a container of food and a glass of beer

Checked out this food truck on a Friday. It was parked outside 33 Acres Brewing company. I ordered the tuna kimbap which came with a side of Brussel sprouts and one piece of crispy chicken as well as one order of fried mochi ($5). First of all, delicious!!! I finished everything. The service is quick too. It's fresh, flavorful and worth the price. The mochi was a savory flavor, worth a try. The crispy chicken that came with the kimbap had a nice kick to it. Highly recommend checking out this food truck. They move to a different spot each day. Check out their Instagram to know their location of the day. They open at 11:30am. I suggest you get there before the lunch rush hour. This spot had a line which I observed while enjoying my kimbap and mochi. Can't wait to try more items from here.

    Angry kitty squares

When I first tried Le Tigre, I loved it. The miso chowder was amazing and the fried beets were the best that I ever had. I would have easily given them a 5/5 if I had Yelp back then. Anyways, I found out that Le Tigre parks in Railtown for lunch on Wednesdays so I decided to take a short walk (14 minutes) to grab my favourite kitty squares as a snack! The lineup to pay went by fairly quickly (5 minutes?) but the wait for my food took a bit longer (10 minutes). I was so excited to stuff myself with kimchi fried rice cubes but after a few seconds of chewing, I was utterly disappointed. I'm sure that their fried beets and miso chowder are still amazing but the fact that my kitty squares were rock hard kinda made me sad. Normally, they are fried to perfection and oh so crispy when I bit down onto the chewy snack but for some strange reason, this time it just .... stuck to my teeth. After eating two squares, I legitimately had a tooth problem and couldn't get the rice unstuck! I also felt that there was a lot more oil at the bottom of my container that usual. Unfortunately, my lunch break was almost over so I did not have any time to go back to the cart to make a comment on my rock hard kitty squares. Perhaps it was only my order that was screwed up because there were still a plethora of people gathered around the food truck! Anyways, the first time I had food at Le Tigre, it was at the Steveston Farmers Market last year and I was mind blown at how my friend somehow convinced me to like beets. The most current experience took place in April this year I believe and I haven't been back since. If I do go back, I'll probably try their kick ass rice and hopefully update my review with some redemption!

After all these time, I was finally able to try Le Tigre (at the Winter Farmers Market). And I'm a HUGE fan! + "The eat street" Shao Bing, with it's deliciously tender braised beef, cabbage slaw, cilantro, basil and szechuan sauce in a flaky pastry bun. Mmm mmm goodness! + "That "Fricken" Chicken, is Le Tigre's marinated deep fried chicken nuggets, with chillies, garlic and shallots, served with delicious, spicy Nam Jin sauce.

This food truck is awesome. Affordable and delicious, with off-the-wall dish names to boot. Check out the *crack salad*. Don't think that tiny box is enough? Think again. It's packed enough flavor for you to think you're actually doing crack (not that I have any experience) - but it's truly *that* good. I've stared at my salad box so many times, stumped as to what the magic juju might be. My verdict: capers, which I don't traditionally see outside of seafood dishes. (Photo: http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/le-tigre-cuisine-richmond?userid=QRXi8kYBxHWZxcYXLx0MLw#ZkmToIXj_Lp-202UrhSD2Q) My other fave: kick a** rice. I'll be hard pressed to find a food truck that offers up a dish with a large enough serving that'll hold u over until the next day (I fast from time to time), but the kick a** rice does it. A bed of tangy rice, melt-in-your mouth pork belly (chicken / veggie are fab too!), a perfectly soft boiled egg (swoon), add some sriracha and you've got yourself a fiiine lookin' meal. (Photo: http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/le-tigre-cuisine-richmond?userid=QRXi8kYBxHWZxcYXLx0MLw#4ytEWYz6nGVMPCeyzlYsRQ) Note: I've had the fricken chicken (tasty) and famous beet fries (tasty), big bang beans (ordinary)...but that's not what this 5 star review's about. Its about what Le Tigre does well, and what makes me look forward to the farmer's market. I mean, there's a good reason why they have a huge line up *every time* I've been there. Cracked salad anyone?

I had the kick as rice with pork belly, Shao bing, beet fries and fricken chicken with spicy mayo. The egg in the kick ass rice was my favorite. I also really liked their beet fries and fricken chicken. The portions are decent size. If only they served beer with their fried eats :)

The Kick Ass Fried Rice with Pork Belly is simply...kick ass! The pork belly melts in your mouth and the fried rice is spicy/sweet, an amazing hybrid of flavours. Beets are disgusting, but Le Tigre has found a way to make them delectable! The exterior is crispy and full of flavour.

They were at Alberni & Bute today so I decided to try. I used my LivingSocial coupon that I bought for $10 and got $20 worth of food (I have dinner tonight, woo hoo). Steamed bun with pork - a ltitle soggy but good flavour. Angry Tiger rice balls - rice & bacon and spicy flavour - so delicious, can't go wrong! Dan Dan Wontons - totally tender wonton and lots of peanutty sauce, love it. Warm Brussell Sprout & Cauliflower salad - this was my fave! capers and lemon juice with parmesan cheese - I could have eaten pounds of it. All in all, one of my favourite food trucks in town.

Cauliflower and Brussel sprouts with lemon, capers parmesan, basil.

    * The Definition of Torpedo *…read more Urban Dictionary has multiple definitions or "Torpedo": - To betray, backstab, diss, or punk someone with the intent of causing harm to their reputation. - When objects or people look beautiful from far away, but dangerous or ugly up close. - A long turd. The menu sounded promising (although overpriced for a food truck) with some nice classic sandwiches on offer. I ordered the "mumia" ($12) - which I have to assume is a play on Mumia Abu-Jamal who is from Philadelphia, home of the cheesesteak? Anyhoo... The description was very cheesesteak like with sirloin beef, pepperjack cheese, sauteed onions and peppers. The addition of garlic aioli moved away from the classic as did the usage of pepperjack instead of provolone. When I unwrapped the sandwich, I was torpedoed with an excessive amount of a watery oily substance dripping all over the place. It got all over everything - not in a good way. Biting into the sandwich was the next torpedoing. The bread was stale. I don't mean day old. I mean stale. Next torpedo: the beef was chewy, gristly, and very oily. The peppers were the best part - but they too were overly oily. Basically each bite gave you a mouthful of stale bread, a piece of oily gristle flavoured by an oily pepper and a drippy oily substance (perhaps a broken aioli?). I couldn't eat the bread. Tried picking off the meat and veggies to eat, but gave up as they were too awful on their own. Photos: http://www.yelp.ca/biz_photos/tasty-torpedo-vancouver?select=aorGigi_39ldUheXPUynsQ#aorGigi_39ldUheXPUynsQ and http://www.yelp.ca/biz_photos/tasty-torpedo-vancouver?select=i8BEF8GCeNEZMql6nK1uYA#i8BEF8GCeNEZMql6nK1uYA So I'm left concluding that I was served an overpriced torpedo. In other words, I feel torpedoed that this food truck is a torpedo that serves torpedos!

There was a small line when I approached the truck initially but their service was quick giving customers their sandwich within about 2-4 minutes of order, not entirely sure what the standard is for food trucks but for me that's good. The lady up front taking the orders was very friendly and was happy to help answer our questions. They only offered a few options but what I had to try was the jerk chicken sandwich as I had stopped a girl just minutes before and attempted to waft hers. Again service was fairly quick and I receive my sandwich within a few minutes. I don't think the picture I've posted will do it any justice but this baby was a beauty. The bun tasted quite fresh and almost melted in my mouth, the chicken and enough spice and flavour and the rest was just bomb. It is quite filling I found which is what you're looking for, good bang for buck. Definitely gonna track these down every time I'm downtown. Amazing experience for my taste buds.
