviously thought I was an idiot, but he cleared a large table, grumbled about having 20 tape measures in the place, and never one handy, unrolled my fabric bolt, and counted the yards left. (I had even cut it on the bias, so I knew I'd eaten up a good portion.) I stood there sheepishly, awaiting the verdict. Finally, he stood up and gave me a withering once-over. "We can do it," he said. When he quoted me the price per chair I did a little happy dance to my car and helped unload the rest of them. A few days later, I picked up the finest looking wrought iron kitchen chairs you ever saw. They are comfortable, beyond beautiful, the piping is precise around the cushion edge, and not a seam shows. Cardenas Upholstery has done two different reuphostery jobs for me - they recovered some cushions for my 1960's wood frame sofa, and most recently they recovered some vintage chrome and upholstered Thayer Coggin chairs that I got on Craigslist. They did a great job - I would use them again in a second. I got several quotes from other people in town and the other quotes ranged from $150-200 or more per chair. Cardenas charged $75 per chair and got the job done in two days. Their work looks great and I'm very happy. Just to note - their shop is definitely a hole in the wall...so don't be scared. This place was by far the most affordable and advised on how much fabric to purchase perfectly. They took the project very seriously. It seems a little unusual upon first glance but they are actually as professional as they come. They were also careful about keeping the original chair cover and all additional fabric so I could use it for making matching pillows. The person you talk to might not be the one who delivers the work so any specific seam finish or detail should be carefully described. They don't take credit cards but did take a personal check. This is mainly because they do not specialize in automotive, however, they were willing to give my project a shot. They suggested that I check out Cardenas and see if they could compete the project. Cardenas didn't even flinch. I was very impressed with the pricing, expertise, and quick turnaround I received. I was able to wait as my seat was repaired and it only took about 30 minutes. The craftsmanship and the pricing were spot on. I'll definitely be using them for all of my upholstery needs from now on. I highly suggest these guys. After reading several Yelp reviews about Cardenas Upholstery, we decided to go with them right away! We had a wingback chair and ottoman to have reupholstered for our baby's nursery. We knew it was going to come at a cost but we already had the chair and figured we would use it in our home or years to come (a baby glider, not so much). I called them up and asked them the easiest way to get a price quote. They asked me to email them some pictures and they would get back to me. I received a very fast response with a price quote and an estimate of how much fabric to purchase. Honestly, the hardest part of the process was deciding on a fabric! I emailed them back and forth several times asking for suggestions on fabric type, estimated time the job would take, etc. They always responded quickly and politely. They estimated it would take 3-5 days to complete. We dropped it off on a Tuesday morning and they called us on Friday that it was ready to be picked up!!! The best part of the whole experience was the service they offered when we were unable to pick it up. My husband was out of town until the following Thursday and being 8 months pregnant, there was no way I could get it! (Regardless, I couldn't lift that chair myself!). When we called to tell them we wouldn't be able to get it for several more days, they offered to deliver it to us! This is NOT part of their regular service, understandably so, but given our dilemma (and my excitement to see the finished product), they delivered it to our home about 5 minutes away from their location and even placed it in the nursery for me! They were so sweet in person (only my husband had met them prior) and even asked about our soon-to-be baby. :-) (This makes every new mom melt, right?) They brought us back our leftover fabric (only abut a yard). And the chair is BEAUTIFULLY done! I would absolutely recommend their services and would use them again in a heartbeat. I always say I am going to write positive Yelp reviews for people but this was the first time I actually made the time to do it....they were THAT great! On the phone he keeps saying it's better for you to buy a new set. I ignored his comments. He didn't even seen my furniture how could he advise me to buy a new set. I asked him for a rough estimate for the job. He wanted me to email him photos of the furniture which I did immediately. Few days passed no answer. I called him back.
