We needed to escape the heat and needed a good place with WiFi and this was the recommendation. However, the AC wasn't that cold and the WiFi expired after :15! Good place for breakfast if you are local to the Gare de L'Est area of Paris. Had the Pancakes with Maple Syrup with Bananas and Pecans and a side of Bacon. Did not disappoint. Wife had the Toast with scrambled eggs and tomatoes and sun dried tomatoes. She tells me the Latte is fabulous. Give it a try if you are near. My family visited The Place to... while in Paris for the Olympics and I'm about to tell you why this place is a treasure and now a landmark for us. Maria! The food is fantastic, from the tartare and Onion soup apps to the main courses. We are here twice during our 5 day stay. It's a convenient stroll downhill on Wagram or a super short flat walk from Ternes station. The ambiance is relaxing both indoor or outdoors. And our most honored review goes to Maria. We forget a bag with a couple of bottles of perfume and had left home back to the States. After retracing our steps through pictures we pinned the last known location as The Place to... We contacted them through Yelp and Maria let us know that they had them and would that she would mail them to us. Woah!!! What?! In the States good luck getting someone honest enough to say they had them much less taking their time and care to package and ship them. Maria! Maria! Maria! She is reason enough to dine here. Honestly folks, if a persons integrity shines within the employees away from the food you can expect the same honest care to be present in the handling and preparation of what you absolutely enjoy eating. The Place To holds a special place in my heart, having been one of my favorite restaurants when I lived in Paris back in 2015. But I was so so happy to find the food hasn't changed one bit! The menu has a bit of everything, but the risotto is still my absolute favorite in the city. The vibe is young and trendy, and the prices are super reasonable. Their down-to-earth menu options plus a glass of wine are a respite in what can be a big tourist trap area. Best of all, gluten free is clearly marked on the menu! Stunningly, even by French standards, inefficient. 40m to get a standard breakfast menu (formule petit dej) consisting of a croissant, a piece of bread, OJ, and coffee. Unbussed tables everywhere. After 30m we asked where our breakfast was and we were asked if we wanted to order. Adding enormous insult to injury they flipped the resto into brunch mode and all the people who were online for the 1130 start brunch (which started at 1150) buffet came in and were serving themselves what we'd been waiting for. Worse, I asked a server and he then he did nothing so waited 10m more, and then went to the maitre d' who was "shocked" despite standing 2 meters from us at the podium and could easily see we had nothing. This was the only place in Paris that we actually ate at twice. I could probably stop my review there and you would get the point, but I'll go on. First, the best part about this place was the atmosphere, it was casual and inviting. It was a very comfortable place to go and we felt at home here which was a big part of why we went back. The food, however, was nothing to sneeze at either. We tried a variety of dishes in the two times we came and nothing disappointed. My wife happens to be gluten intolerant and they really understood the limitations and made excellent recommendations based on this. I would highly recommend this place to anyone with or without a gluten intolerance or celiacs. read more

Most of the servers are rude and the food quality doesn't match the price. The host on Sunday mornings is especially rude and has no place working in a restaurant. I was trying to ask him about getting a table and working and he told me all tables are reserved for brunch while that was clearly not the case. I then started asking about brunch and he became impatient and was finished helping me and walked away from me all together. Once seated (and left to seat ourselves - without any kind of welcome) we perused the sparse and unimaginative paper(?!) menu (could they scrimp anymore?) for over 15 minutes without so much as a glass of water being offered. Had we even been able to order our drinks - I caught one waiter's eye twice and still nobody came to take even our order - the selection of food was extortionately overpriced and predictable. The pommes frites were excellent. However, my burger arrived still bleeding. After sending it back for another round on the grill, the experience went downhill fast. The approximately-18-year-old waiter was aloof and inattentive from the beginning. But after sending the burger back, the manager decided to suddenly enforce a minimum number of drinks, which I obliged. In the end the bill came to €24 for a small glass of wine and a burger. Not sure why this place doesn't have more reviews, perhaps it's newish but it's by far the most interesting place I ate at during my last stay. I've been to Paris a few times and you honestly need a break from the French bistro cuisine from time to time (shhh, don't tell the Parisians!). Fantastic variety of meat, seafood and asian dishes. Tons of options for dietary restrictions and very trendy vibe (NYC meets Paris) which is a nice change from the classic restaurant interior design of Paris. Lovely and diverse coffee and tea menu. Perhaps the only place to get a frappe or freddo! Worth a taste! read more
