we ate here today while visiting from out of town. Super cute place with a boutique next door to browse while you wait for a table. We went on Saturday about 1:15 and had to wait about 30 minutes as it was packed! I am vegan and had heard they had vegan offerings, and they were very good about working with me to make sure I had what i needed. I had their hummus and a lovely quinoa salad, which was accompanied by a field green salad and a wonderful basil dressing. My boyfriend, who is NOT vegan, had beef tenderloin that was cooked perfectly. Parking was tricky as they had a foot of snow and it was piled around the edges, but it was well worth it. read more

Definitely a drive-by if you don't know what you are looking for, Leaping Lizard was a pleasant surprise. There were three if us early on a Saturday evening. No wait. Greeted by the host immediately and taken to our reserved table. Decor was unique...very well done. Menu was not overwhelming but had something for everyone. The good was very appealing to the eye and delicious. Karress was our server and was well versed with the menu and drink selection. My husband and I met a friend here for lunch. I had a magnificent burger called a Hunter Burger. It was a mix of lamb, pork and beef made on a house bun with carmelized onion and a mustard aioli. We are big fans of Diners, Drive-In's and Dives, and the episode featuring The Leaping Lizard is actually the one that made us want to spend our honeymoon in the area. Us being from Kentucky, we hadn't actually eaten at any of the restaurants featured on Triple D, so we were very excited to get to eat here. We went around 2 o'clock during the week. The place was a little crowded, but most of the patrons were sitting outside. We elected to go inside, due to the heat. I had the Turkey BLT, and it was absolutely phenomenal. My wife had the Turkey Wrap, and it was also great. My wife normally never eats potato salad, but The Leaping Lizard's take on the side item made her rave, even two weeks later. We shared a piece of the cappuccino fudge for dessert, and I'm normally not a big fan of fudge, but it was GOOD. You could easily tell that the food was made with the fresh, local ingredients they claim. This was the best meal we had during our 4-night stay in Virginia Beach, as well as the cheapest, and we ate at several different places that are highly regarded on Urban Spoon. If I were visiting Virginia Beach again and could only pick one restaurant, it would be The Leaping Lizard 100% of the time. Go check it out, you won't regret it! read more

Saw this place on Diners, Drive-In's, and Dives and was very excited to try it out when visiting family in Virginia last week. I really wanted to try either the BBQ Duck or the Chicken Salad as the show made them both look great! Duck wasn't on the menu this time of year but the Chicken Salad was. The bread was good but the sandwich itself just didn't have much flavor at all. My mom had ordered the BBQ beef (bland and chewy) just because the menu had stated it came with one of the sweet potato biscuits (which we also wanted to try), her meal came out and it was a steak! When asking the server about the biscuit, she had said it didn't come with that meal and they aren't sold separately. When we told her that is not what the menu said. She told us that we ordered the wrong thing, she ultimately corrected the meal but then the biscuit served with it was really small and rock hard. Overall, disappointed. The atmosphere is charming, but the food is not worth it in my opinion. read more

My husband got the striper special...he got the tail which was mostly the bloodline and very little fish. It tasted awful, as did the vegetable medley. The couscous was delicious. I had a special chicken salad. There were four small strips of chicken, four slices of cucumber and four slices of tomato. The candied pecans were good but I had to ask for more vinaigrette and the Gorgonzola cheese....VERY sparse. After I got those it was delicious but for $13 I would expect more chicken. read more

Blueberry monitors are awesome! This place is small but quaint. I love that they grow their own produce in the back. Their hummus is the best I have had around Virginia Beach. I haven't been disappointed in the food. Their sandwiches are very good and adequately portioned. read more

What a quirky, fun place. The whole experience is unique. On top of a restaurant, they grow produce in the back, have a small chicken coop (which can't possibly produce all the eggs they need), and a short walking trail to the lake behind the restaurant. Occasionally a couple of doggos are running about in the backyard, too. The menu itself is also eclectic, but I've not regretted a single thing so far. The staff is kind and friendly. read more

This was the best lunch in VA Beach! Such a cute setting and the hospitality was exceptional. I ordered the mushroom, artichoke, and fresh moz sandwich on delicious Rosemary bread. The potato salad was very unique and my favorite recipe I've tasted (I will certainly be trying to replicate it when I get home!). Everything was so delicious that I ordered the hummus wrap to go for my meal in the plane back home. Much healthier and more flavorful than anything I could grab in the airport. It was made with curried yogurt and a peach chutney, which made an interesting combination. The sweet potato biscuit with ham and peach jam was ok, but had a weird after taste. A nice surprise. Felt like I was in a small mountain cottage, with food fresh off the farm. Finally stopped in here to take my mother in law out to lunch. I got the cheesy melt and the fresh mozzarella was fantastic. My daughter got the grilled cheese and actually ate all of it (eventually), which NEVER happens. I talked to an owner and she said that everything is made in house, and you can really tell! I had not been here since approximately 2007. I decided to venture back for a Sunday brunch with my wife. I had the half tuna sandwhich and a ham and bean soup. The tuna sandwhich was outstanding. Great fresh bread and large chucks of tuna. It was worth the 20 minute wait for a table. The service was excellent. First time and last time here. Our dining experience was a birthday brunch with a group of friends and kids. I am not sure what all the hype and rave in the reviews are all about, (maybe I had high expectations) but my experience was bad. Let me just say my coffee cup had a fresh lipstick mark on the rim and dried drips of coffee. Gross x2. Second cup...dried coffee drips again. Made me go "hmmmm" the entire time. I wonder how clean the kitchen is? oh geeze, when did they last sanitize...anything? Food wise, the menu is weak hipster. The pancakes are not pancakes and the kids menu is a joke.
