Le Restaurant located in the 4th arrondissement in Paris was, unfortunately, a disappointment. For the 1 Michelin star rating this restaurant boasts, I expected deliciousness, creativity, and impeccable service. The restaurant fell short in each of these criteria, in our experience. First, I think that it is a pretty important for servers to always ask about any allergies. As someone with a few food allergies, I notice when I am asked what my restrictions are. At just about every fine dining restaurant I have been to, I have been asked this question. But I was not asked at Le Restaurant and had to volunteer this information, so I took note of that almost immediately. Next, the food was just all right. I believe that Le Restaurant tries to "wow" with advanced cooking techniques, but at the expense of taste. When my husband and I dined there for dinner in June 2017, we opted for the tasting menu. There were at least four dishes which featured some sort of foam element, and a few that featured rhubarb. For a tasting menu, I am sorry to say that I generally expect something different from each dish, but that was not the case here. I definitely felt like there was almost too much continuity from dish to dish. There were no "surprises" from one dish to the next. Additionally, the tastes were just not that great. Many of the dishes had a multitude of elements to them which did not mesh well in my mouth. They were all decent flavors by themselves, but presented together, they mostly did not deliver. Even though Le Restaurant has both indoor and outdoor seating, you are pretty much always outside even if you ask for indoor seating. There is no true indoor seating because there is no divide between indoors and outdoors. Hard to explain, but IMO, this is unacceptable in the summer. During a heat wave, I was sweating through my pants while dining, even though I had "indoor" seating. Unfortunately, I concluded my meal at Le Restaurant feeling dissatisfied with the experience. Maybe it was a bad day because Michelin stars are rarely awarded. But they did not win me over with their first impression, so I will not be going back or recommending them for anyone who visits Paris. There are more worthy places. read more

Le Restaurant seems very fitting for my 500th review: one of the fanciest, most amazing and most expensive meals of my life! I don't usually visit restaurants of this caliber, so my review will have to be taken in the context of my naivete when it comes to Michelin-starred restaurants. The restaurant is in the L'Hotel hotel (creative names here), a 5-star hotel that just oozes understated exclusive luxury. It's small, it's exquisite and the entry to Le Restaurant is marked by two large green velvet curtains. The dining room is designed to be a sheltered courtyard with skylight windows, fresh greenery and outside light filtering in. There are only about 15 tables, so a reservation is a NECESSITY here. The decor is bohemian luxury: nothing matches, it's all velvet/velour/gold and tasteful with pops of bright colors here and there. Perfect for the mood of the hotel. I admired the taste of the interior designer on multiple occasions during the meal -- the whole atmosphere was a zany and creative while still maintaining refined luxury. Our chairs for dinner were plush upholstered lounge chairs, lending such an elegance to the meal. The service was flawless (except for the part where the end of the meal drags on forever and you have to flag someone down to pay the check...but this is simply a cultural difference). The servers spoke excellent English and made some excellent recommendations. The 5-course tasting meal that we selected was 110 euros per person (about $153 based on current exchange). The menu handed to the man had all the prices. Mine didn't have any! We started with two glasses of champagne that were so apropros to the setting! We decided that the suggested 3 glasses of wine with the meal would be too much, so we asked our waiter for suggestions and he suggested an amazing Saint Amour Pinot Noir from Burgundy. It was absolutely delicious -- light with a wonderful berry nose and forward fruit flavor. Ended dry though and was a perfect complement. The meal: Amuse-bouche: Cauliflower mousse. Amazing. Starter: King crab with avocado mousse. Light, flavorful, citrus hints, gorgeous presentation. One of my favorite dishes of the night. Starter: Turbot (apparently quite a prized fish indigenous to the North Atlantic and Mediterranean...first time having it...ridiculously good) perfectly prepared, melt-in-your-mouth..I don't remember the exact accompaniments except that it was phenomenal. Entree: Wild pigeon in beet puree. SO OUTSTANDING!!! I've never had pigeon and now my impression is that it's the most tender, lean, flavorful bird I've ever had. Like duck but much less fatty and more tender. Palate cleanser: Citrus sorbet. Refreshing! Cheese plate: Wow. Little sticks of sharp Etivaz with graces of apple slices and sage that added just the right pop. Super surprised by how wonderful it was. Dessert: Assortment of berries with fresh cream, raspberry mousse and deconstructed biscuit. A take on strawberry shortcake but sooo much more flavorful and light. Not heavy at all. After-dessert: A little plate of pink marshmallows and little pies and cakes. Summary: This meal will likely cost between $400-$500 for two people when the 5-course tasting and all the alcohol (we had a total of 2 glasses champagne and 4 glasses of wine) clock in. BUT IT'S WORTH IT! Like others say. Amazing. Prepare for 3 hours. Make sure you like your date!!! This is key. ;) read more

I am torn between a 3 and 4 so I am going to go with a 4 and here's why: Service: Outstanding. Each server has their own role, and are extremely attentive to the food that is ready in the kitchen, when to take your plate and silveware away, filling up your water or wine glass, and asking how everything is to your liking. Excellent service. You will feel like you are being treated as a queen or king dining here. They really go over the top to making your experience a special one. Kudos to them! Atmosphere: Intimate, romantic, a good spot for a date or evening to relax. Definitely dress up (not casual) or you will feel out of place. A jacket would look best for gentleman or at least a dress shirt and tie. Note: there is no requirement but you will want to wear accordingly. Reservations: Definitely make in advance. Located within L'Hotel in 6 district, and there are only 15 seats. Tables turn over no less than 2 hrs normally. Food: Here's where I am torn with a 3 and 4. Everything was good (not exceptional because I've had better in Paris), but we opted for the Chef's Tasting menu, and each dish had so much cream or moose that I was missing texture. It would be a mini piece of steak with purree something underneath and moose next to it. Then one dish would be scallops and again, a moose or purree item with it. Unfortunately, I was not overly impressed or wowed. I am sad to have missed that opportunity here, especially with so many great 5 star reviews. Now to continue with food: The flavors are a 4, the designs and plating are a 4.5, but please give me more textures and ideas to play with in my palette. To compare, I prefer Taillavent over Le Restaurant in this category. Le restaurant is more relaxed than Taillavent which I like better. I would definitely give this restaurant a try, but I was hoping for a better overall experience, especially with the Chef Tasting menu. Maybe perhaps I would have enjoyed it better had I ordered a la carte. Definitely give it a try. read more

An atmospheric dining room overlooking a beautifully lit courtyard with fountain. The service was outstanding, and they were practically throwing extra courses/complementary plates at us. I started with the Loctudy crab - this looked unique and odd to me at first, but the taste was something I'll never forget! DEFINITELY go for this. My main of choice was the guinea fowl, which was superb but not as memorable as it probably should be for the price. This place is almost hilariously old school - my boyfriend was given the menu with the prices, mine without :) I've never had that happen before! I asked for a table near the back (overlooking the courtyard) but be warned that it is really cold and so I had to keep asking the waiter to turn the heating up. read more

Dinner at Le Restaurant was one of the greatest meals -- and definitely the greatest foodie experience -- of my life. We had the surprise tasting menu with each course selected by the chef and described in perfect English upon arrival by the charming staff. Because I dined there several months ago I won't attempt to describe the various courses, except to note that even the courses that weren't necessarily to my taste were so distinctive and challenging that they didn't detract from the experience. My friend and I also opted for the wine pairing, and the selections so delicious that I attempted to find some of them when I returned to Virginia (unsuccessfully!). The decor is cozy and eclectic, perfect for dinner for two. I disagree with reviewers who've used the term pretentious -- I thought the restaurant was classy and elegant. The atmosphere was a bit quiet, but I won't detract a star for that. In fact, although I usually prefer a livelier atmosphere, it was nice to have a break from louder, more crowded venues. read more

My husband and I made reservations early on for New Year's Eve when we new we would be here in Paris. The service was impeccable from the time we entered the front door! This was going to be a great evening! There was only one menu which was a nine course with optional wine pairing and black truffle. I opted for the black truffle offering while my husband went for both. Course after course, they were exceptional!! Unique combinations with molecular gastronomy thrown in! The duck foie gras, Normandy Scallops, John Dory, lobster (this dish had lobster bisque foam), venison (exquisite!), etc. were stunning in presentation as well as flavor. A feast for the senses! The dining room was so elegant somewhat reminiscent of an early French Salon with lounge seating instead of the usual chairs. It was smaller than most restaurant dining rooms which made for an intimate dinner. Service as mentioned was top notch! Wine pairings were fantastic (based on my husband's comments). Wow. I should just end my review with that. We are here last week on our last night in Paris, and had already had many delicious meals while there. We had eaten at Bistros, cafes & other high end restaurant ( Jules Verme) but this was probably one of the top 5 meals in my life. Atmosphere: what a cool place. Velvet chairs that I couldn't stop petting under the table...I loved the mix of kitchy couches & benches, as well as the interplay of design & textures. Its a very romantic place, sit maybe 20 max. Loved it. Service: we were treated like royalty. And the timing & synchronous teamwork of the 3-4 servers who were constantly attentive to our needs, was wonderful. Our primary waiter was english-speaking & the others knew enough to describe each plate. Timing was perfect. Food: oh the food! You MUST get the tasting menu. At first, we saw things on the menu we had never had before or curled a lip at ( sweetbreads?) but we decided 'what the hell?' - try it! And were grateful we did. It changed our minds about several things. The chef's tasting menu ( 5 or 7 course), is the chef's choice, so you don't know what you will get. But every bite, every dish, was a piece of art, and I found myself setting my fork down frequently to elongate the meal. We had the 5 course, which we felt was PLENTY! The portions here, for a tasting menu, are larger than we have had before. Plus they give you a 'chef' appy for free, 2 palate cleansers & a 'pre-dessert' dessert ( what?!) Loved it. Booze: they didn't have wine pairings as suggested on the online menu that night, but the waiter did a great job at making suggestions. We also came early to have cocktail in the cool little lounge ahead of time, and they were some of the best cocktails I have ever had. And we live in San Francisco. Price: save up! This one will cost ya! Plan to spend $400+. But seriously, it was worth every penny, lasted 3 hours and this included 2 glasses of champagne, and 5 glasses of wine between us. And those cocktails we had in the bar? They accidently left it off the bill, and when we brought it up, the waiter simply shrugged it off and said its was 'his mistake' so not to worry about it. We have experienced fine dining in Nyc, London, Paris, Chicago and La -- and was recommend this spot by our concierge. Avoid at all costs. I knew there would be problems when we were seated and it was 15 minutes before our drink were ordered. We also requested sparkling water - twice - which never arrived. The food was ok - entre was a bit horrible. This is a tourist trap - service is just horrible. Food is meh and not creative. The waiter poured water into my filled wine glass - realized his mistake, but didn't replace my wine glass. Bugs flying around our table too! Beautiful space thought - one star for that. read more

BEST MEAL IN FRANCE, POSSIBLY BEST MEAL ~EVER~!!!!! Le Restaurant has 1 Michelin Star. Impressive right? But it deserves a higher rating. The French Laundry in Yountville, CA is a 3 star Michelin rated restaurant and yet my meal at Le Restaurant quite honestly kicked the crap out of my French Laundry experience. At $95 euros per person ($130 with 4 wines) it's quite a bargain in comparison. The restaurant itself is gorgeous. It has an upscale lounge feel and is just a space you want to be in. It's classy but not snooty. Service was very good. The waiters were professional, helpful and very fun. I chose to spend the extra $30 euros for the wine pairings and it was a wise decision. The wines they selected were exquisite and some were European varieties I was unfamiliar with. The food was beautifully presented but the flavor combinations and textures were just incredible. If you're going to do at least one nice meal in Paris, this is the restaurant to choose. It would be a fantastic choice for an anniversary or birthday dinner, or similar special occasion. read more

I enjoyed the tasting course at dinner. The atmosphere and the interior perfectly suite the romantic situations, although my situation was an academic and businesslike. The plates are creative and do not leave our stomachs heavy burdens after finishing them, although they weren't excessively affected by the Japanese food. If you take only a bottle of red wine of price range from 80 to 120, the estimated cost for two persons would be 350 to 400. read more

Le Restaraunt is perfect for fine dining in Paris. The setting is small, intimate, and very posh. The food is like artwork-- you can really tell that the chefs put effort into each plate and the details are simply magnificent. The service is also wonderful. Although the food isn't the best of the best in Paris, I would recommend this restaurant for the experience. read more

We had the most fabulous lunch at Le Restaurant last week.... honestly, I am still dreaming about it! The service was absolutely impeccable -- the only other times I have had service that attentive and wonderful were the few 3-star Michelin restaurants I have been to. Honestly-- they were perfect! At one point I spilled my raspberry drink, and they brought an entire new table over for us (kind of embarrassing, but SO nice of them). Every course was better than the last, and I mean that sincerely. We had some sort of foie gras starter, and then I had a chicken/zucchini entree (SO melt-in-your-mouth delicious), and my husband had a fish dish that blew my mind. It was served over potatoes with some sort of foam all around it. It was one of the best fish dishes we've ever had! Dessert was a cherry / dark chocolate dessert with little meringue chips (among other things) that we are still dreaming about. The cheese course was also delicious as well. I will tell everyone I know to go to Le Restaurant when in Paris. Time to give them another Michelin star (or two!) read more
