* The Definition of Torpedo * Urban Dictionary has multiple definitions or "Torpedo": - To betray, backstab, diss, or punk someone with the intent of causing harm to their reputation. - When objects or people look beautiful from far away, but dangerous or ugly up close. - A long turd. The menu sounded promising (although overpriced for a food truck) with some nice classic sandwiches on offer. I ordered the "mumia" ($12) - which I have to assume is a play on Mumia Abu-Jamal who is from Philadelphia, home of the cheesesteak? Anyhoo... The description was very cheesesteak like with sirloin beef, pepperjack cheese, sauteed onions and peppers. The addition of garlic aioli moved away from the classic as did the usage of pepperjack instead of provolone. When I unwrapped the sandwich, I was torpedoed with an excessive amount of a watery oily substance dripping all over the place. It got all over everything - not in a good way. Biting into the sandwich was the next torpedoing. The bread was stale. I don't mean day old. I mean stale. Next torpedo: the beef was chewy, gristly, and very oily. The peppers were the best part - but they too were overly oily. Basically each bite gave you a mouthful of stale bread, a piece of oily gristle flavoured by an oily pepper and a drippy oily substance (perhaps a broken aioli?). I couldn't eat the bread. Tried picking off the meat and veggies to eat, but gave up as they were too awful on their own. I've never seen these guys around Vancouver until I went to the food cart fest this past Sunday. I must say their logo catches your eye and if you say you've got epic sandwiches you've definitely caught my attention. There was a small line when I approached the truck initially but their service was quick giving customers their sandwich within about 2-4 minutes of order, not entirely sure what the standard is for food trucks but for me that's good. The lady up front taking the orders was very friendly and was happy to help answer our questions. They only offered a few options but what I had to try was the jerk chicken sandwich as I had stopped a girl just minutes before and attempted to waft hers. Again service was fairly quick and I receive my sandwich within a few minutes. I don't think the picture I've posted will do it any justice but this baby was a beauty. The bun tasted quite fresh and almost melted in my mouth, the chicken and enough spice and flavour and the rest was just bomb. It is quite filling I found which is what you're looking for, good bang for buck. Definitely gonna track these down every time I'm downtown. Amazing experience for my taste buds. read more

I've seen these guys parked outside Parallel 49 and Brassneck a few times, and their sandwiches are always amazing. They're $8 for a smaller size and $12 for a HUGE sandwich. (Like, leftover-worthy.) I'm vegetarian and my cousin is vegan, and their Aphrodite sandwich (roasted peppers, marinated zucchini, house-made hummus, feta, and aoli on fresh crusty ciabatta) works perfectly for both of us. Last time we split a full size and they made one side with dairy for me and extra hummus as a topping for her in lieu of cheese and aoli - we were both in heaven! (Especially paired with P49's radler, yasss). Their delicious sandwiches are matched with the friendly and outgoing manner of their staff. I have to say, last time I was in lineup I listened in to their window girl describing the process they use to make their jerk chicken to another customer and it was incredibly painstaking and labour-intensive. Meat's not my thing, but I have a lot of respect for any food company or restaurant that goes through that much effort to produce a quality product by hand. I will keep looking out for this truck in my neighbourhood (the street food app is really good for pinpointing mobile vendors!) and grabbing a sandwich along with my growler whenever possible. read more

this sandwich is delish , huge and a a must have before you die! except no other Steak was tender and well flavored. Sauce flavorful and fresh, bread soft and fluffy. the staff is fun and informative .i just had the mumia and i loved it. I don't even know where to start with these guys... It all started one Friday night when I decided to stop at Steel and Oak for a beer after a long day. When I got there, my friend that works there told me that I HAVE to try a sandwich from the truck out back - this was followed by enthusiastic nods from many of the other staff and customers in the tasting room. I did not need much convincing as I was starving and good ole sammie sounded pretty damn good at that point. I headed out back and instantly noticed the sweet artwork of the truck. Once I gave myself a few moments to admire the wicked design, I turned my attention to the menu. Each sandwich sounded amazing, so it was a hard choice to make. I had my eye on the "Ya Mon", and Chris, the owner of the truck solidified this decision by explaining the unbelievable process they go through to make this sandwich as good as it is. That had made it impossible to say no. He rang my order through and told me to go enjoy my beer - he would bring the sandwich in when it was ready - That is pretty exceptional service for a food truck! As a first time customer, I felt valued and appreciated - something that goes a long way for me. For $12, any of these sandwiches are well worth the money - I could not even finish the damn thing - even though I really wanted to - it was SO DAMN GOOD! I have been back many a times since that night, and have tried the majority of the menu items. I have never had a bad experience - I don't want to say that each sandwich that I have tried has been better than the last, because they are all on par with one another - they are all exceptional. I do have to say, I think the Revolution is my current favorite though! From the fresh local ingredients, and awesome design, to the witty banter, and exceptional customer service - these guys have it all. You will not be disappointed with anything that you try from this truck, and the guys and girls that run the truck will make the experience more than worth it. read more

Two offerings at a food truck sampler session today: the Yamon (jerk chicken) and Mumia (sirloin steak). The bread used is a fresh sandwich roll, with fresh coleslaw inside. They added their gourmet hot sauce and both offerings were scrumptious. The portion size is 2-3x what I think would constitute a nice non-sedating meal. I think the jerk chicken could have used a bit more jerk spice, but overall I'm impressed at this tasty relative newcomer. These guys come to railtown every Thursday and I have to say of the food trucks they are one of my fav. I'm restricted to a gluten free lifestyle and they've got a great option- the jerk chicken is tasty- the guys and gals bring a great vibe to the neighbourhood and remember their regulars. I eat there today had 3 different sandwich all three were great the jerk chicken was real jerk flavour nice cole slaw beautiful bun all organic soft loved it beef was also really good but I would have to say the veal parmigiana blew me away one of the best I've had and I lived in Newyork for over 10 years so I've tried a lot going back to more for round 2 good job guys actually next time I'll ask to make me a custom one with. I'm a picky eater and was hesitant to try a food truck in the first place, but I am very happy I tried Tasty Torpedo. Their vegetarian sandwich was amazing with homemade hummus (some of the best hummus I have ever had) and delicious grilled veggies. My friends had the other meat options and were equally impressed. I highly recommend these yummy and filling sandwiches. I will definitely be going back! read more
