I was having it re-upholstered (by Jose at Austin Furniture Upholstery), and Jose discovered It was practically falling apart. He directed me to Robert for restoration. With Robert's magic (and soon Jose's final upholstery), our rocker will remain a family treasure for generations to come. Thank you, Robert! You are my go-to person for all future projects.

The finish on the kitchen table had become very sticky over the years and there didn't appear to be any easy way to get that fixed. Over time, the extra extensions for the table had even faded to a slightly different shade. Robert at Austin Woodwright gave us a really good assessment, stated what he could do, and gave us a couple of alternatives for the finish. Several weeks later, the table was done and was gorgeous. The table top and extensions looked like new, same shade, and a nice hard lacquered finish (he told us what he used, but I forget now). Anyway, thumbs up. We'll be bringing some other pieces down over the coming months. For what it's worth, this type of service can be pricey, but the work, the result, and the service were worth it. Finally, to say this place is hidden off the road is an understatement.. the road sign is very small, and it's very easy to drive by on the way south. The shop is back off the road in a little turn-about with several other small businesses.

My experience with Accent Upholstery was stellar. First of all, I had a small job which is hard to…read morefind people interested in solving. Second, I had two large and heavy sofas that were damaged during a move so I wanted a house call. Those are diametrically opposed objectives; I understood that. With Accent Upholstery it was not a problem. I first contacted Austin Upholstery Studio since they had such great Yelp ratings. They promptly responded saying they couldn't help but recommended Accent. I appreciated that. So, I sent photos to the email on the Accent Upholstery website and got a prompt reply about what they thought the issue was and how they might go about fixing it. Kim, the creative stitchery technician, said she could come out, see if they could fix it and she could be prepared to do the work if they could . We agreed on a time that worked , she arrived ontime , said she could fix it , did an amazingly beautiful and detailed job and charged me the minimum fee she quoted. I am very happy! My sofas are repaired. I didn't have to hassle with a move of the furniture risking further damage, Kim did meticulous repair, she was pleasant and didn't make a mess, she was nice to our puppy(!). What a great organization! I would definitely use them again and I can recommend them and I am really very picky so you know it's got to be REALLY good!

I hired Scott Duncan of the Woodist to finish the cabinets in my home during a renovation and I…read moreseverely regret the decision. At the onset of project, I actually asked Scott if the job was within his wheelhouse as I sensed he was somewhat lacking in knowledge and skill during our consultation. However Scott assured me he could easily handle the installation and claimed he had significant experience with similar projects. In retrospect, this was an exaggeration at best and more likely an outright falsehood and misrepresentation. The cabinetmaker, Classic Design Cabinets in Elgin, delivered the cabinets to Scott and organized them by room as the job spanned multiple spaces within my home. When Classic Design Cabinets visited him again for a second delivery later, they found the previous delivery scattered across Mr. Duncan's shop in a completely disorganized fashion. Sensing the potential issues this could pose for my installation, they offered to help Scott reorganize the pieces. He only scoffed at them and rebuffed their effort. They actually contacted me to express their concern for his utter lack of organization and professional competence. Then came the actual installation, which was plagued by substandard workmanship and lacking in every sense of professionalism. The issues were numerous and glaringly evident. My kitchen cabinets were supposed to be clear coat only, but Scott failed to sand them between coats or even fill the nail holes, leaving unsightly pockmarks and defects visible. Even the painted cabinets in my laundry room have visible quality issues because he didn't sand properly between coats or fill any nail holes. His utter disorganization led to some doors being installed on the incorrect cabinets or lacking the correct paint. To add insult to an already painful injury, it took him 6 months to even complete his inferior work. Throughout the process Scott was constantly regurgitating excuse after excuse for the slow pace and shoddy workmanship. When I attempted to raise concerns about the "finished product" he got extremely angry and hung up on me. Scott even went as far as to show up my house, unannounced, demanding payment for the terrible work under the influence of alcohol. Talk about unprofessional! I would not recommend Scott Duncan of the Woodist to anyone for cabinetwork. He was not capable of the job and his poor workmanship is now a constant reminder of the regrettable decision of hiring him. Even worse, his lack of professionalism and inability to communicate with his client were startling. If you want my honest opinion, run, run fast.
