As everyone says, the food here is amazing, both in its presentation and flavor, and the service, flawless. Plus the portions are not huge, but you won't leave hungry, as can happen sometimes with French restaurants. Took off one star though because the atmosphere is a bit too formal for my taste. Though the staff is too well trained to hover over patrons, I couldn't help feeling that there were a thousand eyes watching every move I made and every crumb I dropped! Plus the hushed voices and plain décor created a sense of high seriousness, and I like to be a little more relaxed when I'm eating... Perhaps if we had been in some other city, I might have appreciated my experience here more, but there are just too many other fine dining establishments in Paris that I found more enjoyable. Taillevent is where food dreams truly do come true. On my recent trip to Paris, I knew I had to try at least one of the famed grand restaurants. There is no shortage of excellent dining in Paris, but there's an upper echelon of over-the-top gastronomic extravagance that I always dreamed of experiencing. With many fine restaurants to choose from, it was hard to select just one, but I landed on Taillevent and it was everything and more that I dreamed it could be. I selected a lunch visit; make sure you book far in advance. Entering into the refined foyer, I realized that we would be treated like kings the entire time. What struck me the most was how refined and elegant the service could be while at the same time being so warm and approachable. At no time was was anyone stuffy or snooty. For lunch, you can order a la carte (very expensive), or partake in the pre fixe lunch (3 courses for 88€, or 108€ with wine, water, and coffee). Yes, that's a lot of money, but it's honestly a bargain in the world of fine Michelin-star dining, and I can say without any hesitation that it was worth every penny. Dinner is significantly more expensive and many of the menu options are the same. I won't spend too much time on the specific items we ordered as the many changes daily, but be prepared to be wowed by a complex fusion of colors, textures, and flavors. The food is intricate but not fussy, and you will leave full. No minuscule portions here. Your lunch will include an amuse bouche, starter, main, dessert, mignardises, and lots of delicious bread. Here are some of my tips to make your visit perfect: - Dress up. Jackets are required. This is one of the most elegant dining rooms in Paris, so don your best suit. - Volume control. Americans tend to be much louder than the French in public. This is the kind of place where you'll want to use your library voice. - If you need to get up, say to go to the gold-plated bathroom, make eye contact with one of the waitstaff, and they will come to pull out your chair, open every door on your way there, and ensure you have a new linen napkin when you get back. The staff will panic a bit if you dart out, as you might end up opening a door yourself which they don't like (the horror!). - Ask questions! The staff are very friendly and approachable. I'm glad I asked a lot of questions because there was a fish dish that I saw at another table which looked boring to me and I'm glad I didn't order it. - Be patient. The service is efficient, but this is Paris, where fine dining is meant to be savored, not rushed. The lunch crowd generally arrives around 1:00PM; count on at least 2-3 hours for your visit. read more

My review of Taillevent is not about the food. Clearly it is excellent by any standards. Unhealthy, but delicious. My poor rating is for how rudely I was treated, first due to my handicap and then for my food allergies. If you like classic French food and are able to afford $500 to $600 for two then run don't walk to this place when in Paris. It was definitely my best dining experience and that includes Daniel's Per Se Inn at Little Washington and at the risk of dating myself Cote Basque La Caravelle and Lutece. The food is amazing a true art form lobster sausage served with a flavorful sauce infused with the juices of the crustacean. It's a formal setting with minimal decorations, high ceiling,spacious dining area and large tables, no crowding here with postage stamp tables. Dress accordingly. Has a large attentive friendly staff that conduct themselves with military precision. My wife and I are not wine devotees but the wine steward was very helpful in his advice. A device attached to the bottle prevents air from coming into contact with the wine and hence you can have wine by the glass from any bottle without having to buy the entire bottle. If you like classical French food served in a formal setting with a friendly attentive staff and have the Euros to afford it don't miss this place when in Paris. read more

It had been 18 years since we had visited Paris and our memory of dining at Taillevent stayed with us over the years so we booked a dinner reservation shortly after it reopened in August. Michelin dining is usually a superior experience- pricey but generally fabulous and Le taillevent did not disappoint! The dining room is contemporary and very hushed and the service is exemplary. The food- outstanding in both creative presentation and most important, flavor. Every course was so beautiful and we ate every bite- unlike another experience at a Michelin restaurant in Paris. This was one of the finest dining experiences I've ever had. Service was impeccable, but friendly. The staff was comfortable in both French and English and were both helpful and attentive. The tasting menu was incredible from start to finish. There was nothing served that was not both delicious and innovative. A very expensive meal, but worth every Euro. The ambiance was comfortable and elegant, the patrons sophisticated, and the staff perfectly trained. I found no fault with any aspect of the dining experience including their handling of our request for a copy of the menu. What a wonderful restaurant. My wife and I enjoyed one of our best dinners ever, anywhere in the world. We both ordered the pre fixe menu of nine courses and each dish was supreme. Wine list was also incredible. We have dined all around the world. By far this is the finest and most elegant dining experience we have ever had! The service was impeccable and charming, attentive but pleasantly aloof. The food was incredible. We had the tasting menu and highlights were the crab dish, fish, risotto, cheeses and dessert. Every course had us pausing to savor the texture and flavor.
