This 4 course dinner experience brought back fond memories from distant days of visiting the south of France. It was a full house on a Friday. We set reservations a week in advance and got seated right away. I started with a Kronenbourg 1664, a pale European lager, while mapping out the game plan. For the starting course, I ordered escargot in a ceramic dish. This also was a delicious garlicy sauce for the bread. Before the entree was a house salad with a balsamic vinaigrette. For the entree, I went with Breast of Duck in Green Peppercorn Sauce. This brought back the best of memories. I also tried a little of the calf liver with caramelized onions. The entree included sides of mashed potatoes, creamed spinach and a carrot soufflé. The final course was a crème brûlée and coffee. I had to take the dessert home for later but so good and satisfying. Lovely experience with a party of 4. This is a great spot for special occasions. read more

Food - 3 stars Service - 3 and 1/2 stars Ambiance - 4 stars I had the duck in peppercorn sauce. The duck was tasty. On the plate were also pureed carrots, which had no flavor at all, and decent mashed potatoes and spinach. My starter was a carrot-ginger soup, which also had almost no flavor. If this were a fast food restaurant, I'd be raving about this meal, but it isn't. When you give yourself a French name and set out tablecloths, the chef needs to do better. The wait staff tried hard, and our waiter was charming and cheerful, but they (both waiters and a busboy) were almost overwhelmed by the size of our party (19 at two adjacent tables). That is a challenge but, if you're not up to it, don't accept the reservation. The decor is great. It's a beautiful setting, and it's not too noisy. The downside is that they are cramming tables into every square inch of floor space. It was hard to back out of my seat without colliding with diners at the next table. And it was hard for a handicapped person to squeeze between the tables to get to the restrooms in the back. Last, the air conditioning appeared to be off, with the result that the dining room was somewhat too warm. I was desperately looking for the dessert of my childhood - the floating island (that I used to call boules de neige or bird's milk). I was lucky enough to find it here, on Yelp, with a big picture and a name next to it: Le Rivage. I stopped by on my way home just to make sure they have what I was looking for and check if I needed to preorder it. From the outside, by daytime the place is uninviting. I got in and... a much different story. It is decorated quite old style classy. It was somehow pcked and the clientele was nicely dressed. I was on my work clothes so I decided not to sit in. The front guy confirmed for me that they have the Floating Island every day and Apparently people come to dine there only for that. On an instant I made the decision to come back the next day with my family. Next day, Saturday night, around 8pm we got there. Nice clean table, super friendly and pleasant staff - at some point one of them had a little artistic moment singing from Edith Piaf with some clients. My daughter irdered a salad: small cut, just as we like it which to me shows they care, not made in a rush. My wife got the salmon - very juicy and tasty. I got the lamb shank, which was atypically large, but with a sauce that was to die for!!! Sorry, but no picture of it, since I could not stop from eating it. And finally, the moment of gastronomic climax i was waiting for: l'ile Flotante, the Floating Island was put in front of me. The aspect is a little fancier than what my grandmother was creating for me, but that was 40 years ago... Now, who watched the Ratatouille movie will understand: I was transported back in time to my childhood. The food of the angels. After my first bite I have ordered the second portio . No joke! And I was almost ready to order the third one, but my blood sugar monitor gave me some signals. Don't get me wrong: this dessert is not super sugary. We haven't been to a French restaurant in a while. Went to dinner with neighbors and I suggested French. We had been here years ago. Since we live in West Delray and Le Rivage is in east Boca in a small strip center off of Federal highway. Charming small restaurant with 2 dining rooms. They have a complete dinner for $45 which includes choice of appetizer, house salad, entrée, dessert, and coffee or tea, great value. I started with one of my favorites, Escargot in Ceramic Dish and my wife ordered the Lobster Bisque, both very good followed by a nice house salad with a Balsamic vinaigrette dressing. For mains, I opted for one of my all-time favorites, Frog Legs Persillade, not often seen, superb. My wife chose the Bronzini Butterfly Basquaise Sauce, also very good. Both were accompanied by creamed spinach, mashed potatoes, and a carrot soufflé. All great. For dessert, I opted for another of my favorites, Crème Brûlée , very good. My tried the Chocolate Délice with vanilla ice cream , Warm chocolate cake, with vanilla bean ice cream. Also very good. Comes with Coffee or Tea. No longer a bargain. The full dinner menu is now $45. Also the menu never changes except perhaps for the soup d' jour. It is getting boring. Last night for the first time I was disappointed with my entree. There was something "off" with the sauteed liver. I do not know how to explain it but my wife's version is superior. We have been patrons of La Rivage for over 20 years. We have also introduced La Rivage to family and friends. It has always been a culinary favorite of ours for a variety of reasons; food, service, charm and ambience. On the 16th of this month, this was not the case. It appeared as though the entire staff was disorganized. The wait staff did not have an adequate command of the english language. The time between courses was interminable. Once the main courses were brought to the table, it was apparent that two of the three meals were below acceptable. Certainly not what we have come to expect from La Rivage. We had a reservation at 7 and finally got seated around 710. At 720 we still didn't have water so we left. They did t even notice we left.

We had an amazing dinner here with our daughter, her partner and our 101 year old friend. Everything from the minute we walked in the door to the minute we left was so wonderful! The staff knows our 101-year-old friend and we're so sweet to her as well as to us. They were attentive, friendly, and professional. You can tell they love the restaurant and act like it's their own. Our food was outstanding and we actually can't wait to go back! Our friend had the frog legs and absolutely love them. My daughter had the crabcakes and said they had hardly any filling. I loved the French onion soup and I also had the shrimp. And my husband had the Barada and our other friend had some fish. We chose the crème brûlée for dessert and it did not disappoint! When you walk into Le Rivage you are immediately hit with the ambience you would find in a retirement home. It is just an out dating feeling you would see in 90's fine dinning, tacky. First impression was that there wasn't much care into the atmosphere they were creating. Immediately upon arrival I was told I should try to eat somewhere else because the wait times were over 30 minutes, I said that was fine and would wait. 10 minutes later someone came to tell me they had a table because a reservation did not show up. I thanked them and they ignored me and did not make eye contact. I would later find out this person was the owner. The food like the ambience tasted like it had come from a retirement home or hospital. It was flavorless and basic french cuisine. Absolutely nothing creative or curated about the menu. I found it strange that no one spoke french or could pronounce the dishes they were serving but didn't think much of it. We ordered a number of dishes. We ordered the jumbo crab cake which came out cold, half frozen, and soggy. It was inedible. Even the foie gras was subpar. The cheese plate came out with stale and hardened cheeses. Then our main courses came out. First raw YES RAW lamb. Absolutely atrocious for the price. The beef tenderloin was bland and flavorless as well. I could go on but there is no point in detailing it all. Everything was not worth the price point or any price point. Borderline charging people to get food poisoning as later I would spend all night with stomach cramps and worse. After everything was said and done, our meal cost us over $250 with a tip. I asked to speak to the manager which the server politely said was the owner and that she would see us right away. I could see the server red in the face with nervousness walk up to her, she reacted with laughter and then proceed to berate the employee where me and several tables could hear. She refused to come talk with us. I paid our tab and tipped the server $50 and told her she was worth so much more than a place like this. As I approached the host stand to leave I could hear the owner cussing in another language. Worst experience I have ever had going out to dinner. We dined at this restaurant on 6/1/24 even after reading several reviews of the change of quality and service. UNFORTUNATELY, the reviews are real and the quality, service and experience have declined dramatically. We have gone here for special occasions and NOW will find another go to French Restaurant to enjoy as this one is off our list for good. The waited did not know the soup of the day, the service was grindingly slow, the food quality substandard and the servers were even mentioning that they are unhappy and regulars are leaving for good. We had a 6pm reservation for 8 in this quiet little restaurant in a non-descript strip mall. Arriving on time, we were seated right away and met the lovely Marielle. They do not serve cocktails, only wine and beer, but there is a good selection of wine from which to choose. Seated by the wall of wine, as the wait staff came to select bottles of wine, it didn't seem very organized, but they found what they needed. We ordered two bottles of Cabernet and that was enough for us for the meal. We each chose a dish from the $37 entrees that included appetizers, slaps, dinner and dessert/coffee. Hubby enjoyed the escargot and I chose the soup d'jour (mushroom) which was very flavorful. The Caesar salad was fantastic - not overdressed and a good amount of cheese. Hubby ordered the duck with cherry sauce - largest portion of duck I've seen - it was cooked perfectly, and the sauce was the perfect complement, not sweet. My salmon was savory, moist and delicious. The meal was well-paced, we were not rushed, water and wine glasses were filled regularly, and it was so nice that plates were not cleared until all of us were done with that course. So often dishes are cleared as each person finishes, and that experience makes me feel like I have to hurry through a course. Portions sizes were generous but not overwhelming, leaving us full but just enough room for dessert. I chose the warm apple tart, which was light, fresh and topped with vanilla ice cream. Hubby got a peach Melba - which we never see on a dessert menu - and he loved it! Fantastic meal, Marielle was sweet & efficient, lovely environment. This place was just ok, atmosphere not so great. Very dated decor & food was OK. The location is in a not so good strip mall. Salads were nothing special, I had the beef Bourguignon. We have been dining at this restaurant on special occasions for years. The food is always delicious and so is the service. Easter Sunday 2023 we were six for dinner and had a round table in the main dining room near the window. This worked out extremely well. For this year's Easter Sunday Dinner we were 7 and I requested this table again and was assured to be seated at that table. I called the restaurant a total of 3 times! to make sure we would get that table and all was well with our reservation. Each time I was assured I would be accommodated. When we arrived this Easter Sunday somebody else was sitting at that table and we were seated in a very unattractive side room facing a curtain away from anybody on. We all were very upset. This used to be our family's special place for celebrations. I have another review out there raving about Le Rivage. Unfortunately, it is no longer delicious; I'd say average or below. All 4 of us were seriously underwhelmed with our dishes: two chewy and flavorless steak au poivre, one lumpy shrimp scampi, and a bland duck breast in peppercorn sauce. As for the service, it was polite and attentive to all our needs but we had to wait more than an hour for our food to be served. All in all, we spent 2:15 hrs waiting for average food. Sadly, we won't be back. A new chef who can run a tasty and efficient kitchen is badly needed. read more

Usually don't go out to eat this day due to poor service--boy should have followed instincts. Hadn't been to restaurant in 2 yrs. Actually, I should have checked reviews as I hadn't realized Chef Paul had retired and restaurant under new management/new chef. New owners expanded into adjoining space; kitchen space remained the same--simply can't handle this. Arrived on time for 5:30pm reservations. Restaurant didn't contact another reservation website to let them know we showed up (I contacted them separately to be sure we rec'd credit). Not just affected us, but everyone in restaurant had the same experience. Ordered a Kir-- flute glass only 1/2 filled for $10. Ordered wine to be served w/main meal. Asked various waiters when appetizer arrived and during the course of the meal for the wine -- never showed up. Asked for at least bread--waited 1/2 hr; couple next to us waited almost 2 hrs. for their appetizer (on my insistence, they too rec'd bread when I asked for the umpteenth time for ours). Appetizers showed up 1 hr later. I had just about finished mine when appetizer was whisked away as my main meal arrived. Hubby's main meal showed up 45 min. later. Desserts at almost 8:00; we left at 8:30pm. Just horrendous service; staff totally overwhelmed -- no idea how to serve. Kitchen couldn't keep up. Patrons were "joking" among each other what a terrible experience. Food was ok (portions of my meal were hot-lukewarm) but just an AWFUL experience. And don't tell me "it's a a busy night." The set menu (3 course complete dinner) used to be $35; now $55 -- several choices have an additional supplement. Oh, did I mention that with the 2 Kirs, meal cost $176 which included the gratuity (I did NOT leave my usual 20%+ gratuity!). We will NEVER go back. read more

We have been going to this restaurant for over 10 years Ambiance has been upgraded, Raphael our server always excellent service, NOW down to the food, having the same thing to eat always, my wife and I enjoy Liver and Onions (our go to restaurant ) not served or prepared at other restaurants, This was the Worst meal we ever had there, ordered cooked medium and came out over cooked burnt, sent it back to the Chef, again very sorry we will make a new dish, again over cooked well done and impossible to eat, showed to waiter to return to Chef. Now the killer, NO Apology and Not removed from the Bill, This restaurant is under NEW OWNER and has increased seating into additional space, but the Care and Pride from the Chef/Owner is now Missing. The Pre Fix 3 course meal is excellent many choices of appetizers main course and desserts This last time I went today for my birthday had first course liver pate Served with tiny pickles and onion jam and there fresh baked bread Main course I had Dover soul (up charge on pre fix ) but was absolutely perfect moist delicious the best I ever had. Desert course I had a creme brûlée . I have had the duck the rack of lamb here and all were great. They had Beef Bourguignon Special tonight but I had really set my mind in fish . The French onion soup was watery, the lobster bisque good but cold and the salad dressing way too strong. The wait service was awful. It took forever to get served or even to get water glasses refilled. One couple sent back their salmon & it was taken off the bill. The others at the table were also very pleased with their choices. The wine list is replete with good wines at reasonable prices. I only wish I had found this place years ago. We always enjoyed eating at Le Rivage, however, the business was recently sold and the new ownership is a failure. We arrived ar 6:20pm were first couples to arrive. Ordered bottle of wine and one guest had escargot. Then after waiting more than 2 hours we respectfully requested the check and paid left the restaurant. In total 23 guests were in the restaurant and the kitchen could service the guests within a reasonable period of time. We sure wish the original owner was back ! For anyone who has never been to this restaurant and are considering trying it for the first time I would contemplate going to another more established, better managed restaurant. Le Rivage raised their entree prices and half the entrees on the menu have a surcharge included should you want to order that item. The service is very poor. We waited two and a half hours for our meal. We had a 7:00pm dinner reservation and we left the restaurant at 10:30pm. The restaurant was understaffed as far as table wait staff and one waitress was taking care of multiple tables on one side of the restaurant. The manager of the restaurant apparently does not think that she needs to be present and supervise especially during a busy evening like a Saturday night. We were told that the manager was absent from the restaurant last evening and was also not at the restaurant Saturday evening, April 20th. A good restaurant manager is on the scene all the time. There are many good restaurants in the South Florida area to dine at to not have to wait so long for ones food to be delivered to the table. The meal overall does not substantiate the new pricing increase. read more

Grew up in Boca. Moved back four years ago. Found out that, unfortunately, the days of La Vieille Maison are long-gone. So, have tried all of what's left in French here. Come to find out, the food here is in the same spirit, which was always French-informed. In fact, the food is excellent. Plan on eating here regularly. Tasted the onion soup and it was yummy. My husband had frogs legs and he said they were absolutely some of the best he has ever had. The service was friendly and our waitress Paulette was a doll!
